  • After taking a few months off training to sell my law firm, I was super keen to jump back on the rings.
    In this video I run through some basic to intermediate ring strength and skill progressions as well as a few combinations.
    Having suffered dreadfully from elbow tendonitis in the past (I didnt know what it was when I got it), I also share some pre-hab, re-hab and general awareness tips and drills to avoid and/or treat the dreaded elbow pain often experienced from going deeper into ring work (especially as you get older!).
    I use 32mm rings by 5Billion which you can by from Amazon via my affiliate link here: geni.us/ERLFY2c

    Great mobility drills, I've never done those before. Plus your video re-united me with my old bamboo staff I keep in the garage. Honestly, some of the most fun I've had was with a staff and and plastic bag, just keeping it off the ground and having a blast... Always good to see fellow passionate movers like yourself. Thanks for the video!

    An even better tool for fitness is a splitting axe. The ideal IMO is to be able to split a 10-12" diameter log in one swing, cudos if you can go wider than that.
    Another good tool is a manual push mower for cutting the grass. Cut the lawn & you can eliminate your workout for that day [for avg fitness, for most lawns I've seen (500 sqr ft min)]. Especially since to do as good a job as the gas mower I've always had to go over it twice.

    It's such a pain (literally) because I was not able to train since December... I hope I will finally get over it soon.
    Thanks for the great video Mr. Really enjoyed that.
    Have you ever experienced a stinging pain + a feeling of tearing just next to the epicondyle while doing the muscle up transition?

    • @agrifforama
      @agrifforama  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Phill. When I first experienced golfes elbow I didn't know what it was so continued training until it set in and those pains you described came on doing muscle ups. I had to stop doing exercises that gave me that sharp pain, but once I got onto those eccentric loaded rehab drills I was able to get rid of it and eased back into skills like muscle ups. Now I'm very cautious not to over do volume, just to stay mindful of what can happen when overuse turns on you. Work around it as best you can, do the rehab and you'll be back doing what you love soon. All part of the journey man.

    Hi, I’ve have golfer’s elbow off and on with varying levels of intensity for almost four years. I love the stick warmup you showed on this video-never seen that before! What kind of eccentrics exercises did you use to eliminate your golfer’s elbow? I need to start seriously addressing it.

    • @agrifforama
      @agrifforama  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the question mate. The good news is you can fix it. The loaded eccentric drill that fixed mine was this. You'll need either a dumbbell with just a small weight on one end, or you can use a stick and strap a small weight to the end of that. Holding the dumbbell by the non weighted end like an Olympic torch (your arm is at 90 degrees), lower the weight outwards (external rotation) keeping the elbow still (for your right arm this looks like 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock and for your left arm 12 o'clock to 9 o'clock). Use your other hand to assist the weight back up to12 o'clock. Choose a weight that isn't too painful. Start light. Aim for 3 to 5 sets of 10 each day for 2 weeks. Try to avoid inflaming it with any activity that acutely hurts it in the meantime (e.g for me this was chin ups etc). Hope this helps!

    I have problem like at the centre of my elbow on the triceps site. Its usually happen while preforming the exercise with straight arms. For example i tried some flat tuck Pl hold on rings and i think that this is the exercise which makes it worst. Right now even if i try to do shoulder rotations with stick, it hurts in that exact place in elbow. Im going to avoid Pl training on rings and try to massage spot and muscles arounds and also try to pump it before sleep and focus little more on the warm up. But dunno really know what it is so i hope that it would help me 😅 great video anyway

    • @agrifforama
      @agrifforama  Рік тому +1

      Give it a rest initially for sure. Some light elbow drills after that. If you don't see any improvement over a month I would get it checked out. Most of my niggles like that tend to heal themselves if you avoid anything too acute, do some rehab prehab stuff and just try to work around it as best you can.

    Did you ever lose range of motion in your elbow while having tendonitis?

    • @agrifforama
      @agrifforama  3 роки тому +1

      While I had it (the worst for me was the inside or golfers elbow), I found certain movements like chin ups or throwing a ball to be very painful. My arms could still achieve full range of motion curling, but the pain was sharp and at its worst, in the acute 8 to 9 out of 10 range (it would bring tears to my eyes just about). But once I did the rehab drills I kicked it after about a month of daily work specifically on them and the pain when away and I still have full range of motion. Its such a relief when you get rid of it and so horrible that you don't want to get it ever again (so much so that I really spend time these days on that prehab work to keep them healthy). Tendons love load i learned and the key is working with the eccentric or negative loading to the tendon just enough to strengthen it without aggravating it too much.
