One of the most idiotic comments of all time considering that in the 1980s Mickey Thomas of Jefferson Starship/Starship was hailed by critics as one of the best male vocalists in rock history. I think your generation has a fetish for the word "underrated," as you toss it carelessly around on UA-cam; but one thing is for damned sure: you are so lazy as not to check the more basic facts on questions such as these, as quickly as you are to put your foot in your mouth to titillate your tonsils.
@@spirituallotus2628 If you agree, you are guilty of the same idiocy. Check the facts first before you agree that such a highly critically acclaimed vocalist is "underrated."
Mickey is one of the top vocalist ever. I saw him whenever, wherever I could in the early 90's. He played in Florida on the beach July 4th and he was just incredible.
One of the BEST SONGS ever written, sung by one of the BEST SINGERS ever!!! It’s just does not get much better than this. 50 years on, this still brings me joy.
wanda James I'm certainly aware it's 20 plus yrs ago. However, you can also look up more recent concerts, shows or whatever and hear that his voice is pretty much the same. He's looking a little old now but I think he's pushing 70. 😁🙄
Top 5 RnR male voices ever. And if you are filling Elvin's shoes on guitar, THAT boys and girls is how to play that solo. Freakin' awesome job by Jeff Tamelier.
To date, since Elvin's hit went to #3 on the chart in '76, I have not heard anyone match or even come close to Bishop's blues guitar solo in his original hit release. Maybe Eric Clapton, or Blues greats BB or Freddie King can do him justice,... and there are scores of great guitarists that may try, but I think Elvin still wears this crown, IMHO.
Elvin Bishop shout-out! Thanks Rev. Mickey! Always great voc. Really one of the great, underrated American pop and (especially) white blues/R&B singers. ."hack...hack.. couughhph...hack..cough ..... Love!" Classic!
a great singer..and yes he was the singer on the original. "we built this city' not withstanding, he did some great stuff with Starship. "Jane" has some startlingly powerful vocals, just as an example, Still could have done without built this city though, lol
This performance is only 20 years after the song was originally released as a single ... but it's now 27 years since this was filmed! Where do the years go?
You're as good now as you were then!!! It was OUT OF THIS WORLD FABULOUS seeing you in Cheyenne WY in 2003!! From Cairo and NW Atlanta to Cheyenne WY, who'da thunk it!!?? Great memories!! RIP Jimmy Whiddon
His 1776 version on TV featuring Lani Slain as his harmony singer was the greatest version of this "true story" song for a lot of us old farts from the 70's!!!!
One of the most underrated male voices of all time. Soulful with amazing range!
Totally agree.
