A piece of art is really just a bunch of really small ideas all added up, and it's amazing when someone breaks it down in such a positive and thought-out way!
Such a brilliant arrangement, Layne! It was both beautiful and hilarious. You all did an amazing job. I loved the medley before, but hearing Elizabeth break it down made me really appreciate all the finer details. Art indeed.
I’m so happy you watch Elizabeth’s videos of you guys, I haven’t found anyone else who literally picks each section apart so eloquently and meticulously. Is it ever the case that you’re, like, oh yeah, that was a fortunate accident, or are you literally thinking out every little thing in that much detail? Something I always wondered in English Literature classes back at school, writing essays on the tiniest things you notice in the text and wondering if the writer genuinely meant every last one of them... Layne, Elizabeth, I’m a big fan of both of you. Thank you for bringing me into this world!
Oh and also you guys wouldn’t it be just awesome if you collab’d on something? There must be something you guys can put together!! Very exciting! Please, please, thank you 🙏🏼
Fun fact: the purple glow in Geoff's eyes was not edited in, he just forgor to mute his spell and they decided to leave it in. I'm fairly confident mans is an actual dark sorcerer who steals people's voices. He goes and talks to Tim Foust and then his bass range suddenly expands like 1.5 octaves. He hangs around female singers and hits a D5. Coincidence? I think not. The funny thing is, why would Ursula need Ariel's voice if she already had a range like that? Mans could probably do the entire voice stealing motif instead of Rachel and no one would notice
Oh, I can seagull. Not in a good way. Real seagulls are very anti-tonic. If you hear something that you think is a seagull and is also in tone, then it’s not a real seagull. Trust me, none of y’all want to hear me seagull. Not even when I’m trying my best to keep it in tone as much as I can.

Elizabeth talks so.. carefully and measured compared to a lot of youtubers. It's a great thing, I'm normally used to UA-camrs that go "HEYYYYY WHAT'S UP GUYS ITS YA BOI KFDJLFKJAKDLKA" and that gets a little annoying sometimes.
I like watching videos of people reacting to songs and musical arrangements. But I think the reason why I enjoy watching this channel more than the other vocal coach reactions is that you seem genuinely happy and excited when you watch those clips. As I watch you react, sometimes it feels like I'm watching a child opening a Christmas present, joyful and pure and I think it's AWESOME to have that real positivity in your videos ! I'm a big fan of Rachel Potter and VoicePlay, and I enjoy it even more watching them through your videos, like a optimistic lens that enhances each talent you react to ! Keep doing what you're doing, your work is incredible !
Elizabeth always reacts like a kid on Christmas morning who just got her favorite present. If there were more people like her, the world would be a lot happier (I know I would be). Love her!
Not gonna lie. I nearly screamed when she paused before Geoff's wail at the end of "Poor Unfortunate Souls." Great analysis as always though. Love the depth from your videos.
I loved Layne in this one. His vocal percussion is so creative. Then you've got the chef - is he really safe to be left in the kitchen with knives around? We don't get to hear it much in VoicePlay, but he's got a wonderful singing voice.
But... Geoff sang it. Like i rewatched the original video about 10 times now to figure out which part you are talking about but the only "sing it with me now" i find is definitely and visibly sang by Geoff
J is such a fun noodle of a human being. He's definitely taken the role of the goofy child of the group (to Mom and Dad Geoff and Layne, and older brother Eli XD), and he's just so full of fun energy and silliness. Its nearly impossible to not smile while watching him I would also recommend watching some of PattyCake Productions' Unexpected Musicals; the company is run by Layne and former VP member Tony, and the production value that goes into those is downright incredible.
Pause the video as much as you like Elizabeth! I love when you point out stuff that makes me go back and listen to it a million more times! Your reactions are wonderful and make the videos even better. I love Voiceplay and to have you break them down and compliment them on so many different skills show how they (and you) have such a grasp on music. Now you need to listen to "Superstition" and "Mr. Grinch" (Geoff leads!)!
Geoff's solo rendition of Blackbird is absolutely beautiful! And he really showcases his full, entire vocal range through it. People get wow'd by a 4-octave range. Geoff replies: "Pathetic."
Now you HAVE to watch VoicePlay‘s Frozen 2 Medley. One of my favorites. And to finally make the full „Nightmare before Christmas“ experience complete you have to watch their rendition of „Kidnap the Sandy Claus“.
@@bensnow3744 he did try for a different style than he usually goes for, so I can see how some people prefer his other works. It's my personal favorite, cool if you don't like that one
I’d love to see you respond to Voiceplay’s Queen in 5 Minutes. It’s absolutely amazing and the vocal elements but also all the facial expressions and interaction between all the characters is worth multiple watchings. You can almost see the personalities and rivalries between these characters that have been developed in such a short time. These folks are phenomenal singers and darned impressive actors, too.
Hi Elizabeth, I'm really glad you got back to VoicePlay and their rendition of, "The Little Mermaid." Eli and J None did a fantastic job, Rachel was amazing and beautiful as Ariel, Geoff was incredible as Ursula/Bass, and Layne's performance was especially outstanding as the percussionist/beatboxer. Thank you, Elizabeth, for this Terrific Tuesday!!! ❤
I love this medley, and already watched it a zillion times, so I didn't mind the pauses. The amazing thing was watching you, your enthusiasm, how much fun the little kid inside of you was having! And I learned a whole bunch of things thanks to you! This was an awesome reaction, thank you!
I love watching your reactions - you give such a detailed breakdown on what you're hearing, and it's clear that you're enjoying every bit of it. I'm especially delighted by how you bring attention to not just what's going on with whomever is singing lead, but also what's going on in the background vocals (plus, it's great to hear Layne getting his due recognition!). You've gotten me to be a more active listener to music, and it's amazing how many little touches are there when I pay attention to the details. You're really helping me bring fresh ears to songs I've heard. I will say, I'd love to hear what you think of Voiceplay's Queen in 5 Minutes or Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. Their medleys are so well arranged (well, you know that), and their transitions are so smooth, they've spoiled me for other mashups.
VoicePlay kinda recently released a cover of Bang! ft Deejay Young and its so much fun. Eli, JNone, and Deejay do a beautiful 3-part harmonized run, Layne's beatboxing is incredible as always, and Geoff once again drops the bass like its nothing. You have to check it out!
Ooohhhh Yeahhhhh! I am looking forward to this soooo much! I am especially looking forward to your reaction to Geoff’s part and his insane D5 - D2 slide with the subharmonic D1 layered below!
@@niarudle She reacted to it in the Live chat and somebody mentioned the D1 so it’s fine. The D1 is 100% layered. He sings D5-D2. That’s why you hear a clear D2. The D1 is in the karaoke track on VoicePlay‘s Patreon so it‘s an extra background feature. I believe Geoff said at some point that the slide had to be 3 octaves instead of 4 because a 4 octave slide would have been too rushed in the short time. So D5-D2 + D1 it is.
I love watching vocal coaches and singers/songwriters react to Voiceplay or Geoff’s solo stuff because hearing someone who’s a professional in this field get into the nitty gritty of why its so good makes me think of things a lot differently and I find that really cool

Also, basically anything on Geoff's solo channel is great - Blackbird and Sixteen Tons are awesome.
I have seen couple of other "reaction" video to this Little Mermaid Medley. sure ... yours I think the longest duration, *HOWEVER*, I think with your background and experience as Vocal Coach, not only you understand the dynamic of emotion they played with their vocal (or voice; hence, "voiceplay" 😊), and your reaction to it while that particular note/sound being played, made it much more relevant and pleasant. thanks, and well done 👍👍👍
Who does not love the Little Mermaid. When I was helping out at the GF's day care employer back in the day. The kids would want to sing these songs EVERY day. So looking forward to your reaction.
Jay's ascending run on the "going up there" line also reminded me of bubbles rising to the surface of the water. Edited to add- Geoff's sway in his voice really plays into the "spell weaving" that is the underlying theme of the song. You're just drawn in and find yourself hypnotized.
I know it hasn't gotten a ton of views but Bang! by VoicePlay is just so good. Crazy runs/harmonies, and they featured a new (to them) singer, DeeJay I think? Anyone else absolutely floored by it?
I absolutely love voice play. Truly an entertaining group. I have cochlear implant in my left ear and I am using it to hear the range that I don’t normally hear with my hearing aid in my right ear. Today I am using only the cochlear implant and I actually can hear every bit of the rich tone, the highs and lows and the deepest deep that Geoff can only produce! That deep tone made the back of my hair stand up and I felt the incredible tingling all over! Jay’s voice is my favorite, but then to hear Eli blew me away. I had to replay the video a few times to hear Lane’s percussion. This is MUSIC to my ear!! Love it!
by far best reaction and more importantly for me analysis. The amount of new idiosyncrasies that I hadn't picked up on before, amazing. like the panning @ 25:04.
Everything by Voiceplay is an absolute masterpiece. I will not be persuaded otherwise lol. Most of the disney stories are very very dark in origin, violent, bloody, death.. I learned that doing folklore in high school, it was fascinating.
What's crazy is this video could have easily been twice as long, because there are so many fun or amazing little bits that went by without comment. Geoff's epic slide from 19:17 to 19:22, Rachel's little Mariah Careying of the word "be" @ 30:32, and many more I know I've forgotten. And I wouldn't've cared that it was that long, either. VoicePlay (and your reactions to them) is just so delightful!
I know what you're doing in the thumbnail but it still looks hilarious. A new chapter to the Thumbnail Song. Looking forward to this; you are definitely one of my top 5 "feel good" channels.
Me before this video: 😡😡🐍🐍👊👊👿 👿 "Welcome back to the Charismatic Voice." Me from that point on: 😍😊😆😎🐙 This channel introduced me to the awesomeness that is Voiceplay so I've been waiting for you to react to this. It was definitely worth the wait. I know some people get annoyed by frequent pausing, but, you pause when you are interested in or excited by something, and Voiceplay's music is full of interesting and exciting moments AND an excited and interested Elizabeth is what we're here for!
You commented near the end how you liked how they "dropped Geoff's voice". You need to listen to one of his teaching/coaching videos. They didn't drop his voice in that moment. That is his speaking voice range. Not quite James Earl Jones, but with little production and amplification they could use him to bring back Darth Vader.
I really enjoy how you break down these performances. I love your facial expressions they show how much you enjoy the parts and how you get surprised at parts. As for fairy tails most originally are dark and were reconstructed due to people not wanting to "scar" our kids and decreases the effectiveness of the lesson of the fable.
Holy smokes Elizabeth!!!!! I’ve been watching your reactions for a while now...You caught my eye several months ago cuz you look like my sister...I thought you were just a vocal coach/singer.. anyway, I just found a performance of yours...geez you’re a VERY powerful soprano!! It makes sense for Rachel to sing the later Ursula version because, by that point, Ursula has stolen Ariel's voice.

sure ... yours I think the longest duration, *HOWEVER*, I think with your background and experience as Vocal Coach, not only you understand the dynamic of emotion they played with their vocal (or voice; hence, "voiceplay" 😊), and your reaction to it while that particular note/sound being played, made it much more relevant and pleasant.
thanks, and well done 👍👍👍
I love the way I’ve listened to VoicePlay so often, but each time I watch one of these vids I learn so much and hear things I never noticed before
I love the way you break these down, I miss so much! Thank you!
*I can feel the welling of extra eye water.... I guess that's tears* Indeed Elizabeth, indeed.
Thanks for helping me appreciate all of the amazing details in this arrangement!
Honestly any of geoffs solo stuff is INSANE. He hasn't put out anything I haven't liked yet and each brings something completely new to the table.
“...extra eye water, I guess that’s tears.” 🥰j’adore.
Yay she’s done it!!!
Who does not love the Little Mermaid. When I was helping out at the GF's day care employer back in the day. The kids would want to sing these songs EVERY day. So looking forward to your reaction.
"The GF"?

Finally! I've been waiting for this reaction. I LOVE this rendition by Voiceplay
Jay's ascending run on the "going up there" line also reminded me of bubbles rising to the surface of the water.
Edited to add- Geoff's sway in his voice really plays into the "spell weaving" that is the underlying theme of the song. You're just drawn in and find yourself hypnotized.
On Geoff's Channel he actually reads the fairytale version of the little mermaid :D
and an amazing version of "The Raven"
“Extra eye water.” Yeah, I get that too sometimes, in fact I’m going to use it from now on. “I’m not crying, it’s extra eye water, that’s all!”
I know it hasn't gotten a ton of views but Bang! by VoicePlay is just so good. Crazy runs/harmonies, and they featured a new (to them) singer, DeeJay I think? Anyone else absolutely floored by it?
@TheCharismaticVoice Geoff posted his narration of “The Little Mermaid” audiobook on his channel.
I came here specifically to comment this! 🧜♀️🧜♂️🧜
Love it!
Your smile and joy in listening to these songs make it a pleasure to watch you.
by far best reaction and more importantly for me analysis. The amount of new idiosyncrasies that I hadn't picked up on before, amazing. like the panning @ 25:04.
I want reactions and break downs of all of voice plays work cause theres so much in every song
I know it's not Christmas anymore, but if you like Layne's French accent you've gotta check out their You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch 😂
I know what you're doing in the thumbnail but it still looks hilarious. A new chapter to the Thumbnail Song.
Looking forward to this; you are definitely one of my top 5 "feel good" channels.
K.D. Lang - Hallelujah live at the 2005 Juno Awards
Absolutely one of the best renditions of Hallelujah ever. lots of passion and a great voice to boot
Me before this video: 😡😡🐍🐍👊👊👿 👿
"Welcome back to the Charismatic Voice."
Me from that point on: 😍😊😆😎🐙
This channel introduced me to the awesomeness that is Voiceplay so I've been waiting for you to react to this. It was definitely worth the wait. I know some people get annoyed by frequent pausing, but, you pause when you are interested in or excited by something, and Voiceplay's music is full of interesting and exciting moments AND an excited and interested Elizabeth is what we're here for!
Or, to sum it up: "did we like it?"
"Yes indeed."
It is so nice to see someone else get chills with Voice Play and Geoff's low notes!
Wow!! Totally blew my mind!
Thank you! Yes, but I don't like to flaunt it. I'm glad people have gone out and found some of my work, though. :-)
I really love your enthusiasm and joy you have while reacting to videos. It is so much fun watching you enjoying it.
No one hand Layne a cleaver please. It does things with his head 😱🙃
AHAHAHAHA!
You were correct. The effect you were talking about was indeed a flanger.
I love how excited she gets on just key changes and riffs!😂
It'd be cool if you would react to *Tomi P's Hellfire.* He's got insane range in this arrangament (F0-F6!), it's also just brilliant performance from him.
I love how enthusiastic you are!
I'm stealing that line the next time I see a sad video. "They aren't tears, it's just extra eye water!"
Yes!!! So happy about this reaction!
Their cover of can’t help falling in love is absolutely amazing the arrangement is so good
You giggled like a child a few times. That was adorable. Good reaction again.
All of this track is incredible, but Rachel's bit after Geoff says 'sing' makes the hair on my arms stand up.. It's just beautiful.
"The welling of extra eye water. I guess that's tears." Best description ever. 😉
“It takes a confident man to seagull...just sayin...’” 😂😂
