  • DIY IKEA IVAR Fluted Cabinet for Dining Room! How to Paint Raw Wood for Beginners! IKEA Hack 2022 👌
    Hey guys! In today’s video, I’m going to show you how I DIYed two IKEA IVAR cabinets to create a buffet for our dining room. I wanted a sideboard that fits perfectly in our space and design style, that’s also functional. I was very inspired by the fluted furniture trend and decided to customize this look for myself. I take you through the whole process, step by step, and I hope that it's helpful for anyone who's a beginner in building and flipping furniture pieces 😊
    I hope that you enjoyed this IKEA hack video and learned some tips and tricks that you can use in your next DIY project. I’m really happy with how this buffet cabinet has turned out and it honestly looks like an expensive piece of furniture from West Elm or Pottery Barn! Make sure to subscribe if you want to come along with us on our house adventures! 🏡

      Two suggestions, I think, might've made this better......
      1. If the same handles were smaller,
      2. If the feet were longer so they'd make it stand out taller

    This came out amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge! I'm going to attempt this. I have three questions though - did adding the dowels cause the cabinet to be front heavy? If so, did you have to secure the finished cabinet to the wall? What size dowels did you use?

    • @YasminKhani
      @YasminKhani  2 місяці тому

      Thank you, Caty 😊 I’m glad you found the video helpful and that you’re going to try this yourself!
      Yes, adding the dowels made the cabinet doors heavy however only if both doors were to be open at the same time. We did secure the cabinet to the wall but we were planning to do that anyway as we do with most furniture pieces for safety especially as we live in CA. The dowels I used were 3/8 x 3/4 x 96 inches. Hope this helps 🙌🏼

    • @YasminKhani
      @YasminKhani  18 днів тому

      So glad you found this video inspiring affy syeda 🙌🏼 I used L brackets and long screws to attach the cabinet to the wall directly into the studs to make sure it’s secure (similar to earthquake fastening kits for furniture that are used for safety).

  • @BarbaraFriedberg
    @BarbaraFriedberg Рік тому

    Did you drill through the dowels and mdf to install the handles? What type of drill did you use? Also, did you put polyeurethane coating on the front of the piece, or just on the top? Thanks. Beautiful job!

    • @YasminKhani
      @YasminKhani  Рік тому +1

      Yes I drilled through the dowels and the door itself to install the handles; I matched the screw size from the handle to the right drill bit for this. I used poly spray for the front because regular poly most likely would’ve lodged and clumped in between the dowels and that’s not a great look. I used regular poly for the top; I have both products linked in the description box.
      And thank you for watching Barbara, I’m so glad you like the outcome as much as I do 😊🙌🏼

    Hey I'm unab😢to find the type of moulding you used. Do you suggest anything? Also what length nails do you suggest for nail gun?

    • @YasminKhani
      @YasminKhani  10 місяців тому

      Hey affy syeda, I'm sorry you're having a hard time finding the mouldings for your project. I would suggest checking your local hardware stores as well as online (I'm seeing similar ones on Lowe's/Home Depot sites). You can also use different mouldings (instead of half round). Other options to achieve a similar look would be wooden dowels or pole wrap! I used 1inch nails for this project to make sure they weren't too long to poke from behind the cabinet door, but I suggest customizing this depending on the thickness of the mouldings you use and your cabinet. I hope this helps & thank you for watching 😊

    Everything 👌but the shiplap. A recycled piece of (untreated/foodsafe) wood, something salvaged...anything but the shiplap - which is unsupported in the middle and is going to absolutely sag over time. Also grooves in any kind of tabletop is a big nono (watch where dust/dirt/debris is going to settle and try to clean it)

    I like your imagination but you wasted money of this one. That is raw wood. So using that primer was over kill not to mention it's expensive. you did two coats of it which is even more over kill. it's worsened by the fact that you used black over white. One coat of cheap primer have been more than enough. There is not going to be anything peeking through black paint. Spray polycrilic is way more expensive than brushable poly. Just put it on heavy then move quickly. Afterwards just brush away the excess. I'm sure you used way more than one can of spray poly. Tell us how many cans you used. One can of paintable is more than enough for everything.
