Healthy fat keeps you full longer and also helps your body not hang on to fat. That is why low fat diets don’t work. In France their food is healthier than America. One of the things I dislike about America the food Industry and the negative talk associated with meals. I have recently learned that are mental state plays a role in weight gain. The more we stress about weight the harder it is to loose it. Thanks for sharing!❤️

I think its worth mentioning that they also drink a lot of water... no soft drink is used to hydrate

This is sooooo true. I went on a low carb diet on and off for years with minimum success. I also would binge on occasion because I was depraving myself of needed nutrition. I finally stopped and kept proper portions sizes. Well, the weight came off like never before.

Unfortunately, you can not eat low carb and low fat at the same time. If you eat low carb, you MUST eat alot more fat.

This is sooo true! When my mom was at home, we didn’t snack, and she served our plates herself while we were seated. No second helpings necessary because she was aware of growing children’s needs. And we had dessert every night! However, when she went to work full time, our meals alternated between fast food and binge dieting food that we hated. I rapidly began gaining weight during high school. I felt my only recourse was to just not eat dinner at all. I lost the weight and more but it came roaring back after I got married and began eating incorrectly again. I never put the two things together until hearing your perspective about the French people!!! I’m ecstatic to try to eat well again and lose weight. Tears of joy at the prospect!

I remember visiting Europe (Spain) for the first time from America and it slowly dawning on me that everyone within my line of sight was not overweight.

I needed to hear this, as I have tried to keep my weight down by eating meals that taste like cardboard! Then I get sick of it all and eat everything and lots of it. Wisdom is calling, time to listen. Thanks Jennifer

can I just add a quick testimony to this? over the past week I have cooked lavish comfort meals for my family, and I haven't gained any weight. I simply ate only when I was hungry and stopped eating when I felt satisfied, but not full. I found that it was easier for me to be disciplined about portion control when I had made a sumptuous meal. and when I was eating the complicated no-no meals ( dairy, gluten, sugar) I felt it was so much easier for me to binge or loose control because I felt deprived, and never felt satiated. if I get hungry between meals, I look at the clock. if the next meal is more than two hours away I will have a very small snack and a huge glass of water. otherwise, i drink a huge glass of water and live with the hunger.

Exactly, eat fat and you are not longer hungry between meals, and no need to snack at all. I have adopted a Low carb Healthy fats way of life, and I am more positive, have more energy, no migraines, and feel so much better.. I get ill really quickly if I eat anything with grains and sugar.

The problem is that a lot of people eat when they’re not hungry so this advice doesn’t work

Remember Julia Child. How did we ever come to accept that dairy-rich foods are "decadent"? In fact, children and adults NEED the richness of those fats for proper brain and nerve development. Of course, the dairy from the traditional, once-clean countryside, free of ALL chemicals, hormones, pesticides and LOADED with sunshine and the herbs and grasses of the field, are exquisitely healthy! THANK YOU for making this video series, so important! And PS: Jennifer, you could start a "new-age" revolution in bringing to remembrance the European way of living and eating, market shopping each day. Return to sanity!

Many great tips. Here in Canada, at least Toronto, Ontario we are always rushing. No time to really sit and enjoy a meal. Good breakfast? What's that? If working, not properly eating a good lunch. Supper with family? Would be nice, however, with driving kids to their after school activities, yes, it's always a quick drive-thru at a fast food joint because not enough time to plan and prepare food properly. Hence, unfortunately, over-weight people. However, in my own personal observations , Canadians do not tend to be as over-weight as Americans. No offense, sorry. Probably because our restaurants serve chinzy portions. Seems like everything is petite-sized and in the U.S. they have grande-sized. Yes, we are a bit jealous of that since we pay more for our food. Thanks for the great video.

Excellent advice Jennifer L. Scott. The traditional French way of eating in small portions and sitting with ettiquette with the people you enjoy being with is the best choice. Eating consciously, very true. This is one reason I admire experienced connoisseurs. We can learn from them.

Great video, Jennifer. You know one thing that "scares" (for lack of a better word) me about visiting France? The fact that for my Crohn's Disease I have to be gluten free. I feel it would be insulting to the French to say, "oh I can't have gluten", or "what does this have in it". I would be worried they would secretly roll their eyes at the crazy American and her fad diet. This was terrific! Thank you so much for doing this. Love, Melissa

All of my friends who lived in France told me that our food in North America is low-quality compared to France. I heard of a lot of North Americans who lost weight eating more and drinking more wine in France, and gained the weight back when they came back. How food is made matters a lot. Even those American lactose intolerant were able to drink milk in France! When it comes to food, we are on the wrong continent. I now select my food very carefully. For instance, for diary, I no longer eat cow cheese. I choose goat cheese.

How do you eat consciously while three littles are constantly asking for more water, more food, making spills, picking at each other, standing in the seats... I love eating together, but I usually get a belly ache from scarfing bites between the chores and discipline.

What you say is right but that's not all ;-) It seems that every one ignore that we (french people) don't have butter, fat meat, sauce or any type of rich food) every day. No, it happens sometimes only along the week. It means we eat rich and more only when we gather (with family, with colleagues or friends). Finally it also means we eat "poorly" almost every day ;-p For sure, no drink at table (except few water, soda is banished !!) and a last advice (as I saw that with some foreigners already), bread is not a food to have by itself ... bread is only the accompaniment of an another dish; Only.

Eating with portuon control in mind takes lifetime skill to build. Also the i gredients are not genetically modified to screw up with your hormones. I think foos in America is making us fat no mattwr what the amount we eat small or big.

They definitely have three - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch they take the time to *at least* have an hour to eating it. And of course dinner as well! Meal time is sacred and a must have time. They do not rush it! They take their time to enjoy it!
