I was lucky enough to meet this young man on a trip I made to the Spyderco factory on a motorcycle journey from Louisiana. He took time out from his busy day to come visit. He’ a knife nut like most of us Spyderholics and was a very nice man and very friendly. He knows his knives. It made me an even bigger Spyderholic after his visit and the limited tour the CFO gave me. Excellent company and great employees. Most important they make the best folders and use supersteels and have extremely sharp factory edges. Great job Spyderco!!!!!

Eric thanks for taking the time to do this video. For common EDC users your explanation on construction and design decisions is "eye opening", it shows the value that goes into your products. I live on a budget like many, and given the amount of less expensive options in the pocket knife market today I'm currently not a Spyderco carrier. However after watching this clip I'll very much consider Spyderco products in my next purchase.

Hearing Eric Glesser talk specifics about the design and execution of a Spyderco knife led almost directly to me getting a PM2. It comes through very clearly he has a personal investment in making a product that continues to earn Spyderco's reputation. They make a product their customers love.
I went from distantly observing the Spyderco hype to researching it, eventually going to handle one at my local surplus store, and now proudly owning one.
Another customer who loves the product has boarded the Hype Train. My Paramilitary 2 certainly lives up to it.

I am very impressed with the spyderco para3 lightweight. Amazing action for the price. I have the PM2 and this knife snaps open with the same smooth action. Even though I have a big hand, this knife fits nicely in the palm. Very sharp out of the box. This video is a great presentation of the ins and outs of this knife. Great engineering to get a knife to perform like this!
Congrats to Spyderco for a fantastic job!

I really appreciate Eric taking the time to walk through the disassembly process. I would LOVE to see Spyderco offer after market scales for their knives, especially the FRN and G10 scales in a variety of toned down and brighter colors. I respectfully believe they’re missing a significant business opportunity in that department.

  • @jolness1

I'm of the school of thought that a simple design done well is one of the best ways to construct a knife. I like that you guys are open to disassembly now. To me it seems like those who would take their knife apart will do it whether it voids the warranty or not because they are confident they can put it back together in a way that no one will notice. Those who aren't comfortable taking apart their knife won't care if it doesn't bother their warranty because they're not comfortable with the idea of pulling apart their precious tool.
I would love to see Spyderco include a schematic like Chris Reeve does. It's a nice touch and can be a little more useful when you are uncertain in the middle of disassembly over a video.
I've got my first Spyderco on the way. Para3 lw in 20cv. Looking for a new commonly available production knife company to recommend to my friends who don't want to spend $500 on a knife. That's been Benchmade due to their warranty for so long but seems like things are not going well there.

I have both Para 3 models and I dare say I prefer the lightweight which I wasn’t expecting. For a FRN handle it feels pretty solid and it’s super pocketable. Easy to forget it’s there until you need to open a package or cut the straps on a pallet. Great tool and I love having it with me.

To this date, my PM2 still remains one of my favorite knives to grab and use when I need to cut open a box or packaging. I have exacto knives, SAKs, and all types of sharp stuff, but the PM2 just feels right. I have no doubt the Para 3 will be just as good.

  • @michiganedge4770
    @michiganedge4770 5 років тому

Just finally broke down and got a para 3 blacked out g10 version. A lot of people cry and complain about the lanyard tube and the pocket clip not being deep carry. I absolutely love everything about the knife. I hate deep carry lol. But it truly is a pocket gem. Great job designing a smaller knife. I am a big guy and I own a para 2 also but I prefer the para 3. It just melts in my hand. It’s hard to beat the Manix and para line up for good user knives. I love my Manix lightweight. It amazes me how you guys make a knife so light and strong. My lightweight Manix has been my edc for a few years and it is still rock solid. I will definitely have to pick up a lightweight para 3 in the future. Thanks for the video and quality products!

Fan of Spyderco here. I own a PM-2 with Blurple G-10 scales (love it), a Chaparrel Lightweight (love it), and recently wanted to add the Para 3 Lightweight. I originally wanted the SPY27 edition, but it still is not available and it's already October. So instead I opted for the black blade version which I thought looked pretty cool. The action was stiff coming out of the box and I could not adjust the knife to get smooth blade deployment without creating unacceptable blade play and throwing the blade centering off. I opted to return the Para 3 knife and instead ordered the Sage 5 LW which looks very impressive and is just a little higher priced. I love your innovative designs and just wanted to pass on my experience.

That's not a washer built into the FRN mold as he says, that's just blade constantly rubbing against FRN. I believe they will determine the whole "one washer" thing was a mistake after they get complaints about action after a while. I could be wrong, but I'll pass until we get more feedback on that.

How long will we have to wait for a para 2 lightweight lol ? Love that you kept the compression lock and added the radius on the corners nice job! I see one of these in my future.

Great video! Going through the features of the design and construction has really sold me on the knife. I really want one.
But is there anyway to get a definitive measurement of the blade length? Eric measured it here at 3” and most retailers have it listed at 3” also. But I’ve also seen a site that has it at 2.92” and Nick Shabazz also measured it at under 3” in his review.
This is important to me because blades UNDER 3” are legal where I live, while 3” blades are not. It’s stupid, I know, but millions of us live in cities with blade length restrictions like this and are not able to legally carry all those knives that measure in right at 3”, while 2.9” is fine.
As lame as it is, blade length laws are probably worth considering with future designs also, since a tenth of an inch can open up the market to millions of potential customers.
