Fun fact: Rachel performed as Ariel at Disney World for years. And actually Eli (guy in yellow) is the tenor, J-None (Sebastian) is the baritone. Just everyone in this group have massive vocal ranges, so they can basically all take each other's parts if they wanted. Geoff alone has like 5 octaves

Unpopular opinion but I think his D5 to D1 in this is honestly more impressive than his B4 to E1 in Oogie Boogie

@@adam_c_edwards to be a bass you only need to have a comfortable E2 (which is clearly easy for him). In classical spheres it differs but again, Geoff is a bass, not a basso profundo, and he doesn't sing in opera or the like

No, seriously, damn near anything that VoicePlay has done is worth the reaction. One just kind of... heart-breaking thing about them is that one of their members just moved on from the group early last year. He was an original member of the group and how long he'd been with the group was just... incredible. Don't get me wrong, they're still killing it after his departure, but he's been such a constant that I still miss him. This is actually from after his departure, and what the group does when a member leaves (which has happened once before since they've really been hitting UA-cam) is that they'll cycle through featured guests as they work to find a suitable new permanent fifth member. J-None is one who had several songs "featuring J-None" before they dropped that, and he just became a permanent member of the group.
As for Geoff being a bass, he actually is a self-described baritone, who at one point wanted to be a rock tenor. What's worse is that he's got a solo channel where he will layer himself, and sing four or five parts within a song. It's just not fair getting to listen to him rock all of the ranges. He even did a cooperation piece with a group called The American Sirens on a song called Mele Kalikimaka, and they just killed it. On top of that, he just released an hour-long video of him reading the original Hans Christian Andersen book, The Little Mermaid. An hour of his voice. I haven't yet mustered the strength to watch more than the introduction from it.
If you want to hear his absolute best bass you need to watch oogie boogie song.
He's singing most of it and the endnote is probably not even on your keyboard.
It's an E1 so he's definitely pushing it.
And he goes up to a B4! Could be Bb4. Ridiculous.

Literally! I also feel like voiceplay has been trying to fit Eli into a voice part that he's not 100% comfortable with since Earl left
I still want them to do one entire song where they're all completely out of their normal lanes the whole time. Geoff on tenor, Eli on percussion, etc. It would be a bit of a dumb flex, but it would be so fun for their fans, and we all know they're entirely capable of it.
Another rachel/Voiceplay medley where she's really showcased is the phantom of the opera medley... She makes an awesome Christine. She also did a moana medley with them!

Geoff Castellucci’s range is INSANE! I personally only watch Voiceplay videos when he’s featured. His voice and performance is mesmerizing.
Hard to decide what I'm loving most: Voiceplay's incredible performance, or watching YOU and your total delight in it. 😂🥰 (And yeah, echoing everyone else who suggested Oogie Boogie for that BASS-bass. 🤯)

Also you should check out their Frozen II and Moana medleys, as well as "boy bands in 5 minutes", "sh-boom", "oogie boogie song", and "warriors" (some of my personal favourites, but honestly they are all great so you should check them all out). Geoff does his own solo work, so if you want more bass you should check out his covers of "bare necessities", "high and dry", "blackbird", and "16 tons". Or if you're in a spooky mood, check out his cover of "the headless horseman".

Ooh I like Voctave too! I got into them because VoicePlay featured that amazing sweet tenor of theirs (EJ Cardona) in their cover of Go The Distance. (which is also the first VoicePlay song I ever heard)

You're right on with the Phantom request. They have a different baritone singer, and it is one of their older tunes, but Rachel Potter is brilliant in it.

Oh man, that was amazing. I recognized Geoff Castellucci's voice immediately and I've only heard him once before, it has this unique depth to it. That was so good and so entertaining!
I absolutely love VoicePlay. They are all insanely talented. Geoff is my favorite, and he has his own channel; Sixteen Tons is my current favorite. Eli (bald guy), and J'None (black guy) are both easily able to sing Tenor to bass, but Eli usually does Tenor, and J Baritone. People tend to forget that Layne isn't an instrument. Geoff is the gem for most though. He has a comfortable 4 octave range, with an additional octave using techniques like, subharmonics, and growl.
Anyone else think Ursula kinda looks like Geralt of Rivia if he was a smurf

I love Geoff! (the bass, Geoff Castellucci). he has videos where he talks about his technique and even does awesome solo stuff you could react to. I have learned to do similar technique but it's not quite the same as a true bass and the tone on the low notes is beautiful.

I've listened to several of his spoken word recordings (Poe's The Raven, etc.) and they are just as entrancing. That guy could read the phone book aloud and I'd listen...
I second all the suggestions of the Voiceplay and Geoff singles, but I haven’t seen anyone mention VP’s Queen in 5 Minutes, which is amazing. The singing is phenomenal, but the acting is worth multiple watches.

Ive been obsessed with these guys. Their tours are. Eli (ellie) is the bald guy. The guy who sings Under the Sea is J None. The bass is Geoff (Jeff) and the percussionist is Layne. I suggest listening to their Moana medley and their Frozen cover.
I also really enjoy their stuff from before Earl left the group. That screaming tenor! Very distinctive on top of those beautiful stacked harmonies they do. Their cover of True Colors from the Earl era is very sweet. And Can't Help Falling In Love.

Rachel and Geoff both have incredible range. I really love it when Geoff hits those low notes, what my Dad called down in the basement.
I'm a teacher and this is a music video I play for my students all the time and they LOVE it. They also really like Voiceplay's cover of "Kidnap Mr. Sandy Claus" from Nightmare Before Christmas, and some more good songs from Voiceplay are Oogie Boogie Song (bass really shines in that one), Queen in 5 minutes, Boy bands in 5 minutes, and Daddy Sang Bass. My students also LOVE their Moana medley they have as well.

I really really love this. The perfect song for you to discover VoicePlay. I love how you mix up the tenor and baritone - testament to their ability!!! I love how you call out Geoffs G3 as his top of range, and then when he kicks it up an octave, then reaches a D5 you only say "who is he?".

Their Moana medley is fantastic but you HAVE to listen to their Phantom of the Opera feat. Rachel as Christine, and Tony Wakim is still in the group for Phantom as well as Earl. Phantom is literally my all time favorite! they've also got a Disney heros and Villans medleys which are fun. I absolutely love Voiceplay! Also Eli is pronounced like 'Ellie' and he is 'Flounder/Scuttle'in this video and J-None is Sebastian, and of course Layne on beatboxing as 'Prince Eric/Chef Louis', and Geoff's Ursula was amazing
A lot of people have mentioned Oogie Boogie Song for hearing Geoff flex even more. I would also recommend checking out his solo stuff. He does videos where he does ALL the parts. I particularly like his cover of Blackbird which shows off his subharmonic technique and Sixteen Tons which he did the low notes with all chest.

If you love the bass, Home Free is another Acapella group I recommend!! They are incredibly talented and have performed with VoicePlay in the past too :D
The reaction + the amazing performance makes this THE BEST video to watch under most circumstances, but especially when I'm having a bum day 😁
Geoff is NOT a true bass, he is just a dark baritone. He has even stated that himself.
His usable *pure* chest range is B1-B4. An example of a great true bass though is Avi Kaplan.
He said he would rather sing baritone, he is an obvious bass.
Nicolas Cage he specifically said in the follow-up of “How to sing low” that he is a low baritone and wouldn’t consider himself to be a bass. Also if you listen his higher part of his chest register his both primo and secondio passagio, is significant higher than a bass.
Also one thing: saying that a bass “would prefer to sing baritone”, kinda contradicts itself because voice type is based on where your tessitura lies aka where you’re the most comfortable. So if you “are a bass who prefer to sing baritone” your aren’t a bass, you are a baritone.
Another true bass is Tim Foust from Home Free.
@@toodlescae Tim, Avi, and Geoff all claim to be baritones with bass ranges rather than true basses.
@@Guurzak All I know is that on the Sing Off one of the judges said Tim was a natural bass. If Tim says otherwise then that makes what he can do even more astounding.
Rachel has worked with Voiceplay several times, through several personnel changes in the group. She was in the Moana medley when Earl was still in the group before J. None joined. She did Phantom of the Opera and several other songs with them when Tony was still with the group. I think she's a great fit and I always enjoy when I see "featuring Rachel Potter" on a Voiceplay video.

Hannah, I just discovered your channel, watched a couple of your reactions and subscribed. I like your giddiness as you listen and react to music. Your vocal coach insight is also appreciated.. Of course, I especially appreciate the ones where you react to some of my favorite performers. Since I see you have a fondness for deep voices (ie, Geoff Castelucci) both in his own solo performances as well as VoicePlay as a group, might I recommend you explore more of his work. I guarantee his low notes will curl your toes. I will let you find which song, but there is a recent VoicePlay release where Geoff lands a solid B0. His solo work is phenomenal, in vocals of course, but the cinematography is epic as well.

so recently, i’ve been having the hardest time accepting the fact that my range has changed from a soprano to an alto from puberty and you have helped me so much with trying to explore my range and see what i can do, while also helping me explore mixing and utilizing my chest voice which has always been VERY hard for me to do. sooo thank you!
