We bought this twin engine Grumman Cougar GA-7 off of Ebay after it was crashed. We fixed it up to fly it home, but will it make it the 500 miles home? This was a huge project and we got it done in eight days, which is longer than we thought it would take. We definitely far surpassed our budget, but can we still make a profit off of it? Find out in this episode of Rebuild Rescue!

Condolences to Sam's family, your team and all who called this true gentleman a friend. RIP, Sam.
Sorry to hear what happened today with the cougar today. My thoughts with the family.
So very sorry to hear about Sam and the Grumman Cougar you just rescued. My thoughs and prayers go out to Rebuild Rescue, Sam's family and friends. Sam was a true gentleman and a great pilot. RIP Sam. I am still in shock.
Oh my, so sorry to hear. Thoughts and Prayers to this gentleman's family and friends for their loss.....
The lessons I have learned from your channel are more about gratitude, team work, cooperation, redemption of men and machine, unity in purpose, encouragement, and valuing others. I am deathly scared of flying but do it anyway. Watching your channel brings out the best in everyone you encounter. You are providing a rally point in a stressed out and selfish world. Thanks for rescuing more then planes.....your rescuing people.....even those that just watch the channel.😂
That means more than you know Brother, thank you for your dedication to the channel and all the love you show us here at the hangar. We truly would not be where we are today without people like you on the channel. Thank you
@@rebuildrescue If you only knew how this channel affected my life. I had to leave medicine because I chose not to take the jab. Then hell unleashed it's fury and over the next several months, we totaled our truck, I fell and broke several ribs, got covid, got a blood clot in my lungs taking out 60 percent of my right lung capacity, had a heart episode in which I should have died. Through it all God saw me through. It has taken two years to recover. Your channel help to restore faith in people, dream dreams and go for it with an all out abandonment and the lessons I mentioned above. I have been humbled and tested by the fire. Watching you push through that horrific injury got my ass out of the chair and rehabbing. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
@@MaMa-st2eg As I sat here and read your message I couldn’t help getting a bit emotional and inspired. Thank you for sharing your story. It’s means the world to the whole team that you spend some of your time here with us. Keep your chin up and push through it ! 💪🏼👍🏼
And that's the bottom line cus STONE COLD SAID SO!
Totally agree with you. The team work is incredible and they have fun doing it.
Condolences to Sam's family and all at Rebuild Rescue.
So happy to see the Cougar back in the air again!
Budget? What budget?
Thanks again for being my Saturday morning entertainment for the last couple of years. My RR family rocks!
BeardedAv8r
Couldn't ask for a better Rescue Crew here on the channel, thank you for keeping us going!!
Dude, you (with a lil help from your friends) fixed a double prop strike plane in 7 days! You came in under budget, and the knowledge gained will likely save you more $$$ in the future. Just like in The Blues Brothers, you need a new cigarette lighter. Glad to see you flying a twin. Stay safe. ☮
Thank you for all the positivity you bring to the channel, it means so much! We are glad you enjoyed the rebuild!
I was wondering if anyone else noticed that, my 2004 Toyota Tacoma still has its cigarette lighter, that’s a forgotten relic now.
you may not make a ton of money on it but the satisfaction of repairing instead of scrapping is awesome. I love it when I can rebuild something instead of replacing it. such a throw away world we live in now.
We love bringing life to these projects, it's awesome you do the same! We're glad you found the channel 👍🏻👍🏻
might not make a ton of money hahahahaha sure buddy
Agreed, I rebuild & refurbish appliances for a living and sell them for a quarter to half of what they were new and try to keep the older ones in the market as long as possible since all these new appliances since the 2015’s are straight throw away garbage now.
Sad world we live in, it’s corporate greed period.
Right on Jason log that twin time so when the 401 is ready you can be the PIC on the maiden flight. Brian was awesome. Joe and the rest of the Rescue team all rock. Keep up all the good work y'all do.
Man unfortunate to hear about this and Sam. My condolences to everyone and the team this is sad. 😥
Good to see you get your multi cert Jason. Now, once ready, you can have a ton of fun at the controls of the Phoenix! Well done my man!
"Hey welcome to rebuild rescue, I know you guys just cant wait for another 401 update, and in todays episode we're going on a whole new adventure to buy Steffan the guy who takes out the trash a set of custom orthotics"!
The low pass by Mr Brian was too good and comforting, all hard work and money paid off, and really appreciate Mr.Brian polished the aircraft and looked as new
Nice to see you working with Brian! I believe he used to tow me as I learned to fly Schweitzers, etc at Marshall Soaring. Since I moved out, I’ve often wondered how they are doing? Looks like the Grob still hangs in the hanger. It was great club with a lot of dedicated leaders like Brian. Thx for bringing us along 😊😊😊 John Ken
One in the same, still wrenching and flying here
Hi Jason. Glad to see the Cougar back on the air again. I can only imagine the thrill you and your team had experienced when you saw her taking off the runway for the first time in 2 years; spacially with all the hard work and long nights behind it. Guys like you are an inspiration for jounger generations to follow: REPAIR, NOT REPLACE; RECICLE, NOT JUST BUY NEW. Put some heart into your life, not only money.
As always, cheers from NE Patagonia, Argentina. Side note: I follow a few aviation related channels, and the Mike Patey´s "Back To Work" module seems to infiltrate the community... just saying... in a good way.
It was an awesome project to complete, thank you for keeping the faith and supporting our crazy ideas! And thank you for the recommendation!!
@@rebuildrescue Thank YOU for answering. See you next Saturday, cheers.
Well, I caught you all bright & early in Northern California. It was so awesome to watch the Cougar fly! Those low passes were awesome! She got you home safe & sound! You got some twin time in couldn't ask for a better day! Thank you to all the Companies that pitched in & shared their knowledge & time! Things are so crazy these days it's so nice to see people coming together working hard, but having fun doing what you all love to do, with passion for rebuilding Airplanes & flying! ❤❤❤😅😅😅 I got my 401 T shirt in the mail!!! Love it!!! Thank you!!! ❤
This was one of my favorite videos so far, seeing the Cougar flying again after watching you and the team put in an incredible amount of work made my morning. That air-to-air with Bobby was some of the best footage I've yet to see on your channel. Congrats!!
Awesome job again guys, great to see the cougar flying again. Congratulations! Let’s focus on the 401!👍👍
lol
Man! What a beautiful Saturday Awesomeness!! The Cougar is saved and it's back in the sky! The mission was successful and everyone is happy! Seeing a pair of Cougars flying wing to wing gives a unique breath of happiness! I wish you an Amazing new year, and as always, keep up the Great work! ❤️
Glad you enjoyed the upload Stoyan, thank you for your well wishes!! Happy new year!
Congratulations, Jason , to you and all your crew on restoring and saving this fine bird! In addition to covering your costs and making a profit, consider the value of having expanded your knowledge base. By having this rescue under your belt, you’ll know what to look for in completing the 401 and beyond. This adventure is absolutely priceless! Well done, RR Team!
That means the world to all of us here at the channel! Thank you for your dedication and support, we wouldn't be here without you all!
Great looking plane. Glad you should be able to make a profit. I'm like you, I think saving planes from rotting away is a noble cause. Good work to all who participated on this rescue!
Honestly we need more Rebuild Rescues out here in the world, because every plane you guys save from the parts bin is another GA plane out there flying. The size of the GA fleet has a direct impact on prices, and thus on how many people can access GA. I want everyone who ever had the dream to fly out there able to fly. Its incredible how you guys took a plane with a prop strike back to flying on that budget and within that time period.
Great to see some diversity on this channel. Would be nice to see some colabs with more pilots of color, of which there are many on UA-cam.
My favorite channel on UA-cam .401 next ?
Very exciting to see all the work and the people who aided in the recovery of this Sky Cougar ! Congrats Fellas - Joe get some sleep ! Sam must be proud of you Jason ! God bless you guys and the 401 !
Congratulations on a great airplane nice to see previous owner there for first flight
Deepest condolences to you and all the crew. Keep the faith and keep looking up.
Sam would tell you it's clear on top!
Dear Jason,
It’s for me very special to see this 1978 Grumman GA-7 Cougar back in the air again but I knew from the first moment on this will be a success story. Now you even made a reasonable profit by selling the plane for $ 110 K makes this adventure even more successful.
I look forward to your next vlog in which you hopefully will go on with the Cessna 401.
Send you love from the Netherlands
Thank you for your constant support, we wouldn't be here without it!
Makes me really happy to see the Cougar saved, I’ve really enjoyed this series a lot! The 401 project is awesome, but smaller projects like this will keep the channel in my favorites for a long time.
Also 89k for a flying twin is really a steal. I’m glad it worked out for a profit!
Saturday Awesomeness! Good morning everyone!
Good morning! Thank you for stoping by!
every time i see elite craftsmen at work in videos like this, it always fills me with hope for the future of humanity 👍🏻
Awesome, that means a lot to the team!!
❤
Congratulations Jason and all that worked on the Cougar. The satisfaction is palpable. Great job.
Yes! Thank you Mark! Glad to have you apart of the channel!
Thanks for sharing this, Next up the 401 will be a moment in history when it does it's maiden flight. Awesome job to the everyone who participated in the Cougar.
Thanks for watching! With a great team and a supportive Rescue Crew, we'll get the 401 up there in no time!
It's amazing to see this plane in the sky. Congratulations and thanks for taking us along for the ride
The old saying about Aviation and profit, the only way to make a small fortune, in Aviation is to start out with a large one.
Congratulations Jason it does look really cool when you fly low , I once made a low pass over my mates work shed where all his workers were having a Christmas break up only telling my friend that I was coming. When I passed over I came from the opposite end so they didn't know I was coming.
My mate said it was the best thing ever to see them s#t their pants as I was only 100 ft over the shed and they only knew as I was over them.
Gave them a little show and they all thought it was the best.
Much love and fly safe from Australia 🇦🇺
Hey Jason I know you will see this and I think it's great that you are helping rescue other planes. That being said I am not invested in the other vehicles you are restoring the way I am on the 401. This might sound funny but it gives me the feeling you would get when seeing a buddy cheat on his wife when I see you work on other planes lol You built this channel from the ground up with the 401 vids popularity. Rather than focus your time and energy on these other planes I'd much rather hear any and all updates on the 401 even if the videos about it are about the smallest updates I still would rather see those. And after the 401 is finally up and running then I think it would be appropriate to start seeing other people aka fixing other planes lol Just my two cents. Keep up the great work!
I love seeing how people good at their job come together, and saved this plane! Thanks for taking us along for this amazing rescue. I hope the next owner of it will show it the love you guys did!
Projects are a lot more fun with such a great team to work with! Thank you for following along and believing in us!
Awesome video Jason! Glad you are getting your twin engine certification. Make sure to watch Dan Gryder and learn his scenario based flying techniques to keep you safe and alive. Love the channel, love the 401 rescue, and all the other great works you are doing. We need you around and safe to continue! Can't wait for the next episode of the 401.
Thank you for continuing to be a rock to us here on the channel with all the support you send our way, and thank you for the tip! Have a restful weekend Brother
Awesome teamwork on the Cougar Jason! Oh, and nice landing! Looking forward to seeing the 401 flying! You and the Rebuild rescue Crew, Rock!!
Sam the Man is going to be jealous of the short formation Cougar flight. You're gonna have to repeat with 887 and his Cougar. 🛩🛩
So sorry to hear about Sam Jason and deepest condolences to all involved. Hang in there.
Wow that's awesome. Totally thought you were going to come out underwater on this rescue but selling the cougar in FL really saved your bacon. Plus that saves you from having to figure out how to take care of that one, too, and likely will provide parts to keep other cougars in the sky. Good work here.
Also I didn't comment on the last video where Joe got his teeth but I'm still kind of stunned by that kind of generosity. Just don't see that every day and shows you aren't just talking about doing good things for people but that you actually mean it. God bless and thanks for your great channel!
Test flight: 100%! Who in their right mind would go up in a plane thinking OMG? I don't think this thing is at 100% reliability??!!
Cool to see the Couger back up in the air where it belongs. Fantastic work Jason and crew. That’s another one saved and I’m sure it will go to a home where it will be looked after. Thanks for the video take care and have a great week ahead of you
Drink every time you hear “cougar” 😉
Determining when a sun will touch the horizon is to extend your hand and count the amount of fingers between the horizon and the bottom of the sun. Each finger is equal to 15 minutes. Looking at the sunset with the amount of time you needed, I knew you were out of time. BTW, a girl scout taught this old Eagle Scout that trick. One of the best dates I ever had in college.
Thank you and all the sponsors. My daughter and me are thinking about doing the same as you. Minde you at a slower pace. I will be contacting all of your sponsors for help and guidance.
You can do it!
This is how GA will stay alive, people like you keeping these planes alive for future Aviators.
Nice job guys!
Oh god these comments are hilarious to read after dumby mcdumb crashed his junkplane.
The 1968 Firebird has so many more positives vs. the 1967. I know you like the 1969...while considered part of the "1st generation", it could be in a league of it's own. I just don't like how long the 69 is, but I love that color! That would be a sick color on a plane ;)
Hello from the UK. Fantastic climax to the Cougar rescue. This has been a fascinating chapter to the channel which I now realise I've been following for over 2 years now.
Absolutely incredible. Makes me more appreciative and aware when I go to PDK, here in Ga, and plane watch. I am seriously mulling over getting a license to fly. Congrats on another plane saved and definitely looking forward to seeing the The Phoenix rising back into the clouds where she belongs.
Thank you for watching and supporting Brother! I've almost got my license, it's a lot of work but it is worth it! And I can't wait to fly the Phoenix !!👍🏻
That Cougar looks and sounds sweet. Hope she finds a good home.
Dude seeing the two cougars in the air doing a little formation flying was awesome. What a special moment. Imagine when this video is of the 401 finally taking the skies again. I bet tears will be shed that day.
Yes it was a reunion
Well done. All the smiles paid for the work that was done.
Getting to upload all this process to your channel definitely helps offsetting the cost. Hope it keeps giving you the margin to tackle these rescues
Hey Jason!!!
I'm here watching the 7CC "first flight"
Yo looks like a child in the park ...
Also I have to say I like so much the Black Cessna Skymaster parked back the Cougar.
I'm so happy with this story...
Hugs from Argentina 🇦🇷
Way to go Jason. I have done redone 4 airplanes with new props, all new engine tubes and hoses, plugs and electronic ignition and all new garmin avionics and adi’s, hsi’s and engine monitors and interiors. It is worth it just to see these airplanes flying for another 25 to 30 years with all new stuf. Great job guys.
Congrats, you guys were awesome! Double props forever!! Thanks again for rescuing planes and soon lives!! Stay safe out there!!
We appreciate all the support Tim! Wouldn't be where we are today without the positivity you all bring to the channel and to each of us!
Use grip lock zip ties. They are rubber lined and reusable. Great for avaiation and it's a Mike/Mark Patey company.
I am a licensed A and P mechanic with an IA. I worked for a part 135 and 145 shop. I managed the part 145 for 20 years. I have extensive experience on the Cessna 300 and 400 series aircraft along with many others. Your T Hanger maintenance is dangerous!
Awesome team work and awesome sponsors.
Congrats Jason! Good to see another plane rescued 🎉
More to come! Glad to see you stop by the channel Brother👍🏻
That's was an awesome job!! congrats to all those people who worked on this project. Another plane flying again. I'm sure you'll get more than 110 grands, because this plane has Rebuild Rescue's hands and heart on it, that means a lot. Regards.
Jason, WELL DONE brother!!!!
Thank you Brother !
Another shout out here from Anchorage, Alaska!! Started following while I was going through A&P college in Fairbanks, Alaska, now working AK Airlines!!!
That's awesome, thank you for sharing! The crew here at the hangar says good luck with all your endeavors!
That was cool getting to see her finally in the air. I can only imagine how y’all felt! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for following along on this adventure!
Good Saturday morning RR crew! Cougar is coming along nicely. Good luck!
Thank you for watching and supporting! We're glad you are enjoying this adventure!
Nice job So happy to see you all making changes that matter. Keep on Truckin !!!
We're glad you enjoyed the episode, thank you for all the positivity!
Ty and Happy New year all.
Nice job Team Rebuild Rescue! So good to watch it take off and those low fly overs were simply awesome! #Jason, what thrill it must've been for you piloting you first twin.
I haven't purchased any merchandise from you website but I did support your sponsors Kove Audio and True Classic. You were right as their T-Shirts are the most comfortable I've ever experienced and love my Kove Bluetooth speakers. I'd would absolutely be thrilled to win the Mustang so I hope supporting your sponsors somehow qualifies me for the Mustang drawing.
Again, congrats on getting the Cougar flying once again.
I watch your program all the time. I really like it.
keeping these older airplanes flying is the best part.
Owned a ‘78 Cougar for 5 years. Best light twin then and now. Cost less to operate and maintain than the Light Sport I own now. It’s still going strong at the same airport on Long Island I had it at. Grumman/Gulfstream built them right. Too bad Socata did nothing after purchasing the type certificate, although they put 180’s in their prototype. The Cougar has great ramp presence also. Good Luck with your’s.
So glad to see the Cougar finally flying! Awesome content! Great to see you logging some left seat hours! Congratulations Jason and crew!
We appreciate you stopping by the channel this morning! Glad you enjoyed the episode 👍🏻
Thanks Jason , been following you since Covid, love spending Saturday mornings getting updated.. 401 4 ever!!
Awesome! Thank you for being apart of the channel and supporting us through ups and downs!
One more saved. That's the point!
Well done and happy new year to the crew.
Awesome. Enjoy watching your rescues. Keep it up guys. Thanks for the video.
Our pleasure! Thank you for watching and supporting us!
Yea, a completed rescue! Been watching from the 1st 401 vid. This is my Sunday morning ritual with a cup of coffee.
Also for the GPS I suggest you install an Annunciator Control Unit - looks like there may be space where the rego sticker is. The Mid Continent MD41 series are what I commonly see.
Keep up the good work.
Man, this was so much fun to watch and it felt a bit as living together with you guys towards the moment that thing took for the sky for the first time in 2 years.
Damn it must be so satisfying after all that work to see it back in the sky again.
You guys must be living the dream, although it all may start as a nightmare but when a project comes to an end and it all works out all the rest is forgotten.
Looking forward for another episode of Rebuild Rescue !
Thank you for following along with us, you all are the best part of this channel, and we're so glad you enjoy the content as much as we enjoy making it! We wouldn't be here without you and your positive messages!
🎉 Fantastic Work 🎉 you never gave up. Have a great weekend guys
Thank you for believing in us Joe, it means a lot! Have a great weekend
That would be an awesome color on the 401 😊.....and you mentioned the Trans Am I cant wait for you to get going on that 😊
Excellent job!! Very impressive project management and workmanship!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Always fun times with a great team and supportive family here on the channel!
The team is great to work with, even joe 😅lol
Another great video. I had no doubt you would get her rescued. Happy new year, Jason.
Happy new year! Thank you for being apart of the channel!
Great job. Such a Beautiful plane.
Great job guys. Hats off to Brian he is a super nice guy that does an excellent job. You really need him on your team. Love it when you save an airplane from being scrapped. Can’t wait for the next one. Also I do think you should consider using that color for the 401. Really looks good.
Thanks for the compliment, and yes it's looking like I'm now part of the great team offering up some needed missing pcs
You guys are the best. Such thorough work. Just amazing!!!
Ok, a new want. I want the Corvette that's in the background! 1969 Corvette is my dream car! Last year wife said I could buy one. But, we bought a family fishing boat instead.
Wiring on these planes would be a nightmare. There's no room for mistakes. So glad you have a competent team to help you get everything put together.
Well done.. another one saved....onto the next one :)
Amazing keep up the great work guys
Thank you so much!
I agree with you , and the profit goes to the 401. Way to go team 👏
There is nothing like finishing a restoration. Well done Jason and RR
Couldn't agree more! Thank you
for believing in us!
Great job Jason i enjoy this rescue n you can now get back to the 401 pheonix , rescue
Did my instrument rating in a Cougar happy days👍👍
WTG! Diligence and dedication to the efforts pays off once again.
Have to say, I really like seeing you in the left seat. What a great end to a great little series.
That is the nature of Aviation Maintenance. You always bust your budget and you never meet your time schedule.
Hey, its the ..uh..."Mariheeshee Mahesh Yogi" I butchured the name but he was the transcendental guru dude. He got it done and giving you a huge hour count for the A&P bill! Enjoy lol! HEY, whats that falling out of the sky behind you Jason at 28:42??? lol...ya, vapour trail.
Seeing the Cougar, making a low pass, what comes to Mind? " Out of the blue of the western sky comes Sky King. "
Gee, I watched "Sky King" as a child all those many years ago. Brings back some good memories.
So, you identify as Penny (@@lindamorrison9755 🤣😂
Love it! This really makes me want to speed up my multi-engine search!
