I worked at a mine in Indonesia and the fast way to and from the remote-at the time-location was a Caravan on floats. Not a pilot and just a casual aviation enthusiast but I got attached to that plane like nothing else. Really enjoyed this vid. Thanx much.
Thanks Rich for posting this video and your other ones as well.Hopefully I”ll go flying again& in particular this wonderful machine!Meantime I have been enjoying this plane on MSFS 2020 with yoke & bravo throttle quadrant.Hi from New Zealand!
It is a wonderful platform! When I first went to my training company after flying jets in airlines they put me on the Caravan? I was not excited. I had never flown a turboprop and at that time, 08, the G1000 wasn't yet being offered, so round gages? The horror, LOL. Pretty soon they did start w G1000 as you mentioned. I'm surprised we never met, if you came to Wichita to train. We may have talked about that, my short term memory.....sorry. But I grew to love it so much. As you said, used all over the world. The clients we would get were so much fun to learn from them. Their culture, etc. And to fly the Caravan is such a joy! Great review
@@FlyingwithRich maybe but I didn't start with my company until 08. Was there in ICT until end of 12. Then transferred down here to Orlando. I teach the X primarily and Mustang too, although that usually is just for check rides anymore
Thank you for making these great detailed videos. You are quickly becoming the best flying channel. I would love to see my favorites in a future video the Mu-2 series and turbo commander. Keep up the great videos
Hi Rich. I flew the Alaskan bush in Bethel Alaska. The first time I was in Alaska was 1984.the outfit I was flying for Herman's Air, had two at that time. Weren't they called just caravan back then? Anyway, Had a lady pilot crash one of them 500 feet from the tower. And no one in the tower saw anything. She wasn't discovered for two hours. Because the fuel was forgotten to be turned on. That's why if both fuel selectors are off, the airplane yells at you! So anyway they were being sold before 1984. But that's all I know for sure.
@@FlyingwithRich I went back to Alaska in 1999. And flew for outfit called Grant Aviation. They put me eventually in the Grand Caravan. The one thing I will never forget when I was training. Was the smoke in the cockpit, emergency descent from 10,000! I haven't seen anybody put that on UA-cam. I think a lot of people would be fascinated and it would be very educational as well. Any chance you could swing something like that?
@@FlyingwithRich some sort of a fuel pressure issue. i think it it surged and then cut. he landed dead stick, downwind, full of jumpers & fuel, on a dirt strip with a fuel tank at the end. i was happy to walk away from that one.
Hey Rich. Excellent quality & content. Thanks. Could you help me out with sunglasses. I need prescription or magnification these days and struggle to find aviators to read the dials. Any tips? Thanks
Great to see you back in a 208 Rich, such a great machine. You seem so utterly at home in that one, like it’s second nature. How much Caravan time do you figure you have? Cheers. 🛸
Another great video ! Just curious as to why they did not include retractable gear for the caravan? Able to achieve IAS 160k i thought that the drag reduction would make it worthwhile.
Makes no sense. The maintenance costs go up. And the Caravans mostly operate on unpaved rough runways. You need a strong gear for this. Retractable gear is not as good as a strong fixed gear. And you would raise the chance of incidents.

I think you did my Caravan initial ground school back in early 2000’s!

The first version was the Caravan, then they stretched it to make Grand Caravan. Did not know that about the fuel selector horn - thanks for watching!

great plane. i’ve jumped out of them a lot. had an emergency landing in one once.
What was the emergency? I jumped from one as well!

Sounds like you had a great pilot! Where was that?
That landing must have been terrifying! BSBD.
@@FlyingwithRich i did! skydive elsinore
Top notch content as usual. 👍
Thank you!
Another workhorse that operates 365 up here in Alaska!
Still my fav...
Great load carrier ive heard that it flies just like a much bigger 172. Wonder how this compares to the Kodiak. Thanks Rich
It is like a big 172 - in a lot of ways easier ! Will e flying the Kodiak for a video soon!

Thanks - probably 2000 hours in Caravans over the years!
"The family wagon", as we used to say. LOL
When you gotta carry the whole family and their gear!
The 4 Blade prop that’s looking like the one on a TBM or a PC-12
TBMs and PC-12s have 5-blade props now.
Love the 208. Cessna did it right with this one.
Me too!
Welcome to my hood!
Why are you muting chunks of the ATC calls?
Owner didn’t want tail number in it.
Wow, what a beast......Aero Guerrero crashes the Caravan in Mexico with regularity! (Cool split screen at the end, thanks for the ride!)
I want to purchase this plane. I think im in love. Would've to go for a ride someday

Nice plane , But still want to see that Kodiak!!
Kodiak video coming soon!!
Just curious, why the tail number blocked on this video?
Owner request.
👍👍👍👍👍
How you like Kodiak 100?
Love it!
Why did you fly so low ? Isnt that a long-ish trip ? Why not fly higher ?
omfg I have watched every video on this channel what is my problem
Have seen the Fedex Caravans flying near me.
Where are you?
The top of the dashboard looks like poop for something so expensive
😎👍🛩🌈
