Better high than low!
💯
Nice 👍
Why? Low you can just apply power
@@rylanthompson5844 true but fighting the power low results in a sloppy approach
I’m high
"Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing." -War Thunder Tips
And any landing the plane can fly again is a great landing
i've heard that applied to ksp
Soft Landing

Aweful perspective...
If you crash in war thunder you dont die irl
I can hear my CFI screaming - "Slip! Slip! Slip!" And muttering under his breath, "This poor plane, such abuse..."
Haha yep that sounds about right. I'll be honest, slipping wasn't in my mind at all. I'll have to practice those next time.
Exactly what I was thinking the whole time. Once you’ve mastered the slip, crosswinds are just like any other landing. I always prefer the slip because you can bring it all the way to touchdown in the same configuration it feels like a stable approach and you don’t have to kick the rudder and aileron at last second. I feel the crab method has larger room for error. Windveing you don’t feel like your controlling the plane
@@Deanjacob7you’re referring to a side slip to correct for crosswind, commenter above is referring to forward slip to bleed altitude.
My instructor used to growl, "I'll break your arm."
Wow sounds kike a great instructor
Dude ya got it on the ground AND the aircraft is still flyable. So mission accomplished.
🫡 yessir!
Shit was pretty smooth for coming in high
haha thanks Sid.
It doesn't need to be a great landing, it needs to be a safe landing.
Agreed. IMO this one was safe but not great!
As long as you walk away from it you're good!
yessir! Even better if the plane is still functional.
Montgomery has some of the best controllers around
They have always been very professional and helpful to me.
After 67 years. The Cesena 172 is still standing. Truly a legend
I learned how to fly it so they must have made it pretty easy.
The 172s are so forgiving!
Hell yeah, that was a fine landing
Thanks Donald! 🙏
You should have seen my first landing in a Cessna 150 after 30 years of not flying. Compared to that, you nailed it!
Haha thanks Kevin. That's really cool that you got back into the cockpit after such a long break. It's crazy all the stuff that you can do with just an iPad that wasn't an option back then.
@@jeremyrpittman So true! I have Foreflight and it feels like cheating.
The touchdown itself was absolute grease, so good job. Also it was a safe landing (and on the centerline)
Thank you sir! I feel pretty confident handling the airplane close to the ground...just gotta keep it stabilized to that point!
Thank you for sharing this content. Excellent.
Happy to do it...never expected this level of response!
A safe landing is a good landing! 👍🏻
After 6 months of not flying a go around would have been a very positive reinforcement for having a stabilized approach every time.
I think this is the best answer. A lesson learned. 🙏
My teacher used to say "Every landing you are still alive is a good landing"
Better on the runway than part of it. Good job! 🛩
Haha yes absolutely 😂
Always practice the go around. Makes you strive for the perfect stabilized approach in all conditions.
Yessir! 🫡
You're alive, that's all that matters 😁
Haha plane still works too!
My CFI taught me to always come in high, and slip if I needed to then flare. It’s called the Sarajevo approach. if you ever lose power on the final you’ll be able to make the runway.
Interesting. I could see that being necessary for some airports with obstacles in front of the runway.
You're safe and sound.... great job
Thanks. That's what matters!
That's a damn fine landing for so many complaints. You are a humble pilot. You can be kind to yourself.
Thanks Garrett. I really appreciate that. Fortunately most of the comments have been pretty positive. I didn't expect this short to get so much traction.
Good enough!
Always remember, never guess a go around
Yes, thanks for the reminder. Might have forced it a bit.
You might have just convinced me to take lessons again. I only have like 10 hours in a 172 and I stopped taking lessons but now I want to start again lol
Jonathan, that's awesome! You should definitely do it. Sometimes it's hard to keep it up as a weekend warrior but getting the PPL is one of the proudest moments of my life.
@@jeremyrpittman I have the bug now! I'm gonna look into it! Thanks
“Another happy landing.”-Obi Wan Kenobi
Forgot to include this video angle of my landing ua-cam.com/video/r0zj3Ap74Vw/v-deo.htmlsi=G6i1MK8mK2UygGf2
I was a photographer hired by a local pilot. He was a bit high coming in to his grass strip and tipped the 172 up on its side and dropped it out of the sky. A little shook I asked what happened. He simply said "I slipped". Later he explained.
Fly the numbers and always stay ahead of the airplane. Good work. Get up there and do it again now!
Thanks for the encouragement to get back up there!
Any landing in one piece is a good landing bro! But thought you did good none the less! Nice job! 😎
Gut gemacht 👍
Danke. Mein erster Kommentar auf Deutsch.
@@jeremyrpittman 😁 das wurde auch mal Zeit 😁
Looked good from here brotha
After 6 months away, that's not too bad!
Thank you! I was happy that the skills and confidence came back fairly quickly
Scary landing!
Very high approach...
Too high indeed but not that scary!! I'd rather be high than low any day.
Pretty steep but descended quickly and smoothly to fix it nicely.
Thanks Shawn! I didn't slip but did have power out pretty early once I realized I was going to be so high.
A go around is far better than taking a chance at running off of the end of the runway due to brake failure.
That's a good point about brake failure. Thanks.
Approach was high, but you did a really good job fixing it at the end 👍
Thanks. I think I handle the plane decently well low to the ground but it's all about the stabilized approach!
@@jeremyrpittman Agreed!
You did fine. I thought you were coming in to fast, but obviously you weren't. Great landing!
Safe and sound xxxxxxz
I couldn't tell you landed yet!
Some say he is still floating to this day...
Not gonna lie. It took me a second to realize the first few seconds were sped up. I srsly thought you were coming at that runway over 100 knots haha
Much better than my first landing on SR20
Good Judgement pilot
Thank you David. 🙏
Ahh hell ya walked away :-b
Plane still works and everything lol
Ever heard of a side slip?
It was just fine. You could of did a quick crab to drop altitude a bit, but not necessary.
Thank you and good call on crabbing. Some others mentioned slipping too which I'll practice next time.
a bit high yes but still a nice landing. you weighed out the runway length vs altitude. well done.
My home field!
How do you like it?
@@jeremyrpittman good field
KMYF❤
Yessir!
@@jeremyrpittman as a student pilot based in KMYF, I can confirm that this airport’s got the best ATC ppl in the tower. They’re always so supportive & patient☺️
I like the stall warning b4 touchdown. Sounds worse than it was
.
Oh ya, it's a great feeling when you can really hold off with the stall warning and touchdown super smooth.
This should be a go around mate 😇.
You're probably right. I put too much pressure on myself to get it down on the first attempt
@@jeremyrpittman making a go around is a useful experience. However I do understand you. Almost everyone is go minded in the case of a landing. Happens to me 2.
@@Pilothooijhe’s in a 172 not an a320 lmao no need for go around unless you just want to go around
@@6z0 this is the general aviation mind set.
Dude crosswinds are everything...
This wasn't much of a crosswind but I still felt it!
@@jeremyrpittman I just rewatched... Yeah six knots... But I mean when you lose the feel of it all... I bet you were overcompensating on the rudder pedals hard.
@@wraith657 hah yea exactly. I'm starting to get the feeling back tho.
@@jeremyrpittman for me... Is way scarier losing traction on ice in a car.
Was there a upslope on the runway? Looked like it when you were coming in to land
The runway is 28L at MYF. I don't know it off the top of my head but the slope is very minimal. At the very beginning the video is sped up so maybe that's why...
That’s my airport!
Good ole MYF!
Ah yes Montgomery field
Good ole MYF
Good landing in my book! Crosswind and still landing centerline, not picture perfect, but still good
Thank you, MrPuddinJones... Much appreciated 🙏
Lucky am still waiting my first landing since 2 years and half
Good luck getting back up in the air! (unless you mean you have been stuck flying for the last 2 years! :P)
Could always do a slip as long as you do not use 40° of flaps
Yes, great point!
you can do it ..what are you talking about?
Way to high on the approach. Togo!
My brother in christ you were halfway down the runway. Go arounds are free
Lol half way? Noooo
Montgomery Field Airport , where I’m currently doing my training !!!
Nice! Good luck with your training!
@@jeremyrpittmanthank you!
Great landing
Thank you 🙏
Variety is said tobe the spice of life, cause theyre not always perfect!
True! No two landings are exactly the same.
Not considered good form, but smart use of long runway.......im sure on the next landing, youll grease it just past the numbers.....thanks for the share, and a solid , sane effort with a crosswind. You did just fine!
Appreciate that feedback! I'm hoping to fly some more coming up soon.
@@jeremyrpittman stay with it.....the fact that shared this shows you have Pilot instincts... Always Learn always Seek Experience from Other Aviators......the Wind occasionally blows someway nobody knows!
The approach angle is fine for piston singles. The problem was the approach speed which was obviously too fast (a lot of floating during the flare). When landing at a steep approach angle it's even more critical that the approach speed is precisely controlled.
Great 🎉
You're too kind. Thanks!
Nothing wrong with that! 😁👍
Thank you 🙏
A landing you walk away from is a good one
Makes you really respect those NAVY pilots landing an F-18 on a floating postage stamp
Seriously! I would have missed a carrier completely even with the C172
They land on an aircraft carrier not a postage stamp.
And they do their circuits starting at 400 knots upwind at 500ft, 3G turn downwind to slow, then another 3G turn to line up, hook down, gear down, call the ball, aim for the 3rd wire, trap the 3 wire at max thrust, stopped? ok 3 wire, thrust idle, clean it up for taxi
Big deal. I landed a 747 on a carrier off the coast of San Francisco, California.
(Ok, I was playing Microsoft Flight Simulator. And it was more of a crash than a landing. But still...!) Lol
My instructor taught me to come in high in case you lose an engine. He flew in WW2. his advice came in handy more than a few times
Whoa. I'd love to hear some of his stories. Definitely better to be high than low!
Looks like an aircraft carrier landing, but no water!
I love the way the runway looks as you're coming in for a landing.
I remember my first one, I landed it great and I left it at that
🙂
At least your honest
Welcome to steam edition
Does look a bit like a video game simulator lol
Just signed up for flight school here in bc Canada and I gotta tell ya, I’m shitting my pants thinking about those cross wind landings haha. But I guess that ms what I’ve got the instructor for once we go Flyin ehh
the first time I did a solo flight with x-wind in St. Pete, Florida I was sweating bullets but you get more comfortable with it as you practice. Good luck...you got it!
Remember these side effects. A narrow runway gives the illusion that you’re higher and a wide runway gives the illusion that you’re lower. So technically you were just a little bit high but hey a good landing is one where you crashed the plane but can still walk away and a great landing is where you can walk away and use the plane again.
My favorite maneuver would be useful here. The forward slip
👍👍👍
Full flaps. Vref 61 sink like a rock. U good.
It looked like you were going so fast at 1st xD like woahhh there slow down bud
I wanted to show more of the approach so I sped up the video a bit. It looks like I'm coming in REAL HOT. lol
@@jeremyrpittman Hahahaha no wonder it looked like a GTA V video 😂😂😂
Hey you did fine you landed and you are talking about it. My flight instructor use to say if you and the plane come down and land and both the plane and myself are safe it’s a good day just remember what not to do next time.
Best
Use to do the same in a 172 on 2300 feet a grass field
I did some soft field landings on a grass strip in Florida during my PPL training. I thought it was a lot of fun!
Any landing where the plane can be used again is a good landing
Tom get it
Remember:
You don't answer with your mind or your mouth, it's the heart ❤
Should have used the elevator. C-172H at my home field surrounded by trees. Get behind the power curve and you can get 500ft+ min sink rate.
Thanks for the tip
Kmyf! My home field!
How do you like MYF as home field?
@Jeremy Pittman it's pretty busy, but is pretty convenient because it's close to my work
Nice 👍
Thank you ✌
I thought that was microsoft flight simulator😂😂😂 Good landing though👏👏👏
After 6 months of no flying, why didn't you take a CFI with you ?
Go around!
Slip next time, also hold yoke back so front shimmy reduced. Also, either loose items and or air pressure causing front shimmy.
When in doubt go around :^)
Good advice!
@@jeremyrpittman they always taught us this. On Monday hopefully I solo the plane
@@808_murda2 That's awesome. Good luck!
You did fine.
Thank you Blakeney
You need a civilian LSO - “Right to left”, “Power… POWER” or my personal favorite to ignore “Wave Off Wave off!”
Looks like he was shaking a vending machine for a free snack before he landed. He put it down tho so enjoy them m&m's !
😂 I've never heard that one before!
I miss Montgomery
Come fly in sometime!
Landing was to high indeed. You land fine. But if you take a wider downwind of the runway, crosswind leg for taking youre time and you have a better and calmer final leg. More time to see the height. Not only check you're altitude indicator. Feel the VFR-flying.
That's good advice. A wider downwind helps keep me ahead of the airplane on base and final.
@@jeremyrpittman base indeed, i say crosswind
Altitude has more potential than the fuel in the tanks at getting you to your destination safely.
I'll don't mind being in a Cessna with you👌
appreciate that Marvin!
