Love the new Alpine unit. Definitely gonna be my next head unit.
Test it at your local install shop display. The interface is pretty nice.
Thanks for the link to this video. I agree that seems like the best current way to bridge the gap between tablet integration and current car audio head units. 🍻
Definitely, and a lot of other manufacturers are following the trend now.
I love my unit, it is mounted in a 2016 Nissan Altima but the only complaint I had was that the unit shook a lot due to the dash kit I had. Thankfully my installer came up with this device that made it rock solid and all was good after that. Great unit, very happy with it.
Victor Laboy Ya they really need a solid mount.
Just got mine installed on a 1984 300d turbo diesel
Dude this is an amazing informative video. Thank you for this man.
Glad you liked it, thank you for watching!
I think its awesome especially for old vehicles because there are often only 1 DIN Radios build in. And with that you can bring old and new tech seamless together.
Thanks for the feedback!
That's my plan, too. Old single-DIN car with no room to expand to double without installing new a/c vents somewhere else. Major surgery.
I noticed a bunch of negative comments about how the screen blocks the vents in this video, note that the screen can be adjusted to sit a little bit lower in the dash to not block the vents, maybe the customer in this case wanted that way, plus it looks like there is enough space between the vents and the Alpine screen so I don’t think is will effect the flow of air much the way it is.
It's not that big of a deal and every vehicle is going to be different. We had it mounted there because that's where he liked viewing it and it was easier to film.
Just bought mine today and getting it installed hopefully its worth every penny and can do a video of my own
I think you'll like it. It's a really well thought out product.
@@AnthonyJ350 i had it installed yesterday and played with it for a bit, couple of extra accessories that i need but a great product as far!! Now getting the wifes car done too
Finally I can update my 2018 Tacoma’s head unit. It’s so outdated and I hate it. This should fit perfect since the dock is about 9 inches
Same here man this is the exact reason I'm looking for a new unit. The entune isnt bad, but it's not that good either
Nice!
If yall don't believe the complication of installing an iPad. As far as making it function and look seamless. Just watch 1 Soundman video lol. Badass product!
matthew3272 This is going to be a huge time saver for a lot of people.
Thanks for the informative video, it's got me excited for mine going in my 93 next week
Nice! Let us know how it turns out!
@@AnthonyJ350 finally installed great little unit, but I get no vehicle info tab on mine 😭 not sure why
@@soulBain25 You have to install it with Idatalink Maestro and only newer vehicles will use that module.
@@AnthonyJ350 ah no idea what they used lol, I'll have to find out thanks for letting me know 👍. Other than that though I do love it lol
Thats quite the assortment of tape you have there.
Ya we stock a variety for interior or exterior applications. We also try to use tape that matches what factory uses so our wiring blends.
You don't compromise the air conditioner vents in the South!
rmm2424 Depends the vehicle you own and the vent location doesn't it? Or you can do Restyle or a standard 7 inch screen.
I don’t understand why he said it would cover the vents anyway. The mount is adjustable making the screen hang below the vents instead of in front of them 😂 he literally said that right before he said you’d compromise the vents
@@Halfstep2024 Depends on the vehicle, so you can move it completely out of the way, others will get partially covered.
Your right it is I just wish they would have went about it different on the look . I've installed a couple of them just not a fan . my personal opinion I like the next XAV-AX5000 . the interface is like no other . thank you for you feed back
Bigd3517 I have installed 3 of the same units and I am not a fan either
But the XAV-AX5000 is a double-DIN unit. That's impossible in my car.
Thanks for the feedback.
I wish Alpine would put more numbers and letters in their products names. LOL "What stereo did you get, man?" "I got the Alpine Halo 9 ILX F309."
That's the same as the video
I've always wanted a radio that would be capable of cast screen
It's pretty cool
You should do more reviews like this
kamryn G I'd like to but it requires a lot of research and time to do these reviews well. I plan to do it once in a while, but right now that's not really the scope of my channel.
MORE COWBELL!!!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Love this head unit...
John Furious Pretty nice right?!
What about an '03 Silverado 1500HD. Only have 4 vents in the whole dash. Wou lent something like this totally block the 2 center vents above and to the side of the unit? I know you have your daily which is the same right? Is this unit doable or impractical.
Steve Alfred In my daily I would just use Alpine's 7 inch screen that would be a flush install. That's what I would do.
Looks great, but it also screams "come break my windows and my locks". Most thieves will know that is not a factory radio on a 94 GM product.
I guess it depends where you park it and your area. Theft is way down in my area because there's no more pawn shops. A custom dash with an iPad might be better for your application
@@AnthonyJ350 eventually everyone has to park where they are vulnerable like a concert, sporting event or the mall during the holidays. This unit is so cool, but it would still look "custom" on my 2019 tundra
@@nightstalker824 ok do a seven inch screen and do this instead ua-cam.com/video/7rl6DSUgmHw/v-deo.html
To he fair, it's not like there is an epidemic of these things being stolen. Maybe the Tundra needs a Security and Remote starter with a flash break sensor and smartphone control?
@@AnthonyJ350 bullshit
I love it! Definitely gonna but this for my 2000 ram 2500. It might block the air vents a little but I been looking for a single din big screen with Apple play and navigation.
People have been very happy with the results so far.
To get the vehicle information im assuming theres a plug that goes from the unit to the OBDII plug right? If so how do i get that cable or whatever cable is needed? I had mine installed by a shop in my classic car and recently did an LS engine swap so im trying to connect the unit to my engine ECU..
It's included with the module harness if the vehicle is compatible.
Vision Electronic in Victoria is installing this in my 2017 Tuscon. Hopefully it works well
Mr Cowan Nice! The installer there is really good.
Love the look!
Chris J Want it in your Focus???
Since it doesn’t have a cage how I’m supposed to use it in the old gmc like u said?
You can order a standard Alpine cage and it will work with it.
AnthonyJ350
Were could I order it from i checked amazon and nothing popped up. I’m just trying to get a touch screen in my project truck. I have a Kenwood regular single din installed right now
@@isaiahalexander6021 Your local Alpine dealer should be able to order it for you.
How is the image quality/clarity of the screen, especially during hdmi video input playback?
See for yourself here. We installed a Playstation under the seat and used it through the HDMI input ua-cam.com/video/vUNh_BWLBAU/v-deo.html
@@AnthonyJ350 this is exactly what I wanted to do. Seems to be the only car radio with HDMI input. I currently have a joying 10"head unit but was looking to upgrade to this due to the joying only having RCA instead of HDMI
@@all4onegaming300 It's a really good unit, we use it again on a motorhome here ua-cam.com/video/pZ93JpzgCcI/v-deo.html
@Rob Roy yea the only thing about that is I don't like needing to rely on the internet. I prefer a wired connection. I just ended up putting another screen on my dash for gaming so now I can watch videos or use the GPS on the joying while gaming. Worked out pretty well.btw you need a playstation if you don't already have one 😉
Called Alpine tech support, this model will not stream video files from a
USB or Blutooth device out the rear video outputs. Only DVD can go out
the rear audio outs. I asked this question 10 years ago to Kenwood and
same issues. These are not cheap units and the processor is lacking. Get
in at least the 20 Century.
What about HDMI to your phone?
Hey buddy how is the bluetooth? Does it work like the factory sounds clear on the phone? Doesn't sound like aftermarket. I had a kenwood indash. And it was trash never use it.
Seemed to work fine when we tested it.
very informative video. great job!
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
i think its stupid to compromise your a/c for a floating screen. defetnetley something stupid to do I can imagine pple on cold weather with the heater on getting that radio super hot not a good thing
michael segarra Its adjustable. We just wanted it higher up.
There are other vents in the vehicle as well.
The problem with what you said was... unfortunately car manufacturers and technology have made it a point that we need to interact with the vehicle more so... its actually not necessary . Eyes on the road is more important!
Then this product isn't right for you. You can upgrade the sound system around the factory head unit. Most vehicles can use more bass.
Does this unit require your phone to be plugged into the unit before you can use Android auto/Carplay?
Only if u want to use the functions of the phone. There's no navigation unless ur phone is connected
There
There is no apply CarPlay without usb wired connection
Yes
Awesome review, my only question if anyone knows is if it supports all around view camera. I have 2015 Nissan Murano, I already bought the din kit but now I held back from buying the unit. I just need to know if it supports that feature I don't want to lose. You know when you put your car in reverse and the screen splits in 2. It shows you a reverse and a birds eye view of your vehicle. Any feedback on this will be greatly appreciated.
If you're all around camera system support a single video input it would work.
Only thing I don't like about this radio is the screen resolution. I've seen it in person and it was pixelated af. Could been at least a 720p screen and I'd prefer physical buttons instead of touch sensitive buttons below screen
Looks pretty good here to me ua-cam.com/video/vUNh_BWLBAU/v-deo.html
Coming from a former tablet install (Nexus 7) in my old 2010 Corolla to my 'new' 2016 Kia Optima I really think this fits the ticket. Just a bit pricey still. Would you say the built in controls are sufficient to not necessitate a DSP for tuning? The main sell point for me would be the ability to maintain most of the car's standard features like steering wheel controls, Bluetooth phone calls etc.
trinigerman It's not that bad in price compared to double din head unit screens. With the parametric EQ you would be able to dial in your sound system along with using an RTA.
AnthonyJ350 Thanks for the feedback. Would still have to factor the cost of whichever plugin retention system I'd have to use to maintain the backup cam, steering and Bluetooth controls, but you're right, taking convenience and simplicity into consideration along with the HUGE screen makes the price point a little more rational.
It does, plus also put this into perspective, yes it is a good amount of money, but compared to purchasing a newer vehicle to get features like this (and probably not as many) retrofitting your current vehicle is significantly cheaper.
I think its stupid that "it blocks the vents". Its adjustable! I was a fan of alpine back in the day until I finally went big on my system and couldnt turn it past 10 without the CD starting to skip. (I'm old). My only concern is how well will it handle major vibration from a series stereo?
You have to factor in not ever vehicle has vents there. If you were unable to have your system go past 10 did you try resetting the gains on your amps? Alpines clip at 25 volume.
@@AnthonyJ350 the vents part was sarcasm. And that setup was in 99 or 2000. I meant skipping because the deck couldn't take the vibration. Went to pioneer, never had that issue again. But now that everything is flash drive (or I run thro pandora) this looks like a great option for me to go back to alpine. I dont mean any negativity, I just saw these recently and I'm trying to get myself up to speed on them. As long as the eq can be set user specific I may have found my next head unit.
@@ROTTBOXX It had a full parametric EQ and the screen mount is very sturdy.
@@AnthonyJ350 awesome. Thank you
I have mixed feelings on it. I think it functions great, but I'm not a fan of the floating screen. It just looks unfinished in the dash, or maybe an after thought.
Jim Elam I see your point. That's why I think this is an inbetween head unit for traditional to iPad installs.
Agreed, but if u see alot of modern vehicles they have that flip up screen which is kinda same thing but its a real good option and doesn't look bad
@@lucho3410 I think the flip up screens look cheesy, and the mechanisms seem weak and flimsy. this looks way more OEM. In an older Acura legend or something, theyre fine. but this is what im looking at for my older 360 Modena.
Would you recommend this for use with a sound system ? I drive a 2003 Tahoe z71 with a banging sound system if that helps thanks
Oh for sure, it's like any other head unit as far as audio features.
I gotta admit, I wouldn't take this over my ipad..but here in florida, waiting for the ipad to cool down in order for it to operate sucks and is getting old , so this might be my next option. I noticed there isn't a dimmer?
Dimmer is a photo light sensor. Ipad is great but you still need a head unit to interface with the vehicle and drive the audio system properly. You might want to watch how @soundman does it.
Is this responsive to your phone. For example, if you click something on your phone does it stream onto the screen, or do you have to be plugged in for it to work?
Has to be plugged in to work
Awesome thanks again for the video. I don’t think this is a deal breaker as you can just use the screen instead of the phone. Wish this was a feature though!
Hi, thanks for the video. Can the screen be mounted in a location other than the head unit? Like if I have the head unit in place and the screen somewhere else?
I haven't seen that yet as the screen docks into the chassis. I have seen people flush mount the screen in dashes though.
This is ironic I just spent the last 3 months building a comprehensive tablet install I'm my 350z then this comes along 🤣
jayqwed14 As long as you're happy with your tablet install and it works well.
I feel your pain, I own G35 and was doing the same thing then just stopped. So much work then suddenly my young bro shows me this unit. I"m like lost for now. I think I will recoup and go back to the drawing board. I have the navi from factory which is junk. I am thinking of trying to have it out to keep this in front of it.
You got a video on that tablet install? 😬
sucks about it is that makes your car prone to getting broken in and someone wanting to steal this unit once they see the Alpine logo .
Yes and no. Depends on your area. Head unit theft has gone down so much in my area because most of the pawn shops shut down due to bylaws. Also most aftermarket shops will charge a premium for "used" gear so it makes it unappealing to purchase.
no mention of how many depth and height options. why not just adjust it for us to see the possibilities see nextime
Feedback noted, thanks!
how do you angle it ?I know it moves up and down, bu angling it is what I need
There's screws on the side you can remove and allow you to change the angle. Place the screws back in to lock it into place.
Can we add a second rod monitor for passengers in the back?
I can't remember, you'll have to check the spec list. As long as it has a video output, yes.
Realy nice Video 👌🏻
Thank you!
I like this deck so much, but I really wish it had something like Pioneer's network mode. I am not a fan of the floating screen look, but since its just a single DIN in the back, I can have it set back so its fairly flush with the dash. I disagree with you about the deck getting updates more than stock radios. Alpine isn't going to support this deck with updates for more than 4-5 years at the most. Just like any other deck. The deck I currently own (Pioneer) is from 2015, and it has only gotten 2 updates, and both were to fix bugs in the interface, not to add or improve any kind of features. What would really be nice for them to add on these iDatalink decks, is a way to flash updates to the module through the deck. When I put the module in my truck, I ran a usb extension to the Maestro module, and taped the end of it to the back of the glove box out of sight. Just so I could flash the module without taking the dash apart.
It's a good head unit.
Hi. I'm going to buy a Nissan Qashqai 2018. I'm not happy with the quality of the infotainment system. My question is that can I buy and install a aftermarket carplay system and still be able to use all the cameras( reverse, front, side) and connect them to the new infotainment system? For example, Alpine halo 9, or kenwood DDX990s ? Thanks.
As long as there's parts available on metraonline.com
How did you connect it with a car to get that information about the tires etc? OBD??
We're using Idatalink Maestro, you can check it out here ua-cam.com/video/oGSzLKmRskM/v-deo.html
You can get some chinese market ones for 1/3 the price and even a bigger screen.
Probably works 1/3 of the time and has no support after a couple years. I've had customer that had phone compatibility issues due to lack of support.
Dude those radios are trash thats why there are cheap
Would this unit fit a 2000- 2003 Chevy Silverado dash, which has a 1.5 DIN?
It will work with a mounting kit.
I'd like to see this installed in a 00-03 . I've been wanting to upgrade my cheap single din .
Hi there. It is possible to instal this unit into mazda 3 2015
Metra makes a mounting kit so I think it's totally possible.
The hdmi option will not show up, how do I get that option to appear?
Cable might be backwards. Some are actually directional, had that issue with this install ua-cam.com/video/vUNh_BWLBAU/v-deo.html
The one thing I have a problem with is it’s not detachable
Fair enough. In our area head unit theft is so low now.
Will this work with 2016 Jeep renegade?
As long as their is a mounting kit available for your vehicle.

Does navigation work without a phone attached to it?
Not on this unit. It requires CarPlay or Android Auto for navigation
What I see on many reviews on this is that they wish the resolution was better.
These people need to watch where they are driving more... The resolution is fine and the touch screen interface is more important (use and safety). The screen is so big that cameras don't look clear because they're not designed to put an image on a screen this large, thus the resolution looks worse.
@@AnthonyJ350 well Kenwood has an hd screen and It's beautiful. Doesnt effect my driving at all. Lol. Cameras look amazing also. The screens aren't so big that they caint put a nice HD screen in them. LOL ...It's not going to effect someone's driving either. Really. Wow. If a stereo is effecting your driving becauae the screen is to clear, shouldn't be driving. Lol. Wow
It can affect your driving if the interface is poor and you have to keep tapping the screen to perform a function. I have a Kenwood 7 inch and it's really good. Kenwood however does not make a 9 inch screen currently so we cannot compare camera resolution.
It's like watching a decent quality video on UA-cam on a computer screen vs your phone. The phone will make it look better because of the smaller resolution.
The question is, have you actually gone to a show room to try the interface and look at the screen for yourself?
Car manufacturers are doing this bc it's cheaper to slap a capacitive screen on the dash rather than mold the dash around it. I hate it.
It's definitely not for everyone.

Thanks for watching!
Beware and test thoroughly. We bought a vehicle less than one year old with an Alpine aftermarket unit clearly less than one year old. Check out the “touchscreen” buttons across the bottom especially the volume up, down and mute. Sometimes they need “pressure ++” to activate and navigating the menu is NOT simple. Screen resolution is very poor and “price” is the only real premium feature. Be careful!
Was it this exact screen you're referring to or a different model. There are two Halo models available.
What's not simple about it? It's similar to a smartphone for navigating.
The exact model is iLX-F903D less than 1 yr old.
@@johnadams5057 What was low resolution, the backup camera?
The main screen has poor resolution. Reverse camera picture depends on whether it is clean or not and quality doesn’t really matter so long as you can see
Impractical, as it blocks the centre air vents
You can adjust the screen and it also depends on the dash layout of the vehicle.
not necessarily. depends on positioning.
Will it run the "circuit" android app? And do a split screen with Google maps?
I don't think so.
Can you watch UA-cam videos while you drive?
If you did screen mirroring, but you would have to bypass the parking brake.
Have you tried a android head unit ?
I've installed a couple. The one major complaint I have is the audio processing is weak. Fully featured otherwise
I wanna see what 150 dB at 30 hertz does to it
Daniel Harrell One of my techs is buying this and is going to install two Rockford 16" subs. So you'll get to see what they do to it.
Do you know if this will work on a 1988 monte carlo ss?
If it can accommodate a single DIN radio and the dash is relatively flat, it should work.

Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, depends on the phone you're running.
