  • I have had this Energica Experia on loan from English Electric Motor Co. for a week or so, to make videos and a review on. There is A LOT to cover on this bike and if I did it all in full detail in one video it would be way too long. This is the final review, if you want a much more in-depth test and info watch my series of videos on this machine. Electric touring is still not ideal but this bike makes it possible in a much better way than I have ever seen before!
    Big thanks to English Electric Motor Co. for the loan of this machine! www.englishelectricmotorco.com/

    It’s crazy how far these electric motorbikes have come. I genuinely love the idea of this bike.

      @@spicy110 one of the perks of motorbikes is torque and these electric ones have that in abundance. What’s not to like? Guess it’s the whole “old thing good, new thing bad” 🤦‍♂️

  • @HomoKieran
    @HomoKieran Рік тому +6

    As I've said in a previous comment, torque is almost always higher at the wheel (Energica do also say in the spec sheet that the higher number is at the wheel). You have a gear reduction from the motor to the wheel, for example Zero's are around 1:5 and the Experia is 1:7.8 because there's an additional gearbox as part of the motor. Gas bikes are also the same except they have multiple ratios in their gearboxes, and you'll actually find that some of the more powerful bikes have even more torque at the rear wheel in first gear than many electric bikes. It's why you can't just look at a Zero with over 100Nm of motor torque and assume it's more torquey than say a Z900 with just under 100Nm. Kawasaki actually list all their gear ratios and if I'm doing the math correct it's 1:5 in 6th gear, so that's about where the torque at the wheel is going to match up.
    The difference with electric bikes is the torque curve, you don't have to wait for it to build like a gas bike and you pretty much have it all available from a stop and then it starts to taper off as you get high into the rev range. So in certain situations, if the gas bike's engine is low in the rev range and in a higher than ideal gear then the electric bike is going to have more immediate acceleration. And that's why I love EVs, it feels more direct and the bike does what you tell it instantly instead of feeling like you're making a suggestion and waiting for the bike to catch up.

      Dead right. A 600 sports bike is a great, relatively extreme example. Fantastic rear wheel torque from a pathetic crankshaft torque.... At the right rpm.
      One could take things further and say that the final comparison needs to take the wheel diameter into account, or more specifically the rolling radius. The force that shoves you forward is linear. Torque is a multiplication of a tangential force multiplied by the radius, so to resolve it into the final tangential force pushing you forward you'd need to know the rolling radius of the rear wheel.
      👍

    That price bracket is, I assume, GS territory but the package is perhaps GS comparative. I would never spend that on a car let alone a bike but I can see people less afflicted with “tightwadishness” than myself forming an orderly queue. Nice to see the worthy English Electric brand being associated with a quality product once again. ❤

    I took an Experia for a test ride a few months back and was seriously impressed. So much so that watching your review has just validated everything I discovered about it. At 6”6 I also enjoyed the comfort level, room and shear ease of how this bike performed.
    Only thing is now I want one and at $47,000 AU I’ve got some serious saving to do.

    I have been binge watching many of your videos. I haven't been on a motorcycle since the 80's. Back then i was riding a GP100 then moved onto a GSX 250. As i am now in my mid 50's, i felt i needed some information and refresh of motorcycles before i took the plunge and bought one. Your videos are absolutely on point, so in-depth and informative. Love how you take the time to explain and advise new and experienced riders alike. You have gained another subscriber as you are now my go to creator. Keep up the great work!

    Great set of videos on this bike but I feel it needs loading up with kit and taking it on a tour. Real world test would be awesome. Knowing where all the local charges are or taking it home to charge doesn't really show what it'll be like to use on a full tour.

    I purchased a 2017 Zero DSR with a level 2 charge tank. LOVED riding it, but found out the realities of using public charge stations here in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Shared power, out-of-service chargers, etc. I am a one-at-a-time bike owner, so I've never had multiple bikes, not even during my motocross, desert, and road racing days. I anxiously awaited both the DSR/X and Energica Experia, with the thought that I would buy one of those. DC to DC charging systems here (other than Tesla Superchargers) are also spotty in terms of what I describe above for level 2. This Energica can only charge at 3kW on level 2, my Zero charged at 6.3 kW. When I compared the features of both the Experia and the DSR/X compared to the Ducati Multistrada V4S Sport there was no question. Just the Skyhook electronic suspension was enough to convince me, not to mention so many of the other useful features. And the MSV4S is comparable in price. My Duck just had her first birthday and I could not be more pleased with my choice. I'd return to EVs but only if the features I now enjoy were available on two-wheel EVs.

      Yer the US has a size issue your massive, that is not a problem in the UK, being so small we have more EV charging points than we know what to do with. But you also have the issue of broken chargers so it's not perfect yet but it time it will be much better, but as I say we are small its easy. Will take a lot more time over your way. 🙂👍

    unless it gets hot, or even if it does get hot, stashing a snack, say a pasty, in that "frunk" could be a game changer.
    How much does it cost to charge overnight Vs. charging at a station somewhere else?

  • @JS-nf1sn
    @JS-nf1sn 10 місяців тому

    The bike is awesome. Get a fast charger at your house and you'll be good to go. People talk bad about EV charging networks, but anywhere is the world that can power a clothes dryer can be rigged for a fairly fast EV charger; try getting a gas station at your house. Electricity is available at more places than there are gas stations.

    I am all for electric motorcycles .They have a place and the peformance of this is on par with my BMW 800 even the range is simular (full tank vs full battery .The elephant in the room for me is that second hand I paid £1700 for the Beemer and I dont think that one of these are available used ,even in the future ,will ever be available for that kind of price. Hence out of the reach of most working people.

    It sounds like a brilliant bike / experience, I love it & have nothing bad to say about it but how can an electric motorcycle cost more than a lot of electric cars??
    Electric bikes could be fantastic but they have GOT to address the cost!!

    • @HomoKieran
      @HomoKieran Рік тому +2

      I don't know if you'll find many new electric cars for cheaper (actual cars, not stuff like the Citroen Ami), and the ones that are like the Fiat 500 and VW Up aren't actually far off the Experia in terms of power and battery capacity. There are some like the Nissan Leaf that have a fair bit more power and capacity, but still low for an electric car. With the bike not only are you paying for the performance (you get more for the same power and capacity) but you're also comparing a bike hand made in Italy by a relatively small manufacturer to mass produced cars.

    • @simongoode7812
      @simongoode7812 Рік тому

      @@HomoKieran It's a fair point but a bike has nowhere near the material costs / requirements as a car. I'm not being argumentative & I get your point but I'm sure you see what I mean?! 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @HomoKieran
      @HomoKieran Рік тому +2

      @@simongoode7812 No I get that, but it's not as simple as just taking into account the material costs. No product is like that. Just take a look at Chinese bikes, even the decently put together ones are cheaper than their European competitors because labour and materials are cheaper over there.

    Out of curiosity (and with the usual caveats of local taxes etc) I looked at a price comparison of the Experia and GBP conversions are:
    Blighty: £27,790
    US: £20,340
    India: £17,669
    Are we being ripped off or has someone decided this is what our market can stand?
