- Families across New York City are having money stolen from their SNAP benefits. They go to grocery shop with their EBT cards that hold their SNAP benefits, and their money is gone.
Anyone who participates in doing fraud against the poor especially senior citizens deserves imprisonment or a lengthy hospital stay. May God provide for that woman and her grand children.
Everyone that votes democrat is guilty of that. They are robbing us with their high price of everything. In two years they managed to double the price of damn near everything and they have drained what little the seniors saved and now they are broke and making sacrifices. Should I pay for my meds that I need and now more expensive or pay the electric bill? That's a reality I'm living. Even funerals are way up. I can't even afford to die thanks to them. You want to help the seniors. Put the last guy back in. At least life was affordable.

Yup that just happened to me yesterday $840 taken in which $550 was my child’s ‘child support money !’ People can be so freakn Evil ! But it’s okay though because their going to get caught really soon ! In February 2021, I got a money order there using a bank debit card and when the following months bank statement came, the debit card was swiped twice even though my receipt only showed being charged once. The bank returned the money to me but I knew it has to be the employee that double swiped the card. That Stop and Shop location needs to be investigated.

I was thinking this too because I got approved in April and by July someone begin stealing my funds and when I got my card from SSI I had to punch in my pin on the machine at the SSI office to activate my card. My cousin has EBT too but she got her card from upstate NY & had hers for years we do the grocery shopping together & go to all the same exact stores but only my funds were stolen and not hers.

Oh damn, we neighbors, lol! I live near 170th & Jerome. I don't trust those check cashing joints; too many fees. I feel bad for your friend. They truly rip off and scam the hardworking and struggling folks. Tell your friend to file a police report for theft (make a paper trail) and contact local politicians such as the Bronx borough President. Any questions, feel free to ask. 😊
1 in 4 of the bodegas out there use a skimmer. If you hand the EBT card over and it leaves your sight never enter your pin on the keypad.
It is not just EBT skimming. There is theft going on at that particular store. In February 2021, I went to get a money order for my mom at the customer service in that specific store. The clerk swiped the debit card and got a money order. I looked at the receipt and it was one transaction however the next month my mom received her bank statement and someone had swiped twice for same amount of the money order. Fortunately the bank was able to get my mother's money back. It was traced back to that customer service desk at that Stop and Shop. There is a history of theft at that particular Stop and Shop. This is nothing new and that Stop and Shop location needs to be investigated.
This happened to me last week…one store in nyc charged $120 off my card when I brought a sandwich for $10

I live in Pennsylvania the same thing happened to me last month I went to swipe my card, And every penny was withdrawn but for 17 cents $354. I'm a diabetic with cancer and need special food and struggle the entire last month. I called my county DPW office and they said there was nothing they could do. I am disabled and do not drive and my card was used in Coral Springs Florida at a Sam's club on a Saturday I've never been to Coral Springs. I think it's awful and I don't know what the States expect us recipients to do to eat to sustain ourselves. I'm extremely upset and my words fall on deaf ears

In Illinois, new cards will be issued to give SNAP receipents the option to freeze the account after each use.

To add to my original comment: in no way am I saying everyone with an EBT should open a go fund me account. This woman had her money stolen and her grandkids are without food. I could care less if that money was from a debit card, credit card or food stamps, if someone was a victim of a scam or fraud I feel for them. Unfortunately, not all of those cases get televised so we only know what makes headlines. You also can’t assume she doesn’t work. Working people can get food stamps too. And lastly, you never know when you might be next signing up for benefits yourselves. That’s why most people don’t openly ask for help because folks have so much to say about it. On the flip side, I can say I’ve seen first hand that some people do abuse the system. They make it harder for people truly in need. Still, we can’t assume that every single person is a bum collecting benefits that doesn’t want to work.

But even though you feel that way, I can’t say you’re wrong. I watched a family member purposely stay unemployed to collect those same benefits, and in those instances I agree. People should go out and get a job if they have the ability to do so.

It is easy to track where the money has gone, because it cannot be deposited in a bank account. It has to be redeemed and charged at a food facility. Today, most food facilities are equipped with cameras.
My funds were stolen in July also and when I called they would not disclose to me where my funds were stolen from smh all they could do is tell me the date it was stolen but not where, That made absolutely no sense me.
I don't use my EBT card everywhere tho nor my debit card my local bodega n grocery store

The cost of living is high food prices are up is too expensive even people who are the middle class are struggling. People lost there jobs due to Covid is hard on everyone. U could be working and still Qualify for food stamps. You never know if u could be in this situation. There are people who are trying to get a job . Many were layoff. Some cannot work for heath reason we can judge anyone we don’t know the reason why this person is need of food stamps . Maybe she does work part time or full time and still qualify.

This happened to my kids mother for 900 dollars, she called the food Stam people and they said there's nothing they can do to go ask BJ's about it. Which is what shows the money went to. But she don't have a BJ account and don't shop there.

Save the receipt and call the card to check before useing it.
They took cash from my EBT right at midnight when I was home the next morning it had only the food stamps .I called the number to hear the balance in the card and the voice said an ATM withdrawal was issued on ....(date) etc I only use the bank of America to withdraw cash and only shop at Foodtown where the machine is small bythe cashier supervised by them ,so the EBT didn't give me the cash and the bank said EBT is not a bank of America account so they didn't give me the money, so change your pin often usually before you're getting the money so if they have your pin when the card is replenish will not work and after too

Yup I live in Farrockaway as well and my funds was stolen this summer they stole it 12@m on the dot the day it was loaded on my card so I couldn’t get to my benefits before them. Now I’m two steps ahead of them so moving forward no more money has been stolen. & No my stolen funds were not reimbursed to me either.

The stores have to have something to do with it that they're going to cuz how would they have the four digit PIN
EBT card use needs to be restricted to the State that issues the benefits!
The problem with that is that some people live near another state and have to cross state lines to buy groceries, because they live in area where the nearest grocery store might be in another state.

Here is the thing though, this happened to me a few day ago. The transaction was made in New York, where I don't live. I don't go to gas stations or anything like that. This happened on the day that the benefits were deposited to my card. Before I leave I always check my balance. Before I could even leave to go to the market the funds were gone. I wish people would stop lumping everybody in the same category. I go to markets, how the hell did this even happen? I use RFID blocking wallets. I don't let anybody use my card and I'm careful when entering my pin. Again, I ask how the hell did this happen? It's not fair to make the assumption that everyone who receives these benefits are the same, do the same or need the benefits for the same reason.
