While this may be a loose style, your precision in placement of each brushstroke comes from your years of experience and artist’s eye. I’m watching thinking “Surely he’s done now…..wait, surely now…oh that looks better…how did he know to do that?!” I love your demos. They’re a meditative experience watching creation take shape. Thank you!
I wish I could appreciate this style but honestly it just looks gosh I don’t know too simple. I love they way talented artists can use a few strokes and entice the viewer into understanding all that is left out but I can’t. Those trees look so u.n.-tree like. They look like blobs of color to me. But you Paul and make anything look lovely so I’ll keep trying to see things your way.
Hi Paul. Peter from Noosa Australia. Great demo. There is nothing like the feeling of loose watercolour, that is once you get used to it. You are soo right in your tips. By the way, just found you so I guess I have some catching up to do. P.S. Paul I hope that some may read this comment, because I am going to tell all that not many artists on utube give of their knowledge and love of giving so generously. You sir are one. More power to you and keep up the good work.
I like many of your students feel the need to loosen up, I think a lot of that comes with practice! I think you need the practice to be more confident in your brushstrokes. Its also nice to know your heroes had heroes. Thanks for posting this...
I enjoyed and loved this loose style! Your tips are very helpful and will try to follow them. I have heard you mention in the the past that you have Facebook followers. I am not familiar with that. Thank you for helping us to be better artist. Kathy. Toronto, Ontario Canada
I enjoyed watching you paint this lovely scene. I'll look up the artist. It's nice to be exposed to artists' techniques. You look at art differently, knowing a bit about them. Thank you, Sir. It's always a pleasure spending time with you all the way from Illinois.
It looks so easy... I am one of these painters who always puts in tons of detail, but I would love t paint looser with my watercolors. I think I might try this challenge.
All of your paintings are stunning whether they be loose, abstract or detailed. The humour you always put in each tutorial makes them fun to see every Wednesday. Thank you for this lovely loose painting and for the marvellous techniques on how to paint a loose painting. Thanks also for showing us some paintings of this artist who lived ago.
I have been enjoying your videos for a few weeks now. Ever since I wanted to revisit my childhood with pen and ink, sorry line and wash. I really like the final result you did here. My question is can you see the finished painting in your head before you start?
It is really helpful to have the finished painting appear as the video progresses. I then know where you are going and I get the "AHA" moments when I understand how you got there!
Watching you make each little mark is like watching a master create perfection. I don’t know if that can be taught. It’s probably some Devine inspiration. This was so beautiful and inspiring. Your videos are the best part of Wednesday! (Well after God of course. 🥰🙏🏻) I’m very grateful that God put a desire in you to paint and to share it with others. Your tips are very helpful and the most important of all is to have fun. You make painting a joyful experience. Thank you! 😊❤🎨🖼🖌
Thank you for this tutorial Paul. I remember watching my Dad paint watercolour landscapes on holidays when I was little. I was always impressed at how he could make abstract shapes look like trees or hills or whatever. I think he may have been inspired by Wesson. My watercolour is a very different style, I rarely paint landscapes, but its always fun to practice a different technique. Thank you for so clearly taking us through the steps. :)
It never fails to amaze me to see what you are able to do with a few brushstrokes, Paul. Really inspiring. Never heard of this painter before, but trying this is a definite. Thank you!
Wow! Your approach is so... approachable. I really dig your sense of humor as well. I've been illustrating for most of my life. I'm 65 now, and just making inroads into watercolor. I'm from Chile, grew up in California, and would love to paint scenes, especially of the lake district or Patagonia in the south of Chile. Thank you for the great tips and advice. Greetings from northern California.
Love your inspiration series, and how you recreate the same vibe in your own style! The masters you try to emulate will be proud. Thanks for all the loose painting tips!
As ever Paul enjoyed it from start to finish loved it thanks. Oh by the way don't worry about not having a mid session tipple I had one for you a jackdaniels honey and you really enjoyed it happy days !!!
Great rendition of Wesson style of loose watercolour. The demonstration was quick and direct without fuss or bother. I hope I can glean some of these wonderful tips and advice. Thank you so much.
Dear Paul, I thank you for the transitions the don't flash with the bright light. I can watch them again. I had stopped because of my migrains. I will watch every one now. It's the little things that are big things for me! Sherry
I love this way to paint. I realized the importance of the details carefully put at the end. Of course I will research this watercolor artist and try to paintt as an exercise.
such a gift you have for being true to your calling you so bless so many when you reveal the unique Artist you are and that we too can become thank you, Paul!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm in love with your videos!!! I finished the peacock painting and it was my first time. I so happy with the results. Thank you for the joyful relaxing videos!❤️
Paul, I love your tutorials! All of your paintings are gorgeous! Diane Antone Studio gave you a nice shout out the other day and I was pleased with that. I love her channel and I love when artists take the time to mention other artists that have inspired them. Your videos are always something I look forward to. Education and humor. How can life get any better. Thank you Paul!
Please don’t ever stop teaching , I’ve just recently found you and Margot and my mind is blown at so much talent and passion in what you do , and you’re both funny to boot ! My passion is art, I’ve always known I’m an artist , just gettin a late start at 52 . It’s been bottled up inside me and I felt like I didn’t know how to express it correctly with watercolor until now, so thank you Paul (which is also my dads name) for all you’ve done for me as an artist !
Thank you, Paul!!! You always share new art with us and make it interesting! One day, you can demonstrate the fabulous Paul Nicholas Clark... maybe sporting your favorite mustache 😁... As always, from a grateful California Gramma ❤️
Really enjoyed this, I am struggling with loose techniques and have started the same painting half a dozen times. This has reminded me of so much I need to apply. Here goes the next and final attempt 👍
Wow...wow..wow... you are so talented Paul. I absolutely love this painting of yours. If only I could paint like that, my dreams would come true. I haven't been painting long but every time I try to do loose painting I get carried away and fiddle to much and then it just looks like a blob. I'm going to have to try again and try this one. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Amazing.
Thanks for another wonderful watercolor Paul. Your advice to practice different styles is a great idea. I will try this loose style in my next watercolor. Greetings!
I have watched this twice and enjoyed it so much that I am going to try this looser approach. Also Wish I lived there so I could take your classes. But you live across the Atlantic . A little far , I'm afraid. Paul have a great day and stay safe.
That was one of the most relaxing painting videos I have watched in a long time!! The looseness and description and the painting itself! You definitely conjured loose and relaxed!
This is the tutorial I need right now! My paintings have got to the stage where they are reliably ‘ok’, but equally reliably, a bit laboured. I’ve written down your five tips (I split tip 5 into 5 and 5a 🙂) and will try to use them all. Many thanks.
This is brilliant work and an inspiration. Thank you for your great suggestions. I have loved painting my whole life, but am just beginning to learn and hopefully master watercolors.
great demo. i'm also a fan of the late Wesson. just found you here and love your work as you paint exactly as you are explaining with expert skill. thank you so much for giving to us all with such enthusiasm and passion. from Melbourne Oz.
I love the real time sections! I'm trying so hard to loosen up. I (unintentionally) compensate for my inexperience by being very precise, which has the exact opposite effect that I want, of course. 😑 Seeing you be both precise and loose is really good for me.
Thank you for sharing this lovely demo of the loose, Wesson approach. Ron Ranson also had this light, loose but well-planned method. So apparently simple but oh, so difficult. I have no trouble painting more tightly and have been doing so for years and have learned all the skills, thanks to artists' tutorials like yours. However, choosing a good reference photo and trying my best to simplify and loosen up just defies me. Very discouraging. Thanks again.
Thanks again for your beautiful and helpful tutorials. Compliments! I have a small request among the many that reach you: could you do a tutorial on your watercolor that you loved so much "On the Yare" even if it won't be the same again today, but as they say first love is never forgotten, and time it makes certain memories even more beautiful because it enriches them with what time has taught us and given us by living .. thanks Chiara Campomori🌼
About to dive into a few fast 9x12 loose paintings, since I can feel myself fiddling and tightening up! Love your videos, I started watching you in 2021 and now I sell my art on etsy.
While this may be a loose style, your precision in placement of each brushstroke comes from your years of experience and artist’s eye. Thank you!
Great comment - thanks Caitlin!
Very beautiful my dear friend and artist
Very kind - thanks!
I enjoyed very much your demo! I Will try painting in a so loose way 😊
Have fun!
I wish I could appreciate this style but honestly it just looks gosh I don’t know too simple. I love they way talented artists can use a few strokes and entice the viewer into understanding all that is left out but I can’t. Those trees look so u.n.-tree like. Thanks for sharing your views on painting to simulate accomplished works. I felt it helped me to grow, but wasn’t sure how it was viewed.
Glad it was helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
I absolutely love this loose painting style! Thank you for introducing the artist and doing this painting
Thank you so much 😀
Hi Paul. Peter from Noosa Australia. Great demo. There is nothing like the feeling of loose watercolour, that is once you get used to it. You are soo right in your tips.

That's a lovely comment Peter - thanks for sharing!
Super fun! Very difficult but fortunately the Magic Water Colour Fairy did a good job overnight. Best wishes and many thanks from Sunny Sevenoaks.
Great to hear ... from sunny Sevenoaks!

Hiya - check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/igeLUsfmaVg/v-deo.html
Paul your my favourite new watercolourist. I love your loose style off painting 👍
Thank you so much 😀
I like the tip about holding your brush farther from the bristles. Makes so much sense, I will try it. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I like many of your students feel the need to loosen up, I think a lot of that comes with practice! I think you need the practice to be more confident in your brushstrokes. Its also nice to know your heroes had heroes. Thanks for posting this...
many thanks Rob!
I enjoyed and loved this loose style! Your tips are very helpful and will try to follow them.
I have heard you mention in the the past that you have Facebook followers. I am not familiar with that. Thank you for helping us to be better artist. Kathy. Toronto, Ontario Canada
Thanks for sharing Kathy from Toronto .... Go Leafs!!! - yes we have a Facebook Group - very helpful and encouraging!
Love this loose style I find it hard to stop fiddling though. Thank you for the tips.
You can do it!
I enjoyed watching you paint this lovely scene. I'll look up the artist. It's nice to be exposed to artists' techniques. You look at art differently, knowing a bit about them.
Thank you, Sir. It's always a pleasure spending time with you all the way from Illinois.
My pleasure - Mary from Illinois!

Wonderful Paul ans so interesting tecnics. Thank you 🤩
Glad you enjoyed it
I have been enjoying your videos for a few weeks now. Ever since I wanted to revisit my childhood with pen and ink, sorry line and wash. I really like the final result you did here. My question is can you see the finished painting in your head before you start?
Thanks Ian - I do see the finished painting in my head but the finished result is usually very different!!
Love your loose style! Please do more! ❤
Will do!
It is really helpful to have the finished painting appear as the video progresses. I then know where you are going and I get the "AHA" moments when I understand how you got there!

Thanks so much!
Hallo Paul. Thanks to your videos, I learn a lot and improve my technique. Thanks a lot. I also bought your book, I liked it very much.❤💚💙💜

That was brilliant. I really enjoyed it. Gonna try a few free and loose pieces. I like the effect, and the end result. It does look painterly. Cheers.
Dear Paul, I thank you for the transitions the don't flash with the bright light. I can watch them again. I had stopped because of my migrains. I will watch every one now. It's the little things that are big things for me! Sherry
You are very welcome Sherry
Excellent lesson! I could see how you painted in intentional and deliberate strokes while keeping it loose. Finished product, excellent painting!!!
Thank you very much!
Well done!! You stopped without overworking it. I love your advice mixed with the painting .
Thank you so much!
I love this way to paint. I realized the importance of the details carefully put at the end. Of course I will research this watercolor artist and try to paintt as an exercise.
