Elvin Bishop was the guitarist in this band. The lead vocalist, Mickey Thomas, is one of the great, underrated vocalists of his time. If you want to hear how awesome he was as a singer, react to "Jane" by Jefferson Starship.

Hi Britt, Back in the day, singers & groups had to perform "LIVE" on The Midnight Special and this showed the world whether you were good or not; there was no lip-syncing or hiding behind your studio recordings and definitely no auto-tune!!! Needless to say, if you performed well on the show your record sales would skyrocket; but if you performed poorly your record sales would tank!!! In other words they had to deliver the goods!!! Thanks for this reaction too, because as you can see & hear Elvin Bishop & his band did their thing!!!

Elvin Bishop Band ,he is the guitar lead you see. He wrote Fooled Around and Fell in Love. Bishop ; feeling that his gravelly voice wouldn't do the song justice, invited Mickey Thomas, ,a background singer in his band to sing it. Mickey Thomas still sings this song in every Starship concert and still sounds this good I am told, the pride of Cairo, Georgia. Reni Slais is the Rainbow girl who punches it up. Southern Rock had its zenith 70s-80s Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc. If you want to continue this groove Marshall Tucker Band "Can't You See". Love your bright , insightful and upbeat reactions.

The 70's were a special time for music. Musicians played their own instruments, & wrote most of their own music. Vocals were sung without the aid of auto tune. We had vinyl, 8-tracks, & cassettes. I largely grew up in Augusta. There was a Mexican restaurant called Sancho's Taco on the south side, off of the Gordon Highway, that we would go to. We would get a pitcher of ice cold beer, which was served in a glass pitcher & heavy glass beer mugs to go with our tacos. (By the way, the legal age back then was 18. In high school, the students were permitted to smoke outside of the building.) Sancho's had a Wurlitzer juke box, & Fooled Around & Fell In Love was on it. We played it every time we stopped in. Good times & good memories of an era now long past.

"Fooled Around and Fell in Love" is a song written and performed by blues guitarist Elvin Bishop with Mickey Thomas on lead vocals. Of Starship. I saw him at Disney every year with Starship. He was much older and hit every single note. You should look up from his stuff from Starship.

Britt, WHAT A REACTION TO THIS SONG! You were all the way invested in this song! I LOVE IT! I also love the fact that you are a true music connoisseur! Talking about the brakes where the drums came in. You pay a lot of attention to ALL the little details. Others may notice, but you speak right up to them. How refreshing to find others like myself that are into the ENTIRITY of the song. YOU FLAT OUT ROCK, YOUNG LADY! Keep them good vibes coming!

Elvin Bishop is the guitarist and Mickey Thompson is the lead singer and yes, he was a gospel singer in his youth. Mickey went on to sing for Jefferson Starship / Starship.

Just recently discovered your channel and I love it!
This makes me think of when I worked in a store just after high school. This song was constantly on the store radio. I was seeing someone. Cindy was seeing someone. One day the song came on. She looked at me and i looked at her. Then we fooled around and fell in love.
    Happy memories.

This song is like a perfect composition. It's so well done.
I agree with you that 70s music is great. Technically, I'd probably start collecting songs around 1967 and might pick some from just over the line into the 80s, but yeah ... the 70s would be my sweet spot. :)

I was a kid and a young teen in the 70s and it’s my favourite era of music! I wish so much we had this kind of amazing music around today. I walk around in stores & hear the music or hear it on the radio and most of it I find so boring and numbing. This song was amazing and he has an amazing voice
