2017 Cadillac CTS-V - Redline: Review

  • Using the same supercharged 6.2L LT4 monster from the Corvette ZO6, Cadillac brings an assault rifle to the super sedan horsepower war typically dominated by German offerings. If you're bent on not buying something European, this all American 2017 CTS-V fits the bill quite nicely.

    I sold cars for a year at a caddy dealership. The CTS-V is a monster. Incredibly fast. Luxurious. I sold 2 in my time at the dealership, both metalflake black over black. They suck gas and tires are only good for about 10,000 miles, but the performance value is excellent. I've flirted with getting one, but honestly at my age, I probably would wreck it.

      I will need for GM and Dodge to make some of their sedans have performance versions because I have a Malibu and I love it but I would like to see the SS, comeback in cars like the impala or the Cruze which was the cobalt SS, or the Malibu because those were bad ass just like this Cadillac.

    Your reactions to this 2017 Cadillac CTS-V are just off the hook. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE your reactions to this car. I in fact purchased the 2017 Cadillac CTS-V in Sept. 2016. A regional Cadillac Sales Manager told us that my car was the VERY 1st and ONLY Caddy to hit the ground (on the ENTIRE US east coast) in 2016. I live in the MD/DC/VA area. Our car came with an extraordinary story with the help of the actual President of Cadillac, Johan de Nysschen putting a rush on the build of my car. Anyway, when I watch your review, I have it on a LOOP, seriously. Thanks for your review on my super fun car.

    I picked up my new 2017 CTS-V on 8DEC16. It looks exactly like the one he reviewed. I came out of an Audi S-8 and a CSL550 and neither can hold a candle to this. It's not only easy to drive quietly (my wife drives it often), but it's fantastic when pushed. The most fun is how the valets (I live in Palm Beach) around town just go nuts when you pull up. I prefer it to my 2013 911 Carrera.

      +1 It's also why I bought my ATS-V, though I wish I had gone with the CTS-V instead. The supercharger whine mixed with the V8 growl (and Sofyan's hilarious reactions to them) are mainly why I keeping coming back to watch this video. Sound-wise, this and the new CT5-V Blackwing are on a completely different level that only the LFA and Carrera GT's V10's could top.

    God bless 'Merica. The sound of that v8 is so beast and without question American. This is a car that will stroll across the Barrett Jackson stage 50 years from now and the hammer will drop for over $1mm. The people of the future won't believe that we were once legally allowed to drive around in a 600hp supercharged machine like this. Yes - Tesla model S is faster and will probably continue to get even faster BUT I would much rather have this car - so much swagger and unapologetically bold. Well done.

    I test drove it a few days ago. Awesome supercharge no lag acceleration. It has a cool rearview mirror that also projects an image from the rear of the car to give a wider angle picture so there's no more blind spot. It also has cool auto parallel parking.

    Great review. I had first test drove the ATS-V but after driving the CTS-V, it is the one I want! Thanks for not trashing the CUE system. It's been interesting to hear other reviewers complain about CUE being touch screen, when, everything involving electronics is touch screen! IPhone-Touch Screen, Android phone-Touch Screen! IPads-Touch Screen! Tablets-Touch Screen! So what is the big deal? The answer, The foreign auto industry know that Cadillac has hit a home run with the current ATS-V and CTS-V! They kick German autos in the butt! I haven't seen anyone do a comparison with a 2016 or 2017 CTS-V against a BMW M5. I wonder why? Now of course the talk is about the coming 2018 BMW M5! And that's my point! The ATS-V & CTS-V sent them to the drawing board! Thanks

    This is my dream car, I currently work for a Chevy dealership, but I like the idea of a 4 door sports sedan for it's practical use and performance rolled into one and the SS Sedan is nice for 50k, but they have stopped production on it. Corvettes z06s and the Camaro ZL1 is nice for the same power, but I like that I can have a luxury 4 door sports sedan and a one badass mofo all in one car. Now if only I could afford such a BEAUTIFUL BEAST that is a whole different story.

    Love the CTS-V...this is probably the best American performance engine being produced right now, even tho it's an old ass design. It holds up. That said, they never should've dropped the manual tho. I'd choose the ATS-V instead for the 6 speed. Plus that TT V6 is nothing to sneeze at. My only other complaint about this car is that there are too many unnecessary gimmicks, like all the motorized stuff. It just ads cost and possible failure points.

    I can always find something bad to say about GM cars, but this is one I'd buy myself. Definitely above and beyond the competition for a great price. And btw Sofyan, you'd get some more subscribers if you tried some new camera angles or upgraded your camera equipment. While all the other car channels have progressed, yours seems to have stayed exactly the same. Not saying change your formula, but work on your camera work and editing.

      Vikk 54 We actually did upgrade of camera equipment this month and you should start seeing a change in the video quality in our upcoming reviews. A lot of the B-Roll footage you're seeing in this video is our new Sony A7IIR with our new zoom lens attached. We also just upgraded our action cam on the interior to the Sony XDR-3000V. 2:45. I bought a 2018 slightly used in 2022. Who ever owned it before me bought everything you could check off on this car. After owning it for about 2 months I will say that I have never gotten so many compliments on any other car I've owned. Everywhere I go people are looking at it. I'm so happy I got it. That aside. One thing I did was take off that stupid plastic over the engine. Got an aftermarket air filter, oil catch can. And yes I'm getting a Whipple 2.9 supercharger to replace that 1.7 weak charger on the engine. I think 1,000 HP is just to much to keep under the hood. 800 HP is all you really need to keep up with post any other car out there.

      Sad but true. BMW isn't quite as sporty as they used to be, and Merc... unreliable doesn't begin to cover it. Audi is the only one that seems to be on top of things. I suspect the transmission on this new V may be less than stellar but you gotta love modern GM small blocks. Powerful, reliable, and easy/cheap to work on. I'll still have to drive one before I can say anything about the suspension. Previous V's weren't great in that regard.

    I dont kno why these new models are never that appealing as of 1970's. They were so cool and classy, Neither Lincoln nor Cadillac has been able to maintain that class. They were so long and thin and classy. Mighty 79's.

    here come all the Cadillac haters. the interior is nicer than anything offered by Lexus, Lincoln, Infiniti, Acura, or Buick and its right on par with BMW's 5 series (which admittedly is not at the top of its game) sure its not as Luxurious as Mercedes or Audi's offerings, but it does not need to be when it drives better, is far faster, and more of a drivers car than their (merc audi) offerings which cost FAR more.

    The E63 AMG is the best car in this segment but I think exterior wise this is the best and most aggressive looking.

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 8 років тому +22

      The CTS-V is a better car than the E63 S now.

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 7 років тому +7

      +Propel 2015 - "It's not better than the 2018 E 63S according to it's performance data."
      I haven't seen anything yet that suggests the new E63 is faster than the CTS-V, or performs better in any way other than traction from a stop (AWD vs RWD). The CTS-V:
      - is lighter
      - has more power
      - has more torque
      - has superior magenride suspension
      - has a superior lightweight chassis
      - Is on one of the absolute best performance platforms on the planet (GM's Alpha platform)
      So if you'd like to specify which laws of physics the E63 will be breaking in order to be faster than the CTS-V, please go ahead and list them. Otherwise, I don't see how your argument has a leg to stand on. And please, don't bother mentioning 0-60 times. Any idiot understands that an AWD car is always going to be faster 0-60 than a RWD car, especially with 600+ HP. That's just a matter of traction, not performance.
      Then best E class ever built by Mercedes is still not going to be enough to beat the best performance sedan platform ever built by any company (GM's Alpha platform). If you doubt that, go ahead and look at lap times for any of the Alpha platform GM performance cars like the CTS-V, the ATS-V, and the 2016+ Camaro 1LE, SS 1LE, ZL1, ZL1 1LE.
      Mercedes has their work cut out for them, to put it mildly. And so far, they have not been making AMG cars that are up to scratch against GM's performance cars.

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 7 років тому +5

      +Propel 2015 - "All that suggests is that it's a "Superior" straight line car and that's it about it just like all American muscle."
      That statement suggests you are entirely unfamiliar with how well the CTS-V handles. Go ahead and try to show me any E63 turning a better lap time than the 2016 CTS-V on any track in the world. When you completely fail to do that, then maybe you can explain what leads you to believe that the new E63 is somehow going to change that.
      The E63 is more of a muscle car than the CTS-V is. The CTS-V is better balanced than the E63, on a better chassis with less weight, better suspension tuning and vastly superior Magneride suspension. Here's an example. This is the latest E63 model available, since the 2018 model is not out yet. Note that this is an E63 S model specifically.
      2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-model - 3:00.1
      2016 Cadillac CTS-V - 2:56.8
      So I assumed it was a GIVEN that you understood that the CTS-V already outperforms the E63 S in any kind of track, lapping or handling comparison. Apparently I overestimated your intelligence. And your ability to look things up on google.
      "Mercedes will be fine as they always have been and they definitely don't need to look at GM's conglomerate line up of cars as a benchmark for fine automobiles."
      You keep telling yourself that as GM's cars continue to beat Mercedes' ass in the performance arena. Now answer my questions regarding which laws of physics the E63 S will be breaking in order to outperform the CTS-V.

    • @theredline

      Victor C. While AWD would make it more grippy, especially from a start, some may argue that it'll not be as fun and it will add a few hundred pounds to the car. Right now, the CTS-V is the lightest of the super sedans on the market. Only the GS F is lighter and it has significantly less power.

    • @UnitedRecording
