Elvin Bishop was the guitarist in this band. The lead vocalist, Mickey Thomas, is one of the great, underrated vocalists of his time. If you want to hear how awesome he was as a singer, react to "Jane" by Jefferson Starship.

Hi Britt, Back in the day, singers & groups had to perform "LIVE" on The Midnight Special and this showed the world whether you were good or not; there was no lip-syncing or hiding behind your studio recordings and definitely no auto-tune!!! Needless to say, if you performed well on the show your record sales would skyrocket; but if you performed poorly your record sales would tank!!! In other words they had to deliver the goods!!! Thanks for this reaction too, because as you can see & hear Elvin Bishop & his band did their thing!!!

Elvin Bishop Band ,he is the guitar lead you see. He wrote Fooled Around and Fell in Love. Bishop ; feeling that his gravelly voice wouldn't do the song justice, invited Mickey Thomas, ,a background singer in his band to sing it. Mickey Thomas still sings this song in every Starship concert and still sounds this good I am told, the pride of Cairo, Georgia. Reni Slais is the Rainbow girl who punches it up. Southern Rock had its zenith 70s-80s Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc. If you want to continue this groove Marshall Tucker Band "Can't You See". Love your bright , insightful and upbeat reactions.

"Fooled Around and Fell in Love" is a song written and performed by blues guitarist Elvin Bishop with Mickey Thomas on lead vocals. Of Starship. I saw him at Disney every year with Starship. He was much older and hit every single note. You should look up from his stuff from Starship.

Just recently discovered your channel and I love it!
This makes me think of when I worked in a store just after high school. This song was constantly on the store radio. I was seeing someone. Cindy was seeing someone. One day the song came on. She looked at me and i looked at her. Then we fooled around and fell in love.
    Happy memories.

Elvin and MIckey hit the mark on this. Mickey is one of the greatest voices in rock. He started in the 1970's with Jefferson Starship and Grace Slick. You can't forget Mickey's voice on this. It's so perfect. PS. The guitar player is Elvin Bishop, and he wrote the song. Mickey Thomas was one of his backup singers and Elvin knew Mickey would do this so much better than he could. Also, you are right. This is the perfect song for riding your bike on a warm day with the radio playing it in your bike basket. That just captures the 1970's so well. In the late 1960's we all had our little radios playing music wherever we went. No internet to distract us from living every day in the moment. It was a great time, and this is one of the best songs of that era. Look up Wings of Pegasus analysis of this song. Fil is really nice and he gives a great review.

Mickey Thomas was the most underrated singer of all time as Elvin Bishop was one of the most underrated guitar players ever.... Whenever I hear this it brings back bittersweet memories of my first love in 1975 .... sadly she is gone as is our youth but this brings it back even if only for a short time....

I found you by accident, and am now subscribed. I was reminiscing about my teenage years and looked up this song. I was in High School, and yes, the 70's were an amazing time to come of age. Thank You for putting a grin on an Old Man's face with your appreciation for our generation's music. And like someone else commented, please check out "Jane" by Jefferson Starship. You will like it. We had AMAZING music crossing many genres. R&B, Soul, Jazz, Rock, there was always a great song to listen to. Again, Thank You.
