There really is a secret to perfect landings and in this video, I demonstrate the dos and don'ts that will lead up to greatly improve your landings. This video was first created in December of 2017. This is a current spin on a classic lesson.
Hahahah that controller at .34 sounds like he needs a vacation!
The all time best controller was Kennedy Steve at KJFK. He was normally the ground controller. He could juggle a dozen airliners at a time, many with foreign crews that were not not native English speakers. His rapid fire delivery interspersed with a very dry sense of humor was legendary.
What information I received from this;
(In no particular order)
1. Perfecting circuits is crucial gaining perspective on your landings.
2. Airspeed is King
3. Aim for the center line on your right should in the left seat, and sternum whilst in the right seat.
4. Learning how to correct on final with rudder control may be more effective.
5. A transition emphasises that the importance of controlling airspeed (airspeed is king) means that you don't have to flare. Making for a smoother landing as your not aiming to stall the aircraft into a touchdown whilst also decreasing the vision of the runway.
-15 Hrs, Rookie perspective. would of like to seen more of the runway from dash perspective on final.
Great video
It looked like his over the shoulder camera was slightly off so he used the wing camera.
Eventually youll really be able to BECOME the airplane. Feel that angle of attack. The one thing that ruins a perfect landing for me is when I do not transition my eyes to the very end of the run way during the transition/ flare. I dont mind the term flate, most guys know what you mean. Obviously you arent flaring like a 737. Airspeed, eyes, dont over control.
The best part, you can ALWAYS go around, throttle forward, yoke forward(both hands forward. Tell that plane what to do, dont let it control you.
Nothing better than that butter landing, a perfect landing becomes a shit landing just by not being spointed straight, side load is the worst.
Happy training, it never stops.
Jared, remember to just relax. Like Raspy said, "you'll become the airplane". Your body will tell you what to do in time/practice/learning.
This information is a key part for mastering your landings. I still use these techniques now that I am in the airlines. Great video!
Im a military flyer but I LOVE LOVE LOVE G.A even more and I appreciate guys like yourself who upload content like this. It really helps get me back in the game of G.A. I have to watch these every night before I turn the keys on the 172. Much appreciated. Blue Skies to ya!!!!!!! Where are you based out of?? Would love to go up with ya one day!!!!
Thank you so much for your great work.
I really appreciate you.
Thank You for all you do! Take Care
Love it Jason! I use all of these skills as a GA pilot.
Good work, thanks Jason!
Great advice as usual Jason. My instructor drilled in me when I was working on my PPL. “Centerline Centerline” when landing.
I'm a German student pilot. My last perfect landing wasn't on the centerline. My CFI didn't comment about the perfect touchdown. He only told me to use the right rudder to get in the middle. He's been an instructor for 35 years.
Sincerely, I want to thank you for sharing a discussion about your blunders. I watch your videos now, and you are an amazing pilot. I just had my first lesson with takeoff and landings and it did not go well. To the point of being discouraging. But hearing from others who I view as proficient in this who had precarious experiences early on, is very reassuring. Time to fight through! Your videos are extremely helpful and I can't wait to get back up and try some of these tactics. I think I have watched all of your videos related to landing.
Hey Aaron! Thanks so much for your support! Happy to hear that you're saying confident! It takes time to learn precision landings, it's one of the hardest things to get down. Can't wait to hear about your success!
I totally agree with you! Don't "flare" although many, many CFI talk of "flare", "flare"...
This will surely help with practicing circuits..
Great tips for ALL of us . . .
Thank you sir for sharing!
I just loved this channel! 😍
Thank you so much!
When you are in the left seat, is your sight picture for the centerline off the right shoulder in a C172? YOur videos just keep getting better and better! Glad I invested in a Lifetime membership! Your Audible books are great too! A Good Pilot is Always Learning!... On the ground, in the car, in the airplane! :-)
Some great tips!
Really hoping to see that side view flare vs transition approach!!!!
Good Advice!
If your beautiful plane had a head rest for safety in an emergency landing it would be great!
Great video, thanks for sharing this
I found my flying skills overall improved immensely when I got into instrument training. The real change was “fly by the numbers”, meaning knowing the performance settings that will produce the airspeed, attitude and track you want. A good landing required a stabilized approach and to make that happen, we need to know what inputs we need to make to produce that stable approach.
I firmly believe instrument flying makes much better pilots, even if they never intend to fly in the soup.
Good point
Round out at 70 flaps 20° now look at the end of runway and use my peripheral vision with sing and relevant back preasure but sometimes it messes up!
Thanks I’m working on landings as a new student and I guess because looking at large commercial airplanes land, I thought you had to flare like them.
You should have at least 1 million subs, this channel is great! What airport is that by the way? Looks real nice 👍
Thanks so much! This is Ocala
@@MzeroAFlightTraining You're most welcome! Thanks from South Australia
Let me tell you that all your classes are impressive! Thank you very much for that. The only thing that I´d to correct is your Voice Speed, you talk really fast and for US the non english talkers turns a little bit difficult to understand sometimes. Just a comment... Thanks again, for your lessons. Me and my buddies down here in Buenos Aires, Argentina are really happy.
heres a tip that works for me: dont turn final when you think you need to turn final.. do it 5 seconds before that and it'll prevent you from overshooting the runway.
i always turn too soon lol
That's it. I think I need to go ahead and buy your product. I am a rusty pilot and am just getting back into it after 9 years and I just am having a hard time with my landings. Every mistake that you mentioned is exactly what I have been doing.
Hi Darrell! Thanks for watching! We would be honored to serve you in anyway we can! Please reach out to us at support@mzeroa.com if you need anything else!
0:32 that controller sounds really fed up of Jasons enthusiasm 😂
How do you avoid being cross controlled when using the much rudder time make adjustments on final? Less ailerons?
I think he is talking about being on very short final (over the runway at a couple of feet off the deck) making those minor adjustments. I think he is talking about the difference between landing off center but on the runway vs. on the centerline so it shouldn't be a major correction.
Is there a rule of thumb for altitudes for each leg of a 1000’ pattern? There is more to flying a consistent pattern than just keeping it rectangular.
About 300 feet for each leg - downwind, base, final. But that is generally speaking. If you have extended downwind legs, obstacles, etc., you will have to modify accordingly.
Good Luck!
But u gotta recount for weather conditions
What was the wind direction and speed on that landing? Currently struggling when you got a slight cross wind. Always end up drifting to my left.
You may be having an issue with keeping your wings level. Also, sometimes the cross wind dies as you get close to the ground (it is blocked by structures on the ground or it just is different close to the ground vs. higher up) so a correction turns into a liability.
priority while landing...Speed Height Center Nose
I've watched several of your videos, why do you fly from right seat sometimes?
yes , why ? you should fly on the left, PIC should fly on the left.
He’s a CFI. That’s where he sits 99% of the time and probably what he’s most comfortable with. No reason to switch back and forth.
In the US at least there is nothing in the FARs that suggest you should sit on any particular side. I’m far more annoyed by Jason’s PTT button on the panel. :)
coming up on 40 flight hours and my landings are not great. thanks!
Glad we could help! Thanks for watching, Cooper!
Im worried about that atc at 0:30
See here’s the thing: I’m a student pilot. My instructor is teaching me to basically rip the power and rip that flare; hard landings. For me, I can’t do that. I float because of the excess energy in addition to ground affect. I literally am trying to come in an let ground affect arrest a majority of my sink rate, while giving it slight pitch attitude up. But the instructor grabs the yoke every time and pulls up to flare & effectively will pull control from me.
That sucks bro. You should fly with a different instructor, who will let you try the transition, a few times.
Why are you flying in the right seat?
Because he's an instructor, and that's where instructors normally fly.
When I fly alone I will do a couple from the left then pull over and move to the right...become pilot ambidextrous
@@LeantoPeak I have no idea why people are asking this every video lol
As a good instructor you must set an example for new pilots, the way you take the control wheel of the plane is not adequate, and it is not an example for new pilots either, I would recommend being more serious when you teach, otherwise you would lose all credibility of those who follow you.
