I recall a day in 1993/4. Finished watching Dave Weckl and Dennis Chambers on my vcr, about to put my Steve Vai or Joe Satriani cassette into my Walkman. Thinking to myself "I'm lucky to be alive at this time of the pinnacle of musical instrumentalists. I wonder if somewhere right now there's some infant that I'll be listening to in 30 years time that could possibly make me rethink how I feel today..."
I was listening to king crimson and a TON of jazz fusion in the mid 90's and this is to me just an updated, higher gain version of that genre.... in fact, back then I think I was hoping someone would do it exactly this way...
I was raised throughout the years on king crimson, yes, vai, satriani, etc.... And found bands like this, with the technical-progressive metal, with a perfect mixture of timing and chords that pull at the strings of your soul. A true artistic talent that goes way beyond the general person. Therefore, I would sure hope that the world in fact burns if anything that transcended from this music were to die out. It's almost a spiritual experience.
Ironic, 1993/4 is also the time signature!!!!
jazz no lyrics its good but
I tell myself and people all the time we are witnessing musicians that we will be talking about, as you described, for years and years to come
Definitely miss the SCREAMING applause that drum solo gets every show
But on the flip side, I love hearing the pick scrapes and tiny little flaws that you can't usually hear from live audio.
I'M SCREAMING
Definitely not missing that.
I love that these guys produce some of the craziest, heaviest guitar riffs in metal and half of it is played fingerstyle... so innovative
The bassist and keys/samples are so underrated in this performance. A round of applause to the underpaid laptop.
Careful now , a good bit of what you might think are keys most likely are not , relax man , just sayin ....
No notices the bass player until they are missing
Depends on the bassist
You're thinking about a pop concert.
What bassist? Both of them are the bassist. Look how low those tones are.
Javier's guitar is the most beautiful finish , like the bottom of the ocean, on fire ! sick af !
It’s kinda reminiscent of Al Di Meola’s prs finish. Pretty cool.
@@jaredgreece8387 AAL is one of those ones I can't put my finger on . Love the prog element , kinda like "°Dream Theater " but next level ...
@@mitch5699 is your space bar broken? only need one space between words dude
@@grisswald17 no no dude, it's me that's broken, what can ya do , right? ..
You see there is Tosin and Javier. Leaders.
Then you have the animal.
Love this.
Djent YT comments are always the best
But, the animal is leading them.
@@charleschi843 touché, they have an Animal as a Leader.
I would legit pay a fortune to have them play at my wedding... if I ever do lol
Yeah, The Macarena in 7/13 time. I'd pay to see that hahahaha
@@mk1st ah and the obligatory Mr brightside in 17/24 ofc ofc
I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet.
But your kids are gonna love it!
Garstka looking like a Bond villain
Absolutely mind blowing track and performance. I've been listening to this track for years now but honestly it keeps on giving, such is the effect of quality song writing.
What I love is it seems like a Javier showcase with Tosin sticking to bassy stuff, then Tosin starts soloing and Javier is slapping his lowest strings, then Gartska gets his spotlight. It's such a phenomal collaboration of musicians.
@@whatdothlife4660 It's great how all of them are contributing more with each album, and thus having moments to showcase their ideas and skills live!
I can't stop listening to them , like an
" ism " their literaliy all I dig on anymore.
Spoiled I guess.
will it go away ?
It's been years now , it's only getting better , I mean worse... ahhh
the power of djent !
but not just any will do , it's gotta be AAL....
Sometimes I wonder where do they park their spaceship...
Rings of saturn make me feel the same way :)

Cant get enough of these guys , they've ruined everything else musically, I only want to listen to them ..
@@mitch5699 Yeah, they contribute a lot for progressive music genre.
@@yigitalpdikmen331 yeah I'm finding out there's so much more to guitar work than I thought I'd found in 41 years of playing rock and metal guitar, these guys shine a whole new light on the thing , like Ed did when VH one came out.. like that , of course it's all subjective to the listener , 🤟rock
What a journey, thank you sir..
The evolution of Matt's solo from when they released the album to now is awesome. And the outro for this performance is monstrous. Overall, straight beast mode and super clean from all three.
Probably the finest 3 musicians in modern prog-rock today....with a polite nod to Danney Carrey. Guys a beast.
00:49, the Javier's look, like "Hey, Matt, that was close lel"
The mark of a pro, it's not about not making mistakes, but how to get out of them gracefully ;) the show must go on
@@GabrielGuevaraDrums hahaha yes! what a great save
so since even these MONSTERS mess up, does that make it okay for the rest of us musicians to mess up? or only them since the music they play is actually hard and not tabbed music like the rest of us?
Its like that in all the shows I've seen them. If they mess up they look at each other and smile but never stop playing. It's awesome to watch such masters have fun.
He didn’t mess up & I don’t think that’s what that look was
Dang, so good. Especially the hard part.
Dude Matt is on another level hes savage dude
The thumping is absolutely amazing!!!!
THUMP!
These drums are just mind bending.
looks like matt's been hitting the gym
ikr insane glow up from gnomey gamer to jason momoa
They all have. Javier deadlifts like a beast now. But yeah Matt be lookin mint.
Facs
indeed he is
MAN LOOKIN LIKA TANK RIGHT NOW
One more play through and I think I’ll have all of the lyrics memorized.
I remember I googled the title the first time I heard this song lol
I get a slower Inner Assasin vibe meets physical education.
Love Javier's touch on here!
Garstka added some cymbals to his drumkit :0
If you don't appreciate this you straight up have no idea what talent is!! Amazing 👏 🤘
Great performance, Matt killed it and the other guys weren’t too shabby either ! 👍🤘
0:32 Those ghost notes sound awesome!
Gartska is a walking Mattronome! That little chaotic drum solo gets me every time.
3 masters of their craft. BRAVO!!!!
Ya. I just watched these guys perform this last night in Orlando. Unreal. Another dimension.
I really like this little solo at 3:55
Everyone killed as per usual but, drum homie killed it with that solo.
How did two people have the courage to das dislike on this video?
Animals as Leaders is sansational !!
@2:20
Tosin's signiture djent sound is his ability to produce the sound of an angry grunt boar goddamn that sound is thick
it's that weird double thumb shit he does, with the upstroke on the open right hand thumb. super unique to the genre.
@@kat-rau. i know that victor wooten does it too so it's cool how Tosin brought it to metal and made it his own
DAMN SON ! ! ! animal on drums..
animals as leaders doesnt blast. matt gartska can drum his ass off, but none of their music contains blast beats.
Love it! My favorite song off that album.
I want this concert on Blu ray. Amazing performances and visuals!
That foot work are sick , absolutely on fire🔥🔥
Best band in the World
Is anyone else mind blown by 2:24-3:01 ?
Chunkyyy
This song reminds to Physical Education, of course is different, but it contains the sense of Javier on it.
Watching them live really reveals how much Javier and Tosin play Hot Potato with the Basslines vs lead parts. They are such a team.
3:26 reminds me of a Dimebag lick from the solo to Walk
For sure!!
Ahh I suddenly thought of Dimebag when I heard that lick...just shows how much of a unique style & sound he had!
Fine music soo interesting to listen to !!
Bro, Garstka is fucking insane! The level of energy and the way he cradles Javier and Tosin's playing is just wow.
At :4:40 when Javier gives that "yo this nigga matt is freakin out on the drums" look lol
This guys are amazing musicians!
2:37 the look of concentration on javiers face
I guess that thumb thumping technique must be tricky! I'm only a beginner on guitar (long term on drums) so even techniques like a pull off I find hard to do cleanly, uncommon technique like that thumping must take a lot of co-ordination to get in the broken up 16th notes.
i was in the midst of getting my eardrums brutally attacked by the most brutal bass hits during the breakdown when i started thinking to myself "what the fuck even is this guys??"
Any normal musician: What time signature is this song in?
AAL: All of them
Ya know, there's probably some guy in Central Asia that can sing to this perfectly.
Biggest musical wow effect, since I saw King Crimson. Absolutly amazing stuff
2:25 "A transition to melt your face off to"
that intro deserves to be in CP2077
The bass sound is great. Almost magical.
Laptop did a great job with its bass tone
since when did mac play the drums
I will always prefer fat Mac over buff Mac
It was after he left The Pecan Sandies for Chemical Toilet….
Such good live tones and video mixing for that video though. They had such a good live show with plintervals which I saw too. \m/
Matt’s DEFINITELY been on the BEEF lately
they are like mafia bosses from different movies
Alv todos son maestros , están bien perros pero el matt la neta si se pasa de lanza 👏👏👏
Realmente estimulante. Tiene profundidad. Buen batería
Can we all just take a sec to appreciate that fucking thing of beauty Javier is playing. Wow.
Having played the guitar for over 30 years I can totally appreciate Tosin and javier, Matt is such a goddamn beast!
I can’t help but wonder about Navene koperweis??
what about Navene? He’s with Entheos, pretty sure he’s doing session work for the next JFAC album.
09/12 Chile 😍
Music is awesome and the led wall is bananas!!! I would love to make some visuals for these guys \m/
3:50
OH MY GOD :D
Devastatingly amazing
Brutal
FLAWLESS VICTORY
Jeez! :) Can't watch this video often enough :)
I like the part at 0:00 - 4:48
Holy fuuuuuck. Blown away
For every beard hair that Matt grows, his snare gets 1% drier
When he does the snare hits in the beginning to start off, I was expecting to some crack the that snare. I didn't like it untill he made that shit work.
The fluidity in his drumming is obscene
Matt never looked this good!
Yes!!
Living metronomes pog.
A King Crimson nice echo
Thumbs up for that drum solo....yo.
Guitars go brrrrrrrttttttt
These guys prove that most great guitarists are actually frustrated drummers.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hola,que bien;él rock+fusión☆🎸☆👍😎
Starring with 2:44
Cool! Makes me want to go back and listen to “The Roots of Coincidence” by Pat Metheny.
C'MON
AAL is definitely the top of "musicians music" that casual listeners will never understand. Not saying they can't enjoy it. But holy fuck the amount of mastery displayed by all three is absolutely astounding and it deserves proper appreciation. Sorry if I sound elitist. They just get me randy baby.
@Mike Schwab Agreeably, this isn't one of the songs that best translates live and by far not one my favorite tracks. But they're inarguably one of the most talented groups. Even if you don't vibe with everything, you can't deny the technical skill. It's like Brittany Spears. Sure I think she's garbage, but popular opinion says there's something that people vibe with and I'd be a close minded person to ignore that.
@Mike Schwab It really does do all of those things, it's just for a certain type of people. The rhythms and melodies are both really good. I guess some people would have to adjust pretty hard to get into this music. The grooves are really good, because they are fun to listen to and make sense to me, but for non-casual listeners that don't have an advanced ear in odd-time signature stuff it's hard to listen to or get in the groove. Music is both subjective and full of reasoning, you can't say that it doesn't have good riffs or good beats.
@Mike Schwab don't hear the beats and riffs? How? The whole song is based off of a repeating pattern that isn't hard to get into, and there's even a 4/4 spin on that pattern. The pattern isn't that complex either, and it's pretty rhythmically genius too. What music do you listen to?
@Mike Schwab That makes sense. Its hard for people from outside of prog stuff to get into this. I liked prog and metal and found the answer to both, but if you don't like one of those things its really hard to get into it.
This is like.. Just stuntin on everybody.
They remind me of Return to Forever a little bit
Who in the fk would ever give it a thumbs down?????
Inner Brain Dance Assasins. 😁🤘🏾
This reminds me Jeff Beck's album 40 years back.
Crazy talented musicians. Have nothing but the utmost respect for everyone in this band. But I’d rather listen to almost anything else.
diosesssss!
Unreal
🕊
i gotta have three brains inside my head ...
I was blind but now I hear.
fire
omg opeth and petrucci DT Influences
Godammit this sounds nasty. Garstka is a beast
This song reminds me of Martyr
