Owned the facelift Scirocco R for a couple years, absolutely loved it and still regret trading it in! It has so much more character than the Golf, which makes it more sad it has been discontinued.
Im looking to buy it as my first car will it be worth it???
@@AGUAPO the doors are very long and can be tricky to get out of in parking bays. The fuel consumption isn’t too great but if done right you’ll see 37mpg at best. The rear window is hard to see out of. So yes get the car! Those things won’t matter because you’ll love it. I recommend buying with DSG gearbox & putting on some Pilot sport tyres. It’s an absolute maniac on a stage 1 tune.

@@luka_abh totally different machines for different competitions landscape, haven been a X owner and driven IX few times. You could tell X is much more refined but properly fast car. IX does have more rough edges but more focused. It is sad that Mitsubishi canceled the super AYC on the VIII and IX here in USA. So the X out handles IX on tight mountain road for sure. Overall, I think the X GSR with lighter car weight(1520 kg) and 5 speed manual is the car to get here in USA- and I got one myself. BTW the JDM light weight RS version of the X is exactly same weight as the IX MR. And to complete in this group of refine German hot-hatch twins and STI the X is the better place to be and deliver almost same performance (stock form) than the IX. So I would call it the winner in this test.
@@rongchangwang1559 well yeah, RS versions are always 100kg lighter than normal version because they're bare bones, so an RS EVO IX would be still 100kg lighter than equivalent RS EVO X. On Tsukuba EVO IX is always 0.5-1 sec faster than EVO X, which is kind of a disappointment, since it always used to be that the newer EVO's were alwas faster than predecessor, and that's not the case with the X. Even though EVO X has an all aluminum engine, it's weight distribution isn't really improved. And EVO X's always lose in races to GRB STI's by a large margin too. Not saying it's a bad car, all EVO's are awesome, it's just that X wasn't that much of an improvement over the IX
SST will still shift quicker than manual, and the X’s AWD system is a lot more sophisticated, so those will more than make up for the extra weight.
@@alstound well, judging by races, they don't. On Tsukuba EVO IX is always faster than EVO X, and what's interesting that 5MT Evo X's are faster than SST versions

The SST was obviously made for track and it does a amazing job at it. Just don’t understand why they build it with weak parts. If it’s not the fork magnet falling off then it’s a bad mechatronic unit or clutch slipping or even over heating.

@@nelc2399 nah, 5-speed only! Some even modify the final drive so they do pulls until 4th and 5th only for overdrive. A Kozmic built SST will just kill it.

The Evo's best lap time was almost 2 seconds faster then the Scirocco's, that is a lot.
love my Scirocco an how other cars become tiny in seconds in the rear view. that and the looks. oh an the name Scirocco got to be one of the best name for a car - a hot wind, blowing from North Africa across the Mediterranean to southern Europe, hell's yeah.

The Scirocco R is the best kept secret of gran turismo 6; its easily the most capable fwd car on the game as well as the best 2.0L turbo in the game despite being fwd bone stock. The extended foot print, track width, wheelbase and well-tailored torque delivery are what allowed it to overachieve. In the age of gdi turbo charging manufacturers can roll the dice a bit and extend the weight and dimensions of their cars ISO better handling because the torque is plentiful. The Scirocco was the first car to go down that path

At 225hp in 2008, the 8th generation NA FD2 Honda Civic Type R just did not have the power to keep up with 2000-2016 Turbo AWD 300+ hp rivals anymore. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru Impreza WRX STi were challenging BMW M3’s not ~200hp Nissan Sentras, Toyota Corollas, and Volkswagon Gti’s.
It took until 2016 for the Honda Civic Type R to rise back with the 10th generation FK8 (and to a lesser extent the 9th gen FK2).
Finally, in 2016-2021 a Honda Civic Type R that can race Subaru Impreza WRX STi, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and Toyota Supra Mk5 on the Race Track and actually win. Throttle House used the Honda Civic Type R FK8 to actually beat the Toyota Supra MK5 on their Toronto track.

The newer "Type R" isn't what it used to be. They're heavier and don't like to rev as much. On a tighter course, like say, a touge, the older NA Type R's tend to be quicker/more responsive. Yes in general the newer turbo models are faster, but that's all they got going for them.
The fd2 in this video did keep up too, for having way less power, it kept up.
The supra is in a different league compared to these you mentioned

@@popemobile12 I fully agree, those newer Type R(FKs) just doesn't seem to have the "Type R" soul like the FD/EK does. And, the new NSX fully engineered in US is a complete flop compared to its predecessor.
In the beginning there was the Golf, when the word aerodynamics was still a foreign word in Wolfsburg. Then came the Scirocco, identical in construction like the Golf but without the feeling of driving a London bus, the Scirocco is nothing more than a flattened Golf, but they have one thing in common, both are emotionless.

Great race with a group of great cars. I think the VW didn't have as much drivetrain power loss since it is a front wheel drive, whereas the EVO is getting more power robbed through the four wheel drive system. On a flat dry track with everyone largely on the same rubber, it appears that just having a good front wheel drive is sufficient to run a good lap vs. the torque vectored four wheel drive. In other words, not so sure that the extra weight and power loss of a high-tech four wheel drive is an advantage over a good front wheel drive system - at least in dry, flat track conditions.

What are you talking about? If the evo can catch up to you that quickly but can't pass, it means there is some blocking going on. Therefore the only reason why the VW came in first was because it was slowing down the Evo.

Yeah I couldn’t believe it, I know for that generation in the States and in Europe, all the WRXs and STIs were manual (I have one) I did a google search and apparently around 2009 Subaru of Japan launched an automatic STI of the hatchback in response to Mitsubishi and their more advance automatic. They only sold them in Japan

The EVO X SST is faster than the sirocco. Just look at the laptimes. 1 second faster in battle, 2 seconds faster in time attack.
If you focus and watch very carefully, you can see that this was the time when German hot hatches became faster than Evo and WRX.

The gearing in the STi is bad. At certain point, I see the RPM drop to 2000-3000 rpm. Either driver error or the gearing is too wide. STI needs to be 4000+rpm to make full boost.

How is that the Civic type r is in the last position? For me that civic even today had one of the best acceleration in its class, beating the Lancer , Corolla, etc and this is the Type R, lol
Pretty sure the Civic R of the time was atleast half a second or more behind the Evo and Impreza in sprint acceleration alone and still a bit behind the Golf R (also AWD like the Evo and Impreza) while it's only FWD rival in the race (Scirocco) has higher power, turbo help and better transmission resulting in much faster acceleration mid range. It's fighting a losing battle here in a field of cars it shouldn't have competed against. Look at the attack lap times - clear disadvantage. Still, it did extremely well for all the disadvantages it faces.
