Two things: 1. Every time I watch you play I learn something new. 2. The bell of your ride is absolutely perfect. And one more thing, love the performance and the song.
Me too❤
@@nathantavares6488 yip the ride meinl did a good job like it to
most inspiring player in the world to me currently. his metric modulation work always kicks in my practice senses.
The Crash/Ride is really really good. But the bell is very weak. I went to my drum shop to try it.
Probably why in this video the ride is mic up really close to the bell.
Playing slow is the ultimate test of one's timekeeping
How you were not included in the Modern Drummer Reader Poll this year is beyond me!
You are an AMAZING drummer/musician!
@@Purplepenpeople Legit all it is :)
I honestly haven't read a Modern Drummer magazine since maybe 2004 or something. I used to really like that magazine back when I first started taking drums seriously, is that magazine any good these days?
Pretty sure he already won, maybe they want others to have a chance? lol
It's possible that no one under 60 reads that anymore.
He's just way behond everyone else there's no need to mention him in these poor fashion magasines.
a true 'master-student' of rhythm and the drumset. he's never stops learning. one of the most humble musicians out there
Currently the best drummer alive. Don’t even bother arguing me.
I couldn’t agree more! Although I have so many favorite drummers (Tomas Haake, Danny Carey and Blake Richardson to name a few). 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
He’s the ultimate all-rounder. The most complete player I’ve ever seen
Him and Larnell
Nobody is arguing
@@jpric155 I said don’t.
I truly think that you are the pinnacle of drumming. Of course better drummers will come along, but right now Matt Garstka is the greatest of all time.
he really is right up there. i compared him to donati on another site and received some flack for it. however - i stand by my objective opinion. :)
@@metroknowmhe is easily on his level if not better, so you are absolutely right!
No "better" drummers will come. Unique drummers, yes
@@lordamoghxd There’s always a bigger fish. 😉
@@MillsJonEric bigger in different ways. Yes
I know for a fact that there are more than 77.2k drummers on this planet. There are so many missing out on BY FAR the best inspiration you could ever find
Everytime he uploads a new video he has been practicing like crazy. Musician by heart. Discipline level 200%
This is the level of production it takes to pick up Matt's drumming, anything less and you miss the real fun.
The kit sounds better than perfect. The playing is so unpredictable and it takes you on a journey. Fukin sicK
The modulation and displacement here are absolutely insane. The whole reason I ever even thought about learning that kind of stuff was way back in like 2014 when you posted that displacement video at a church, I think it was. Anyways, completely changed the way I approached the kit after I saw that. And, of course how you and your band have created something so unique and original.. In my opinion, you guys atop the mountain in the world of progressive music.
I love these drum solos where things feel like an interpretive dance so to speak.
Good freaking heck I can never express how impressive your playing always is. The control is just astronomical.
I can not get over how clean and fast your movement is at 2:09 with that fill. I literally had to rewatch it 5 times 😲
It inspires me to play and intimidates me to give up at the Same time
He knows every millisecond of the song, brilliant.
Absolutely perfect control, great ghost notes and consistency in according to time and technique!!Amazing sound too!!!Trully progressive drumming!!!❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
So good. Tasteful. Complex. Rich. Everything.
At 3:28, I love how he is thinking: what should I eat this evening?
I genuinely believe Matt G will stumble upon time travel at some point.
The transitions between quintuplets and septuplets are so clean! 🤯 That metric modulation sounds a lot like going off of the dotted 8ths from 4/4 because 7 divided by 5 and 3 divided by 2 are very close to equalling the same, basically the tempo being multiplied by 1.4 instead of 1.5 when going to the septuplets, and divided by that when going back to the quintuplets (which is a very small difference like I sad earlier). The fact you can play that so accurately is mind-boggling!
This shit is so dreamy. Wish it would go on forever.
Love the piece at the beginning with the 795 trinity loop
I remember that back when you posted first Monomyth related tracks I had to listen to them a lot to learn to appreciate how they sound. This however gets to me like a heated up knife into a block of butter 😅 I really enjoy these sounds.
See you in Cleveland can’t wait.
Thanks for turning me into Car Bomb
so damn tasteful per usual Matt
Essentially a song/shed played at the same time most of the time which is fuckin dope! I love it!
It inspires me to play in practice but at the same time intimidates me so much that I want to give up
Absolutely insane
OHH seeing that PASIC loop evolve into this is just WOW!
Sweet sweet stuff man, I can’t even wrap my head around most of it! That opening groove reminds me of Thoughts and Prayers, I love it
Absoultyl fantastic drumming, gooves, and the whole package Matt. Thank you for uploading. The sound mix is crisp and clean. Each drum and cymbal sounds individual.
Hoooooo boy, that flow between 5 and 7 is just *chef’s kiss*. Time to start working that insane shit out…
Towards the ending, my brain thought this sounded like a neat crossover with Marco Minnemann's Broken Orange album! I think it's the middle section on Rim that caught my ear specifically 🍊
Absolute control of dynamics 🤌🏼
No way to say it without sounding generic, but you're genuinely an inspiration. Your hard work and dedication is something I really envy
Reminds me of the great album you did with Louis de Mieulle, one of my favorite album ever.
Excellent job my friend 👍🎼🥁🎼👍!!!
So many words to describe this piece, but I'll just say it's wonderful.
By Odin's beard!!!!👀👀👀 this is beautiful & artistic & just wow!! Man is phenomenal!!🖤👊🤘🥁
The flow is subliminally sublime to my ears and mind.
You are such an amazing drummer
Never stop putting out these videos, man! Unreal.
Incredible 🤘
Bonkers, MadMatt strikes again! Love the places you are taking your thing.
so great matt
Simply the best
another awe inspiring performance!
Awesome dude.
This is the first time I've seen Matt use the new crash on the right! Also the first video I've seen where he uses his cowbell!!!
quel talent ! magnifique Matt !
what a beast. ghost notes immaculate
Master!! Sounds Awesome , universal blessing 🤘🏼🖤☄️🥁
Inspiring playing as always, sir. You are the biggest motivator for me to continue practicing the drums!
Blew my mind in 20 seconds.
Solid!! ya!! ;-)!! Nice Touch!! Cheers!
Matt your awesome .. keep at it
not only the technique but the good taste!
love the fill from the 3min mark
Meditative drumming👌
just ordered your ride a few moments ago
thank you for being my inspiration
wow dude, that was very very impressive. mastering time - the title sure as hell fits the content. well done man
I hear some of those bits from the Space Loops snuck in there. Love those tracks. Killing it, man
That was beautiful. Idk what else to say.
Matt is the GOAT
The master of time
What a great song -totally felt what you said, and those exclamations around 3:15!! Stupendous!!! 🔥🙌🚀
Great mix
Great sound engee
nice expansion on the 795 loop
are you releasing an EP of this music?
One could call it a reincarnation of the 795 Trinity loop!
Yea he’s good. I mean really good!! The way he plays with the tempo😮
Your would make Dave Weckl proud. Great touch, bro!
2:56 ...I mean damn!
My smile when I heard the Trinity 795 motif...
I thought my 22" vintage pure ride was the best ride I've ever played, but the equilibrium ride is *chefs kiss*
Damn he looks fresh on his drums. Also nice groove and off - beats
its so taste
The meter seems to move back and forth from odd to even to odd count meters. From what I can tell, from 5 to 6, back to 5 again etc etc. Sound is impeccable, and it’s scary to see Matt move so smoothly across meters.
The amount of time behind the kit must be astonishing!! Gonna take more then a few hours in a day to achieve this lol
so tasteful that i can smell that smoothie
The best
0:50 Wait! It's this melody from the loop! Yeeeeessssssss
Besides the highly technical content, I really dig the tune and solo, they don't sound "mathematical" to me, but rather quite pleasant. It would be nice seeing Matt playing with someone like Tigran Hamasyan someday...
has a trinity vibe
Drum hero worthy.
Such an inspiration Matt! Curious if you've ever heard of Lille Gruber? You 2 and Pridgen are my all time favorites. Cheers.

This one makes my head hurt. Time signature? You betchya.
That good old 5/8 groove.
His muscular forearm 💪🏾🔥
1:37 HE'S HUMAN! THERE'S HOPE FOR US!
Hmmm that wasn't a mistake
I really dont know what mistake you saw man
@@S_Pat90 watch in slow mo it's hard to see
😮 wow 🎼🤯🥁😳
Anybody else catch his right-hand mess up on the roll through the second tom at 1m37s?
And yet you honestly STILL don’t actually hear it because A) he’s so smooth in his delivery and playing, and B) he just continues on through it like it simply never happened.
Absolutely INSANE. I honestly can’t disagree with @MillsJonEric, tbh. I’m not sure Mr. Garstka isn’t the best drummer on the planet right now. Such creativity, such flow, such complexity, dynamics, etc, etc…
this sick backing track is also part of the space jam loops. what we have here is a more fleshed out version of the track. Is it available on your site as well - matthew?
This is not mere "Prog-Metal" drumming. This is way more. Matt is far and above being pidgeon-holed like that.
I have a huge question, besides the complex and, of course insane drumming, how did take yourself like, like, out of the frame, specifically when the camera is in front. I mean, I know just a bit about making videos but this just looks different. Those takes were really really good
I'm happy you left out the mistake at 1:37. It makes you feel at least human compared to us 😂
GOAT
This guy is the indie el estapario. Fused with a bit of JD Beck. I like it.
What would be drumming without him nowadays
this is awesome but why the bass panned hard left in beginning
Scientist ❤
