I am a 43 year old male. Last year, the day before Thanksgiving, I had to go in for a mammogram as lumps were detected in my breast tissue. As a male this was an experience that I never thought I would experience, but it opened to my eyes to the process that women have to follow each year and the anxiety and concern that comes with completing these exams. My scans were clear, which I am grateful for and the staff was very supportive and kind, which helped to calm my anxiety.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m so glad everything turned out okay for you. I can only imagine the intense anxiety you felt. But you’re helping to remind men that it’s a possibility for them too.
If you don’t mind my asking, do you still have to get checked annually?
I hope you don’t have another scare like that again 🌸

Thank you. I am not sure. My Primary has not mentioned anything about it, but I did get a notice from the breast cancer center that it was time for another visit. I will need to check with my primary.

I am 68 years old and I was diagnosed with breast cancer 12 years ago. It was found by having a mammogram. There is not a day go by that I don’t think about it one way or another. I believe I am alive today because of early detection. I am very happy to say I have remained cancer free.

I was just diagnosed with small lymphocytic lymphoma and leukemia during my last mammogram.
We were checking out a lipoma in my pectoralis major and I noticed a tender Axillary lymph node and so they did an ultrasound of my armpit area. They kept me in the room which they never had before and a Dr came in, he said that it looked like a malignancy, they set up a biopsy of the lymph node and boom, cancer. :((( Definitely get checked every year and don’t forget your armpits.
And Drew, thank you for making The Wedding Singer, my favorite movie of all time, it always cheers me up❤️

Amazing video! I was so scared when I had to start exams in my 40s. The advice of going just after your period is done is soooooo helpful. Less breast pain! Dense breasts also require ultrasound for 100% confirmation and I find those more uncomfortable than the actual pancake squeezer 😂

Knowing one's family history and risk factors is so important. Depending on those, one might have to get tested before one's 40s. Also, not to scare anyone off, but "uncomfortable" is an understatement. Mammograms can be painful, but the pain passes. Pain-wise, I prefer a mammogram over a pap smear any day. Oh, the joy of being a woman and having to go through uncomfortable exams that men don't have to deal with!

Great job Drew! I just went to the doctor after 10 years. I was “forced” as my Thyroid Doc retired and had to go in order to update my script I was on for 2 decades. She guilted me into getting a mammogram and it was painless, quick and efficient. I have dense breast tissues and that just means it’s mostly fat! The worse part of it all was the tech was a girl I went to high school with ……small talk while you’re getting felt up!

So I am a survivor of 13 years. I had to have a bi lateral mastectomy...very involved...not able to have reconstruction at 52. I get my yearly exam...but have never been offered anything other than an ultrasound...no 3d... apparently it is expensive and not covered by insurance. To have the financial means to have a 3D....not many in this country can afford one. Please use your voice to advocate for 3D for all!! My daughter is a scientist....is using her 23 and me results to tell me she only has a 12 % chance of breast cancer. How can I get it through her head to get a screening mammogram? She is 39. Thank you for doing this very important public screening. I love watching your show...we don't agree politically on many issues, but you seem like a genuine person and I respect that.

For all the women thinking about starting hormone replacement, (just a gentle reminder) there’s about .2 % chance of breast cancer due to estrogen hormone. I was 52 when I found my tumor. The biopsy showed tumor consisted of estrogen. It’s called mucinous carcinoma. I had seeked hormone replacement therapy & was prescribed estrogen. I blamed myself for many years since the diagnosis. Moral of the story, if you think mental fogginess is awful part of menopause, it is worst with breast cancer diagnosis 🙏🏻😢

We don't have mammogram machines where I live in Indonesia. They just use ultrasound. I wonder if it is accurate enough. I went a year ago because I had a couple of small lumps and the doctor said he didn't think it was cancer, that maybe we should check again later with a biopsy. It hasn't been followed up yet, I still have the lumps and sometimes I have a lot of pain and discomfort in my breast. It is worrisome.

I wish Breast Cancer would have been a manageable “Chronic Condition” before my mom died of it in 1993.❤With all the billions of dollars being thrown at this disease, I wonder why they haven’t been able to find a cure for it as yet. ❤Prayers to all who have it and hope you live a long and healthy and happy life❤

I was so worried about getting a mammogram and honestly it wasn’t bad at all, def not what I had worked it up to be in my brain. It’s more comical the positions you have to get in to get your boobs to squish in the way they want lol!

I want to scream this far and wide: I have had several mammograms and none of them would I describe as “very uncomfortable”. I watched an Oprah episode years ago, and the women on the show described mammograms as being 8/10 on a pain scale. Ridiculous. Stop scaring people. I have almost zero pain threshold and at worst a mammogram is a 3!

It hurts a whole heck of a lot more than a blood pressure cuff. Either she’s lying, or she’s not doing it correctly.

@@mamawfrancy I also have fibromyalgia so maybe that's why it hurts me so much but yeah, flat chested couldn't be that comfy either haha

They don't allow women to have yearly exams. If you have clean reads then it's every five years. My sister would have died if she didn't insist on one.

Depends where you live. I’ve been going every two years since my late 20s. I am nearly 48 now and I’ve had many mammograms.
