Brian - thank you for the compliment! One question I have with that: If you were to buy a pull-up bar for the SML-1 could you use it without effecting your squat?
@@motivationhw Shorter people may be able to add a pull up bar, but I am almost positive I would hit my head on the pull up bar during the walk out. For reference I am 6’ 1”.
i picked up a sml-2 with spotter arms and storage pegs from someone for 360 cash. the rogue web site would of had it at around 900-950 with tax and shipping.
If I remember correctly I bought the felt at Walmart in the arts and crafts section. I still use the same equipment today with that felt I put on in the video! Here's a link to something similar: amzn.to/3OX7UZM
Great video! How tall was your ceiling that you needed to pop out the tiles to make it fit? Looking at this or the S2 but leaning towards this to expand it later like you mentioned.
It's not a full 8' ceiling or the squat stand would have fit without any problems. I also had 3/4" horse stall mats under it which created less clearance as well. I now have it in a commercial space where I do PT. The space it's in now has 8' ceilings and with the same horse stall mats the uprights still have a few inches to spare!
Nice video, did you do the HR-2 upgrade? If so can you squat in the smaller section? I have had my SML-2 for 5 years love it and looking at the upgrade kit with 90” posts and 17” inch crossmembers so I can add the multi grip pull-up bar.
@pseudoty thank you! I haven't purchased it yet. It's on my Christmas list for myself though. I'll have it in January to run some tests and do a video! I'll reach out to Rogue in the meantime and see if they would be willing to send me one. (Doubt it though 🤣).
No, you can't squat in the small section -- it's only good for plate storage. If you want a full rack, buy a full rack, don't try to turn this into one... I recently sold my SML-2C to get a full Monster rack, wasn't a necessity but I had the spare cash and I'm happy I made the switch.
The stand comes with the bar! You Get to choose which bar that you want. If I remember correctly from when I purchased mine they had two options, the bar that you see in the video and a bar that has two bars that go across.
Possibly a dumb question, I prefer a black color squat rack, and so then it wouldn't matter if I get the SML-2 instead SML-2 C right ? The only reason to get the SML-2C would be specifically if you wanted a color other than black correct ? Great video btw
Hey, thank you for the compliment! Yes, the only difference between the SML-2 and the SML-2C is the C stands for color. The SML-2 will come back and is (or was at the time of the video) less expensive! The conversion kit will work with both the SML-2 and the SML-2C the same. I'll double check on that for you. It's been a while since I made this video, but I don't believe anything has changed.
Got it. One more question, where do you get the stick on protection that you put on the J hooks to keep from scratching the rack.. does that come with it or did you purchase that separately ? For reference, you mentioned it on the video at 3:56. Thanks again man. I just placed the order.
The Monster lite LT-1 50 is designed for Rogue's rigs not necessarily their stands. I'd be very cautious using the jammer arms with the stand unless you have a half rack conversion kit or at least the stand bolted to the floor!
I would do rack pulls on it with 100% confidence. With that being said I don't lift over 300lbs on a rack pull. This is well below the 1000lb capacity of the rack. I just would suggest having the weight on the arms closer to the stand rather than further away. The arms are extremely solid. If you're dropping heavy weight on it, you may start to see deformities in the equipment as it's not made for that. I wouldn't be worried from safety perspective myself though. Even with heavy weight up above 800-1000lbs since you're not directly under the weight.
awesome video, I got my first rogue sml-2 with the safety arms for 300 on offer up. I was going to go with a smaller amazon for the same price but these videos helped me to upgrade longterm instead of having to replace it again. Thanks for the info.
I am thinking about this or SML-1 with Rogue P-3 pull up bar. My question is, is it worth it to get the Rogue stand alone pull up bar or is the bar very stable on this for weighted pull ups, muscle ups etc? Thanks.
Sonny, a couple of my thoughts here. The Rogue P-3 is a standalone pull-up bar. It will most likely be sturdier than utilizing the pull-up bar on the SML series stands. Can you do what you're looking to do on the stands? Absolutely! There will be some wobble when doing muscle up type work. The positive with the stand is that you can use it for every core lift also. On top of that you can upgrade the stands with the half rack conversion kit which gives extra stability to the uprights and will weigh the base down a lot. This could potentially make it rock solid. I don't have one to test at this time, but budgeting for it in the near future!
@@motivationhw yeah I don’t plan on upgrading stands so SML 1 with P-3 will suit me better. Heard great things about their standalone pull up bars being rock solid. Thanks again.

Is the back floor cross member far enough back to allow incline bench press?
