    "what was the point of that scene?"
    Aemond was exposed in a vulnerable condition by Aegon. He showed by walking out nude that he doesn't care about what people think, and he's not the same boy they bullied years ago

    • @liamkampff1
      @liamkampff1 13 днів тому +2

      Yeah his standing up and facing his brother, fully nude. Was a power move, him trying to (and possibly succeeding in? at least in this moment) ridding himself of his shame - as well as reaffirming his dislike of his brother, despite how he has been dutiful and respectful on the surface!

      I think he meant more what was the point of the gratuity and explicit imagery. It was a little over top. We know he s in a wh*re house basically and when he stands up and we see his bare backside we know he’s nude. That’s what they meant. I kinda of agree with them.

    • @liamkampff1
      @liamkampff1 12 днів тому +4

      @SE-gs6gd I don't think showing the nude body is innately gratuitous. And whilst I think in this scene it serves particular purpose, even if it didn't - it shouldn't be scandalous it's simply a body.
      The earlier sexual portions of the whorehouse element, I guessssss you couldve said were gratuitous - but they were showing the setting so 🤷‍♀️

    The entire Targaryen dynasty was just about three hundred years long. So at this point in their history it is about 130 years since Aegon the Conqueror’s conquest of Westeros. Not a thousand years ago. I actually thought the opening scene was a good representation of how quickly something like angry words can spiral out of control. We see the young men arguing and then we immediately see the result of their feud. I know that there are times that television shows can be faulted for skipping over big events like that to save on budget. But in this case, I think it was appropriate. There will be plenty of big battles to come in this war.

    • @liamkampff1
      @liamkampff1 13 днів тому +1

      Totally! It was a thematic and conceptual battle to highlight concepts they're trying to tell, not a spectacle or main event with ANY of our main characters for us to consume. I LOVED how they did it!

    You’ve seen Oldtown in Game of Thrones. It’s where the Citadel is located. Sam went there in season 6 to train as a maester. Oldtown is home to the Hightowers. It’s the oldest (hence the name), largest, and and richest city in Westeros. And as Gwayne stated in this episode, it took him three months of travel to get from Oldtown to King’s Landing.
    To give you some historical scale, the city of King’s Landing is very young compared to Oldtown. The Targaryens only erected Kings Landing about 130 years ago, and it’s been the capital of the faith for even shorter than that. Oldtown is still really seen as the crown jewel city on the continent, where a lot of old money and influence still is.

    God every time i watch that Alicent and Rhaenyra scene it gets better and better. Soooo simple yet soooo complex. The score, the acting - the rotating overhead shot, Rhaenyra tiny smirk at the end despite a sort of end to her relationship with Alicent, she now knows 100% that she IS the rightful heir, and Viserys believed in her till the end.
    So good

    Aegon burned harrenhal 130 years ago, not 1000 (not trying to sound sassy, just adding these in as i watch along so theyre brief)
    "Guess we didnt have budget for a proper fight" the battle of the burning mill is only significant as being the first true battle of the war, it was very insignificant except for the casualty number. Showing the battle would take an entire episode of characters weve never seen before who all die immediately and neither of the main warring sides gain advantage :)

Her grandma is one of the coolest ladies in history and she was raised by her. She has a Dragon. She is betrothed to Jace and he actually listens to her and loves her. My gut is telling me that the scene with Aegon realizing how undisciplined his knights are and then looking at himself in the mirror is him reflecting on the thought that maybe his lax attitude and rule might have played a part in his sons death. I'm expecting a major change in how he rules moving forward.

    Mysaria chose to use her leverage as the White Worm to try and end the child pit fighting last season... her whole character has been her pushing back against the highborn actions that see people like her used as pawns and murdered. 22:39: No, this episode has all been about feeling vulnerable, exposed and weak. Aemond comes to the brothel to be with that woman to be vulnerable and feel intimacy with the woman he’s chosen.
    Aegon is realizing he’s vulnerable and weak. A fraud of a king and he’s trying to deal with that feeling.
    Rhaenyra is trying to be vulnerable with alicent while also removing any weaknesses from her side that the greens could twist to their advantage. Namely her kids.

    Not my favourite episode by far, but there were a few things a really loved, like Simon Strong. I think it was a great decision to cut the battle between the Blackwood and Brackens - both because we viewers had little personal stakes in it, and because the brutal cut to the aftermath show how quickly conflicts can escalate. It's more thematically fitting for the episode, where there is a last attempt to avoid all out war; the aftermath, the burned and corpe-ridden countryside, that will be the outcome of war. I also enjoy the possible symbolism of the mill, a structure that goes round and round and round in circles - when did it begin in it's cycle? The Blackwoods and Brackens can't agree when and why their conflict started, and soon people will argue over when the Dance began. But does it really matter?
