- A United Nations human rights expert on Friday disputed Malaysia's assertion that it has nearly eliminated poverty, saying that official figures were vastly inaccurate and do not reflect realities on the ground.
Malaysia's official poverty rate dropped from 49% in 1970 to just 0.4% in 2016.
But Philip Alston, UN special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, said the official numbers relied on outdated measures, with the poverty line remaining at the same level for decades despite increasingly high costs of living.

Will be great if some good samaritans establish Rakyat national wage council. Have to get registered and call for membership to speak out officially on unfair salary and wages, job discrimination, welfare, etc.
@Robin C ,majority malaysians conduct daily grocery purchase as cash flow have almost dried out. Many a time I observe many hanging outside sundry shop counting their cash and planning what to purchase to stretch the ringgit purchase power. Some just rush inside the sundry shop and help themselves with a baby milk tin and instant escape to avoid getting caught. Seriously, people are struggling real bad and the government is hiding the facts.

Actually this is true all over the world in multitudes of country. Almost all politicians around the world fight for power rather than the citizens. Citizens ( the poor ) are merely tools to get you into power. Citizens are merely tax contributors. Citizens are merely soldiers you can train to die for in the politicians game of power. While almost all friends or connected people to the government are all well elites ( the super rich ) in each respective countries.

In construction industry, we are paying Bangladeshi workers RM80-100 for normal hours (8am-5pm) and OT is paid from 5pm at 1.5xnormal hourly rate. That nets you around RM3000 a month. We provide quarters for workers to stay near the job site too. Safety standards for construction is quite good today so work environment not as bad as before. I welcome all Malaysians to join our workforce provided one can work under the hot sun and cangkul all day... That is the lowest rate for current market. For tradesman, we are paying Indonesians RM150 and upwards. For crane operators, the industry standard is RM4000 and up. Anyone interested can DM me.

Our ringgit drop in value and the people's purchasing power shrank. For example we can survive with $980 a month...but it was 10 - 15 years ago. Now how to survive? With this figure we barely survive. A plate of mixed rice is already $6 - $10. To survive you need at least $30 for a day just for food and drinks. $30 X 30 = $900 per person. ( just food alone ). What about accommodation? What about transport? Going to work for example ? What about basics like electricity and water? $900 is just food ok. So the poverty figure is wrong is correct.
The prime minister never favored salary increment based on inflation and rakyat welfare. The was no clear concessions between employees and employers regarding wages and benefits from 1981 so, today we face the brunt.

Gaji sejak dulu tidak naik bedasarkan kadar pertumbuhan ekonomi. Kejatuhan nilai Ringgit tidak diambil berat oleh kerajaan, menyebabkan kita lebih miskin. Dulu RM1 = SGD1. Sekarang RM3 = 1SGD. Kita sekarang 3 kali ganda lebih miskin dari Singapura. Rakyat hanya mewah dalam negara, tapi tak mampu ke luar negara. Kerajaan dari dulu tidak membincangkan ini, malah sebaliknya melaungkan kejatuhan nilai ringgit memberi kesan positif kepada ekonomi, kerana kos pengeluaran lebih rendah berbanding negara maju. Tapi sekarang apa sudah jadi.

1. Materialistic - lack of awareness among citizen
2. High housedebt due to loan for property or rent & vehicle ownership
3. High loan debt due to high property price (spike circa 2010~2012, tax relaxed by Pak lah years before that) - poor previous government policy
4. Salary does not grow in line with property prices, basic stuff inflation
5. High vehicle ownership due to mediocre public transport policy - government policy
6. Too much dependancy on oil & gas revenue
7. Corruption - not tackle properly by previous government
8. Wealth concentrated among few elites - promoted by previous gomen

Just looking at the basic salary fr a fresh grad and all the requirements placed on even a highly college educated person, and you'll know tht it's pretty much slave labour. Msians hv been brainwashed into thinking tht we hv to "pay our dues" first. "RM2k per month is liveable in the city", but tht is ridiculous. But the reality is we are being used and manipulated. Middle class is shrinking, wealth gap is increasing. It's time to start paying a liveable wage!!! Stop lining the pockets of the c-level and give back to the backbone of the country - the working class.

FELDA pay their worker rm1000 only..and the worker need to work overtime everyday for they to get around rm1500...and they only been given leave 1 day a week...

Plantation workers get minimum wages RM1,100.00 They have Production Incentives of RM 2O0.00 and Sick Pay too.Beside that any extra productions,they were paid extra amount based on extra tonnage for harvester's
You want extra income of course you need to work extra times.
Leave's they have Medical leave,Annual Leave and all plantations in Semenanjung and other sector normal 1 day leave per week either Friday or Sunday.
Hope you can differenciate what is FELDA and what is FGV.
