Elvin Bishop was the guitarist in this band. The lead vocalist, Mickey Thomas, is one of the great, underrated vocalists of his time. If you want to hear how awesome he was as a singer, react to "Jane" by Jefferson Starship.

Hi Britt, Back in the day, singers & groups had to perform "LIVE" on The Midnight Special and this showed the world whether you were good or not; there was no lip-syncing or hiding behind your studio recordings and definitely no auto-tune!!! Needless to say, if you performed well on the show your record sales would skyrocket; but if you performed poorly your record sales would tank!!! In other words they had to deliver the goods!!! Thanks for this reaction too, because as you can see & hear Elvin Bishop & his band did their thing!!!

Elvin Bishop Band ,he is the guitar lead you see. He wrote Fooled Around and Fell in Love. Bishop ; feeling that his gravelly voice wouldn't do the song justice, invited Mickey Thomas, ,a background singer in his band to sing it. Mickey Thomas still sings this song in every Starship concert and still sounds this good I am told, the pride of Cairo, Georgia. Reni Slais is the Rainbow girl who punches it up. Southern Rock had its zenith 70s-80s Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc. If you want to continue this groove Marshall Tucker Band "Can't You See". Love your bright , insightful and upbeat reactions.

I interviewed Ozzy Osbourne in a Hollywood bistro in 1979. After, we waited at the curb, for our ride back to the record company. While waiting, Ozzy spontaneously burst into singing, “I must’ve been through about a million girls…” I cracked up and asked if he was an Elvin Bishop fan and he just shrugged, “Who’s that?” Anyway… I may be the only one in the world who has heard Ozzy sing this song.

Mickey Thomas was the most underrated singer of all time as Elvin Bishop was one of the most underrated guitar players ever.... Whenever I hear this it brings back bittersweet memories of my first love in 1975 .... sadly she is gone as is our youth but this brings it back even if only for a short time....

Great reaction Britt! I got a couple of 70's classics for you - A Love of Your Own by The Average White Band (Live at Montreux 1977) and She's Gone by Hall & Oates!

Back in the 70’s the was a music style called “Blue-eyed Soul.” Music that was a cross between pop, rock and soul music was strong in the 70s. It started with the Righteous Brothers in the sixties. But, Hall & Oates were the Kings of “Blue-eyed Soul” from the 70s-90s. I FOOLED AROUND AND FELL IN LOVE and others like BABY COME BACK by, Player; YOU’RE THE BIGGEST PART OF ME by, Ambrosia; I’M NOT IN LOVE by 10cc; even I CAN DREAM ABOUT YOU by Dan Hartman in 1984 are other examples of the enjoyable “Blue-eyed Soul” music.

This is the best live performance of this song. The studio version, however, is superior. It's more polished as most studio versions are.
