      @@NOV123 Absolutely, Grace and the Marvellettes. They produced the very 1st number one hit for Motown. (Please Mr Postman) The continued with Big Hits like "Don't mess with Bill" and "Anytime the Hunter Gets Captured by the Game." The had a few changes of members due to pregnancies and illnesses but they kept working in the studio. Motown later dumped the Marvellettes and didn't even tell them that their services were no longer preferred. Many of these women had issues with Gordy and Motown but must admit that if it wasn't for Berry and the success of Motown none of them would have been working in the field of their choosing. Notice how Raye got shafted by Berry but she would admit that she could have been doing something worse like selling her body on the streets! Amazing stories bit we all know that these record companies are frickin rip offs.

    • @cantkeepmedown100
      @cantkeepmedown100 4 роки тому +2

      Mrs Jones the lead singer of the group was a young lady named Carolyn (she has a very distinct sound) and they changed members throughout their tenure. Betty Kelly from Martha Reeves and the Vandellas was also a member. Their big hit was a Needle in the Haystack (you can check out a live performance on UA-cam when they were on a dance show in the 1960s). They stood out from the rest of the girl groups at Motown because they still attended high school and held down part time jobs while being recording artists whereas the other Motown girl groups were devoted to Motown on a full time basis.

      @@Gr8LilLady Their signature hit (and it wasn't a monster hit but did respectably well in certain areas) was "Needle in a Haystack". It was on the V.I.P. subsidiary label of Motown. They may have dented the charts with another single "A Bird in the Hand (Is Worth Two in the Bush") but much of their material was not up to the standard of most of the classic Motown hits and the hooks weren't as strong. They were, I believe, a sister group. I saw them live once here in L.A. and they are gorgeous ladies, polished, and lots of fun on stage. Too bad they didn't find their own H-D-H; I think if Berry had given them more attention and promotion muscle they could've gone as far as other Motown artists. If you liked the sound of "Where Did Our Love Go" you will enjoy "Needle in a Haystack".

Folks wrote off Martha Reeves as a nutcase (including some of those she mentions here) yet she clearly shows her deep intelligence/loyalty in mentioning "prayer" when she goes into the shock of some of her co-label mates having had recently passed on. Deep. She is a great person. Syreeta Wright summed it all up well, very wholesome just like she sounds.

    The truth will set you free should be the title of this video!!! It goes to show how wonderful women were but used for men to get what they have and always gotten credit for? Many of these women seem that they sang about their lives and many people then and now still have and had a problem with the truth which is something women are wonderful for breaking barriers with which is the courage women are still doing things and will for their children. It is quite amazing but we are coming around women, but we still got a long way to go beginning with women supporting women! The truth will set you free but otherworldly ideology has its own agenda! This also is amazing how a Puerto Rican man to have a show honoring women something not too many of our own men ever did, yes they used them to make money but they never got the props they really and earnestly deserved! Those songs were and still are amazing songs with true stories that still right now today hold to be true. Men always get credit for things when without women would be nothing! Together they can break all kinds of barriers and when women support one another big things happen!

I guess you either didn't know or either forgot or didn't remember that Diana was still climbing out of the mess brought on by a certain bandmate I will not name ,and as a professional move to protect herself from further damage would be better to give space between herself and tthem, and I would not at all blame Diana for doing so .

Remember there was a time whatever Diana did as far as trying to tell her part she was being attacted .and you think about it. Who wants to go in the lions den only to keep being attacted. Diana has been interviewed giving her side of the story only to fall on deaf ears it seem. She only human as we all are and I noticed diana after being interviewed left whatever that was going on between them as positive as she could. I always felt Diana could have said more damning info then she let on . Diana had the weight of Motown on her shoulders and she carried that weight for many , many years and because of her obligation as a figure head at Motown maybe she couldn't or chose not to respond to things she may even wanted to go after. We'll never really know . Did you know for example Mary Wilson and Diana was on the phone for hours like sisters who hadn't talked or seen each other in years just days before Msry Wilson died , according to Mary's eldest daughter reported all while people was hating on diana. Again so we cannot nor should people get all tied up in knots. And in Diana's defence I have heard Diana say it's the media that's making us seem like we're at odds with one another.

      Racism is not a card. Phil Spector dated Ronnie Spector, but it's not constantly brought up as part of his legacy. Motown artists were shot at in the south. Gordy couldn't get a hotel room in Tennessee while doing record business. The Geraldo show had an hour and some of the questions and comments were ridiculous. Motown had 110 top ten hits from 1961 to 1971 alone! But if you choose to think the inequality in this country is a card game go ahead.

    2/27/21 - Well, well, well... Frankly, after watching this entire episode of Geraldo, what I found more interesting though were the commercials not Geraldo & things have not changed much today February 27, 2021:
    1) Sale prices for men's clothing about the same 2 shirts for $14.99
    2) Orange juice (OJ) commercial with blonde kid asking his mom (Nicole look-alike) and his little friends for some OJ while looking in the fridge - those ads disappeared after the OJ Simpson's case. It's a teeny tiny stretch, but in essence you may surmise that OJ had something to do with its (orange juice ads) disappearance 😂.
    3) 51:01 - Gov. Mario Cuomo (father of current-in-hot-water Gov. of New York Andrew Cuomo) ran an ad for his re-election. He served 3 terms (12 years total). Ironically, the current Gov. Cuomo is in his 3rd year which ends in 2022. Re-election is quite doubtful. Well, at least we can say he and hia dad equally served 3 terms!
    4) There's news of weather disaster in the South just as we currently have news of weather disaster in Texas.
    5) 39:49 - Geraldo straddled his leg up on the rail exposing his crotch directly towards the Women of Motown (such disrespect) is not any different than the harassment of the #metoo & cancel culture that women & Trump experienced in the last 4 years 😂.
    6) 11:07 - Producer Gordy pimped his wife out to prostitution....kinda like Epstein exploiting teenage girls.
    7) Transparency for AIDS patient records to employers to contain spread of toxic fluids or is it a violation of human rights in the 90's .....as in Transparency of Ellen's working memos in a toxic environment as she violates human rights of her employees as seen last couple of years.
