- I hated our fake wood-toned Ikea Kallax so much and now I don't hate it anymore.
Watch the video to learn stuff. Like how to paint IKEA laminate furniture without sanding, and how to get the look of cane (rattan or whatever) at a fraction of the cost.

I love how genuine and realistic this content is! Other UA-camrs expect you to have all these fancy gadgets, an excess of $30000 and the blood of a virgin to be able to accomplish these upgrades however this is actually doable! Thank you!
thank you ! 🥰
Yeah sooo true. The first ever doable diy i could follow. In a budget. Hahaha thankyou very much.
LOL !!! The accuracy
Oh please, circular saws are cheap as heck and even a brand new table saw is only going to be like $600-1000. And that's *new*, you don't have to get it new.
It's silly to act like owning a tool is some big sin. Go on your local resale pages and you'll see how easy it is to pick stuff up for cheap.
@@PoshPennieshi Vivien,
I can give you one hint for the doors.
If you get wallpaper glue and soak the burlap in it after drying it will be like hard panel.
It will not be a flimsy fabric.
We used to make chandeliers with rope ,beach ball ,and wallpaper glue.
When it dries we deflate the ball and cut with scissors the shape of the chandelier the way we like it.
I have been stretching fabric for years. A small tip is to dampen the burlap with a spray bottle. Keep watch on your warp and weft and don't over stretch, just a slight amount of tension before you staple. This way, you have a taught drumlike finish to the burlap, when dry.
A tiny amount of wood glue or even Elmers, on the inside edge is also a good idea.
This is so great, and love the "feet", they really do lighten it.
HD would also cut you a "Luan" backer board. 1/2" smaller than the actual dimension of the back so you have 1/4" shy, all the way around. 😍
If you were to start over, how big would you make the spaces between each door, so they could open horizontally instead of vertically?
I am in awe. This hack is simply AMAZING! You are a genius.
Omg, this is so nice and what a cool result! I didn't know you could give that much life back into ikea furniture, really well done!
Loooved this! It turned out amazing 🤩 And totally agree with other people! This is actually doable without having to buy tons of equipment that I wouldn’t even know how to use! Keep these videos coming ❤️❤️🥰🥰
I love how real this is. It gives me a lot of confidence about trying it too.
This was fantastic! I bought a couple of the black Kallax units about 5 years ago, and I am over the black for sure. This gives me inspiration to paint them...and add feet. Thank you!
You had me at 'however, I just can't be bothered'! Thank you for this fantastic post!
actually love how sheer the burlap looks. its a nice textural change to cane we often see.
Yes, girl I've been waiting for this video! Thank you.
I like your simplified door assembly. It’s perfect for my project and skill level!
This is awesome! I have been regretting buying a piece of furniture and I think I'm going to try and create this look!
Yay! You painted your pieces prior to assembly! 👏👏👏 I watch so many DIY’ers assemble and then paint. I smh while I watch them waste time & effort painting into tight corners.
Glad I found your video in the middle of upcycling my ikea kallax, thanks for the tip, I love it!
Great video, as always. I really love how thing went wrong and you found new and novel ways of getting back on course. Although, you should mark the video with cane and burlap so people specifically looking for cane can find this video and realise that they can substitute.
This is such a fantastic hack! I'm going to try it out on my own kallax unit! Thanks so much for the video!
Beautiful!!! Love the outcome and the tips along the way! Love love love! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much! 😊
Loved your hack and easy solutions! ❤
Thats exactly what I want to do with my shelves. I'm glad I found your video! Thanks
I love the kallax, nothing dreaded about it. Great transformation.
Looks very nice. You should either turn under the selvedge edges of the burlap or cover them with trim or glue ribbon so they don't fray. Nice job
Pair your doors with a hinge so two open and fold, like kitchen corner cabinet doors! More practical and accessible. But Your Idea is WONDERFUL! Thanks for the vid!
That is a great idea
@@SM-yd8hq omg, such a good idea
Great job! Looks great! I was looking for exactly something like this. Thank you!!!
You are so handy! This looks great.
I actually like the burlap better. Everyone seems to have cane but the burlap is just as earthy and pretty. Fabulous hack that I wish I had a place to put a kallax and make one.
I really like seeing mistakes they help us all to improve our projects. When I just see perfection, mine never turn out that way causing frustration. But showing mistakes will happen and move on helps.
This looks sooooo good and the bottom hinge idea is the best!!!! I am going to do this to my cube this weekend!
This was exactly what I was looking for ! Thank you!!
The bottom hinge was ingenious since you didn’t want to start over. For me, however, it would be a pain to deal with. Thanks for sharing. If I try this, I will take the lesson you learned and will hopefully be able to get the hinges installed on the side, not bottom. Came out great! 👏
Love it!!! I feel like this makes me feel like I could actually do something like this. Also, love puppy appearance and your hair looks amazing 😏
Thank you!!! 😍💕
Instead of having the doors fold down and combined, you could have placed small hinges between the two doors in place of the brackets to create a folding door while still using the magnets but it would allow the doors to open to the side and improve efficiency and usability.
What? I can’t even see your comment
This looks great, gave me some ideas of a hack I'm working on. Keep the content coming.
This looks amazing!
Turned out fantastic 💚
Great job! I was actually looking for something to do with my tall "ugly" kallax.... you made it look so easy!! Thanks for the easy directions 👌🙂
Making it all work. Love it!
That is a great idea to put doors on the cube storage. They already have a shelf. That came out looking very nice.
Lovely ! Great job!
Love this, was looking for a video like this.
Wow! Amazing! You are the best! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 thank you for sharing! 😊
Love it! I might try this!!!!! 👍🏼
It really looks great!
Wow I love that you're very resourceful and creative it came out very good
Thanks for the tips
Good job! It looks great!
I just found your channel browsing through Pinterest & immediately subscribed when I heard “Canadian”! Thank you for sharing budget friendly DIY’s. I am looking forward to browsing your channel for more ideas 😃
Love this idea!
Love this!!!
Wow, I was debating on purchasing a Kallax. Seeing your video made me confident that it would be a good purchase, since it can be easily upgraded to a new style. Thanks for sharing!
Oh oh thank you for the idea😍
I just moved into a new home and have had to start from scratch (my bedroom mattress is on the floor as we speak…not hating though…thinking Japandi 😁.) Your ideas have lifted my spirits and have pulled my overwhelmed brain out of hiding! Keep creating! You are helping people!!!
LOVE IT!!! I usually don't sand and use primer too.
This is so helpful and I will be to do it! Thank you
well done!!! 👏
Great Hack! If you mod podge the burlap it will make it more structured like cane.
Thanks! You're talented!
This is great! I want one 😊
Same. I checked out cane and it just wasn't ringing my bells. I didn't like the little octogon-shaped weave, so I looked at burlap instead. Glad to run across your video.
W😍😍😍😍w!!!!!!
You did AN AMAZING JOB👍🏻
You did a beautiful job! I love it! I’ve would have added a splash of gold to the burlap.
Adding the feet was a brilliant idea!
Nice job!!
You did a great job 👏
OMG amazing transformation!...I had a similar experience trying to find cane in Toronto. I ended up going with Lavair's Woodworking & Canning Supplies, very good customer service and reasonably priced products.
I admire your ingenuity and drive. personally I prefer the before, but that's me. if it works for you, that's all that matters
Eu amei a sua ideia. Aqui no Brasil temos tantos móveis que são descartados e quando vejo os seus vídeos sei que todos podem ser aproveitados
Ok! I love this!! I have the 2 Tomas console thing!! So different measurements grr!
I loved it!
thank you! 😃
My weekend project sorted!
I do the same, I paint assembled pieces and in the majority of the time, it works surprisingly well 😅🙃💚
Plus the idea using burlap instead of cane 💞
Thank you ... I will be doing the same to my dark brown not same brand laminate shoe rack ... Thank you for sharing ..
Nice work. 👍
I dont like farmhouse either but i love western wooden interiors and mid century modern furniture, this was a very helpfull video since im going to try recreate a darker rattan cabinet.
I like your job 😊
First time watching..thumb up for you
Not Bad! I really like it 👍🙂
Jesus! I have lots of ideas to do around the house but I am simply not a manual person. Your ideas are simple, amazing and give me hope that I too can make things happen. Thank you!
I love it too!
How do to install door hinges like that? It's actually really nifty and I am a novice at diy but love the way the doors open and the burlap looks better I adore this
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 thank you!!
It’s beautiful
Darling, you're kinda rubbish at putting screws in. But you're a goddess at everything else. Your ideas are inspired. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Your talent shines through. You have a new and very happy subscriber. ❤
Great job and so real life realistic 🤍🤍
Great job. Very talented. I think I would have gone with 2 layers of the burlap and polyurithaned it to make it stiffer. That's just me though. Your piece is beautiful.
You did really well
This is a fantastic makeover - especially with the burlap as it makes it a lot more affordable. It looks stunning and as others have said, it’s very doable with minimal tools and supplies. Thanks from a new subscriber in the UK 🇬🇧 ❤️
Wow. Genius lady
Love!
That primer is the best for IKEA furniture!!
Amazing
Just came here to say .. faux cane brilliant! :P
Tysm I'm a kid who wants to be a architect when I'm older but I also wanna make furniture for the Houses I make so I can try to make this one day (with parental supervision) and probably put it in my room!
Great idea! I’m thinking of adding doors to a bookcase, but my one worry is finding the exact wood colour paint.
I’m gonna do this!!
I got all excited, thinking I'd make this, with the burlap, then i remembered i have a cat. And he has the claws of the world.
I love the idea of the doors opening from the bottom - but what was your original plan? for the 4 doors to all open separate?
Wonder if the burlap was starched or maybe spray varnished would it look good? Loved the fact that you had to come up with a fix. Great video thanks.
Darn....pontypants beat me this time.Great problem solving about the doors!!! 🙂
Smart!
