@@monlovchel Yes, I think he stopped with young Rhaenyra because he actually cares for her. With Mysaria she isn't Valyrian and also he probably didn't want to create b*stards.
It wasn’t just because of that, he simply didn’t have any affection for his first wife. He was forced to marry her when he was 16 and was sent to live in the Vale against his wishes. He then married both Laena and Rhaenyra out of genuine affection for both.
About the dragon eggs: The writer for this episode said that she intends for these three eggs to be Dany's, but that has yet to be shown or confirmed onscreen. In the book, Rhaena does not take as many eggs, so those eggs could not account for all of Dany's dragons. The origin of the eggs is a hotly debated topic in the fandom. A number of Targaryen dragon eggs have gone missing over the years, and wayward eggs often pop up in unexpected places. The most popular fan theory holds that the Dany's eggs came from a clutch laid by Dreamfyre, currently Helaena's dragon, formerly the dragon to Princess Rhaena Targaryen during the reign of King Jahaerys (Rhaenyra's great-grandfather and the king before Viserys). During Jahaerys' reign, Dreamfyre laid a clutch of three eggs on Dragonstone, but these were stolen by Rhaena's close friend (and potential lover) Elissa Farman, who fled across the sea to Pentos and sold the eggs to the sealord of Bravos. The eggs go missing after that, but it would explain how three sibling eggs ended up on that side of the world. In the show, Dreamfyre (who we see almost roasting young Aemond after the Pink Dread Incident), does bear a striking resemblance to Dany's dragons, possibly supporting this theory, but it's still conjecture.
It really burns my biscuits when the writers alter perfectly good canon. Not only are the eggs entrusted to Rhaena the wrong number, they're the wrong color to be Dany's eggs.
@@InimitableAde Well, I think one of them is going to hatch either for Rhaena or for Rhaenyra's youngest child, leaving three with them in Pentos. And, to be fair, the Dreamfyre eggs are not canononically Dany's, just theorized. My personal policy, though, is that nothing is in the work unless it's on the page or screen. The writer says she intends for these to be Dany's dragons, but unless that makes it into the show, then these are just *potentially* Dany's eggs. Three possible candidates among many. Not canon, just speculation. In five years, a show about Aegon the Conquerer could establish that the Targaryens left three dragon eggs in Essos, or the Hedge Knight series could have three petrified eggs that Aerion Brightflame is trying to hatch that get sent across the sea, and this clutch will be retconned as being just any other three. It's not canon until it's actually in the work.
@@Adamantium93 GRRM said that the origin of Dany's eggs would be revealed in Fire & Blood, and then we get the story of Elissa and the three stolen eggs. It's not a huge leap of logic to connect those dots, and even if one of the four eggs in Rhaena's care does hatch, the remaining 3 eggs are not the black, cream and green of Dany's eggs. Dragon hatchlings are the color of their eggs. It is known.
@@InimitableAde Drogon's egg is dark red in the show, so the other three would be close enough that could see them shifting to the color they are in season one when they petrify. Like I said, nothing is canon if it's not on the page or on the screen. GRRM also intended for Jon and Arya to be lovers at one point--that doesn't make it canon because he changed his mind sometime after writing the first book and has never explored that idea on the page. My point is that there's enough leeway to either accept these eggs as Dany's or dismiss them as imposters because the show hasn't given us anything concrete, just the writer speaking in an interview.
@@Adamantium93 I'm of the firm opinion that what's already established on the page is canon and I prefer faithful adaptations. I don't mind changes on screen if they improve on the text (Tywin and Arya at Harrenhal was the best example of that, imo), but the possibility of these eggs being Dany's doesn't do that, and having read all the books, I don't like the lore being fiddled with in this manner.
They Royals have stayed well away from government since the execution of Charles I. They are eligible to vote but refrain from doing so to stay out of politics and not choose sides. So while a lesser royal may be able to become an elected official and work their way up to Prime Minister, it's a taboo to be seen getting involved in politics if you're a royal and has been that way for centuries.
28:44 We can see the look of utter anguish in Rhaenyra's eyes when she realises that Alicent has already made her mind up. Rhaenyra wanted to avoid all-out war - something which through history, we see when two sides have stepped back from the apparently inevitable brink, as often as actually gone to war. Though Alicent's determination could be guessed at, it could not be known for absolute certain until met.
"You know what Aemond is... " Alicent is reminding Rhae of the boy who once spoke this famous line or should we say a threat ?? in front of everyone, I mean "everyone ,".... "I MAY HAVE LOST AN EYE, BUT I GAIN A DRAGON"... And you can tell Rhae's reactions at that time when Aemond said it... We're ready, Book Aemond is coming..
I love you guys, but you are mixing up Daemon's daughters. Baela has the dragon and she is the one who chased Criston, so Clarus was right when she said that. Rhaena is the younger daughter, and she is the one that Rhaenyra asked to go to the Vale and look after the children, and if possible to take the younger ones to Pentos.
The intro is the history of House Targaryen - Daenys the Dreamer prophesising the Doom of Valyria, the Doom of Valyria happening, the Targaryen Conquest of Westeros, King Maegor dying on the Iron Throne, King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne's golden age, the Great Council of Harrenhal which we saw in the first episode, the beginning of the Dance of Dragons with the two factions on different sides of the table, Aegon and Rhaenyra on their thrones on opposite sides and then baby Jaehaerys being killed and his killers being hanged. Previous intro showed Lucerys and Arrax being killed by Aemond and Vhagar which started the civil war. The last bit of the intro always depicts the last major event of the war.
Well it clearly shows two things before the Doom - but what those are is up to interpretation. The first one has a lot of stuff going on, clearly in Valyria with a dragon with the head of a person and some sacrifice stuff going on. Creation of dragons with blood (or sex) magic? Creation of valyrian steel? And then a Valyrian holding another who appears to be dead, infront of what seems to be water with a castle on an island behind them - may well be Daenys the Dreamer but I don't know what those circumstances are.
Thank goodness Rhaenyra remembers the Conqueror’s prophecy, how her dad only told her about it as HEIR, and knows what it actually means! I think this makes Rhaenyra steadfast in being “I tried to make peace over and over again, let there be fire and blood now.” It felt written all over Emma’s face in that last shot.
In the books danys eggs have another origin (although they also departed dragonstone under interesting circumstances) but apparently the director of the episode confirmed they are in fact danys eggs in this canon!
tbf the book thing was never 100% confirmed. iirc ggrm said it's one possibility, but it was originally just a way to make random dragon eggs being in the world more reasonable
On Baela, she was ordered to not engage by Rhaenyra. She had a chance to remove a powerful piece from the board, but Rhaenyra's orders cost another chance for a significant blow. And Rhaenyra is now not acting on confirmed information that her vassals in the Crownlands are directly under threat by a sizeable threat from her enemies.
I'm I the only one ? or no reaction channel recognized Diana in that tavern scene. The one whose bum was slapped and looked like she had PTSD from it. (understandably so) Since she is the maid that Aegon II SA(ed) and had Plan B tea and hush money from Alicent. The poor baby even had to serve Aegon and he didn't even recognize her but she seemed like she was holding back her sobs. 😭
rhaena is daemon and laena’s daughter not laenors- baela and rhaena are twins named after their grandparents. baela is named after daemons father baelon the brave and rhaena is named after laena’s mother rhaenys x
I think yall aren’t really seeing Criston in the right role. During peace of corse he would be a terrible hand, but this isn’t peace it’s war and Cole is the most experienced member of the Greens regarding war. For a war you couldn’t ask for a better hand imo.
Daemon is Rhaena father. Laenor's her uncle. It's hard to keep them all straight. The big question is is Laenor still alive? Usually a dragon won't accept a new rider until it's first rider is dead.
You guys shouldn't split the audio like that using only one pair of headphones, you won't get the stereo effect. Also, if it seems to dark make sure you're not watching the "HDR" version, there might be video settings you can adjust as well to increase the brightness.
I wish Nerdy would let Clarus finish her thoughts. Count how many times he interrupts her thoughts compared to how many times she interrupts his, it's illuminating. She just ends up saying, 'yeah, yeah, yeah...' I enjoy the reactions on this channel, just would like Nerdy to reign in his interruptions and let the lady finish her thoughts before interjecting....
We know the a dragon cannot b claimed by a new rider until their current rider has died so i feel like its either laenor has actually died off screen or he heard about luke and is on his way back and he can feel it either way.
@@perfectstorm8204 there has to b some sort of psychic bond with them we see it when drogon shows up when dany is in trouble. Syrax has felt rhaenyras pain twice once during her miscarriage and when she found Luke's dragon. We see caraxes scream in pain when daemon is hit with an arrow and he flies him out of there. We also see daemon raise his arm and as soon as he does caraxes raises his wing to block the arrows. Plus in order to use them proficiently in war they need a way to command them so they know where to go when to breath fire and I don't think reigns are enough they aren't horses. I also think that is why they put the eggs in the cradle in order to build that bond even b4 they hatch. I would check out David lightbringers channel he explains it better than I can.

Idk if anyone spoke about it before but... Dany's eggs were stolen by Elissa Farman during the reign of Jahaerys (predecessor of Viserys) and sold of to the Sea Lord of Braavos. Then, somehow, it ended in the hands of Illyrio Mopatis who wed the last female of the Blackfyre bloodline, Serra (a name she shares with one of Jahaerys daughters, I wonder why ^^ ).
They have confirmed the eggs in the show are Dany's (which is in and of itself kind of a spoiler). Definitely a change and not really a welcome one. Means there are more loose dragon eggs out in the world apparently.
Ned Stark was both Warden of the North and Hand of the King. But Warden of the North isn't quite the same as holding two positions on the King's Council. I think someone being both Lord Commander and Hand of the King is unusual.
The end of this episode changes everything! Now that Alicent knows the truth, any horrors can no longer hide behind believing she was right. She can no longer claim Aegon is the rightful king now knowing she misunderstood. I'm glad Daemon is finally facing some guilt for all of the terrible things he’s done. POS. Nice to see Milly Alcock again.
Rhaenyra was lit just a normal teenage girl who was born of privileged...and thats the only reason why ppl hated her... basically the uglies and the incels hating the pretty cheerleader..for simply being pretty
That's not true, and is very biased. Rhaenyra made all sorts of mistakes no matter how many times she was told "You need to act like an heir" When she was young, both her Father and Uncle tried to explain it to her, and she ignored them. She snubbed and insulted houses and nobles, and this translated into adulthood, when she expected houses to support her without any true political effort on her part. Now she's Queen, she has all Viserys' weaknesses of indecisiveness over important decisions. The reason her council don't respect her is because the only action she's told them to take was "I want Aemond Targaryen" and we know how that turned out. It's been weeks into the war, and she's only sent out messages, no plan beyond what Daemon made, and Daemon is gone. Rhaenyra is not a skilled Queen.
You are right, King's Landing got it's name because that is where Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters landed when they began their invasion of Westeros.
14:40 "A dragon is not a f*cking sword" It's a metaphor mate. The man is saying that a dragon's strength comes from its presence, unsheathed and shining, rather than its threat from simply having it.
There were two Kingsguard walking in front of her as she made the way to the boat. she clearly yells, ONE MOMENT! those were the fellows that she told. it took them a bit to get back to the castle
The tapestry changed to show what has happened. It starts with nissa nissa then goes to the doom then the conquest then harrenhal then the pact of ice and fire maegor dead on the throne then the great council from episode 1 then the wedding then it shows rhaenyra and aegon on their thrones with the hands sending out raven and dragons then we get blood and cheese.

I don't think those were Daenerys's eggs, as Daenerys had no blue or red egg among them. [Also - mild spoiler - in book Rhaena and her brothers ultimately did NOT go to Pentos.] EDIT: I was mistaken. @@Drummer4President I am aware. But not in Pentos, and with ONE egg. Neverthless, I already found that director confirmed those are Deanerys eggs. So I was mistaken.
What I liked the most about this episode was when Alicent realized she misunderstood the King when he was dying which led to this whole entire problem between The Blacks and The Greens.
but it didnt. Aegon being born did. Otto conspiring with the rest of the council did. Crowning Aegon was already in motion and nothing Alicent said or did changed anything. You may remember the looks on the councils faces when Alicent told them that... none of the believed her, but they didnt care because it was what they were going to do anyway.
Otto was gonna put aegon on the throne regardless of that. Alicent misunderstanding it only made a difference for HER. That is why she supported it, because she did believe he changed his mind. But They would have taken the throne with or without alicents support.
In the books danys eggs were stolen and taken to braavos and sold. And over time made their way to dany. Alot of people seem to think they r changing canon and have made those danys eggs. That would mean they changed who laid the eggs in the books dreamfire laid the eggs in the show 3 of those eggs came from syrax.
Regarding the main theme, the guy who wrote the Game of Thrones theme song, Ramin Djawadi, also composes for HotD. I personally would have preferred a new song for HotD or at least a remix of the GoT theme instead of the same song, but that's probably why there weren't any rights disputes over using it 😂
Re: the dragon eggs sent to the Vale with Rahena, I don't believe they are Dany's dragon eggs. These eggs are from Syrax, and Dany's dragons don't really look like her. About 60 years prior, a friend of one of the then dragonriders (Dreamfyre btw) stole 3 of her eggs and sold them in Braavos. The place Dany and her brother were first taken after they fled Westeros.... I'm pretty sure Helena forgave her mother Alicent b/c she knows she is going to die soon :( poor girl.
even if she doesnt want to regain the throne, if she wants to stay alive and keep her kids alive, war is inevitable. Something all of her councilors already know and getting frustrated with her because she somehow does not.

It's not so much about believing a "lie" which, she truly believed to be the truth until this moment. It's just Alicent accepting the reality that none of it matters anymore, the war is bigger than any two people, there are thousands looking for an excuse to fight. If she were to go back and tell the truth to the other Greens it wouldn't change anything, they were going to crown Aegon regardless and a war was going to have to be fought regardless.
@@baron7755 I disagree. You can see it on Alicent's face that she realizes the truth, which is why she stuttered over the words "the conqueror." But when she says there is no going back, she flat out spells it out for Rhaenyra why she is saying that; Otto is gone, so there is no firm hand guiding the council, Cole is already on the march, and neither of her sons listen to her. She is telling Rhaenyra that Alicent doesn't have the power and isn't in the position anymore to stop the forward momentum. Rhaenyra's whole reason for this meeting was to get Alicent to pump the brakes, but Alicent is telling her it's too late because she doesn't have control of the car. There is no stopping, there is no going back, it's just too late.
It's been said before but - the writer intends for these eggs to be Dany's... But honestly I think that's a pretty dumb decision. In the books the eggs are much older, laid by Dreamfyre who has the Same design as Dany's three and also have not just a very cool story of how they got stolen, tracked and then lost in time - but they also are in Asshai for a while, where The ship of the thief, Elissa Fahrman an old friend of King Jaehaerys' older sister, was spotted. The eggs have such a cool and well connected origin in book Canon and this one in the show feels kinda forced because Syrax doesn't even look similar. It's a change just because...
2:30 That's an odd comment to write just out of the blue, but just to play devil's advocate for a moment: Grooming is obviously wrong. Weird power dynamics that could lead to manipulation or coercion are clearly a problem too. Having kids would probably be a bad idea. But if we're talking about a situation involving consenting adults where none of that stuff applies (maybe because they didn't grow up together?) I honestly struggle to think of any rational arguments for why their relationship should be any one else's business. Is banning things just because they're "gross" or make us uncomfortable really something we should be doing..?
U guys seem to be confused or mixed up about alot of things in this show. For example thinking Laenor is Rhaena's father or that Rhaena is Baela lol. Daemon is her dad and Laenor is just her uncle. Daemon also hasn't cheated on his beloved wife Rhaenyra or his late wife before her, Laena. Daemon is definitely still angry and upset over his brother & being replaced. Not knowing his real place or being fully acknowledged by his bro. This Harrenhall trip is a way for Daemon to deal with his literal demons & come to term with things i believed. Also, NO guy, Rhaenyra is doing her best to prevent the war that the GREENS STARTED not her husband Daemon. C'mon it's clear that this all started with Otto & Allicents schemes & terrible parenting. There is no friendship between Allicent and Rhaenyra anymore, so messy is all that's left.
I think the gender dynamics at play at court are very intentional. Rhaenyra has brought Rhaenys, Baela, and Mysaria into her inner circle. They seem to very much be supporting her. Meanwhile, the men of the Crownlands on Rhaenyra's council seem loyal to Rhaenyra but they seem loyal in a very paternalistic way where they feel they know better than her and are trying to make decisions for her. Her councilors do have a point in that Rhaenyra will have to start making decisions soon but the way they tried to send her away shows that they view her as weak in part because she is a woman.
Not only that, it's also a commentary on how it's taught to men that violence is good, and that is more or less the only way to improve social standing so obviously men in this world will be more likely to choose violence, even jace this ep wasn't agreeing with rhaenyra
@@harshahir3176 Except given what's happening, the men have a point. Daemon, with a single dragon, got the largest castle in Westeros with only a single broken nose inflicted.
So while a lesser royal may be able to become an elected official and work their way up to Prime Minister, it's a taboo to be seen getting involved in politics if you're a royal and has been that way for centuries.
thank you for this! i was wondering about it myself
If we're going with the dragons are nukes analogy, this ep was about a cold war turning hot despite efforts at de-escalation.
When I heard Rhaenyra ask Alicent what her father said on his death bed I was like "Finally. The right question!"
Nerdy had it right, but Clarus confused him. She was wrong. She did this to him a few times in this episode.
GRRM said after this episode books is a book show is a show it is not what really happen meaning Condal f@cked up
No evidence of dragon at the Mill.
Yeah I recognized her immediately when they showed her face. Poor girl.
Lots of reactors seen her
rhaena is daemon and laena’s daughter not laenors- baela and rhaena are twins named after their grandparents. baela is named after daemons father baelon the brave and rhaena is named after laena’s mother rhaenys x
I think yall aren’t really seeing Criston in the right role. During peace of corse he would be a terrible hand, but this isn’t peace it’s war and Cole is the most experienced member of the Greens regarding war. For a war you couldn’t ask for a better hand imo.
Exactly
I must agree with my esteemed collegue Nerdy, having one man be the head body guard in addition to running the country is too much
Although it's pretty in line for how Aegon runs his King's Guard.
She just ends up saying, 'yeah, yeah, yeah...'
I enjoy the reactions on this channel, just would like Nerdy to reign in his interruptions and let the lady finish her thoughts before interjecting....
Its an adhd thing :s
To be fair Daemon took on a buttload of Crab Feeders and Craghas Drahar by himself, so taking on a half occupied castle would be light work for him..
We know the a dragon cannot b claimed by a new rider until their current rider has died so i feel like its either laenor has actually died off screen or he heard about luke and is on his way back and he can feel it either way.
We actually dont know that! There is very little we know about dragons or thier relationships with thier riders. Leanor is definitely not coming back
@@perfectstorm8204 there has to b some sort of psychic bond with them we see it when drogon shows up when dany is in trouble.
Yeah but why would you think laenor is coming back, after weve been introduced to adam?
@@perfectstorm8204 I feel like it can go one of two ways it can work out is if they completely confirm leanor is dead leaving seasmoke open for Adam or he is coming back. One reason I feel like it's a possibility is because of the trailer b4 the season started we seen what appeared to b rhaenyra standing on the beach facing seasmoke and what looked like laenor. I coil b wrong and it is adam it is just a theory. If the news of Luke just reached him he might have felt compelled to come back for some reason amd seasmoke senses it. Like I said just a theory and it's not too far fetched. But it is pretty much confirmed u can't claim someone's dragon. U can't pull a grand theft dragon they are bonded.
@@convulsiongaming8723 If he cared about Luke that much he would have stayed. Him returning would serve no one! Not him, not his house, not reynyra, not even Corlys.
@@SpitFir3Tornado Oh really? I guess it's not a big deal, even if I don't see why they would do this. Just for the sake of mentioning Dany I suppose?
Ned Stark was both Warden of the North and Hand of the King. But Warden of the North isn't quite the same as holding two positions on the King's Council. I think someone being both Lord Commander and Hand of the King is unusual.
The Blacks have 5 eggs. Rhaena and Prince Viserys' eggs have not hatched yet. They have 3 extra eggs which will eventually hatch Dany's dragons.

*Captain America I understood that reference meme*
14:40 "A dragon is not a f*cking sword"
It's a metaphor mate. The man is saying that a dragon's strength comes from its presence, unsheathed and shining, rather than its threat from simply having it.
Yeah and it’s a bad metaphor cause he’s wrong 🤷🏼♂️
There were two Kingsguard walking in front of her as she made the way to the boat. she clearly yells, ONE MOMENT! those were the fellows that she told. it took them a bit to get back to the castle
The tapestry changed to show what has happened. It starts with nissa nissa then goes to the doom then the conquest then harrenhal then the pact of ice and fire maegor dead on the throne then the great council from episode 1 then the wedding then it shows rhaenyra and aegon on their thrones with the hands sending out raven and dragons then we get blood and cheese.
Daenys the Dreamer, not Nissa Nissa.

Btw, you're mixing Baela and Rhaena. It's Baela who rides Moondancer and Rhaena who's been sent to the Vale and Pentos. :)
I don't think those were Daenerys's eggs, as Daenerys had no blue or red egg among them. [Also - mild spoiler - in book Rhaena and her brothers ultimately did NOT go to Pentos.]
EDIT: I was mistaken. Director confirmed that 3 eggs are future dragons from GoT. Fourth egg belongs to Prince Viserys. We will see if it will go with him to abroad, or will it hatch into Morning.

One of her brothers does end up abroad in the book

Addam is going to claim Seasmoke. The scene of Seasmoke flying over Addam when he was digging up crabs, he’s going to ride him for sure.
That would mean they changed who laid the eggs in the books dreamfire laid the eggs in the show 3 of those eggs came from syrax.
the books never confirm those eggs are danys btw. grrm even said it was just meant to make it more reasonable that there's random eggs in the world
Regarding the main theme, the guy who wrote the Game of Thrones theme song, Ramin Djawadi, also composes for HotD. I personally would have preferred a new song for HotD or at least a remix of the GoT theme instead of the same song, but that's probably why there weren't any rights disputes over using it 😂
As huge Otto fan, it’s painful to admit but Team Green is no longer defensible.
The introductions don't spoil anything, events of the show only get added after they have occurred; same for the season 1 intros.
If Rhaenera wants to regain the throne and keep her kids alive, her trying to avoid war needs to end
even if she doesnt want to regain the throne, if she wants to stay alive and keep her kids alive, war is inevitable. Something all of her councilors already know and getting frustrated with her because she somehow does not.
Yeah she doesn't just have her kids to think about as there is the prophecy too, if the realm goes to war, they are weakened against the dead especially since winter is coming

Idk if Ser Gwayne hating on Criston because of his classism (“what a giddying assent the gods bestowed on someone like you”) and racism (“to march out to war with a Dornishman”) is exactly admirable.

No she realizes her mistake but there's no going back. I think she's gonna double down on making Aegon king.
@@shehansoysa571 no, it is all a front
Just an awful writing choice from the writers of season 1 tbh

2:30 That's an odd comment to write just out of the blue, but just to play devil's advocate for a moment:
Grooming is obviously wrong.

Um Mistake ... Isn't Rhaena Daemon's Daughter not Leanor
It's like 175 years before GOT.
It was at this moment that Alison knew she f*d up.
There is no friendship between Allicent and Rhaenyra anymore, so messy is all that's left.

my dude you really laugh for everything
@@harshahir3176 Sure, but not necessarily forcing them to fight, but forcing them to surrender.
