Martha can go on and on and you never tire from hearing these wonderful stories. She is sharp as a tack. The joy on her face when she tells them is simply priceless.
Martha is actually the best Motown storyteller to me.. because hers is a story of triumph. It's not basically negative...she sees the great meaning of Motown and for it's artists.
This interview is AMAZING. I had never heard Martha Reeves speak before and I'm so impressed with her intelligence and poise. She reveals so much about her career and happily takes us back to the 60's. I wish other artists could be so open and honest. I clung to every word here and didn't want her to stop.
All of these years we've been listening to Mary Wilson when someone should've asked Martha!! you can tell she is speaking the truth, no games, no lies, no agendas..
Freddy Gorman did not write Please Mr Postman . he appropriated the song the late Georgia Dobbins along with her piano player William Garrett wrote the song otherwise she is fascinating .
Ms. Martha gives the BEST Motown interviews BY FAR! Her attention to detail of memories from the early 60’s is mesmerizing. She paints the picture in a way that makes you feel you were there. Thank you for your contribution to music and helping to break down barriers Ms Reeves! ❤️❤️❤️
Martha Reeves IS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE MAJOR ARTIST THERE ON THE GORDY LABLE. @ND Is the tapestry of American Music . For sure a Icon and LegenD. It's so refreshing to see and hear the story and her story of the one if the BEST R&B & BLACK LABELS OF AMERICA! 🌀 🔺 M O T O W N 🔹
I LOVES ME SOME Martha Reeves and she's always been the best looking ladies of Motown! My favorites are DANCING IN THE STREET, NOWHERE TO RUN, NO ONE THERE and LOVE GUESS WHO. I just wish her voice was as good as it was in the 60's or at least how it was on her Arista LP "The Rest Of My Life"! Just some mighty good singing! I'm grateful that I can look up her old performances on UA-cam.
Geat interview! Thanks Martha for all the history. ❤ I Love Martha & the vandellas and the fabulous Marvettes..Your songs do make us get up and move; even in 2021....so sad that they could not have been given the same attention as the Supremes. Surely they could have been given small roles in Diana's movies. But NO... they were abandoned to sink into oblivion.. Motown music ....Funk Bros.. Dozier/Holland team and all involved were the greatest ever and should all be recognized as such and ALL should be multi millionaires like BERRY, SMOKY & DIANA.. Rant Over...I love Motown..
What a legend💐 I’m so glad I discovered this interview. All of the artists that have their heart and soul to Motown deserve to be multi millionaires. The are the Motown sound and will continue to be forever. The were all cheated😞 I bow to them. Thank you Martha💕
Great interview. Love the way the interviewer sounds so casual and not formal or fussy in the least. Many fans probably would say "Dancing in the Streets" (I always hated the rock remake of that one) was her greatest vocal but I've always felt it was "Heat Wave". She really tore it up on that one! I have a wonderful 2-CD copy of their greatest singles 1962-1972. Some of the lesser known cuts are still my favorites. The track "(We've Got) Honey Love" should've been a Top 10 in my opinion. As for "Live Wire" that could perfectly describe the lady herself!
That anger aggression on that second take is exactly what pulls us to our feet and forces our laughter and dance while hearing you Martha. Thank you very much.
Thank you, Martha! I used to sneak into the 20 Grand when I was a teenager. I saw the Dells and the Funk Brothers played for them. They turned it out. By this time (the late 60s/earlly 70s) Martha was a star and the 20 Grand was on its last legs. Thank you for these stories. Martha and the Vandellas was the best female group at Motown bar none. No other girl group could out sing them. I like all the other female groups at Motown, but no other female group had chops like M and V.
Wow! Martha Reeves is beautiful! And her voice sounds deeper and richer and more finely tuned! Wonderful! What personality!!!! She must be one of the most interesting and amazing people in the Universe!!! She's an enchanting storyteller! OMG! I'm so glad and grateful to Ms Reeves! Thank you, Ms Reeves!!!
Awesome interview, she has so much history of the company and the artist. If she hasn't already she could write a couple of books with all the knowledge she has of Motown.
It was so wonderful to hear Ms Martha Speak. I enjoyed listening to her in 60's 1960---I were 10years old. I am traveling through the 60's. I heard terrific music at 10-19 years old. Elementary-High School. How amazing hearing Motown sounds!!! Hearing about Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Temptations, Barry White, Ice Man Mr. Jerry Butler, Marvelettes, So many Groups. Gladys Knight and the Pips, Marvin Gay, Four Tops,Stevie Wonder. Right now I'm just naming other people that was with Mr. Berry Gordy or group probably wasn't with Motown. Down through the years Great Music 🎶 🎵 a lot of them grew old and died but their songs are in the Hearts 💕 💞 of Many. RIP!!!
What a Fun (but not so fun) fact about “how I wish it would rain” that’s why I feel so connected to that song. It was REAL.. and had an eery feeling. The way David sang it nailed the emotion of it. This is my first time hearing Martha speak, I love her dearly after this.
The old school Martha and The Vandellas greatest hits album from the 1960's is the one to put on if you want to really start the party!!! Just watch everyone start moving and grooving! "😁"
FINALLY !! Someone that can give me REAL TALK and tell it like it is / was ! I be wanting the same from my sports folks . Don’t skirt around the issues . Just like the CLASS and DANCE instructors that teachers that MARTHA had, she needs to give instructions on how to give transparent interviews . I love this legend .
Martha said something in this interview which is so true and that's how they were trained from elegance to stage performance and the ability to read music 🎵 95 percent of today's singers can't read music no wonder Motown artists were so successful
Martha and the Vandellas was a good and amazing group, as well as the Supremes. The Supremes became bigger, I think because of being known better internationally! But Martha Reeves, had a unique voice that commanded attention! And her background singers were equally as good!
I was born in the 90s and surprisingly I love Motown and the golden oldies. I could listen to Martha for hours and hours talking about her time in the little Motown studio house working with some of the biggest musical icons alongside herself. Wish more of this generation would listen to what I’d interpret as real music by true musical artists.
Wow what a great interview, she's as sharp as a knife and wise as an owl, and some wonderful stories and facts, when she mentioned the Shangri Las's i checked them out and found that Billy Joel played piano on The Leader of the Pack and he was only 16 years old.
Has the high blood pressure got a hold on me or is this the way love's supposed to be. I'm in heat heeeey! Burning in my soul .. It's like in heat heeeey
Loll yesss " Mickey Mouse where areee you?!! You know that Mighty Mouse is on his Wayyyy!!! " Lolll Martha did that lolll it's been years since I heard that 💞 😁 18:35
I lot of Motown artist was cheated out of Royalties bad. But the music business is low down. Many artist have been beaten out million. It's a good thing these artist can tour years after their record deals are gone.
Martha can go on and on and you never tire from hearing these wonderful stories. She is sharp as a tack. The joy on her face when she tells them is simply priceless.
I love Martha & the Vandellas songs, they were good!
We should give her flowers while she still here 💐💐

Wow what a sweet lady. Very smart and well spoken too.
One of the greatest and most underated Motown artists. Martha and the Vandellas gave Motown some of their greatest hits!!!!
Agreed! I loved them and they were before my time.
UNDERRATED?!?!,! U gotta be kidding
I agree. The Vandellas and the Marvelettes were unfortunately overshadowed by the Supremes.
@@msrain1235 they gave Motown three of their five greatest hits...

I've watched the movie about the Temptations that told the same story about the genius of Berry Gordy. Didn't know about Micky.

She looks great, sounds great. It must be the music that's keeping her youthful.
She does and also is a great community leader in Detroit. Having served in the City Council.
I love Martha n the Vandellers. History to remember
Five stars for this interview
Wow Ms Martha Reeves could sit there and sing without any instruments at all and it would entertain.

What a beautiful story teller.
A marvelous interview, I've always loved Martha and love her historical perspectives. One of the true greats!
Apparently Berry Gordy also had the knack of knowing who to rip off too.
he was a greedy mutha...
Motown contracts were the norm of the industry however Motown controlled the artists whole career.

It is such a shame, that everybody knows the big star Diana Ross and this blessed, talented Lady is not that famous...
She's a true Detroiter. In recent years she sat on the city council so she shifted from entertainment to government and then back to entertainment.
