    Straight from the box, there's practically two adjustments to make. Go into settings to make an adjustment in the EXP settings, and adjust the gimbel movement speed.
    That smooths the yaw and the gimbel movement to eliminate the jerking you see in the video, compared straight out of the box.
    Someone had posted a UA-cam video demonstrating how to make those adjustments.

    I've been looking for a review of the v3 and you delivered! Thank you a bunch! Out of curiousity, what are your thoughts of this drone as it relates to the Mavic 3? I currently own an M3 but the one thing that's been bothering me is the M3's 4:3 aspect ratio. I always have to crop to 3:2 which means I'm effectively lowering the megapixels - always. And I do this because I only fly drones for photography. With that said, I prefer to compose my shots in 3:2 as well as maintain the true 20 megapixels - which the V3 would. But I also want to make sure the reliability is there. Thoughts?

      Pound-for-pound the EVO II V3 is one of the most powerful drones I've ever used. Now, the caveat here is I usually shoot in 16:9 aspect ratio and I stay within that 99% of the time, so I don't have a lot of experience use the 4:3 ratio and playing in that area with it. However, I'll stake my reputation on the performance of the EVO II V3. It is ultra-dependable and is one of the smoothest drones I've flown in a long time. If you're thinking about replacing the M3 with the EVO II V3, I'd encourage you to explore that idea with the knowledge that you won't be disappointed by the EVO II V3. It's one of the best.

    Hey Mr. Drone Geek: I have the 4-battery charger that I used to charge my V2 controller (RX). Will it be OK to use it to charge the controller with that same charger? Or is there a different in voltage? The aircraft batteries appear to be the same for the V2 and V3, so I presume no problem there?

    Great review!!! Currently own one of their very old XSP drones and it's been great....as has their customer service...except that replacement batteries aren't available anymore. So, I'm looking at a replacement drone now and this review is very helpful!! I do have a couple questions I hope you can answer.....so thanks in advance!
    Isn't there an adjustment for the yaw sensitivity in the settings menu? Are there aftermarket gimbal covers that may be a better option? Any rumors on an EVO III?

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the comment and the kind words on the review!
      As for the questions you have -- most drones have the ability to adjust rates and sensitivity in their menu. This is possible within the app for the EVO II V3, but was not covered in this video. Right out of the box, I felt the yaw was too sensitive, so I wanted to make a note on that, but largely this is a non-issue because if you know your way around rates and EXPOs you'll be able to adjust this pretty easily. As for the gimbal covers, there COULD be something out there -- but I didn't do any research as I didn't want to recommend a cover without knowing if it actually solves the problem of dealing with a frustrating OEM gimbal cover. Great question though!
      As for the EVO 3, I wouldn't count on one for at least another year. I would think it'd be a while before they made it completely obsolete. I'd say postpone any hopes of an EVO 3 until 2024 -- totally unofficial speculation.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Рік тому +1

      Honestly, no. I love the EVO II v3 for what it is as a standalone, but if you add it into the mix of the Lite and the M3, it’d just be redundant and it’s very likely one of those drones would begin collecting a lot of dust.
      I think if you wanted a more capable drone that isn’t made by DJI, you could sell your Lite and upgrade to the EVO II v3. Then you could virtually interchange between that and the M3 as necessary. Just my thought process.
      There’s also the consideration of Autel at some point finally upgrading to the EVO III. Could potentially see an increased sensor size and wider array of capabilities. No leaks as of yet on that though, so take that idea with a grain of salt.

      Hahaha! Autel has released the Evo 2 Pro THREE DIFFERENT TIMES!!! They have a V1, V2 and V3... Basically, the same drone except, none of the controllers work with each other. If you have a V1 with a V1 Smart/ Standard Controller, it won't work with the V2 or V3. Same with the V2 in respect to the V1 and V3. Rinse and repeat concerning the V3. Also, the V1, V2 or V3 Smart Controllers or Smart Controller SE doesn't work with the Lite or Nano series drones. Love it or hate it, the DJI RC Pro works with all of DJI's current models.
      DJI is giving you options with the Mavic 3... BTW what's the 3rd version? If you're referring to the Enterprise versions, Autel also has a few Enterprise versions of the Evo 2. Not to mention the Evo 2 8k V1 version. There's nothing wrong with either company offering different versions of a drone for you to choose from. For what it's worth, if you need a mechanical shutter for mapping, the Mavic 3 Enterprise has that and a 4/3rds sensor over the Evo 2s 1".
      DJI isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but I'd do some research before making a final decision.

      @Andrew Storey As far as image quality is concerned, they are practically identical. The main advantages are flight characteristics, portability, and internals. You have an Evo2 V1, you may as well get the V3. As you said, it'll save battery.

    So I watched the review, most of it anyway. I checked to see if you have the Mavic 3, it appears that you do. BTW, I also like the Autel Smart Controller SE other than the antennas. Kinda goofy. Considering that the Mavic 3 Classic, with the DJI RC and a Fly More Combo, costs about the same as the Autel, do you think that the Autel Evo 2 Pro V3 is a better drone and has better video quality than the Mavic 3? Since you have both, you're in a good position to answer this question.

      @@-xxx-7573Be helpful to know what instinctual characteristics lead you to DJI over Autel.
      Is it the colour?
      Is it the flight characteristics?
      Is it the flight time?
      Is it the signal strength?
      Is it the lack of a feature one or the other has which you use more on the one that has the feature you most like?
      I had numerous Mavic 2 Pros prior to the Evo V1. To me the camera on the Autel beat the Mavic in detail, sharpness across the frame, even to the edges. Yep the colour science was different but not worse, I tweak all of my photos on any device so the warmer tones were no big deal. The aperture range was better than than Mavic 2 also before diffraction kicked in.
      Yes the Autel flew like a brick and took some getting used to but I have learnt to fly it and it’s lovely a steady and predictable like the Mavic.
      Stupid Little things on the display like GPS coordinates in real time are just flat out handy to me. Non existent on the Mavic without a lot of effort.
      Also in software mapping missions are a dream and this is on a consumer drone, I took this for granted and assumed the Mavic 3 consumer drone could do this, nope.
      If you put the DJI and Autel side by side weirdly, initially, I’d want to pick up the DJI, just because it flew better. But when sat down at my computer looking at what I’d captured with the Mavic I’d be annoyed at the footage and image quality. So I rid myself of the Mavics and stuck with the Autel. Only had two issues with the Autel. Both were missed steps in preflight checks, sadly the last one was fatal for the drone.
      Now I need another big drone the only thing stopping me choosing DJI over Autel or Vice versa is the little things.
      Autel still has the better camera than the Mavic from footage I have seen online.
      If it flys the same as the v1 I won’t be missing out.
      The battery life, as long as it’s not worse, is enough for me.
      The lack of Geofencing is a major plus.
      Been nanny warned by my Mavic Mini 3 pro too often in areas where the only things in the nearest 20 miles are stone walls, sheep, cows and fields and trees. Living in the highlands of Scotland should rarely be notified of having to unlock my drone, yet I have to.
      If I bought the M3Pro, that would do my head in.
      That is what is stopping me buying a Mavic3Pro.
      How about you with the Autel?

    One important thing you failed to mention as far as the remote controllers are concerned is the fact that those of us who livestream events with our drones do appreciate the HDMi output that the Dji has on their smart/Pro controllers. I have not used Autel drones as of yet, but I am curious to know if their smart controllers offer the same or any other type of Live video output option. To me that is essential to have so that I can connect it directly to my video switcher and have no delay video to add to my Livestream.

    I have always preferred Autel drones because they make the most advanced drones. But Autel has also been putting out incomplete drones, where features are not working as advertised. I have recently bought an Evo 2 Pro Enterprise V3. I have a few hundred flights and understand a little about frequencies and antennas and I will explain here to dissolve any confusion about those things. I have lots of experience with the Evo 2 Pro V1 as I have 2 of them and have done lots of comparing and troubleshooting over the last couple of years with them. The Evo 2 Pro E V3 which should have a 15km transmission I just got barely transmits as good as my Evo 2 Pro V1's, which have a 9km transmission. When you go to the transmission screen on the new Evo 2 Pro E V3, there are no options, the screen is empty, Autel has explained to me this will be done at some update, it has now been 5 months since the drone's been released. The drone is very obviously working on a 2.4Gz signal, that is a short wavelength and should have a 2 inch antenna, just like most all drones up till now. The reason the transmission is barely keeping up with my Evo 2 Pro V1s, is because they put a 4 inch antenna, which is optimal for 900Mhz frequency. 900Mhz Is a longer wave that goes better through walls, when they do the update this will be an amazing drone yes, for now, if you've had an Evo 2 Pro V1 in the past, you will feel quite dissapointed. I do get real flight times of a little over a half an hour compared to 25 minutes which everyone always exagerrates, so Autel did real good there yes. So Autel put out a new drone with supposed frequency switching, but it's not doing any of that yet and the antennas are optimized for 900Mhz, which the drone is not working on, because if it was working 15km with 900Mhz would be amazing in the city yes. Of course at 900Mhz you then get a slower waves, hence slower data transfer, so I'm not even sure if they can transmit data at 1080 at that frequency, I would be fine with 720 resolution at 900Mhz, I still see power lines good on the bright screen, right now it is 720, I can easily tell, they havent updated that either. Respectively, a 4.8Gz transmission or 5.8, would be optimas with about an even shorter antenna probably closer to 1 inch, with makes it easier to fit inside your cellphone as you go up with Ghz :-). This is a very disappointing thing that Autel is doing and I hope they do the update for the transmission soon. I paid 5k for this thing and that was one of the main reasons I bought it for. Autel has also released a new drone with something very important not working as advertised. They kept my drone in repair for weeks so I got my money back from Blue Skies, who I bought it through. I then got the same drone through Amazon and found that the feature is not working on that one as advertised either. I have considered sueing Autel but I have always liked and supported Autel, and would prefer not to do this. If Blue Skies does not end the bank case against me I will tell everyone here what this feature is a lot of people would be upset, and I would hurt Autel, I would prefer not to do this. I hope they do an update to fix this soon.

    • @anonymouse8205
      @anonymouse8205 8 місяців тому

      Hi, sorry to bother you. There is not a standard range for every frequency. Some people lose signal with 2.4 GHz on 2 Km and others can fly 20Km+ with it. In theory you can fly long range with all systems but for frequencies such as 900MHz and 5.8 GHz it is much harder then with 1.2 GHz and 2.4 GHz. The most important thing are the antenna's. Not the MW.
      For instance, at 900 MHz, the wavelength is 33 cm (13 in.), so antenna diversity is at 8.25 cm (3.25 in.). For 2.4 GHz, the wavelength is 13 cm (5 in.), resulting in antenna diversity achieved at 3.25 cm (1.3 in.)
      Maybe it’s how you are positioning the antenna?

    Let me preface this by saying I have been a professional photographer for 37 years. I added drones about 10 years ago. I shoot all genres of photography but my biggest revenue generating industry is the commercial real estate developers, architects and construction companies. I have started with DJI Phantom 2, then the 3, the the 4, then the Mavic Pro series which I still have and use, I bought this Autel drone for the geo fencing as I do work on massive commercial real estate projects. So I bought the rugged bundle for a little over $3k. Did my homework on the drone via You Tube. Did some testing around the neighborhood, then to a jobsite yesterday that I have been shooting for over 2 years.
    First, the controller, I got less than a full hour from the controller before I got low power warnings. I fully charged it again, when back out for the afternoon shots and got ONE HOUR AND ONE minute of power. What the heck are we supposed to do, carry multiple controllers around like extra batteries? Plus the screen wasn't as bright nor detail as the DJI RC. One hour is totally unacceptable.
    Next, the camera. My first camera when I was 12 years old was a Polaroid swinger. That camera is better than the one that is on the EVO Pro 2 V3. If i get the building with good color and focus, the sky is totally blown. I get the sky details, my subject (buildings) are dark. I tried every conceivable adjustment and mode. I went from a NP4 filter to 8, then 16 then 34....no effect. I did the unspeakable and shot in AUTO mode and it was still very low quality. I could spend 5 hours in post and these photos would never be acceptable to my clients.
    I have had my issues with DJI over the years and I made them well aware but this piece of orange crap does not even come close to the quality of the Mavic Pro 2 or 3. I have both. I am going out this morning to shoot 150 acres that will become a manufacturing and industrial park. I am taking this EVO Pro V3 and a Mavic 2 Pro and do some comparison postings here and other drone social media platforms. As soon as I do this, I am returning this immediately with examples I have described.
    People need to know what they are getting when they purchase this AWFUL EVO Pro 2, V3. This is NOT for a professional photographers.

      My V1 had reasonable dynamic range even in backlit situations. For extremes I bracket or fit a as graduated NDF when shooting landscapes. City scapes I would just bracket.
      I’d do the same thing with my Sony A7r3 and that has amazing dynamic range.
      Shoving the drone in auto will most likely up your iso which would lower your dynamic range.

    This weekend I flew the Evo 2 Pro Ent V3 in some stronger winds, with longer arms and larger motors you would hope it would perform better then an Evo 2 Pro V1. It did not, it would slow down and drop altitude and even gave me tilt warnings instead of wind warnings. They have not even programmed the FC good for the wind, this is terrible. They need to do a serious update for the FC. I've flown my Evo 2 Pro V1s in powerful winds that wanna knock you over, nothing can take that thing out of the sky, the winds yesterday were not even close to that strong and the Evo 2 Pro Ent V3 sucked badly. It took them till June 6th 2022 before they had the final FW update that gave us dual stability on the Evo 2 Pro V1 also, thats 2 years after the drone was released. So thats how long we might be waiting before they fix things with this one. I'm starting a drone company and I can't even do serious filming with this drone because the dual stability is what got the Evo 2 Pro V1 real close to the Mavic, as far as smooth flying for filming goes. So at this time if I was doing serious filming, I would still actually be using my Evo 2 Pro V1 drone. Autel is focused on making money pushing the Evo Max 4T now and other products and is taking their time with this drone poeple spent 5K of their hard earned money on. And lastly, can we please stop beating around the bush with these useless accessories and make a drop arm like we know that that's what everyone wants. Can someone who knows electronics please rewire one of those useless accessories they give us and make a drop arm. I would be willing to pay handsomly for one.

      Very typical Autel. The aircraft hardware is second to none.. but once released (always late) they take literally years to get Firmware functional. First impressions are great. People swear off DJI and act like they witnessed the second coming.
      I went 2 years with an Evo 2 Pro V2/Smart Controller V2. Promised feature ports to Android (and the $1200 Smart Controller- which is Android) never happen. A feature that buffers 30 seconds of video is brilliant. It can start the recording 30 seconds prior to hitting record. Released on IOS and was "coming soon to Android" - that was 14 months ago. I guess "soon" is relative.. this is one example of DOZENS.. Seriously if Autel would stop trying to compete in every market segment and focus on consumer OR enterprise, not both, they would probably be able to deliver. After observing their same, never changing M.O. for 7 years, they invariably:
      * Design world class aircraft.
      * Hit the trade show circuit
      * Promise, then miss delivery dates (often by MONTHS)
      * Deliver beautifully packaged hardware, with normal new product bugs
      * fix some bugs, promise more features.
      * halfway through the product life cycle they slow updates to 4-6 month intervals.
      * Outright abandon previous products, releasing new ones with the promised fixes, but on all new hardware.
      One could say this is typical and most companiesdo this. I vehemently disagree. Most companies have end of life/end of service dates. It's reasonable to not support old hardware forever. Autel simply drops manufacturing of older hardware, including batteries and replacement parts. There are few to no 3rd party manufacturers making them for Autel.
      For anyone having a better experience than I describe, that's is good..seriously, and I hope you are getting a lot of enjoyment, and making money if you use these in a professional capacity.
      If you can still say the same in a year to 18 months, you have found your drone company. I know a half dozen drone pilots that migrated to Autel. One of them stuck with Autel until recently. Today, none of them are. It's not my place to tell anyone what's best for them. I can only reference my own experience with them. It has rarely been joyful, and has often been painful. Right now, I have 4 Autel Drones. I fly them. I put them away, always with the feeling that they could be so much better with some attention. They just don't get it.
      Either I lower my expectations or Autel does more. If neither hapoen, it will they will always be an "also ran"

They basically created a deadly loop hole and I paid $600 for their lack of foresight. It dawned on me after i paid for it. Ludicrous mode disables anti-collision everyone needs to know that. It cost me. The control curves for the v2 are not smooth. apparently they didnt fix it in the v3. You complained about it. I neglected to respond to the second half of your comment! Apologies! The Controller SE has access to SOME intelligent flight modes, but not all of the same ones you get in the Autel Sky app with the Nano and Lite versions of the EVO.
      Which was a shame because I really love their "Flick" flight mode -- a unique shot for sure! I'm sure it won't be long until these are available as well. But the flight modes they have, while basic, are still reliable!

      @@TheDroneGeek actually Autel support confirmed with me before purchasing that it only has 8 bit video and 12bit photo. Marketing didn't get the memo so the initial specs released stated it had 10 bit. This is the main reason why I went with a mavic 3 and not the new autel evo pro v3. I really wanted to stick with autel but they let me down on this one

  • @j_g123

    Great drone on paper, well made. But flight characteristics are frustrating, clunky, no good for smooth follows or compund turns. If you're used to dji stick handling, you'll want to throw the Evo controller against the wall.
    One more issue no one talks about: lens flare. The silver casing compounds sun reflections when flying towards the sun, sunstet shots etc. Unuseable.
    Don't recommend for film. Probably great for survey and inspection work.

    Autel is a American company ???

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  2 місяці тому

      No. There was misinformation that circulated around a while back that they were American. They are, in fact, Chinese. Their manufacturing facility is essentially right across the street from DJI’s.

    • @the_patriot7
      @the_patriot7 2 місяці тому +1

      @TheDroneGeek if the factory is in China it doesn't mean that it's a Chinese company !!! the most important question is : where the money goes to !!! you need to call Autel and ask them if they are American company and it will be the best idea . let me know . thank you !!!

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  2 місяці тому

      No need to call, it’s a Chinese company. There’s misinformation out there that it’s based in Washington state, but it isn’t. Its headquarters is based in Shenzhen with a US operations center in Seattle. All of the big-picture business decisions and manufacturing are done in China. Autel is just as Chinese as DJI is from an origination standpoint.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  2 місяці тому

      Additionally, I disagree on your notion that where the manufacturing facilities are does not matter. I’d argue it matters MORE than where the operations centers are located. That is, if the sentiment behind the US government’s anti-Chinese drone legislation is honest and it isn’t actually about forcing money into US drone manufacturers…which is an entirely different set of rabbit holes to get into.

    Better hope it doesn't break. Their customer service is the absolute worst,. I spent 6k on an Evo 2 640T brand new from Autel. I had the drone 1 day and got locked out of the controller before I even took my first flight. They told me to send the controller back to them. Then tried to charge me 500 to "fix" a brand new controller with zero flights on it. They did the repair without even telling me it was gonna cost me anything., Now they have my controller and won't give it back unless I pay $500

    AR has very poor customer service, SE is poor, documentation is poor, Software/Firmware updating is spotty, and descriptions of their models are confusing. They also launch a new product but can get it. No production after launching of product at tradeshows.
    I think AR is going to go BANKRUPT! Their business model is terrible.

      I suppose and assume your comment is based on personal experience and perspective? My dealings with Autel support have been excellent thus far, but I live in the UK, maybe the geographical location is important?
      Whilst I have read the manual a couple of times, I have grasped the basics, even with the spelling mistakes.
      Only ever had the V1 and the small controller with the iOS (iPhone and iPad) and android, both have been fine. Updates always done via the sd card, and no issues installing.
      I use an Autel MaxiCom car scanner. Autel are highly regarded in the Auto industry for diagnostics. Much like DJI, they have fingers in other pies.
      Whilst anything is possible, it does seem unlikely Autel will go bankrupt.

    Are you kidding me. Autel technical support and/or after sales service service is BAD. I am not maybe the drone is good but the technical support and after sales service is bad. The techinician (not technicians) lack the knowledge in supporting this product. The Evo II Pro keeps having gimbal initialiazation errors and this is third or the fouth time , the drone could not recover from it. You I own a DJI and the techinical support on DJI is top notch. They know there stuff and the after sales service is great. This is from an impartial drone pilot who uses drones in his bussines . Just something to consider before you buy an Autel.

      @@captinamerica2147 Yes I purchased (the rugged bundle) in late August 2023. I had already owned an EVO 2 V1 (and still do and actually like it better than the V3). I dropped $1100 on the 7" controller for the v3 because I couldn't see the display on the smart controller in daylight - even in the shade... If you want to buy that smart controller, I still have it (with a spare battery)... A little secret is that the V1 actually has more options and added controls than the V3.
