Yes, Dr Lisle, I’m one of those people who need a little fat to feel “complete”. After years of trying repeatedly to cut out as much fat as possible, I never felt happy. Now, I add a small portion of avocado to my huge salad, and a little tahini to my cruciferous. This satisfies me and allows me to eat more of the veg than trying to eat the same amount without the fats. The additions are miniscule and make up a very small part of my diet but the gains are immense, ie, I eat more veg and lose weight and am totally satiated and no longer obsess about food. Overcoming the guilt of allowing myself a little added healthy plant fat was probably the biggest challenge!
@@Goodbyeeveryonehere You may not be eating OVERT fats but you are eating fat in your food. All plants have some fat. Chickpeas have fat, greens have fat, oats have fat (quite a bit actually). We need essential fatty acids to live, not only omega 3 but also omega 6 and 9. The reason you are still alive is because all the food you eat has some fat.
My body needs more fat for whatever reason. I’m currently 5’5” 115 53 lift weights 5/wk. I’m not able to eat fruit, grains, beans due to an illness. I’m healing slowly but need more fat than most vegans. Is it possible that some systems thrive on slightly different approaches? I hope as I heal I can tolerate beans, rice, etc. For now I’m thankful for flax. I’m vegan except for one needed supplement. I keep trying to take it out but I get worse. I have been able to decrease the dosage in 6months vegan.
When I lost my cat...Bodhi, unexpectedly, at barely 13 in 9/2012 the grief was something I'd never felt before. I couldn't stop crying for weeks. The only thing that helped me survive the devastating heartbreak (I should have realized sooner than I did that something was wrong with him) was saving another life, a kitty I still have, Bleu. Bodhi gave me a sign in the sky the morning I found Bleu.

Another fantastic interview with Dr. Lisle! He just gets better and better at answering these questions! Please keep them coming Chef AJ! I always love that I continue to learn so much from him each time I listen to these interviews!
The bread and butter story cracked me up. When I was a kid, I forgot my lunch one day and they gave me a bread and butter sandwich-white bread with about 1/4” of butter. It still stands out as one of the best things I’ve ever eaten!
@@Nina-hk7ubmy dad grew up in the depression and our family were extremely poor farmers. His daily lunch he took to school was a couple of cold water biscuits smeared with lard. For dinner they had beans daily for several years.

I'm a devoted decades long vegan, but honestly have to say that (1) my blood sugar goes UP on HCLF and (2) my weight goes up on HCLF. I do better with less carbs and more fat and protein (vegan of course). The weight of food (pounds per calorie) in my stomach is not what satiates me AT ALL. I eat more food when I eat low fat because I don't feel satiated. In my body, it is protein and fat that satiates...which sometimes means less calories overall. I have had to cut carbs again because my blood sugar was going way up again...and...it's back down. I cannot deny facts/numbers. As a kid on a typical SAD diet (I'm 54) my mom put lots of butter/margarine on my thick peanut butter sandwiches. Her justification was that it helped the inch of peanut butter to not stick to my mouth. LOL! I find food unpalatable without some salt.
Listening AGAIN!!! haha, I will NEVER tire of listening to him! I need to keep drilling into my head his message of just keep eating starch! His words "wet starch" have been a game changer for me. It suddenly made me understand this after years of not really working out the difference! LOVE YOU BOTH SOOOOOO MUCH! My world is changed because of you Chef AJ and DDL!
I think Dr. Lisle has given me the solution as to why I never feel satiated! I’m going to try adding 4oz of tofu or avocado daily and see if that does the trick.
Yes, that happens to me. I can eat a lot of rice, beans and broccoli and never reach satiation. I need more fat and protein. I add that and I'm satiated very quickly.
Dr Lisle said he will occasionally eat a whole bunch of brussel sprouts in a row, like 7 or 8. Ha ha! 7 or 8 sprouts is a whole bunch of food?? He must be a light eater.
Regarding Dr. Greger's video, there may be a connection to the microbiome. The situation was a surrogate mother giving birth to the baby versus the biological mother. Fecal transplants have resulted in obesity being passed on from donor to donee. The birth canal passes the surrogate mother's microbiome onto the baby. This could be the answer to this conundrum.
Well caught! Genetic disposition is one thing and enabling genes via food & other epigenetic are different things. They might work synergistically or one can offset/compensate the other, the latter often for a very long time.
Also, Dr. Greger's response to Rich Roll probably accurately describes why these doctors disagree on topics better than any doctor has ever put it. That interview will explain it to everyone better than anything.
I know this is long over, but I don't think he meant disrespect to Dr. Greger, and I posted a comment on the Nutrition Facts video referenced (also long over) to see if they could review that study. I don't think Dr. Greger meant it as an absolute, just statistically more likely. I heard that episode on his podcast, too. I enjoyed this interview, but saying "fraud" caught me off guard, so it would be worth another glance at that study.
I must be the 1 out of 100 Dr Lyle mentions. I’m 120 pounds and have added a few tbs of nuts or avocado almost daily. I’ve been this weight for many years. I do have extremely high will power though and do stop.
His comments about Dr Greger’s process are so disrespectful. It is not the process described by Dr Greger himself and if he is accusing Dr Greger of a process without knowledge of Dr Greger’s process, it borders on defamation of character and downright dismissive of Dr Greger as a doctor. Not cool at all. I would have rather he talked specifically about the details of the fraud in that study if there really is one.
Not meaning to detract from the loss of your pet - I have also lost a dog that was very precious. But isn’t it tragic that our human relationships are not number one in our lives, and that animals become our best friends and family.
Regarding the cat. I have a friend who said that his friend bought the new pet before his other pet died. On purpose. Pre-bonding before the sadness hit.
When I ate grass fed beef, I was shocked at how many calories a half pound of meat alone was .............and it wasn't that much less than grain fed beef.
I would rather he gave details rather than running Dr Greger’s reputation down. Dr Greger is trying to cover so much information that I am not saying that he might not have missed something but with friends like that who needs enemies?
This also makes sense as to why a lot of anorexics lose their appetite too! I always wondered this! It didn't seem to logically make sense! So great how eating plenty of good wet starches brings the appetite back - ROARING at the start but then it calms down once the body obviously realises it's replenished :-)
@@kristymason7662 think anything that has water added! So instead of dry oats, cooked in water - cooked potatoes, cooked wholegrain pastas, cooked millet/barley/quinoa etc NOT flour products like breads/wraps etc. :-)
I know this is an older video, but I've been going through the back catalogue after listening to chef AJ on Rich Roll, and I feel like this guy is being a little dishonest. So his argument against keto (besides just calling it gross and weird) is that people who go off it are likely to gain weight when they reintroduce carbs, but his advice for the person trying to reintroduce some fats into their low fat diet is to just gradually up the fat content and accept whatever weight gain might come? Isn't that just the same situation in reverse? Both people have eaten themselves into a state where they're intolerant of a macronutrient. Why couldn't that strategy also apply to the person coming off keto? Am I missing something? I'm not a keto bro, but this seems like a willful blind spot in his logic here.
I totally agree with you, he is just one sided with his perception. Fat is the weight gain for wfpb’s Carbs are the weight gain for people doing keto and carnivore. One needs to figure out what feels the best lifestyle for you that is long term . 😋 if you love all foods and need loose weight, then I believe you need to count your calories more strictly.

So, I shouldn't be giving any credence to Dr. Michael Gregor's reports? He only reads abstracts, despite having a staff that is supposed to be doing some of the work? And he's looking for exciting things to report, rather than quality science? I'm shocked. So when he analyses studies in detail he's just getting that from the abstract. I think you are slandering him.
Dr. Greger has described his process in a video on his site and to Rich Roll and he is a science advisor for movies and has testified in court. The concept that he is a con artist just reading abstracts is something that I will need to investigate because now it has come up. But it is not how he represents himself and the fact that I thought these two men were living together and that Dr. Greger is in relationship with the person who usually would have been speaking at the same time.
