    For anybody wondering he gets on with it at about 4:41 Spoiler: would hardly call it a fatal flaw so much as a potential mishap that is very unlikely to happen to most people using wire clips..

    • @retardno002
      @retardno002 Місяць тому

      It's an issue with the Chapparal but no other Spydercos just because of how thin the scales are, they literally can't make the grooves any deeper but it's easy for most users to avoid this 'fatal flaw'. It won't happen with the P3LW that's for sure, so this is a clickbaity waste of time. Disliked and reported for the misleading title.

  • @prokskee
    @prokskee 3 роки тому +40

    This video should be called flaw with the chaparral,my para3 lw (rex45) has deeper grooves. I believe the reason for the shallow grooves on the chaparral are due to the scales being so thin you really can’t make them much deeper.

    • @covertprepper5957
      @covertprepper5957  3 роки тому +1

      Could be. I've handled a P3LW before and the grooves seemed about the same but I could be wrong. At this point I'm just not comfortable with anything that has that wire clip + FRN scales.

    I view your problem more as a rare occurrence rather than what is the norm and as such is hardly what I would consider a "FATAL" flaw. I have both knives and prefer the bugout for EDC anyways. Thanks for the video, looking forward the seeing more.

    • @covertprepper5957
      @covertprepper5957  3 роки тому +1

      Well the reason I called it a fatal flaw is that it really ruined the knife for me. The pocket clip won't stay in at all anymore even after a trip back to Spyderco. I don't prefer pocket carry with no clip so now it just sits in my drawer. But you're right, it's probably not a super common occurrence for most people.

    They don't locktite the wire clip fasteners from the factory. If the screws loosen then yeah will snag and bend the clip or damage the FRN. Solution is to locktite and make sure tight. I have been carrying a Para 3 LW and zero clip issues after . The knife has other issues like the blade being difficult to keep 100% centered and the action without play is not as drop shutty as regular P3.

  • @siredc4182
    @siredc4182 2 роки тому +11

    I honestly love my para3 lw. The wire clip has never caused issues for me. Kinda curious how you got something caught on it to damage it so badly? Seems more like a clumsy mistake on your part than a flaw with the knife

    Thin small washer larger than head of screw will hold it in place. You can even apply gorilla glue in the grooves before hand.

    Well articulated criticism.
    Have you thought of taking it to the forums?
    They have their own online forum and I believe I’ve seen others talk about similar issues. Doesn’t seem to be too common though.

    A similar thing happened with my pocketclip. It got snagged and got bent out of shape. So I took off the clip and now I just keep it loose in my pocket like a traditional.

  • @Orochi_001
    @Orochi_001 2 роки тому +3

    I’ve had zero issues now with the many wire clip Spydies I own. Maybe you’re extra rough on your clips, whatever that means? My knife doesn’t move laterally in my pocket, so there’s little to no lateral stress on the clip. I think the problem would have to be widespread - which it clearly isn’t - to be a fatal flaw. Good vid nonetheless!

  • @chrislowery1980
    @chrislowery1980 7 місяців тому

    I’ve heard Spydie warranty is a PITA. You spent the time to ship them your knife, you’d think the LEAST they would do is swap the 89 cent scale out!!

  • @NJames-dh6kz
    @NJames-dh6kz 3 роки тому +2

    I am surprised that Spyderco hasn't developed their own deep carry screw in pocket clip. The Lynch clips work great for the G10 scales, but having to spend the extra money is not ideal.

  • @Sherrodja
    @Sherrodja 3 роки тому +4

    Mehhh.... the wire clip is fine for the vast majority of people. Those working construction, heavy equipment, ect.. ect... might want a knife with a traditional clip but snagging a clip that hard can wreck any knife. Though rare I've seen knives that have had clip screws ripped from or broken off of G10 scales. If regularly snagging a clip is a problem then carrying a knife just dropped inside the pocket would be the way to go. Either that or a fixed blade in a kydex sheath. I'm curious though how was this knife snagged so hard?

    • @georgemorley1029
      @georgemorley1029 2 роки тому +2

      I think you’ve got it. It’s about what he did to his knife, not about the design of the knife itself.

    I have been carying a pocket knife for 60 years and I completed 21 years in the US military. I have never snagged a pocket clip. Because a pocket clip gets snagged is not a knife design flaw it is a operater design flaw.

  • @edsaban572
    @edsaban572 3 роки тому +1

    Thats your major flaw, the damn clip? Bugout has a flaw that i noticed with their axis lock. When you open the blade all the way and after it locks, sometimes and it doesn’t lock all the way properly where it feels like it has some play. If you push the unlock slider all the way up, then it tightens up where the play disappears.

  • @AMM0394
    @AMM0394 2 роки тому

    My manix 2 lw doesn’t have this issue the grooves are deeper. I have had the single screw loosen to where the clip had play but I just tighten it back. This clip in particular never gets caught on things, rather it just slides off of things I’ve noticed. Great clip for me, the wire clip is actually my favorite style clip. my Milwaukee box knife has the same style clip, Love it on there too

    Have a Para 3 lightweight - carried it everyday at work , until I noticed the clip had bent and wasn't as tight in my pocket . Ordered a clip from Lynch Northwest - hopefully that will work ......

    I think the expectations are misguided, its plastic lightweight scales. When buying a "lightweight" knife, you will lose some build strength, should be expected. If a lightweight knife was just as strong as its normal big brother, I would venture to bet sales would suffer, something has to give. Put out an ad for want to buy, you will probably find new scales someone replaced.

    • @covertprepper5957
      @covertprepper5957  3 роки тому

      No, there are plenty of knives with plastic scales that don’t have this issue. It’s specifically the combination of FRN scales with the wire pocket clip that doesn’t work.
