Best line of a song (and they’ve lived up to it)- we’ll never stop we’ll never quit cuz we’re Metallica!
I was a junior in high school when this came out in 83. We were used to the hard rock/metal of the 70s and early 80s, and when we first heard this our minds were blown. We had never heard anything so fast and heavy before.
So true. 1983 In high school my friends and I did this song for a lip sync show and nobody knew what the hell hit them.
Played this for friends in '83 and everyone was blown away, even the older hard rock fans, said it was fast for the sake of it but still damn good, they heard and understood this was a new hard rock movement
I was in 6th grade junior high in 84. A year behind you but thats exactly what i thought. I grew up on my dads country music and my moms 60s music. I LOVED THIS. BUT...the first metal son i heard was from Accept in 1982 called Fast as a Shark.
We'll never stop - We'll never quit - cuz We're METALLICA !!!!
The dude crowd surfing in a wheelchair was at the big four show in NYC at yankee stadium. I was there.
Holy shiet yea old school 🔥🔥🤘🤘
This was the time when the speed metal sound and style was blowing out everywhere and way before metallica changed their style drastically in the 90s
Albumn title was going to be: Metal Up Your Ass but they were forced to change it
Check Out Dyer's Eve by Metallica
That album is definitely their thrashiest . For one it was the first album they released so they was young , hungry and ready to show world what they could do ! its crazy it took them 3 more albums to make their first video !
This is one of those songs that gets played right near the end of a Metallica show. Especially back in the day. Definitely one of my top 10 fave Metallica songs.
Probably my favorite from Kill Em All and Kurt Cobain's as well from what I hear. I've heard a couple stories of Kurt front row at a show screaming for this one. And yeah this is about the fans and could be extrapolated to the subgenre.
Also gotta get to Orion, Wherever I May Roam, and No Leaf Clover
This is the song that really got me into Metallica as a teen. I'd heard One, Master Of Puppets, Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, and a few of their other big ones, but this sold me. I immediately tried to learn it on my Squier Bullet Strat. Those downpicks are ferocious.
This song is from before James introduced "yeah" and had singing lessons. He didn't start that until yrs later.
When you listen to this straight after Anaestesia on the album it's such a contrast - make this song seem harder - but that's Metallica, the contrast between fast and heavy and light and melodic which makes the entire experience - then couple that with every song essentiallly having a crescendo
Yeah definitely even if its off camera Listen to Anesthesia(pulling teeth) because its both an amazing look at Cliff And leads right into Whiplash
Saw Iron Maiden in 2008, the next morning woke up with whiplash. Guess my body was telling me it wasn’t 1984 anymore…😂
Motorhead Does a great cover of Whiplash!
Yup, this and Metal Militia are especially crushing. This album changed everything..not just here in the Bay Area, but everywhere. Have you guys watched Murder in the Front Row yet?….DO IT!!
Thank you guys for the react but you missed out. I had asked for Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) and Whiplash. Anesthesia runs into Whiplash on the album and the 2 songs combined run roughly 8-9 minutes. But what you missed was Cliff Burton's bass solo which is phenomenal
Need to listen to the live Anesthesia though
Definitely missed out
@@pc574 The live version with Mustaine on guitar is awesome as Cliff kills it as always. Watching him Thrash the bass is badass.
@@srt8rocketship241idk if I have seen that. The is a live on UA-cam but I was paying attention to Cliff
@@pc574 Yes , just punch iMetallica Whiplash live with Dave Mustaine on guitar. They do Anesthesia/Pulling Teeth right into Whiplash.
This song was originally written when Dave Mustaine was still in Metallica and on the Metallica home video Ciff Em All they play this song live with Dave on guitar. Half of the songs on the album Kill Em all which this song is from were co written with Dave Mustaine
Anyone ever get whiplash from a show? Yup! Yoshiki from X-Japan had to have surgery to get his nerves back in order...and he's the Drummer of the band!
A band you might want to get into as well. Kurenai is a good start.
I found this album a few weeks after it came out in the Summer of 83 at a place in Houston called Texas Tapes and Records (trivia - that store is in the cover art of Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time album. It was an unbelievable store - especially if you were a metal head). Anyway, I had never heard of Metallica, but the album was like nothing I had heard to that point, and I loved it (my parents didn't care for it that much because at home I played it LOUD). When my junior year of high school started, I bought the cassette version and took it to school along with my Sony Walkman. Nobody else had heard of Metallica yet, so I kept giving the headphones to each of the other metal heads I knew and clicking "play." Blew their minds. By the end of the semester, you could hear Kill 'Em All playing all the time out of car stereos in the school parking lot, at the local hangouts, at the beach. It was kinda fun being there when this band was first being discovered by a lot of young heavy metal fans.
That's how we did it back then...pre internet, it was all word of mouth, tape trading, fanzines, penpals....
@@bayareathrasher666 I miss it. There was something about browsing through bin after bin of albums looking for something cool that you hadn't heard before. It's just not the same browsing online - at least to an old guy like me.
@@VogonPoet67 Absolutely! $40 and and afternoon to kill, you came home with treasures! Growing up in the Easy Bay we were lucky to have The Record Vault (S.F, Ca.) and The Record Exchange (Walnut Creek, Ca.) They were our Mecca.
You ever get to see Metallica play live early on when they were in the San Francisco area, before they hit it big?
@@VogonPoet67 Yes. my first Metallica show was at The Berkeley Keystone, Berkeley, Ca. Nov. 1983, I was 14, now I'm 53. I know a lot of the people in the scene out here. Exodus, Machinehead, Forbidden...etc. still the epicenter
Metallica forever!! Been a fan since they were unknown/underground thrash metal up and comers. Then Master of Puppets hit and it was off to the races for them. I still go back and listen to the Kill, Ride and Master albums at least once a month. Whiplash is one of my favs.
This is the song played for me by friends at 15 when I asked what's thrash? In 1986, This is the opening song they played at the first show of their's I went to in 1987, in Oakland I think , I took my little brother to his first show in Concord in 1989 for his 13th birthday, saw them at Day On the Green in Oakland in 1991, my last show I ever went to in California before moving to Seattle the next month, it was our friends gift to my girlfriend and I for our 21rst birthdays and farewell party.
I was already a Slayer fan by 14, my dad was a guitar fan and I think he had a secret music crush on Kirk Hammett, he never once told me to turn them down or off 😁 Even for my crazy life, I was spoiled to grow up in the Bay Area in the 70's through the early 90's
I got lucky my friend wanted to check out the grunge scene in W.S, 85 to 95 was the most fun 10 years I had as a young adult 🥰😎💜👑🦄😁
"We'll never stop we'll never quit cuz we're Metallica", is a nice sentiment in 1983, in 2023 I think we have to give them credit that they have never stopped and never quit. 40 Years of Metallica
My Patreon request "The Long Lost" by the Swedish Progressive Blackened Thrash band Sarcator definitely has some Metallica influence. Their new album "Alkahest" has Metallica influence throughout the album, their first album "Sarcator" is nonstop ins*nity, just brutal and fast af.
Both albums are bangers from start to finish, if this sounds appealing to any of you guys, please give Sarcator a listen! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
Morning guys! Awesome choice! I love this song! So fast and heavy!(I remember in woodshop class in junior high making a wooden carving that looked like the "Metallica" on the cover. I was listening to this album too!) Lol. Good memories!❤️🤓🤘
I was in 9th grade when this album came out. I was already well on my way to a huge record... yes record, collection. I was buying 1-2 albums a week and practically lived at the record store. I bought this album having never heard Metallica music before, based solely on the album cover art, and hearing OF them. I'm a Bay Area kid. This album blew me away. Been a huge fan since and have seen them dozens of times since. Unfortunately I missed them touring for this album, but I made damn sure I caught them for their next tour for Ride The Lightning.
When you said he'd say "Yeah" I wanted to bet you, since I knew he wouldn't say it. That Yeah thing came along later. Now he can't stop...lol.
Y’all rock! Been subscribed for a while now. Cool brothers with awesome insight.
You can't go wrong with Metallica let's go!!!
After 2000 it's all wrong
@@robtintelnot9107 This man speaks only the truth. The brutal, honest truth.
@@robtintelnot9107 Nah, St.. Anger and the albums after it are good.

The blood on the album cover is actually in the shape of a shadow of a kid whispering to the murderer to be quiet as they creep up to the person and bludgeon them on the head with the hammer. Pretty fucking awesome. 😀😀 I mean insane.
Great video guys. This is quintessential Metallica right here. They were super raw and energetic throughout this whole album
Cliff Burton bass solo Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) live next !!!
CLIFF EM' ALL ! 🤘❤️🇨🇦
It's the album that changed everything. We're talking 1983. This is THE album.
The last show I went to in Atlanta in November of 21. Started with this
Pure joy, from an old fogey (68), who missed the thrash era!
Definitely one of Metallica's best cover songs. And, the photo meme that you referred to was a photo taken at the 2nd Big 4 show in the US, at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx. I was there in September 2011.🤘
I headbanged to this from the front row of the Monsters of Rock tour that featured Metallica with Jason on his first tour with them.
Everything thing from this album are pure bangers!!! Especially their cover of Am I Evil!! 🤘🤘
O yea, such an awesome song. How can you not feel good listening to this song
The show is through, the metal is gone, it’s time to hit the road
Another town, another gig, again we will explode
Hotel rooms and motorways, life out here is raw
We’ll never stop, we’ll never quit ‘cause we’re MetallicA
This whole album is Metallica gold. Four horseman is still one of my top 5 Metallica songs
Bro i love these metallica reactions from you guys!!
This had to have been the hardest song to ever exist back in 1983 lol! Kill Em All is one of my favorite albums to workout to. What a pioneering album!
Earlier Metallica slaps. Great reaction dudes. Keep them coming. Yeahhh
I looooove this song and this album!
Should have played Cliff Burton's bass solo anesthesia which the song right before Whiplash it goes right into it you should definitely do that one time
That is what I requested: Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)/Whiplash :((
"Metallica never upsets"
St. Anger: 'hold my beer'
It is supposed to represent a hammer and blood. Kill "Em All was not the orginal name for the album. It was supposed to be "Metal Up Your Ass," but being 1983, the Megaforce Records wouldn't allow it so "Kill 'Em All," was what they said the wanted to do to recording studios.
Some classic Metallica! Lars rightly gets a lot of hate but he killed it here. Hit The Lights next 🔥🔥
Ya hit the lights!!!
Rightly? Naw
This isn’t even one of his best songs
Like he said. Will never stop will never quit cause we're metallica
The first time I heard this song was in 1987. I was in grade 9. I learned a new word from this song: thrashing. Had no idea what it was. I thought it was "trash" but with intentional misspelling. Only later I learned its true meaning 😀
I’ve always loved this album, and would love to hear you guys reaction to “jump in the fire”
This is the first Metallica album and it was released in 1983. The original title for it was supposed to be "Metal Up Your Ass" but the record label thought it was too offensive and they had to change it. So, they put "Kill' Em All" in reference to the labels that told you what to do.
You liked this, so i sugest you to listen to the live version in San Diego. It is CRAZY fast.
Greetings from Chile- Southamerica , I am 51 years old, When I listened to Metallica's songs , first time, I was 14 years old, it was only by chance, I had a classmate who received a gift from a cousin of him and among those things there had this album. It was the beginning of our preferences about the heavy metal and thrash metal music. My apologies for my poor english language, keep it up!!!, Yeeeaaahh!! 🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎼🎵🎵🎶🎶
Great Reaction! In 2003 Metallica was honored on a show on MTV called Metallica Icon. Jim Breuer, the comedian, did some stand up and he does an impression of James where he does the YAAAA! like James does and after he was finished they went to the camera where Metallica was and James was like I don't sound like that and then did a YAAAA! and then said "I guess I do." You ought to check that show out, Korn did the song One and Limp Bizkit did a good job on Welcome Home (Sanatarium).
THIS SONG LIVE IS INSANE!!
Why…. BECAUSE ITS THRASHHHHH
🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
And notice how even in the very first 1983 thrash metal album Metallica even in their lyrics stated “your thrashing all around!!” Coining the phrase THRASH. Thrash had arrived…..
Metallica - Hit the Lights
Ya that should be next
Have you guys heard of the machine alien type guy, known as Buckethead!?
I only asked cuz i dont think uv covered him... he played on lead guitar for Guns n Roses (Playing Slash's lead parts stunningly), and the guy is literally a robot playing flawlessly!
Considered probably the best guitarist, and technically skilled, in the World.
Y'all need to react to "To live is to die"
Check Phantom Lord from the same album. Written by Dave Mustaine. He joined Metallica on stage in 2011 playing Phantom Lord and Jump In The Fire both written by him
Whiplash is easily in the top five Metallica songs......top three for myself. Smokey, you're absolutely correct, this song is the anthem. It pretty much spells out why they do what they do and why all of us could relate. Those early tours in the clubs and small venues were a lot of fun. Me and my friends were very fortunate to be part of it.
Should've done live version. Any with Jason innit is just pure gold.
That’s what I was about to say 😅 Jason was awesome! Great voice and a monster on stage
Love it when James yells "DICK RASH!" in the Seattle '88 live version during Kirks solo
Yes! Any song from that box set was AWESOME! Agree... Jason was just a monster on the stage.
Anything with Jason is good, but it's never better than anything with Cliff!!!
@@randywissler9923 TY, was about to Chime in on that one!
Ya'll need to react to the live version from '89.
I went to this show in 2018 with a friend...it was Testament, Behemoth, Anthrax, Lamb of God, and Slayer (playing order)...and during Anthrax's set...someone in a wheelchair was crowdsurfing. Never seen anything like that in my life. And I've been to like...easily, 100+ shows. Good times hahaha.
Gonna be honest, if it wasn't for reaction videos of people who aren't used to Metallica and other bands they never thought about before got me back into picking up the Bass Guitar again. thank you guys for reminding me of what it's like to rediscover my roots and why I love music so much
This is a good example of the punk/metal crossover that happened in the 80s. The main riff to this song is similar in feel and speed to British punk bands like Discharge, GBH and The Exploited.
This is by far the best nice weather, windows down, music blasting, behind the wheel driving song. Give it a try guys!!
A few years back at Rockfest here, folks took a dude in a wheelchair up and let him crowdsurf. Everyone was super careful with him and he had the time of his life surfing over 50-55k people.
Great cut...
Hey we gotta check out
Tran-Siberian Orchestra the lost Christmas Eve Album....
Christmas Jam, Christmas canon rock....
I would love for you to react to Shinedown great reaction guys
I went to a Guns and Roses show years ago, where I was in the general admission seating where they had me sign a waiver before the concert to protect the band.
I watched your reaction to Parabol/Parabola and loved your views on the song(s). I noticed you haven’t reacted to the music video yet. Please make a video on it, I think you guys will be blown away!
Metallica’s first album and it was a great one. Doesn’t get a lot of hype since most people didn’t jump on the Metallica bandwagon until the 90’s when they became more commercialized. “The Four Horsemen” and “No Remorse” are a couple of other bangers from that record.
" I bet you (points at camera) 5$ that he says 'yeah'! "
Dude, that's a hefty bill with 109k subs :D What, about... half a mill for fans of the channel ;)
Metallica never upsets. Except for St Anger but other than that the rest is bangin'. lol Great reaction guys!
I liked st anger
@@mattboselli1099 Cool i'm glad you liked it.
Bad omen -like a villain 💯🔥
That is jump in the pit and melt your face classic Metallica
"Kill 'Em All" refers to the record labels that all refused to put out their album with the cover that they WANTED.
Hola 👋 saludos desde chile 🇨🇱, 🤘🏼, metállica con mústaine y burton , ufff q locura hubiera sido
I was into iron maiden in the 80s then heard whiplash and that was it metallica have been one of my favourite bands since then
its a good time when ya'll are smiling ear to ear and the song is finished :)
Don’t know if y’all have done it yet but you should react to Anesthesia pulling teeth Cliff Burton bass solo it’s 🔥🔥🔥
This tune is an absolute icon. Thanks!
Thank god for designing our ears for stereo
This album has to be the most defining, for Trash as a genre. Glad you picked it up.
Yes! Classic! 🤘❤️
I got chronic neck pain and tinnitus- the price you pay for hundreds of metal shows …worth it, not suing anyone 😂

Well, that is $5,00 than, cause no "YEAH" in this one....;-) James started that with the "Black album" commin' out in '91. Not during the 80's. Yet another great reaction, thanx. Next time consider one of their live performances from Seatle '89 or Mexico City '93.
Great song , Hit the light and Atlas rise are 2 of my favorite!!!!
Metal Militia next! The shredding in it is insane
The band that broke me into metal, and one of my fav albums of all time
I may not be a part of your Patreon but do watch your reactions on UA-cam. Since you both are on a Metallica fix makes me wonder why you both have not reacted to the new single Metallica dropped?! The song is called Lux Aeterna off their new album released in April 2023. Check it out, guys!
Hell Yeah, the early days!
✋✋✋✋✋Me Smokey me, I saw Metallica in 93 and they OPENED with this. 5 notes in and my neck went *ping* before the drums even kicked in 🤣🤣🤣 Hurt like hell but I kept headbanging for the rest of the 2 hour set. Then I had to drive 50 miles home. Couldn't look up for a fortnight! TOOOTALY WORTH IT 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Another good one is Trapped Under Ice by Metallica. Same sort of frantic energy but it’s all about Dantes inferno. The scene where he sees everyone trapped up to their necks in ice
Please do Morbid Angel "Where The Slime Live" the live version from 6 years ago.
Total absolute thrash. One of my favs 🤘
