Laura Ashley, bedskirts, sofa skirting and pink and green…I had ‘em all! What a wonderful trip down memory lane. I can so (totally ❤) bring back a few pieces to accent my new home, as a nod to my teenage years. Thanks, Tara!
Wow thank you! I remember this... not sure how I feel about it ! I wasn't aware of the history of the design. I was in love with the neon colors. I do remember my mother washing my Coca Cola shirt with my father's work clothes and ruined it... duh! I about lost my ***** ! The 80's synth music was a real trip!
Love me some eighties touches in interiors! Maybe it’s because of the nostalgia factor, or it might just be because there were some stunning elements of eighties design! Whatever it may be, thank you for not dissing the decade and its style, as is de rigeur among some “sophisticated” interior design content creators. Imo the eighties was the last decade to be overflowing with originality and creativity in design. Oh, and who could claim Patrick Nagel’s stylish ladies or Hiroshi Nagai’s idealised summers aren’t breathtaking?
Thank you for this! I agree. There is great inspiration to be found in this era. I enjoy how the 80’s aesthetic is being reinterpreted in really cool ways 😊
Oh yes, Laura Ashley! That tropical print you showed I really liked. Didn’t have it though. Oh yes I remember terrible wallpaper borders with cows I think … Condos built in the ‘80s seem to be pretty good for space though. The Pac-Man shower you showed was hilarious.
Oh gosh the wallpaper borders!!! I saw another designer post about them coming back… not sure I’m ready for that. Lol. Thanks so much for always commenting. I really appreciate it 😊
The 1980's will forever be the purple decade for me. I hated purple then (love it now) and it was absolutely everywhere. And who could forget the brink phone?
Sorry, Tara, the only thing I'm keeping from the 80s is the music 😎 Okay, and maybe young Mickey Roarke. I actually remember being impressed by his character's apartment in 9 1/2 Weeks. Thinking back, it was the opposite of most of the design styles I saw around me at the time. It was clean, cold, monochromatic, and minimalist, at a time when I was drowning in Laura Ashley, and it really stuck with me. I have very little nostalgia for that decade's aesthetics. The clothes were very unflattering on me, my hair was too straight (my hairdresser trauma from back then was so severe I've actually never gotten a professional haircut since), I was too pale to look good in neon, and I never liked frills or floral prints. By the end of the decade, I'd already transitioned to vintage clothing and dying my hair black, so I guess that says something about how I felt about it... Nowadays, if I want bold colors inspo, I'd rather take it from Bauhaus than Post Modernism. It's more coherent as a style, and, to me, more aesthetically pleasing. Great video as always. I particularly enjoy seeing your ideas for incorporating aspects of a style in a way that isn't overwhelming. It's a way of looking at things that I appreciate and find inspiring.
@@unfilthy Lol! That’s very fair. I know it’s a polarizing design style. While I can look at an interior from the modernist era and see myself living in it exactly as it is, it’s unlikely I would ever feel the same about a postmodern space. There are bits and pieces I like that I would be comfortable with in small doses or could get behind if re-invented in a more contemporary way. And I think that’s where we’re at for the most part with this 80’s trend. It’s not a literal copy of the aesthetic, it’s a new interpretation of it. And probably one that’s more palatable to those who don’t have memories of it from the first time around 😊
You're not keeping The Breakfast Club? Ferris Bueller's Day Off? Back to the future? The Goonies? Ghostbusters (OG)? Labyrinth? Footloose? The Princess Bride?
Okay let’s try this again! Sorry to be a day late with this one.
How does everyone feel about the 80’s trending again?
Nice raspberry sweater! Perfect for the theme!😊
Oh thanks! 😉😊
Really enjoyed it, thankyou! Loved the bits of music you added, nicely put together video :-)
Thank you so much! 😊

One of the things I really enjoyed about the 80’s was the reproduction Art Deco stuff. So glam.
@@bokettooo Agreed! 😊
5:37, the curve sofa that we're seeing back again.
@@bEverCurious Some of the curved sofas are pretty fantastic for sure 😊

@@bEverCurious There was so much purple! I wasn’t really a fan either. Unless it was Prince related 😊
