Thank you! I pretty much matched your settings and it came out perfectly! I've been messing with the settings for far too long; thankful I came across your video.
Finally found it. Your video help consumers a lot, we’ll appreciated. Starting today I am your avid fan haha. Thank you so much.
Welcome aboard!
Great job! Yours is the first video to slowly and clearly explain how to adjust the burr settings. Your explanations are excellent. Maybe have the music a little softer next time? I don’t want to miss any advice!👍💯
Thank you so much for the encouragement. I will make sure that I will lower the level of music in the background.
you can consider weighing your beans after its ground into the portafilter. Usually 18 in, probably out is about 17 or lesser if the retention in the grinder is high
yeah that's a good idea. I will try that!
What an espresso man, that looks delicious
thank you buddy!
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore you are welcome, I will try the same settings, since I'm new with barista pro and my coffee brewing time is only 20 SEC's
@@Zlurpa You can do a manual shot by controlling how long you want the preinfusion time to be and how long you want to run the shot. My suggestion is to try aiming for 18g of beans and 36 g of espresso liquid. Forget about the time first. Taste the coffee and look at the flow of espresso. If it taste good and the espresso flow like honey, you would have hit the sweet spot!
By the way to do the custom time setting, just press the double shot button and hold it down. The time you hold it is meant to control the preinfusion timing (usually I do 7 to 8 seconds of preinfusion) and then you can release the button and let the pump kick in and now make sure you have a scale to measure the mass of the espresso extracted. When the scale reads between 34 to 35g you will release the button and you should be able to get 36 to 38g of espresso which is pretty much 1:2 ratio.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore Tried your settings, man what an espresso I had, so flavoured and easy to drink, will order Martella coffee now, many thanks for your video 🙌
About the scale, maybe it was acting up because it was leaning on the breville and messing up with weighing surface
You are absolutely right, I saw my own video at time 4:41 and realized that the silicon mat on the scale is resting on the machine body. Thank you for being so observant!
Good music but a tad bit loud :) do you have a link for the scale?
yeah. thanks for the feedback. I am still learning the balance between background music and commentary. I will do better next time! The digital scale you mean? This is a scale design to use for V60 drip coffee and i am sure you can find it locally.

Great video !!!! I have one of them and the coffee ☕️ is the best !!!! In love 🥰 with my coffee maker !!!!!
Me too!! and I have been enjoying the coffee I made with the Pro since day 1 back in September 2019.
Hi - thank you i appreciate your channel - about Barista Pro - i have the same coffee machine, and i just recently had an issue where brewing stops at 5 seconds , well machine is still under warranty and Breville is coming to pick it for repair. Hope it doesn't take a long time to return, however i will take you advise in future to warm up the machine with a manual shot for 10 seconds before brewing coffee. So my current Burr grind setting is 5, i never had the bubble issue, i will sure try size 3 , my Machine display grind setting is 7 and grind time is 14 seconds. My Single cup double basket shot is around 16 seconds for 22 G coffee. I will try your settings hopefully when my machine comes back from repair.
First of all, thank you for liking my channel and its comments like yours propel me to make more. And hope it helps someone who are also using the Barista Pro like me.
Yeah the warming up is good for long run and hope your machine is OK and won't spend too much time in service. Do share with me how it goes and what kind of things Breville do to make the problem go away.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore. I am surprised to have this issue as i really look after my machine, was expecting a bit more reliability as it was expensive when i bought. Yeah thank you i have subscribed and will hopefully learn what's wrong and give an update :)
@@aquaman5464 Yes its the same situation as me. I take care to clean the machine really well and to use it with care. But it seems none of these are as important when the parts or soldering are crappy.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore yes correct you are right, they have a lot of good technology into this machine however perhaps cheaped out on some components. I really love this machine but if i have to chose an alternative I would go for the Gaggia Classic Pro and a good grinder. But then again i am so spoiled by the barista pro's convenient features haha, very nice machine.
@@aquaman5464 It is nice. But I personally find that as the machine aged, the temperature of the brew became less consistent. I will soon be moving on to an E61 heat exchanger machine with dedicated grinder. It will be revealed soon on my channel!
Great work! Looks good
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome video mate! Just wondering what was your extraction time and yield amount as I can’t seem to find this on your shots?? Cheers
Happy to see this video, I just recently purchased the same unit excited to explore it. Do you a good grinder setting for decaf beans? (eg. Lavazza, illy or other decaf brand).
grind setting on the Barista Pro is very subjective. You really have to take your time to dial in.
I didn’t know you could do that! Great video. Also, I noticed your grinders sound relatively quietly when running empty. I maintain and clean mine regularly. Curious to see if I can do anything in terms of maintenance on the grinder? Thanks in advanced!
Lower the music volume so we can hear you speak.
Thanks and it has been improved in my newer videos.
Why add such a loud music. I can hardly hear you over the music.
Yeah this is one of the earlier videos of mine testing on background music. Sorry about the loud music and soft voice.
thank you SO MUCH. it was so helpful. I have a question for you. I have been testing the water temperature and at the highest setting it still is at 77 degress Celcius. according to my research, the espresso should be brewed at a temp of 95-105. aprox. Do you have any comments about it? I am doing something wrong?
Hi in my quest to find out the brew temperature, I place my thermal couple probe into the portafilter so that the probe can detect the temperature of the water as it flows out from the group head. I am not sure which part of temperature do you take and in my experiment, water can reach up to 95 degrees Celsius without any issue.
Hi, i think i might have accidentally adjusted the outer grind settings while the grinder was working. Ever since then i could never get the correct coffee flow. Coffee flow is always lesser than 25s and when i increase the grind size or flows lover to maybe max 31s and the coffee ends too light tasting and watery. My current settings are inner burr 4 and outer is 7. I've tried everything, but coffee has been bad tasting ever since the accident grind change while the grinder was running.
You mentioned something not changing the settings while grinder is running? That part wasn't audible in your video due to the grinder running.
Could you kindly enlighten me again?
Thank you!
The best is to check the zero point again and try to start from grind setting of 10 on the stock burr. It maybe too fine for darker roast but it's a good point to start.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore what is the zero point setting? And when you say stock setting 10, you mean the outer grind setting or inner burr?
Sorry I got mixed up with another grinder. I believe if you are getting little liquid this means that grind setting is too fine. The bigger the number on the outer ring is coarser. So you may need to increase the outer ring setting number. The side dial is for micro adjustment.
Sorry about the bad audio. You should only adjust the grind size when the grinder is running as there maybe beans that are stucked in the burrs when rhe grinder is not grinding. If you force the adjustment while the grinder stops may actually cause issue.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore i see.. thanks a lot! I'll give that a try and see. One last question, is the inner burr setting of 4 too fine? What would you recommend?
@@rocknrolla4378 what is your current setting and what is the extraction amount and time.
why have music when talking? can hardly hear you.
Hi there, thank you for your video. Would like to ask you, it seems like I can’t match the pressure gauge with the extraction flow on the breville barista express. When the flow is optimal the pressure gauge is too High, when the pressure is at the espresso range, the flow is too fast. Would appreciate Any advice on this . Is the pressure gauge very important to hit optimally on the barista express. Thank you once again
it's only a reference. Most importantly it's how the espresso taste like.👍👍
Hi i noticed that you are still pulling/pouring coffee at about 14 seconds. instead of 30seconds (widely recommended on internet). is that the Barista Pro setting?
I'll save you time. He switched the internal grinder setting from 6 to 3.
Yes I did
What was your final adjustment to the internal burs? Is your shot time between 25-30 seconds? Great video!
Hi Scott, my final setting in the internal burr is 3. Thank you for your kind comment!
Good video, except the music is too loud it’s hard to hear what he is saying
yeap. I have since improved on that. Thanks for tje feedback
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore looking forward to watching more of your videos 👍
@@coocooforcoffee4248thank you for the support mate!
Hi, what is your grind size n grind amount for a single shot? Thnaks!
I don't usually do single shot. But when I do, I will do 10 to 11g and about 20 seconds.
for grind size it will depends on the types of beans and how fresh are the beans. Have to waste some beans to dial in.
helpful video thanks . whats your basket type dual wall or single wall ?
hi its single wall double shot basket
This is a very helpful video, thanks very much. Just had a question about the pro's steam wand. I noticed mine has 4 holes, and when pointed 180 degrees to the tray, steam emits from all 4 holes. But when I tilt the wand in any direction, steam only comes from the bottom 2 holes. I ensured that the holes were not plugged. Is this normal or is my machine not putting out enough pressure (ie, is my machine defective)? Thanks very much.
My steam tip has 4 holes as well. All the Pro model has 4 holes steam tip. As for the uneven steam production when the steam wand is tilted, I will test it and let you know soon. My personal take is if it steam properly, there is nothing much to worry about.
The sound went out half way though this video
Does this stainless steel unit machine’s steam wand has the issue where sometimes one switch to the steam mode, the microchip doesn’t engage thermocoil and generate steam?
Not with this model of mine. It does eventually have the 3s beeps which is infamous among the bes878 and eventually leading me to sell the machine and move away from Breville.
I did exactly how you did but didn't work bro , do you think the machine is not working well ?
which part of your machine is not working?
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore I just bought it bro but the problem it flows too fast I tried the grind dose 18 g 19 g and 20 g with the grind size first 5 and then 4 ,3 2 and 1 and didn't work I did the same with the hopper but didn't change at all , for 2 shots cups goes between 35 40 seconds and 120 ml of coffee
@@ibramarinos9990 Adjust the inner burr setting
Hi,
I’m wondering if your using a pressurised or non pressurised basket? Also is it the double or single one your using in your tutorial?
Much appreciated
I only uses the non pressurised double shot basket! Hope it helps.
Was this video about the internal grinder being cleaned accordingly and setting it to a value of 3? Or did I miss something?
Hi this is a video where I help a friend to try to get the correct grind settings by adjusting the inner burr from default 6 to 3. As I adjust the inner burr, I also did some cleaning at the same time.
So I indeed have the same problem, a too fast pour with the bubbles, but.. when I lower the internal burr number from 6 to anything lower I can hear a slight metal on metal scratching. That worries me for it might degrade the whole burr system. Any ideas on it? For now I'll just go for the 6 with lowest setting, hopefully a good clean will solve most of it.
that should not happen as you can go down to 1. Check with your local breville agent.
what is the reason you have to bring down internal grinder to 3? other users keep it at 6 and the result is excellent too. Is it just the beans or are there production differences? btw: i turned my sage grinder down to 3 too.
This is for my friend's machine. Not mine. My is perfect at inner burr setting of 6. Reason for bringing down the inner burr setting to 3 is the extraction is too fast and he needs to grind finer.
Hello. What is the thing you used before the tamper that came with the machine? Is that another tamper?
Hi this additional device is called distributor. It doesn't come with the espresso machine. Have to purchase separately.
Turn your music down, also your audio went out a couple of times, otherwise good video

there are many factors. Most important is the grind setting if you are using fresh beans. Sadly breville machine are quite bad when it comes to build in grinder.

SO the solution was to decrease the grind size?
yes on the prerequisite that the beans are fresh.
Is this grind setting for martella maximum bean only?
The setting will change depending on the beans, roast level, relative humidity, pressure...etc etc.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore thank you, so this setting is best for martella maximum, which I ordered
@@Zlurpa yes but you have to fine tune it as roasting may not be the same.
I need help. I'm a newbie. Just bought the barista pro. I'm using the double size portafilter and not double wall. After dispensing, I take out the portafilter and sometimes the puck is sticking up top. What am I doing wrong. Sometimes after I take out, the puck isn't stuck but the puck os wet on top and not dry. What am I doing wrong. Also I'm using a distributor but not tamping after as I heard coffee tastes better. Help me out
is your extraction watery or slow to a drips? At first I also distribute without tamping. But as different coffee beans when grind will give you different volume of coffee as some are more fluffy than others. By distributing it doesn't always give the right tamp. I will always distribute first then still tamp, but my temping strength will depend on how fluffy I feel when I push down. If its hard already then I won't tamp further. If it is fluffy and still have room to move down, I will tamp harder. As for the puck stuck, it happen sometime if we extract for too long. I wont be too worry about it.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore im currently using lavassa espresso. What grind setting and duration do u have yours set on? I could use yours then make adjustments from there
@@johnarevalo3450 ok Lavazza is supermarket beans. Depends on the roast date. If its roasted within 2 months should be ok. Once it reaches 4 to 5 months, its not good anymore. I will try!
I have a coffee at the moment that requires a very fine grind. My internal burr was set at 6. I have now set it at 2 and grind size on machine is 1. I still get very fast shot and under extraction. Any other advice?
you can try to adjust the internal burr to 5 and start external coarse setting at 10. Give it a try!
Caffe Martella Singapore thanks. I actually had to go to internal burr setting 1 and external grind size 1. The finest the machine can do and it couldn’t handle this coffee so in the end I had to brew with the hario v60 🤣
Damn it feels good to be a gangster
When u adjust the burr, is there supposed to have a clicking sound?
The internal burr? I didn't pay attention to but I will when I try to do cleaning the next time.
Notice u said something like you can only adjust the grind setting while it is grinding? Can’t heard thru the grinding noise..
@@kennethlimwz Yea adjust the burr only when y r grinding the beans.
How often should I clean the grinder?
I will do it once a month
Looked like excellent content. Unfortunately I could, at times, still faintly hear you talking over the music.
Thanks for the feedback. It has been improved since then. 👍
Normally you set grind size is 2 or 5?
it depends on beans. I adjust the grind size every time I change beans.
I've noticed that beans themselves throw a monkey wrench to settings most of the time. Did an experiment here ua-cam.com/video/mGYCrWl0TOs/v-deo.html and it made me stop hopping from bean to bean (pun intended)
Yes this is true. With a change of beans, we need to readjust the grind. However, if the beans are fresh, it is much easier to dial in.
I truly feel you. But because I roast my own beans...and hence I enjoy switching the beans and re-dialing in.
is that a single wall or dual wall basket?
I only use single wall basket!
Background music is beyond unnecessary for educational content with narration.
thank you for the valuable feedback!
Where can I buy the dosing ring?
Hi you can get one here.
www.etsy.com/uk/listing/805950008/54mm-coffee-dosing-funnel-for-breville
Hi there, do you always have to make sure the pour for the double shot is between 25-30 seconds? Or is it more importaint to check the volume and quality of the shot? I just got barista pro today and i asjusted the internal burr to 4 and i cant get the pour to start after 7 seconds and i can't get the pour to last longer than 20 seconds. The coffee looks and tastes alright but the pour times are not right according to the "pros" or even the instruction manual says the pour should start at least after 8 seconds. Pretty frustrsting. Im using fresh beans. Will try to adjust the internal burr down even lower.
it is just a guide to aim to extract 36g of coffee if u use 18g of coffee ground in 30 seconds. That is a guide to see if u are pulling a good shot. If its slightly too fast or slightly too slow, as long as the coffee taste good, its all right. I will do a video trying to make it easier to understand about the 1:2 ratio and timing.
@@CaffeMartellaSingapore thanks mate. Your videos are very helpful. Keep up the good work ✌
I am by no mean a "pro" or "experienced" but think of the ratio and extraction time as 3 corners of the triangle. The "IDEAL" position to be is 1:2 and between 25-34s. If the extraction time is too quick, try to add more beans and/or a finer ground, if you have already added the maximum of bean that allows for a shot then try to tamp it down harder.
The final thing to remember is that taste is purely "SUBJECTIVE". You may be able to get the "IDEAL" setting but the coffer might taste like sh*t (to you, of course). I see all these people get so hung up on the numbers that I think is such a waste of time. As long as you get the "best" cup of coffee to your taste, who gives a sh*t if it took the machine 2 seconds or 2 minutes to pull.
yes starting at 3 may solve part of the issue as you go finer. The finer you go the higher chance of channelling and choking. It a balance of grind size, proper distribution and tamping. Yeah there is a learning curve and you just got the machine!Take it easy and play around with different settings. What's most important is does it taste right for you. The "Pro" recommendation is just a guide. A good starting point.
@@chungpham9460 well I believe there is ratio behind for that good shot that most people will agree and I too am trying to use that as a base to try to get that good shot. I believe if you are willing to spend $$$ on an expensive semi automatic espresso machine, I will be willing to spend time dialing in to get that perfect cup to your own tasting. I agree with "too hung up" on the numbers. As I have mentioned, it serves as a starting point. But eventually it is what it taste like to you which is paramount.
Great video! Maybe you should weigh out the 18g beans before doing the video haha. I have my way of doing them which is a lot easier than yours so was hard to watch 🤣
