I think the most remarkable part about this game series is how literally every weapon has something special going for it that makes it worth using, I am a great sword main, but know how to use every weapon and regularly switch whenever I feel like changing the flow of a hunt, and I think it’s just fantastic to know that you can essentially play the game however you prefer, because at the end of the day the best weapon is the one you feel more confident with
100% with you, I've been a greatsword main since Gen 1. However I regularly play the other weapons. Sometimes only to remind myself why the Greatsword is the best sword 😂.
I feel this, not really a veteran, only played world and rise but after I got 600 hunts on Greatsword I realized other weapons are fun, but they will never be as good as Greatsword
yes, i can use half the weapons on intermediate level but the only weapon i can hunt under 5 minutes is the Greatsword only, so it's cool to see other people shine with the weapon they feel confident with.
Great video! I liked all the pros and cons you gave, good weapon overview for newcomers and those who never tried the sns, i think I’ll pick it up more often now!
I was planning on getting back into playing MHW and was going to go the same IG build that I used to do, but now I will give sword and shield a try. Thanks and cheers!
Try it lol, it's lethal on its own and great at supporting in teams. KO monsters like a baller or hold em down with mounting. Anything goes for this weapon
I started the journey of MHW with lance. (I'm completely new to the franchise, albeit I've tried Freedom Unite back in PSP). After 1000 hours spent in the game, everything comes in a full circle; my favorites are SnS and the Bow. 1). SnS is the Pinnacle of melee weapon; its everything the video has explained. It can stun like hammer, its fast like dual blades, it can jumps and easy mount like an IG, has i-frame like a Long Sword and top it of with slinger burst; equip it with thorn/bomb pod you can disrupt enemy pattern. The downsides are the reach and designs (Charge Blade has a real proper SWORD AND SHIELD weapon designs, instead of a plate and toothpick). 2) Bows are relaxing compared to other weapons (this includes ranged options). Perfect numbers of coating selection and simple gameplay. Everything will becomes more relaxed if you have the survivability options of stamina and evasion gems. this is subjective of course. Because in the end, every weapon is awesome and depends on the peculiarities of the users.
yeah the sns is awesome. iirc it used to be this weapon that was known for being a beginner weapon that people only played because many MH games start you on it but as some people come to realize now this weapon is actually very deep and deals very good damage
Unfortunately you had to use lance as your example for a less mobile weapon, when the reality is the exact opposite, but other than that nitpick, you brought up some good points
i started a new playthrough to learn the greatsword. i just dropped and finished farming velkana and now have a crit draw frostcraft build. i feel obscenely mobile compared to my usual dual blades build (and charged shell gunlance)
Honestly, that thing plays very differently to other weapons I've played. Using the guard plus triangle you can reposition while blocking plus the charge is nice as well. It can be mobile, but for a dude whose muscle memory defaults to dodging to the side, it can be pretty detrimental.
Tbh, zencieh had the best advice for this. If Guard slash is something one often does by accident, the best way is to guard first, input the opposite direction and then the special attack button. Sadly my fingers aren't very dexterous so sometimes I accidentally do the attack first before the direction, hence the accidental guard slashes lol
the claw uppercut is broken on safi'jiiva it can tenderize two parts at once. the claw uppercut also has hyper armor it can also slinger burst into perfect rush
Every time I do a guard slash instead of a block backhop i feel obligated to abandon the quest immediately. Too ashamed to look the monster in the eyes
Started and played through base World with Charge blade but dropped that in Iceborne and switched to SnS. Even in Rise/Sunbreak. Simple to build and good damage. The truly jack of all trade master on none.
i adore SnS to no end as well... i was never into the weapon much in World, but Iceborne was a big gamechanger for me to even get into the weapon. after that, i used it lots as well throughout my journey of both Rise and Sunbreak it's such a fun weapon to use, i can't get enough of all the backhop combos and dmg output i get out of doing so
SnS in world is really an amazing weapon even dps wise... was doing a new playtrough with only sns in world/iceborn and im out here getting into high rank first expedition hunting the pukei the diablos and i think the third one is a barroth or rathian all hunted in 15min with low rank gear and weapon i was kinda shocked myself i usually only play CB but god damn was i amazed lmao
love weapons that are easy to get into but still have a massive ceiling in terms of efficiency , its a shame sns boils down to how much truestrike you can spam out tho , even if it takes a lot of skill and knowledge to pull off , also nice music selection
Not to say anything bad but. I would like to use it, but Perfect Rush spam is sadly the only way to play with it optimally. You lose so much damage by not using it that it just feels strange.
0:22 not particularly true as SnS historically has always been a decent if not strong weapon at all levels of play and even see's good speedrun times from the japanese speedrunning community in the classic titles
Even from the first one? Frankly my opinion of the weapon stems from how I kinda started the game from the first one, sadly back then my dad decided i should just get a computer instead of a console after ps2. Didn't know how to read jp too back then, so mh1 and world was the only experience i had with the franchise.
ok as an sns main i can confirm guard slash is HORRIBLE in world like just straight useless tho if ur misclicking guard slash when ur intent is to backstep thats mostly the player's fault lol
Yeah... let's just say that the games i usually play don't really need multiple button inputs. Mount and blade, chiv 2, exanima, all of these have elements in their combat system that is common between them. Monster hunter, is a whole different thing.

SnS main here. Great video. The SnS really does it all.
Jocat would be proud.

Play world again, I came back and am having a blast, so many sos quests and people playing!

I think SnS is definitely the next weapon I want to learn in more detail, it looks so satisfying to get good with.
yeah the sns is awesome. iirc it used to be this weapon that was known for being a beginner weapon that people only played because many MH games start you on it but as some people come to realize now this weapon is actually very deep and deals very good damage
nice video 😁not many know how strong SnS really. hope with the new players coming to world see your video and give it a try
Thank you, your skill with the sns using keyboard and mouse is a thing to behold!
Unfortunately you had to use lance as your example for a less mobile weapon, when the reality is the exact opposite, but other than that nitpick, you brought up some good points

You can use you're slinger as a shotgun (R3 with weapon drawn) and go straight in to perfect rush combo. 20 stones means 20 PR combo's.
way too hard for me to pull off clicking that stick then pulling it back in time.
It's really nice if the pods can flinch the beast as well, and you know where the beast will flinch. Legit free damage lol
Perfectly emulating the Gladiator Fantasy 🗡️ 🛡️ 💪
Yep, sadly I haven't gotten a good armor set that can make me look like a cool gladiator
Just draw into guard if you want to do a quick on demand back hop. Or just tap guard if your already unsheathed.

When I want to take a hunt seriously, I bring the Sns.

I love that we are still getting MHW content in 2024. And what a good video.
ps LOVE that you point out its flaws. Perfect

Sns is amazing I like the stun and the knockback 😊 and it's light 😊

I use a Max Ironwall charm with my Sword and Shield. Guard Up gem, as well. Can’t kill me.
Tried it many times , but it was too hard for me, i keep returning to the CB, SA or LS
Just gotta master backhopping without accidentally doing a guard slash. The rest will come naturally, I'm certain
