The R with the DSG really punches above its weight because the DSG keeps the turbo on boil at WOT and it is super efficient at maximizing its power. It's a badass little car that should not be slept on, even in stock form, especially from a dig. That said, it sounded as though the Mustang driver was making himself a sandwhich between shifts.
Former S550 owner here. Had a bolt on 19 PP1 car with 10A and I’m impressed with how well the GolfR works ! I know the manual Stang isn’t the hero 1/4 mile car compared with the 10R80, and your friend obviously hasn’t learned to effectively power shift, but even taking that stuff into account your R was impressive to me. If I’m ever shopping in that category again I’d definitely consider buying one ;)
Also another thing to consider the 2018 thru 2020 Gts are marginally quicker considering that they’re 460hp 420 TQ not much but every bit helps lol. Once I pay off my 2020 Gtpp1 I’m planning on getting a Golf R since I love VW

I just discovered Sport + mode in my R (I know I'm late AF) and there is actually a noticeable difference in how fast and responsive it is compared to normal sport which I drive in like 99% of the time. I just can't imagine this car at stage 2 and beyond especially on E85.
several reviews on UA-cam said Nurbuger mode was the same as racing, but with softer suspenstion, being the actual Nurberger road isn't the smoothest...and tight sport suspension inhibits teh power getting to the road

My wife and I really wanted a new MK8 Golf R so we went to the dealership. Told the guy what we wanted, he laughed and said "Are you joking? They aren't making them anymore and all 1300 are allocated" He did a national search and showed none available. He then smiles and says "If you want a used one though, we just got one in and it looks brand new". It was a 2022 with only 8k miles on it! We signed and now have that gem in the driveway with an ECS carbon fiber intake, MBRP catback, and bigger intercooler. It will be getting the downpipe and tune in the next 2 weeks. This car amazes me at 315 hp...cant wait to see what it does at 450+

Mustang driver just gotta get his shifts more on point for those rolls. Keep practicin' The golf Rs move though, I have a G37 and even though I make more power, when tuned they really go. And the handling ain't so bad either, they move and get through with no issue, no visible body roll. Definitely considered one
I roll race in “RACE” because it automatically up shifts. If I wasn’t holding the camera, I could race in Nurburgring, then quickly flick the nugget after the takeoff so it’s not locked in manual mode.
Likewise for me (MK7 APR Stage 2 manual, Southbend Stage 3 clutch). Mustang GT's have always been my hero cars (I had a 2000) so it's nice to know my car is a worthy contender.

Epic, of the line as expected ,golf beat it, but it did look like the mustang wasnt pulling on it that much in a roll race im shocked, I think the problem of the mustang is the weight, it's a heavy car , if the golf r is keeping up with the mustang that well, God knows what a tune would do, it would probably leave a mustang behind easily. The golf r is nice and it's quick for what it is. But the mustang has enough power to move its own weight. The problem is the stock shifter/gearing. And the driver. Im not saying I'm a God tier driver or anything. But I raced a e85 tuned 10 speed in my gen 3 with a mcloed rst clutch as the only mod aside from a catback and the 10 speed got me by about a car and a bumper. This video just really highlights how crucial it is to have efficient gearing and trans. Same reason the 10 speed is so quick. Not dragging the golf but it is what it is.
Nice vid. The m6 s550’s have atrocious long gears from ‘18+. It’s crazy because this wouldn’t even be a race if this mustang had the a10 trans. Not to sound like an a10 fanboy I’m just speaking facts

Haha god damn man. Basically on the lower speed rolls he is struggling to get you at all. Had to give him the high 60 mph roll runs to get you at the end. Imagine putting a simple tune on the R now. Would be game over even if he tuned the Mustang

Why not compare the Golf with the 2.3 Mustang? That will be a better comparison as the Mustang has the 2.3 L like the Focus RS. But the Mustang has a bit more power than the RS, that is a split second faster than the R, with a bit more torque and KW as well. I'm not 100% sure about the KW but it is close.
@@JVette01 Checked up on tests on earlier model,and same engine in the Focus. According to that,the Focus was actually faster from take off as the Golf. 4.6 against 4.7 from take off to 100. More torque as well from the Focus. With this new 2.3 Mustang that is more potent than the Focus I can't see the small Mustang humiliated. Just asking after watching the specs and comparison tests. Golf has more luxuries yes.
I personally love nothing more than seeing mustangs being humbled and put in their place. But this should have been 10 speed vs DSG to keep things fair.
@@19hundoc47it's stock mt82 clutch problems. Someday you'll shift quickly and it will feel good. Other days you might shift too high and the clutch will lock you out from the next gear.
@@layne4376 they needed 2 to make up for the lack of breathing by the carbon traps they were forced to put in each intake. Remember when the Gen 3 went from 460 to 450Hp? The only real change was the carbon trap. These dual intakes are a way to make up for that.

@JVette01 I was literally at the dealership ready to trade the Golf R for a CTR because the TCU can't be cracked yet. I was getting cold feet and took a break when this video came up on my feed. Watching the Golf R destroy the GT from a Dig and surprisingly hang close on the rolls made me come to my senses. And not get totally screwed on purchase and trade because of emotions. I had never seen a CTR in person, and it's great in a different way, but was a little disappointed with the chessy cloth back seats. Thanks 😎

@@mattjubie It's definitely different. The revs are held much highrer than Race mode, and yes, the suspension only gets softer if you have DCC.

Very impressive, I guess the manual might help out with 60-130 rolls, as you know the 10 speed mustang beats the manual by 2-3 cars from the 40-120

4cylinder turbo is not really for high speed roll, city driving is the king, golf r can beat all N/A V8s no problem.
