It took me a while to get the timing and notation but guys I can finally nail 5:29 perfectly without any hesitation. I'm proud I'm able to play it almost as well as Matt

I mean he’s 29 and he’s only been on two animals as Leaders albums, so he’s got a lot more drumming left in him. Whether or not you consider him a great he has left a mark on modern drumming, and he’s got a lot more drumming to do before he’s done.

It's actually switching between 4/4 and 3/4 with a 4 over 3 polyrythm, that's it. "Easy", at least on the time signature lol

I love how Javier and Tosin can hold the beat while Matt modulates. Seems like typically it would be the drums that holds while guitar initiates the ending of a phrase.
This is track is definitely created to show drum solo of Matt
He was the star of the show when I saw them. It's almost ironic because it's a "Guitar band for Guitarists by Guitarists" and the 'slap bass' and 'drum machine' became the identity of the band. He was front and center stage under the spotlight the whole show. Literally watching wood fly off his sticks like a wood chipper from front row. I am a guitarist and a huge fan of tosin but Matt is the best musician in the band.

You can tell the double kick section at 3:00 is difficult because it's the only time he's not playing any ghost notes, but even that part is so clean I could eat off it
FJordn0TM or, what if he doesn't have any room for ghost notes considering he usually plays them in between bass hits, and there's like 5,000 hits in that section. lol
I can't even play that with the hands, and he does that with his feet and the hands.
It's strange seeing his left hand not filling in every single 16th note gap in the universe.
I mean it's by no means easy, but I think he's just choosing not to play ghost notes in that section to emphasize the bass drum pattern. Besides being a technical genius he's also very musical and plays to serve the song.
In this section ghost notes aren't necessary, if it were, he was learning and playing them without any problem
Finally someone with a goofier drum face than my own.
Of course, HIS playing actually backs it up.

Todd Daniel Marco is one of those dudes that's been in the top five to ten drummers for over a decade. Dude is so talented. And both write crazy intricate parts.
I feel like he's one of the few that could really play ANYTHING on the drums. Like i know he can play everything Matt plays. But i dont think matt can play some of the stuff marco does ie interdepedence.
Todd Daniel marco is also up to par with Matt, both play insane stuff naturally and with ease.

What amazes me is that underneath the complexity that seems to hit your ears, seeing it played shows the musicality driving quite simple concepts that stitch together to contrast the guitar ... which gives the appearance of more complexity than there is. Genius.

Interesting. Around 4:47 he swings past the left of the snare. I wonder if it's a syncopation thing to keep his timing. I've seen some drummers purposely hit their leg instead of the snare on weird parts where they feel like they MUST connect with something with that hand on that specific beat.
