Finally! I’ve been following this build for what feels like over a year, glade to see it running, can’t wait to see more videos, you have a lot of patience. Awesome build
Your the best! For some future advice not that I’m and expert, but copper gasket spray is amazing for coating head gaskets give it a few coats on each side she’ll never leak on you in the future!
Just FYI, Dawn dish soap... Or really any dish soap, will clean oil out of the cooling system just fine. I've had to do it a few times when oil coolers failed. And well done, sounds perfect. Finally time to start to enjoy it!
Awesome built. I have a original 1991 Toyota pickup 4wd sr5 v6 with 122k miles. When it dies on me, I will hit you up to see if you want to pick it to rebuild it. Money is tight so can’t do any rebuild to its original condition.
On one of the Natural Gas compressor stations I constructed the Compressor skid packager piped the oil into the coolant. I'd never suggest this but, Dude, the mechanics poured GALLONS of straight laundry detergent in the coolant system. Then flushed it. They had separate pumps to flush the system. As it was happening I was pretty skeptical. I guess if you flush it enough it doesn't matter. One thing pipelining has taught me is the solution to pollution is dilution. Nice project.
awesome job im just as happy as you're that its done, you deserve it. next find a 11mm pump its night and day and i got a duralift 9-11 psi lift pump it helps alot for fuel at higher rpm and reduces stress on the pump
Hey, I 😘 ve the TDI swap idea! Wondering about the same thing in my Rav 4 potentially??? Would love to know more about what transmission you used and adapters and trouble associated with that. Great build!
The good news is that my Dad's 03 TDI Jetta passed its safety inspection for another year on the road. The bad news is I have to wait a little longer for a free TDI :)
That is awesome. I've been watching your build for quite some time now. And thank you for posting all ur part numbers. I just completed my swap and test drove it for the first time today. I went with a mechanical injection pump. Do you happen to know what the timing should be at on the mechanical injection pump? I'll be using a bosh ve dial indicator. It sounds like its lacking power
Magnetic drain plug , if there anything floating it sticks to the magnet or some of us old dudes just job weld a big speaker mag to the bottom of the pan , looks like crap but could save an engine, 🤔
Austin - sorry I can't remember but what pistons did you end up using? If you did bore it bigger, did you go with a bhw head gasket to account for the larger diameter hole? (Overbore piston won't clear an alh gasket)
I missed the early vids on the Tacoma build but have been enjoying the last half for sure! For the tdi swap what electronics from the Tacoma were you able to keep and what did you have to use from Volkswagen?
Congratulations man. I’m very proud of all ya succes until now. The way you fix your error is admirable. Allot of respect. U are well rewarded with this achievement 🥳 Can you give me some advice I have Toyota harrier build in the year 2000 with almost 200 000km on it. Which engine oil should I use, 10w30 or 10w40? Should I use full synthetic? Normally it uses 10w30, should I keep using that?
Second time a charm well it’s kind of third times a charm lol I know it’s a VW motor and all that and I’m willing to look past that to say good job bro, if I was not thousands of kilometres away I’ll like to show ya how an Aussie Toyota turbo diesel rolls!
On modern engines and materials running in is mostly a myth. There is only one way to seat the rings and that is pressure. Give it some real good right foot and she will thank you for it. Not once have we run in any racing engines, and never was an issue with it. Two identical engine dynoed back some twenty years ago, one babied on running in and other was a dealer test drive show room unit that customers ran like they stolen it. Well the abused made 19hp more and had less blow by.

That is so sweet!! The engine is looking sweet and the engine bay is so much better and it is Turing out amazing!!
I've learned so much about diesel engines since I started watching your videos. Keep the good content coming!
Ross Westmore awesome good to hear!!
Awesome job man ! You're doing a great job on the truck, and I'm enjoying watching the progress.

Really good info here, I'm researching this swap for a Jeep XJ.
That Engine is beautiful so glad to see it done!!

Looks sick way better when you build it your way you got skills just like your brothers
Well done Austin everyone makes mistakes so easy done with that head gasket u have been so methodical with the build very impressed ✅✅✅🇦🇺
Mick Freeburn thanks!!
Great job. Glad to see and hear it running so well. Big project but completely worth it.
Just FYI, Dawn dish soap... Or really any dish soap, will clean oil out of the cooling system just fine. I've had to do it a few times when oil coolers failed. And well done, sounds perfect. Finally time to start to enjoy it!
This is FA-KING AWESOME! I'm happy for you BRO! I ordered more cleaning wheels from Cameron last week. Looking forward to seeing you behind the wheel.

Good to see it firing quickly. I always was worried on how it took so long to start before
awesome job im just as happy as you're that its done, you deserve it. next find a 11mm pump its night and day and i got a duralift 9-11 psi lift pump it helps alot for fuel at higher rpm and reduces stress on the pump

Scott Blake thank you!
Your welcome brother
congrats my man, you have done well.
Glad to see this is coming along so well
Awesome to see it up and running again ☮️
At least you caught it before you started it, oil seems a lot harder to clean up when it has bearing flakes in it! (Like in my case...😓 )
Iam from spain i had to came to you to see so great job and make me think seriousky to go for my pd seat fr 150cv ❤
Yeah nice, im at the bit where you lift the head on with 2 fingers. I just took the head off my 5l n the damn thang weighs 38kgs!
Great work! I own 1.9 tdi ahl also and it’s nice to learn and see how it’s built up👍🏻
Hey, I 😘 ve the TDI swap idea! Wondering about the same thing in my Rav 4 potentially??? Would love to know more about what transmission you used and adapters and trouble associated with that. Great build!
Man...... I admire your patience. I would be so pissed. Great job.
Great job
Let’s see it all reassembled
Can't wait to see this on the trails
The good news is that my Dad's 03 TDI Jetta passed its safety inspection for another year on the road. The bad news is I have to wait a little longer for a free TDI :)
A mechanic like this I need if he solves the problem, not like the ones I know who just steal my money
you did a very good job, but did you check if that engine is allowed to stand upright like you did?🤔
Loved it great video austin!!

Adam clay I don’t know about that! I’ve never messed with a mechanical pump!
Sounds and looks sweet, nice job.
How much oil does it take?
Outstanding work!!
Muy buen trabajo en tu Toyota felicitaciones saludos desde Santiago de Chile
What about adjusting fuel quantity?
What type of engine is this? Would you recommend swapping it on my 1990 Toyota pick 4wd SRR?
i was wondering of the transmission .did you fab your own plate? how did you mount ?
Magnetic drain plug , if there anything floating it sticks to the magnet or some of us old dudes just job weld a big speaker mag to the bottom of the pan , looks like crap but could save an engine, 🤔
Would you do the swap again? I have a 3rd gen 4runner that is going to get swapped next year. Can't decide on this or just replacing with another 3.4.
Yes in fact check out my channel. I am swapping a 4 door tacoma now!
Hey man. I have a 1994 3.0l 4x4 auto pickup. How much of a pain would this swap be?
Thats an awesome truck man 💪
Michael Simpson thank you!
Do you have a video..how wire up TDI to 2gen Toyota?
No but it is extremely similar!
Austin - sorry I can't remember but what pistons did you end up using? If you did bore it bigger, did you go with a bhw head gasket to account for the larger diameter hole? (Overbore piston won't clear an alh gasket)
ASV pistons! They are 80MM, stock alh gaskets has 81.80mm openings!
I missed the early vids on the Tacoma build but have been enjoying the last half for sure! For the tdi swap what electronics from the Tacoma were you able to keep and what did you have to use from Volkswagen?
bryce boland use the vw harness ecu and throttle pedal! And a few other small itemss
Do you think this could be done to a 79 Chevy luv
lucky you caught it.

Can you give me some advice
I have Toyota harrier build in the year 2000 with almost 200 000km on it.
Which engine oil should I use, 10w30 or 10w40? Should I use full synthetic?
Normally it uses 10w30, should I keep using that?
Arvind Paragsingh I would just use the recommended oil!! Synthetic is good
Austin Niemela thanx man. Imma use 10w30 synthetic. That one is the recommended oil. I don’t have to use full synthetic right?
ISO manual transition/// for a 06 jetta tdi //
Vilen dank fur gut video!
Forbidden glitter ! 😂
Sounds amazing!!!
Awesome, congrats 🍻
Ur a stud man, amazing job
I looked thru the google build sheet, which engine mounts did you use?
A D I used a set from chevy trailblazer and built the brackets
Austin Niemela I started looking at hydraulic mounts, I’ll have to look closer once I get mine in the engine bay
A D yes for a diesel they are much nicer!!
Well done man 👍
Second time a charm well it’s kind of third times a charm lol
I know it’s a VW motor and all that and I’m willing to look past that to say good job bro, if I was not thousands of kilometres away I’ll like to show ya how an Aussie Toyota turbo diesel rolls!
What mpg numbers do you expect on this engine ?
jeep lover expecting 25mpg pushing 35’s but we will see!
Enjoy your channel.
take your other radiator to a radiator shop ,they will get it clean. that way you will have a back up.
What kind of Horsepower and Torque estimate on this truck?
Roughly 200hp and 360tq
Awesome. Is it possible to get around 250hp on that engine? I have a s/c tacoma but a small diesel like this has me intrigued
@@wrmathis2 yeah you can much easier with a newer tdi!!
Nice. Which models of TDI? I’ve heard the BEW? Is a good one.
@@wrmathis2 bhw is a great motor!
Hi! I’m interested to buy this truck if possible. Thank you.
