If you're a new player or are fighting a monster you're unfamiliar with, you're probably going to get poisoned more than 5 times or will need to heal more than twice. It's best to bring the "basic" items like the Antidotes or Mega Potions, that are just as good as their contemporaries if you have a breather, as well as the immediate use stuff. I would also like to note some other things: -As many people have pointed out Dung Pods are now farmable. Immunisers might be a bit costly but they are never as rare as Nourishing Extracts will be. -What a lot of people don't know about Immuniser is that it lasts FIVE whole minutes! It's definitely the most underrated survivability buff in the game, you can just chug it at the start of a fight and you'll have a little extra health to work with. This is distinct from Astera Jerky, which has a buff that only lasts for a single minute. However, Astera Jerky does have a niche in that it immediately restores all current recoverable health, which against certain monsters like Lunastra can be an extremely effective heal. -"Flash pods are probably only going to be used by speedrunners" Okay, I admit I haven't played Iceborne, but... Really? Even if you only flash once, a free monster knockdown, out of the sky no less, plus a few seconds of the monster not aiming its attacks is ABSOLUTELY worth an item slot to carry around at all times. Tip for easy to remember atk+ and armor+ bluffs; 1 food, 1 drink, 1 powder (excluding mushroommancer). Did you eat a pill? It kicks the seed you ate. Did you drink a mdd? It kicks the dd. Helped me stop throwing things away when I started wide ranged builds. Upvote if you think this tip is helpful to let others see it too! Good luck hunters ;)
Here's a big tip if you farm the steam works regularly the steam works gives steam tickets which are used to make the clockwork armour sets however you get so many of them If you go to the elder melder these tickets are worth 50-100 melding points so use them to meld items you need as you dont need these tickets other than to make the armor .
Thanks for the video. I'm having a rough day but you're nice cadence is always pleasant to have ^_^ Very excited to watch you duke it out with Rajang shortly!
Mushroomancer Wide-Range builds are still the staple of my co-op sets. Being able to carry so a large number of mushrooms that each have the effects of the attack/defense drugs, Dash Juice, an instant potion, recovery up and x10 Max Potions is wonderful. There's Excite Shroom's randomized effect on the user itself too, but I'm a bit iffy on that one. Better to just use Mega Potions, Blight Seeds and Medicine Pills/Powders. Granted it does take up a lot of skill slots to run that sort of build, it's incredibly useful in party play and for solo gathering.
I slightly disagree with the sentiment regarding herbal medicine over herbal powder. At this point in the game with four botanical slots unlocked, I don't feel particularly worried about running out of godbugs any time soon. At the bare minimum though, even if you're just curing your own poison, throwing even a tiny bit of health out to the entire team can save a cart!
Alternatively, one could adopt mushroomancer and never have to deal in potions of any type again. Can carry 10 mandragora which is essentially a max potion anyways, you can pluck it easily if you run out, you can grow them without having to use up multiple slots for components, and even when you start out you will have an advantage in blue mushrooms being everywhere, fast to eat, and instant to recover with. Sure you sacrifice gear slots, but it can be done alot earlier and more comfortably this way. Also doesn't clutter your inventory as much as carrying max pot components~
I found Kelbi horns to be really easy to get if you just shoot sticky level 1 at a Kelbi. It just hits them and it drops on contact even without the explosion. This of course assumes a HBG is in use - just anytime you pass by one just wack em a bit and move on. For reference I'm using Nero's Blazooka, which isn't very high level comparatively.
Ancient Potions are good for harder hunts. They can quickly give you max HP and stamina after fainting, so you don't have to wait to eat next meal. I usually keep Enegry Drink too. I use them instead of rations.
As someone spamming Wide Range, Fungiform, and Speed Eating on basically all my multiplayer builds, this was a nice refresher. Also, you can farm dung with the Ancient Tree now, cheaper and quicker than the Elder Melder.
Prepping for Iceborne PC and tinkering with loadouts. When you got to Flashpods/Flashbugs I decided to free up a slot by taking out my 10 flashbugs from my basic/generic loadout. Thanks!
Wow.. What dedication, this video must have taken you a LOT of time to make and gather information. Great work as always. A little tip for Kelbi horns: you get 1 horn per kelbi if you hit it Witch a blunt weapon, fx, hammer, the slap with HBG, Shoulder push with GS, SnS shield attacks and so on. But i guess most of you know this.
Ancient Potion is nice to have if you have low stamina and Health while you fight Mostly used by Speedrunners with DBs Bow just to reset your health and stamina to full
Another Good Tip about getting Ancient and Max potions is actually Melding. max potion cost 30 melding points which easily can be gotten from trading in bones same with ancient potion they are a little more expensive which is 80 points but its far more economical to meld for max potions than to craft them and as long as you collect bones you will always be able to get alot of them
Your best to fit me was taking it the Armour talon & charm. I have played for so long with them I just digit about them. They became a permanent fixture. Best tip of video. Would rather use that space for real helpful items or just spare boxes for collecting ingredients as I run by them. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
But what about boomerangs and binoculars??? Also, I wonder if smoke bombs are useful for sharpening while fighting super aggressive monsters like Deviljho and Yian Garuga?
Binoculars = useful for spotting rare critters Smoke Bombs = yes very useful for sharpening, fast travel in a fight. Be careful as the monster will attack last positioned spotted. So drop one, move, drop another outside line of sight. Enjoy being a ninja 😂
I'd like to add bc I haven't seen it mentioned in a bit. You can garuntee a Kelbi horn drop if you smack them a few times with a capture net in the face. It may take a few times and you have to be fast, but as long as you aren't double dipping on the same kelbi, it will pop off eventually. They do have to have some kind of nub already.
I know I'm late, but: Smoke Bomb in MP: the cloud sticks around for a little bit. If the monster changes aggro to someone in the smoke, they will be "sniff-locked" I think even when enraged. It's like 3 seconds of paralysis in exchange for 1 second of smokebomb. Just a neat way to add complication in direct exchange for increase in attack windows.
I doubt newer players will read this but just in case. If u need to farm kelbi horns bring a hammer to wildspire waste. One smack wit a hammer on male or even female kelbi will drop a horn and sometimes even after they drop a horn carving will give a horn.
7:14 is being able to cultivate dung pods a console only feature? I'm playing on PC and I cannot cultivate them. They aren't in any of the tabs in the botanical research menu.
Loved the first video, helped me a lot to improve when I was kinda hitting a wall of how good I can be in the game! Skipped through this one too, great job! 👍
Smokebombs were usually used (in the older games) to fight 1 monster in the arena without alerting the other one while the fence is on cooldown or just disabled
@@leebard9335 it comes back, lol. Just kidding. It does a very marginal ranged damage. Good for alerting a monster to your presence, but beyond that, not much. If you smack tails with a hammer, I believe you can throw a 'rang to sever it, as it deals cut damage. Never did blunt, so I don't know for sure.
ancient potion is EXTREMELY viable if you change how you harvest it. Get level 3 part breaker and then then attack boost + a greatsword to break the Kelbi horns on one swing (I think the attack you need is around 600- 800ish, attack boost lets you slowly tweak how much you are hitting for until you get in the sweet spot of breaking the horn off in one swing, but not killing the Kelbi) You don't even need to kill them, they Run away and respawn immediately in wildspire waste. I got around 50 horns in roughly 20 min . Very easy to farm that way.
Something else maybe worth mentioning is that you can send your tail raiders out to gather items such as dash extract for you. I know I always send mine out to fight diablos cause he drops them. :) great video!
If you put a piece of raw meat on the ground, the screaming flyers will flock to the raw meat on the ground after a while, about 6-8 of them at a time. Then you can unload a wyvern blast on them and get some screamer pods! Though, I still find screamer pods more trouble than they are worth. Only somewhat useful for one monster and its reskinned variant. It's just not worth the mental trouble creating a separate item loadout just for the screamer pods whenever you want to hunt Diablos.
For Smoke Bomb, search stealth kill velkana. Hilarious useage of smoke bomb, velkana never gets agro. Always confused looking around, super easy to cluster bomb!
I had an awesome smoke bomb dragon pierce set in MHW. earplugs are a must cause everything the monster sees you, they roar. Smoke bomb, dragon pierce them, maybe even twice. They spot you and roar, dragon pierce again. Smoke bomb and repeat. Use the stealth skill and, the assassins creed mantle will let you lose the monsters sight more often. But let the monster spot you before you shoot them again, so you can keep disappearing. It’s a pretty fun try hard way to play to feel cool with smoke bombs. You can even set up large barrel bombs and traps and stuff under the cover. It’s also neat with LBG. and this is a solo skill or, the monster is just gonna fight someone else instead of standing still. Which by the way, if you really really really don’t want aggro ever. Go ahead and use it in multiplayer, lol.
You can get nourishing extract, kelbi horn, dash extract, and screamer sacks by sendind palicos on a tailraider safari. You just have to choose properly on which safari quest you will send them. Also on the argocy shop they sometimes bring those materials. So you dont have to farm as much, that what i usually do to get my non growable materials.
Don't forget we have the steamworks now, so ancient pots/max pot/mega pot are now passive obtained. So they are all relevant and can be pretty much spammed
If you use a hammer, Kelbi horn is really easy to farm. One strike from the hammer pops off a horn and the Kelbi hops away. I will travel back and forth between coral highlands and wildspire camp 1 and will have over 50 in 5-6 minuets, 2 on the pc.
So I have not looked through the comments to see if anyone has said this and I also have not tested this in iceborn but in the base game if you take a light or heavy bowgun (light is better for movement speed) take sticky level 1 and shoot them. Like kirin there body is so small no matter where you hit the blast can reach there head. The cause of this is that for some reason kelby with or without horns drop horns. Just a tip hope you like and it helps
An ancient potion is not bad to take if you cart early and cannot eat so you can max your heath/stamina food bonus. Not mandatory because you can hit the tent to snag one quick but I carry one for speeds sake. Rarely need it but its nice to have on hand for those unlucky times. In multiplayer I run wide range lvl 5, free meal secret lvl 3, speed eating lvl 3, full inventory of buffs and health/status rec as needed and I always have my hunting horn. Barely use a stack of any one thing eating like mad all round, and I still get stuck in doing good damage.
The one thing I found smoke bombs useful for is Wyvernsnipe. Not a meta build by any means, but if you wanna make a fun snipe build, you can bring these and the ghillie mantle. Wyvernsnipe cools down very quickly compared to Wyvernheart, so the smoke bombs let you load it and fire it off in the middle of a fight, rather than waiting for a sleep or KO. Add Focus 3 for even more sniping!
Should have mentioned that in master rank the health potions left in the item box at the beginning of a quest are the + type which is 4 extra mega potions.
With the ammo sorting I airways out my first ammo at the top because that what it starts on. Then if I want sleep or something like Dragon for a downed monster really accessible I put it at the very bottom. That way in game you just click up once on d-pad to access it from your main ammo type.
I don't use it but you can also sort your ammo/loadout the same as your boxes. If you get the right set up or a base set up worked out I could see that as a big time saver because you won't have to adjust ammo or bar.
I like ancient potion more than max because I can carry more and in longer battles I need the stamina back. Kelbi are super easy to farm, iron 1 bow Arch shot will break at least 1 sometimes 2 horns off a kelbi everytime.
if you use a blunt attack (such as a greatsword shoulder bash or bowgun bash) on a kelbi head you will always get the horn as a drop without killing the kelbi this makes kelbi horn much more viable to farm as you can just go on an expedition to camp 1 in wildspire and then go right back.
Make a free meal build with tigrex armor pieces. Max that skill up. Set fungiform/mushroomancer and friendship gems. Farm Nitroshroom, Mandragora, parashroom and toadstool; eat them all. You'll give your party and palico rcovery up, attack up, def up and dash juice effect. Both atk and def up buff last throughout the hunt or until you carted.
The quest shown for the 4th cultivation slot is incorrect. Yes you need to do that quest but you also have to do the 1 star quest and the 3 star quest to catch a brachydios
seems like since the rajang update you don't need to force monsters back to their original regions in the guiding lands anymore. If a monster is from the forest, it'll raise the forest level wherever you are, for instance.
Knight Slayer just beat the behemoth on MHW and have lost the will to keep playing and and am currently downloading Skyrim on my PS4. I had Skrim skrim for a while but I like to go back to it every now and then. There’s so much to do that in all my play through I never completed everything. My favorite thing is the thieves guild and my pickpocket and sneak are 100.
I mostly use my Tailraider Safari for Nourishing Extract. It's probably about the most useful thing they can bring back anyway. Just send them after the most Dodo's and Odo's with bonuses that you can. I have hundreds of Screamer Pods just because I always sending the Argosy for consumables.
Ancient potion is easily sustainable. I use the tail riders 100% if time to collect Kelbi Horn & Nourishing extract from Odogaron/Poulumu/Dodgama & now I think the var/sp. I find Odogaron to be most effective of those. If you see odo & kelbis in the same line, JACKPOT! If you see a whole line of the 2 which is rarer than an attack gem I rub my hands together. Although another tip is the do the Meal voucher event with poulumu for daily resource centre Bouygues during festivals to complete that, get meal vouchers and bonus Nourishing extract. Yes.
Flash pods are great to give you time for a capture. Argosy is great for harder to get items like screamers(melder too). I fetch an ancient potion from the tent if I do faint. Farcasters are great for a variety of reasons - I use them all the time in the guiding lands because of stupid aggro from jagras or gajalaka after a hunt. Happy hunting.
My problem isn't the screamer pods, but I want to have the sacs to craft more during the hunt when Diablos or his angry wife have a fit and keep going underground
Another awesome video that taught me a lot but I had a question about the item bar. I've spent time organizing my item bar and it'll stay that way for a while but then somewhere down the road I look through it and it's in complete disarray again. Is there some way to make sure that the bar stays consistently organized?
@Vedang Naik ah okay maybe because I like to add mushrooms for whichever bow in using after equipping the load out is what causes it to get messed up. I'll do some testing on that when I get home.
Dung pod actually shine in TA speedrun for Great Sword. It’s the only pod permitted under ta wiki rule and with the new great sword move, it’s just so much dps boost. And for smoke bomb, it’s for assassin play style. You can search for those videos like killing AT nergi without actually fighting him.

Here's a big tip if you farm the steam works regularly the steam works gives steam tickets which are used to make the clockwork armour sets however you get so many of them
If you go to the elder melder these tickets are worth 50-100 melding points so use them to meld items you need as you dont need these tickets other than to make the armor .
Thanks for the video. I'm having a rough day but you're nice cadence is always pleasant to have ^_^ Very excited to watch you duke it out with Rajang shortly!
*your, how embarrassing
What about the Great Sushifish? I used that so much in my Wide Range setup for Extreme Behemoth! A true life saver it was.
Smoke bomb+HBG with Scope and wyvernsnipe mod+ assassin' creed mantle?
Pitfall trap = trap tool + (ivy + spider web)
I've seen some Japanese speed runners run smoke bombs to safely apply buffs mid fight. Specially on the slower weapons
Am I hearing Skryim? Thanks for the vid!
Yo not even 3 minutes in (2:33 to be exact) and you've already changed how I'm gunna play my character. Absolutely insane.
@ 11:19 Where do you buy more Rations?
As someone spamming Wide Range, Fungiform, and Speed Eating on basically all my multiplayer builds, this was a nice refresher.
Also, you can farm dung with the Ancient Tree now, cheaper and quicker than the Elder Melder.
You can also easy gather it in the Guiding lands . Even in just WW part there are 2 constant piles with a dung beatle (so you get rolled dung too )
Prepping for Iceborne PC and tinkering with loadouts.
Ancient Potion is nice to have if you have low stamina and Health while you fight
Mostly used by Speedrunners with DBs Bow just to reset your health and stamina to full
Another Good Tip about getting Ancient and Max potions is actually Melding. max potion cost 30 melding points which easily can be gotten from trading in bones same with ancient potion they are a little more expensive which is 80 points but its far more economical to meld for max potions than to craft them and as long as you collect bones you will always be able to get alot of them
Rested the steam works is easily the best of you are collecting ore in the guiding lands.
Over 700+ hours of playing, I still haven't got the well done steak throphy :D:D:D
Don't really need it though, I got all the rations I need
Your best to fit me was taking it the Armour talon & charm.
I have played for so long with them I just digit about them. They became a permanent fixture.
Best tip of video. Would rather use that space for real helpful items or just spare boxes for collecting ingredients as I run by them.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Perfect video for a giant noob like me. Less than 15 hours played so far and this video has explained so much. Keep it up!
But what about boomerangs and binoculars???
Also, I wonder if smoke bombs are useful for sharpening while fighting super aggressive monsters like Deviljho and Yian Garuga?
Binoculars = useful for spotting rare critters
Smoke Bombs = yes very useful for sharpening, fast travel in a fight.
I know I'm late, but:
Smoke Bomb in MP: the cloud sticks around for a little bit.
@TheGameconmist. Nani. Please tell me. How do I purchase rations??? @11:21
Hey gameconomist with the cool and hot drink you could bring resentment and a health augmentation to keep healing the damage
Loved the first video, helped me a lot to improve when I was kinda hitting a wall of how good I can be in the game!
Skipped through this one too, great job! 👍
You blew my mind in the first 2 minutes so now I gotta finish the video
Smokebombs were usually used (in the older games) to fight 1 monster in the arena without alerting the other one while the fence is on cooldown or just disabled
Replaying MHW again and that 1st tip blew my mind. I'm so going to do that when I get home
RIP Nullberry and Boomerang :(
What's boomerang do?
@@leebard9335 it comes back, lol. Just kidding. It does a very marginal ranged damage. Good for alerting a monster to your presence, but beyond that, not much. If you smack tails with a hammer, I believe you can throw a 'rang to sever it, as it deals cut damage. Never did blunt, so I don't know for sure.
@@joeymac4302 Thanks; I watched a video that explained this, butI appreciate it! Did you know the Resident Evil emote does cut damage too?
ancient potion is EXTREMELY viable if you change how you harvest it.
Astera jerky brings red health back instantly and is an instant eat. I always jerky then mega pot. My max pot are the “oh shot” moments
I'm running a support build I've got 3 speed eating decos along with a lvl 5 friendship charm for wide range. I'm the ultimate instant healer.
Small correction: For Pitfalls, you need Nets. Nets are made from Ivy + Spider web.
11:04 how you can give somebody stamina by eating by yourself?????
The one thing I found smoke bombs useful for is Wyvernsnipe. Not a meta build by any means, but if you wanna make a fun snipe build, you can bring these and the ghillie mantle. Wyvernsnipe cools down very quickly compared to Wyvernheart, so the smoke bombs let you load it and fire it off in the middle of a fight, rather than waiting for a sleep or KO. Add Focus 3 for even more sniping!
Man, all of your videos are so info dense. its amazing!
Should have mentioned that in master rank the health potions left in the item box at the beginning of a quest are the + type which is 4 extra mega potions.
Realizing this so much later, he’s using the Skyrim exploring ost. Love this man.
If you get the right set up or a base set up worked out I could see that as a big time saver because you won't have to adjust ammo or bar.
in guiding lands open you map and by the monster there is a symbol. that symbol means what zone they are from and will give points for
17:30 another way would be the safari if you send the cats to odogaron especially if they are 2 odo's in a row.
I like ancient potion more than max because I can carry more and in longer battles I need the stamina back. Kelbi are super easy to farm, iron 1 bow Arch shot will break at least 1 sometimes 2 horns off a kelbi everytime.
On the ancient potion thing, Kelbi horn is a super easy farm if you use HBG/LBG melee bash, knocks those suckers off in one shot every time.
if you use a blunt attack (such as a greatsword shoulder bash or bowgun bash) on a kelbi head you will always get the horn as a drop without killing the kelbi this makes kelbi horn much more viable to farm as you can just go on an expedition to camp 1 in wildspire and then go right back.
Great sushi fish scale is basically a max potion + bleed heal and since I run wide range 5, speed eating 3, free meal 3 these are pretty important
seems like since the rajang update you don't need to force monsters back to their original regions in the guiding lands anymore. If a monster is from the forest, it'll raise the forest level wherever you are, for instance.
@gameconomist, equip geology go to the guiding lands use a hammer and break the Kelli horns, you will get 2 shinies that’s two horns per break
I’m always playing Skyrim hoping something new will come to the game.
I'll do some testing on that when I get home.
well i sustain the Ancient Poitions either with Elder MelderOR with Felyne expo; Dash the same
Dung pod actually shine in TA speedrun for Great Sword. It’s the only pod permitted under ta wiki rule and with the new great sword move, it’s just so much dps boost.
And for smoke bomb, it’s for assassin play style. You can search for those videos like killing AT nergi without actually fighting him.
Mh speed runners make me feel like the shittiest hunter
Bro thank you so much for the explanation it really gave light to all the items. Since im the kind of player before starting a game i religiously study, memorize, research everything. I even watched every game monster hunter released since 2004 to 2018 hehe i even the monster hunter games in scelphones. This really gave me light btw im just 10hrs in the game.
i can see smoke bomb into stealth ghillie to climb a ledge with hammer and really do some damage...or near a slope to make it pause for a moment.
Smoke Bombs are useful for dropping aggro on Safi and Extreme Behemoth, but for a standard loadout I can't see much use for them.
31:33 the biggest of oofs
Ancient potion is for if you cart in a quest before you can eat at the canteen again and want to max health amd stamina without eating max lotion then 2 rations or well done steak. I have 300 ancient potions bec it's specific circumstances but I do use them at times. Mostly if I cart in multi-player
Slinger burst flash pod with sns is basically an oh shit button if u dont have anything else and the monster is about to attack u. It works everytime if u shoot it right in their face
