    The venue usually turns the lights on because they have a dinner course coming out. We are family is a banger I play at every wedding usually in the last 15 minutes of the event before it ends.

    For me, great transitions are just gold...the cleverness of the combinations, then actually executing them well...really, really nice. I was proud of some of mine this weekend and got some compliments from guests. One I really liked was Boogie Shoes into Locomotion (the old one). My clients this weekend were HUGE on country music...like heavy country...Hank Williams, Jr. The grand entrance song was "All My Rowdy Friends". Lots of George Jones on the must play list.

    Just did a wedding where the dancefloor was popping all night, but constantly was nagged at by the couples friends that i wasnt playing the full songs. I would play intro, verse chorus maybe bridge to chorus or the iconic part to mix into next song. Ex.-chaka khan-pump up the jam-everybody dance now-big butts-etc. Obviously you cant fit all songs into a wedding, much less have people dance to the full versions. Never got a thank you from the couple but all the staff and guests were very impressed. Cant win them all I guess.

    • @KholdPhuzion
      @KholdPhuzion 2 роки тому

      But songs like come on Eileen or sweet Caroline obviously you play the whole song lol

      I know so many DJ's swear by speed mixing, and I do it as often as I can, but I'm mindful that some guests do indeed hate this, especially if they're singing the lyrics. I just recently had a client say she was at a wedding and didn't like it. After I explained why it's done it made sense to her. I try not to speed mix on VIP requests. But yeah...I've backed out of transitions many times when I saw they were singing lyrics, or if VIPs were fully engaged on the song.

      @@donnycollins1797 I think the key here is watching the crowd. If they’re singing out the lyrics and it looks like an anthem..keep it on

    I'm doing more scratching...mostly baby scratch intros or transitions. But, it's just enough that people think you really know what you're doing. I think people recognize that you're doing more than just pressing play when you do that. The coordinator at my last wedding stood by me a lot during the reception and I think she really liked seeing me doing that. I love Night Fever...one of my favorites....oh hell that's a good mix into We Are Family.

    Great ideas on the transitions; I actually do a lot of similar combinations. The only one I wasn’t feeling but totally understand why you did it (similar drums) was lip gloss (96) to holla back (110). Holla back just come in super slow. Great work!

    Yeah...sucky requests from the VIPs are the freakin worst...cause you kind of have to do them. Same if their playlist sucks...and you have 30 crappy must plays...that is tough as hell. I had an event where the guests kept asking me "what is the crap you're playing?" and I was like "it's the grooms must play list!" I then sandwiched MORE guests request in between the grooms requests and I managed to check all the boxes...sheeze! That was also the same gig I left my hard drive at home and did the whole freakin' gig tethered to my cell phone......😖! But I pulled it the %^&$ off and it actually went pretty damn good.

    Here's my problem lately: I'm in southeast Georgia and ceremonies have been outside at 4-5 PM with 105 degree heat index. I think people know it's hot as $#*& and just don't go. My last two events the guest counts have been way lower than expected. Then the ones who are there are just drained after sitting in that heat, even for just the ceremony. Ceremony is done by 5:30 at the very latest, it's bright and hot as hell outside, people are then just lazy as hell at the reception and don't dance until it gets dark outside at 9 PM. I really wish they'd schedule the ceremonies for sunset or a little before, like 7 PM, when it's cooler, then have a big meal at a good time, then dance at a good time. My 2 cents...

    • @toneranger
      @toneranger 2 роки тому

      Agree I'm in a hot climate and it's hell, even with ceremonies at 4pm for 30 minutes is a killer, at least have a casual dress code for the guests. The problem is if you have it at 7pm it's too dark to do couple fotos afterwards.
