Deception Pass State Park is very nice except for the jet noise from the nearby naval station at Oak Harbor.
Anecortes is not on Whidbey. You left Whidbey crossing deception pass. That churning water wasn't a river. Cheers.

The shipwreck is La Merced, commissioned in somethling like 1915 and scuttled in the mid-1960s when it was filled with dredge and turned into a breakwater! And a small clarification: Anacortes is on Fidalgo Is. You crossed from Whidbey onto Fidalgo when you drove over the Deception Pass Bridge. Did you walk out on to the bridge? The view is extraordinary. The bridge height is 180ft... taller than Niagra Falls!

That's not a river under Deception Pass. The bridge connects Whidbey Island with Fidelgo Island. You were seeing part of Puget Sound. The view from on top of the bridge is incredible when you can see the power of the water flowing underneath and viewing from that height. Yeah, we camped at that campground as kids. Our families had property at Dewey Beach near the pass on Fidelgo, and we spent many a 4th of July camping there. Eventually, my uncle built a house on the property which was only recently sold. My mom lived in Anacortes for many years. I know that territory well.

Nice video, thanks Eric. I was on Whidby Island during typhoon Frieda, when I was a kid. It was a camp weekend getaway for around 100 kids (teens). The leaders kept us really well occupied into the night with sports and games in the big log lodge. Then we slept on the floor in sleepi g bags. The storm was huge and terrifying, 60 to 80 mph winds locally. We were cut off from power and phone pretty early. Had to climb over tree debris when we went out in the morning. Very exciting.

I was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island back in the 80's. Our joke was that aliens placed an RV around every corner just to keep the traffic slow because there are no passing areas on the island. The path that you were walking down was in Deception Pass, you said the river flows into the ocean. It isn't a river, it is the ocean that surrounds the island. During tidal shifts it looks like a river flowing, hence the name Deception Pass. Early explorers thought it was a river inlet from the ocean which was going to be a new trade route. They were deceived!

As a native Washingtonian I have to make a few small corrections. 1) That is NOT a river at Deception Pass. It is a passage connecting two parts of Puget Sound. Deception Pass is noteworthy because of the strong reversing currents. Plus it is incredibly beautiful. 2) Anacortes is NOT on Whidbey Island. Anacortes is on Fidalgo Island. You left Whidbey Island when you crossed the Bridge at Deception Pass. You should park the RV and take a ferry ride into the San Juan Islands since you are in Anacortes.

I spent 30 years on Whidbey until the weather started affecting me. Very cool and damp. Anacortes is actually on Fidalgo island. You left Whidbey as soon as you crossed the Deception Pass Bridge. Then as you continue east on Hwy 20, you leave Fidalgo Island and cross to the mainland at the Swinomish Sleugh (at the Casino). It is a beautiful place to visit and I really enjoyed living there for as long as I did.

You and Jax will see a lot more sun once you get to the East side of the Cascades -- we average 300 days of sunshine each year in Wenatchee :-)

Anacortes is on Fidalgo Is. You left Whidby Is when you crossed the Reception Pass bridge.

OYH! They need to send Fred's car in for repairs there's not a spot for the brakes! LOL Neat sculptures! We have accidents here all the time too. People in too BIG of a hurry OR just not paying attention. That view overlooking the beach is BEAUTIFUL! Loved the drone footage. OH Now you REALLY caught my attention with the boats. I love being out on the ocean! AWW! Jax is such a camera ham 💜🧡 Hope ya enjoyed the movie and safe travels.

I was raised in Oak Harbor. The beach you pointed down to, in Deception Pass State Park, picniced there every summer. Remember you crossed the bridge before you got to Anacortes, it’s not on Whidbey Island, but Fidalgo Island. You missed some picturesque spots on Whidbey Island. Getting on the Cascade Loop is another wonderful road trip. PNW Washington is the best. ❤

Stayed in Deception pass last May. Nice park but you better like navy jets, seemed like fly over every few minutes.

It is so beautiful up there and 60’s sounds so good, we are near or over 100 for about a week starting tomorrow. I think I know where we’ll go next summer though 👍
