I had the privilege of performing this with Judy as the conductor of the orchestra behind her. She was 84 years young. It was pure joy. God bless Judy.
Nobody can sing this song like Judy Collins. She sounds the same as she did 50 years ago! She has aged very gracefully... Thank you so much for your years, Judy this is still beautiful and it brings tears to these eyes.
My goodness. People usually lose that power or presence as they age, but this is just absolutely amazing. She has only gotten more amazing as time has gone by.
I used to listen to this with my father when I was 5. That was 45 years ago. He's gone but I still have the memory and the LP vinyl record. It still sounds just as good on my turn table with the diamond studio stylus. When I play it I can return to that moment 45 years ago. Thank you for your timeless gift to all of us.
I've had tickets for her for the last 3 years. (hurricane canceled it last year), and last Saturday night I checked off another thing on my "Bucket List" and saw her Iin Lenox Mass. (Tangelwood). She's 83. with a new very short haircut, and just miraculous performance.
If amethysts could sing - what an amazing observation. She definately makes this song a living entity. I love Streisands cover, but this is even more eclectic. A magical performance.
That's priceless! Thanks, and may I quote you? There's only Julie Covington comes close. As a very lapsed Catholic who doesn't know what to do any more I find it strange and ironic that I am drawn to influence from two marvelous persons whose initials are JC.
Judy Collins was born in Seattle, Washington on May 1st, 1939. She is a Grammy Award-winning American singer and songwriter with a career spanning over 60 years. She is known for her eclectic tastes in the material she records (which has included folk music, show tunes, pop music, rock and roll and standards) for her social activism, and for the clarity of her voice. Collins has released 28 studio albums, 4 live albums, numerous compilation albums and 4 holiday albums. Today, May 1st, 2021, she is celebrating her 82nd birthday. UPDATE: She is now 83 (May 1st, 2022). Now 84 (May 1st, 2023)
Face of an angel, voice of one too. In this dying world as the great tribulation draws near I'm so glad I grew up when the world was beautiful and singers like Judy were there.
I took my mom to see Judy Collins perform when she came to our city. Her performance of this song was nearly identical to this video. At her age to still have that voice is basically unheard of. She's still as good as she ever was. They'll never be another one like her.
Joan Baez is still the best along with Dolly Parton, not to forget Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris. I loved Judy Collins but when she became older her voice changed dramatically and she had a hard time keeping tune. So be careful who you think is the best. The others I mentioned could sing in so many different times and pitches. I was disappointed when Ms. Collins lost her beautiful tone and key when singing. Play another song when she is eve
Each time I hear this, I shed a tear or two. Her voice is so angelic. To know the meaning is even more heart breaking. Love you Judy and thank you for years and years of all your beautiful music.
Wow... Your cousin still has a beautiful voice and just as striking in looks... A beautiful lady, and we all know that beauty is way more than skin deep... I read somewhere that her voice and songs gave solace to soldiers in the meat grinder that was Viet Nam... I was too young for that, but I did serve.
Do you know what orchestra this is? The piano player looks familiar and I've seen him around before but some of those orchestra players look like they're young enough to be college students
This was one of my mom's favorite songs and favorite singers she passed away in 2017 my 28-year-old son Jeremiah passed away in 2021 from alcoholism at the age of 28 my 40-year-old daughter is having a major struggle right now with alcohol please pray for us thank you and thank you Judy❤😇🐸🙏🙏🙏❤
I am probably as a grizzled of an old coot as you, nothing wrong with tears. I am also an 82nd Airborne medic who held people in my arms as they left this world, wish they could have herd this song instead of looking at my ugly mug. So much pain. Stay Well!!!
This song doesn’t even reveal the scope of her voice. I’ve seen her several times over the last few years and never left without chills and goosebumps. If you have the opportunity, go hear her live. There has been no one since or today who can compare.
A TYPICAL 1970s Masterpiece...... i loved this when i was nine years old....i am 58 now...and this is making me cry writing this....remembering my childhood......i AM SO PROUD i was a 70s Child.........a magical joy that has never faded.......
Judy Collins has been my favorite female vocalist since 1968. She is an amazing artist with extraordinary skill , enormous talent and delightful grace . We are about the same age , and it amazes me that she still performs at such a high level ; her lovely voice is still totally intact . And her ease and Grace in performing hasn’t lost a step . Lovely Judy ( beautiful blue eyes ) inspires me to have vitality and vibrancy in my own way in my life . I am so grateful for this outstanding person . May she continue to enchant us with her God-given talent . Thank you , Judy . ❤️
I was so thrilled to see Judy Collins who I had admired for over 40 years, when she appeared on stage in Hobart Tasmania Australia. We were honoured with her presence in a relatively remote part of the world, probably because of her generosity , and we were excited to see her at all , but more so because she sang with solo piano and accompanied herself on guitar most of the time. Not only was her voice as beautiful as ever, but we were subject to a rare , and for us , a remarkably overwhelmingly emotional experience of hearing several on the songs sung “ a capella” , I.e. solo voice. How rare for any singer to perform without accompaniment let alone at her age. We felt very honoured.
Wow, this is incredibly beautiful. I think her voice is more beautiful now than when I listened to my parents' records of her when I was a child in the 1960s and 70s. How can someone's voice get better even into one's senior years? Whatever it may be, her singing is absolutely lovely. Thank you.
Just stunning. I listened to the original while rocking my first child to sleep after she was born. Judy still has such a radiant voice - the song and her rendition has always moved me to tears
Oh my! I have been researching information about this song, to no avail. I learned this song during my elementary grades. I taught it to my granddaughter who is now 18 years old. I hope someday I someone would come out to share some info about the origin of this song.❤❤❤
I am convinced that she has the most beautiful voice that will ever exist. it never changes with age for the worse like others, but only gets better like the finest whine.
I've loved her choice of songs and angelic voice since I first heard her sing this on the radio way back then. I was a teen then, and was surprised her Birthday was the same as mine, May 1. Would dance and exercise to her songs for years back then, then lost touch with her and her songs. Wasn't until I was like 50 that I stumbled upon her again. Still has the voice of an angel, that's for sure.
When Judy Collins first came to most people's attention with Amazing grace I had never heard a voice so pure and clear. Then here we are over fifty years later and the purity, beauty and timing are still there. An amazing talent that we have been lucky enough to witness for ourselves. Thank you Judy.
One of my favorite songs of all times but only when Judy sings it. No one else comes close, the emotional sadness she conveys is just incredibly beautiful.
for years I loved the song, but had no idea really what is was about---then one night I studied the song...and wow- it is so complex and sad. Learn the story if you have not.

Judy is so wonderful! :)
Sure, only Judy can sing this song like Judy. But Streisand's version, TO ME, is even more moving.
Tears still streaming after 50 years.
Vintage matured!@@MichaelAuthorAllAges
My goodness. People usually lose that power or presence as they age, but this is just absolutely amazing. She has only gotten more amazing as time has gone by.
my thoughts exactly. she adds the experience of time - phrases it perfectly and doesn't have anything to prove. her voice has aged like fine wine
I read that she has kept taking voice lessons and has larger range now then when she was younger!!!
Dear Sir:
Smoke&Mirrors….
But she is a Star... do you forget??
Just like old wine: "maturity" enhances the overall quality... we agree with your every word!
This lady is in a class all by herself. The Angels in Heaven take lessons from her. 🙏❤👼
She really took care of her voice over the years. She still sounds beautiful.
Taking care of your voice, remembering vocal technique---The DEAL.
Even better, just listened to a recording when she was much younger. That was good but this is great.🎉
I used to listen to this with my father when I was 5. That was 45 years ago. He's gone but I still have the memory and the LP vinyl record. It still sounds just as good on my turn table with the diamond studio stylus. When I play it I can return to that moment 45 years ago. Thank you for your timeless gift to all of us.
Just stunning at age 82. His light is shining on her.
ALSO 82, I AGREE
Bill beautiful analysis.
A wonderful rendition by a beautiful lady.
The woman ages with grace✨
One of THE most magnificent voices of my time.
Indeed 🙏
My late wife’s favourite! Always found the album Judith on the turntable when I got home. Miss you so much.
She hasn't lost a bit of her voice. This is absolutely amazing!! I remember hearing this song as a child. I'm now 57. What a gift.
Saw her this past summer, but she didn't sing this one. I've seen her twice, thankfully. Now she has short hair.
It’s been said that if amethysts could sing, they’d sound like Judy Collins. Stunning and beautiful!

Happy belated birthday, sweet Judy. Love your work and passion ❤✌
Thank you. Buetiful.
So beautiful. Sondheim was so lucky to have this lady sing his song.
Thank you for a wonderful song.
A good voice, she could and others like her can skip social activism we don't need their leftist plaver.
Face of an angel, voice of one too. In this dying world as the great tribulation draws near I'm so glad I grew up when the world was beautiful and singers like Judy were there.
Yes! So many beautiful singers. Judy, Joni Mitchell, Carole King...
Her voice hasn't aged, if anything it is richer and more beautiful.
So true! The production quality and halo effect are so heart felt and sincere as clear as her lovely voice! 🎉
Wow that Oboe was killing perfect!
Cor Anglais, similar to but deeper in pitch than the oboe.
@@keeshond8 thank you, I just discovered it was the EH (English Horn)
Gorgeous and stirring of deep emotions.
My thoughts exactly.
Wow ... Judy is one of those rare talents whose voice has remained virtually (remarkably) unchanged. Send in the Clowns will always be hers.
To me, It is the most beautiful love song ever, and performed by an angel.
Judy Collins is a Legend, National Treasure Absolute Icon
I took my mom to see Judy Collins perform when she came to our city. Her performance of this song was nearly identical to this video. At her age to still have that voice is basically unheard of. She's still as good as she ever was. They'll never be another one like her.
I agree. Joan Baez, from the same era, still performs, but just sounds so much older... no clear voice anymore, when compared to Judy
Judith Durham held it together just as well, just not for quite as long.
How very true. 🎶🎶
Where did you goto see her, I when to her Nottingham concert. Love it x

The orchestra is also amazing
What an exquisite performance from Judy. Her voice has certainly not suffered from decades of performing. Beautiful!
This song immediately starts to remind you of people you have lost. This is an amazing song.
Like listening to angels singing
Heaven on earth.
this is a song made for the brave !
Each time I hear this, I shed a tear or two. Her voice is so angelic. To know the meaning is even more heart breaking. Love you Judy and thank you for years and years of all your beautiful music.
Snap
Love
Praise to Judy, but also to the cellist with that wonderful opening.
Watching this is like 1967 all over again! All of us have aged -- but she is still the same.
totally agree. seeing her on 8/30/24 in Mass.
She is a cousin of mine, always have enjoyed her music since I was very young. She is unwavering perfection
Wow... Your cousin still has a beautiful voice and just as striking in looks... A beautiful lady, and we all know that beauty is way more than skin deep... I read somewhere that her voice and songs gave solace to soldiers in the meat grinder that was Viet Nam... I was too young for that, but I did serve.
Truly unwavering perfection indeed! That is a marvelous insight! Judy is an icon and a pioneer! The color and timber is still beautiful!
Do you know what orchestra this is? The piano player looks familiar and I've seen him around before but some of those orchestra players look like they're young enough to be college students
Woah! Age has not done a thing to Judy’s voice. I cannot get over her vocal control. ❤

Thoughts and prayers with you ❤

I will be praying for you and your family.Jesus is the comforter.
Only the best for you .
Judi Collins only gets better and better over time. Astonishing!
The voice of an angel. Stunning
Agreed 👍👍👍👍
Such a sustained pure voice. Never needs to embellish to show off her range. Always peaceful.
From a 75 year grizzled old coot….the tears flowed. And freely.
I am probably as a grizzled of an old coot as you, nothing wrong with tears.
I am also an 82nd Airborne medic who held people in my arms as they left this world, wish they could have herd this song instead of looking at my ugly mug. So much pain.
Stay Well!!!
*Bless you. I'm 25 and know nothing about the world. This song and performance also brought me to tears.*
Bingo again
Curious... do coots come in non-grizzled?
@@akrenwinkle only those that are non-ursine.
Judy sounds as beautiful as she is to this day. God bless you Judy Collins.
Stay Well!!!

I would bet your mom was the sweetest girl!
@@danielserene4532 so beautifully respectful and appreciate of her vocation
Where did the time go.. when music had true meaning.
I first heard Judy Collins over 45 years ago as a boy growing up and she still sounds great!
Agree. I've seen her recently. OMG, bill here
REST IN PEACE STEPHEN SONDHEIM.

Those vocal chords have top quality genetics. Was mighty surprised by how intact her talent is. Rare. ✊
I have no words that would deserve to describe this beautiful voice
Exactly

God given talent.
Takes me back to my child hood, happier times.

When my Grandfather took his last breath my Aunt played this for him per his request. So sad.

Who ever thought that a slow sad song could be so cool? She pulls it off quite well ! You go Judy !
Thank you Stephen. Judy you still have it voice in beauty. "Isn't it bliss?"
