Stand while painting. Use a big brush. Paint from the shoulder, nit the wrist. Hold brush at end of handle, nit close to the ferrel. Tape a stick onto brush to make a longer handle. Work quickly, allow for a shorter time. Use plenty of water. Squint your eyes, to edit reference to just the most basic information.

Watching this again. I used to have a very loose abstract style 30 years ago, but I’ve lost it. Now in my 80’s I want it back. This is reminding me of how I used to work. Thank you Howard.

Wow! This has made me see so much that I hadn’t really thought about. Interesting seeing those two paintings of the loose way and the other of the tight way. The loose trees look like trees, they look like, living things, while the tight style one looks like a symbol of a tree and in the tight tree group the trees seem stylized, not real, again more like symbols than real trees. laSomething that might work in a cartoon. I’m also thrilled seeing you use the brush that way. So right that we automatically hold the brush like a pen!

Thank you, Mr. Jones. Very useful and informative tutorial on Watercolor indeed. I have no knowledge about painting but I’m truly impressed with your comment that you wanted your work interact with the viewers. That brings me to the next level! Thank you.

    very useful !
I was wondering how to do loose brush work wet on wet , you have given a demo of seemingly dry on dry only.
Maybe more loose style demos will help like dry on wet, wet or wet.
I would also like to share that brushes like filbert , angled , cats tongue , dagger and the sword type gives beautiful effects.
