I've followed Robert Tonner dolls for years, but have only owned some of his doll clothes, thus far. I AM NOW CRAZY ABOUT ROBERT TONNER. WHAT A DELIGHTFUL MAN! And, to share his knowledge so freely with we sewers is even more endearing. His kind nature and soft-spoken demeanor has made a forever fan out of me! Thank you to Rachel Hoffman for sharing this video to the UA-cam world.

Hi( Bobby) Robert! From Indiana, a long time ago! I remember when we would ride the school bus home( a looong bus ride), you were my next door( down the gravel country road) neighbor & you would sketch doll dresses for me all the way home!!! You would make BEAUTIFUL dresses for your sister! I was so in awe of your talent, even then, & I loved those pictures so much! I knew you were so talented & would go far! So proud of your achievements then & now! ❤️

I don't know any of the context of any of this, I'm just an Internet nomad. But this is the single greatest learning tool I have ever found. I like dolls, I have a few different brands and various hobbyist creations. But I want to dress them myself. And here is a doll wizard casually producing a lecture for us proles. Wow! I love watching people make doll patterns because I can use pretty much all the same knowledge scaled up to make my own clothes. It's just something about seeing it done on a smaller scale that makes the techniques click in my mind and help me to understand. Even more so seeing a professional at work!

The same thing happens when you scale down numbers in math.

That was amazing. I never thought much about how they make patterns for doll clothes. I just figured it was much simpler than "HUMAN" clothes. But the detail is so much the same. It seems very complicated. The people you see on YT, etc...that alter clothes, and patterns don't have the knowledge this man has. I think they just learned the HOW to make simple changes, but never learned the WHY. Which is always what I want o know. WHY WHY WHY...I just never stopped asking that. Dolls don't complain, so the market is easier.. LOL. THANK YOU, AND this lovely man for taking time to teach us. He is a real gem. 💎💓

I so wish Robert would make a whole series on doll pattern design/making - I'd buy it for sure! Delving into all of this knowledge is amazing. I'd like to see how, once it has a satisfactory fir, how you transfer this to paper with lean lines and then digitalize it. I'd also like to know how to adapt this for the various-sized dolls available. Yes, I'm into doll pattern making, this is the best teaching I have found. I am hoping there will be more to follow - make it a paying teaching course, I'd be a student for sure! Thank you so much for this!

I've been sewing doll clothes for decades now and can draft a simple pattern just by look and measurements, but I do like the draping techniques he's using. For more complex patterns, it's much more accurate and gives greater control. He's also totally right about darts. XD They're more complex than many beginning sewers know, even though they are incredibly useful. When you don't feel like doing a princess seam, a dart is your friend. If you haven't ripped out a seam, or bled on the piece, you're not sewing. XD The number of times I've jabbed myself with a pin or a needle...

I'm a Groove/Jun Planning doll collector and I love having variety in bodies and sizes. I use different sized Obitsus, Pureneemos, stock bodies... They are very different between each other, I'm always struggling while making my own patterns so this is a big step for me. I'm starting to learn how to sew, not the greatest at it, but happy with what I accomplished so far. I'm learning by myself so I often get stuck until I find a solution lol

The best part of this entire process is the techniques here used can be transferred to a dress form to create the same ensemble. Well done 👏👏👏

This was seriously amazing, thank you SO much. I have made doll patterns for many years but only for much larger dolls. I am only starting on Barbie clothes because I have 12 granddaughters. This was so easy to watch and listen

I would love to have a tools list, the doll ironing tool, and such. This was a wonderful video; in school, we never did this small of a scale however we did do doll size (American Girl Doll size) It is amazing to see professionals in this stage of work the artistry is amazing.

I think it would be infinitely more difficult to make clothes in miniature than being able to fit them on a full size person. What a wonderful demonstration!

Hello from the Philippines! this was so helpful. I just picked up an interest in sewing (like sewing in general), specifically sewing doll clothes and this video is such a GEM. And to Mr. Robert Tonner, you have gained 1 new fan! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

God this was wonderful. Ive done fittings for Oxxford, Brioni...etc at the little shop I worked at in CS. But now I want to make doll clothes. Beginner in sewing really. A bit backwards..lol. But...this video was the best. Never really attempted to make any patterns. Now I will for my custom dolls.

I've never owned a Robert Tonner doll but I will say ever since I was 5 years old I've had a love for dolls I think what really did it was seeing Child's Play/Chucky. Having a love for the character led me to dive deeper behind the scenes! How much work and designing the clothes making multiple head sculpts made me want to start customizing dolls myself. It's a shame for something so detailed and time-consuming it seems like the doll community is still very small in a way it's kinda cool to be the only person in the friend group that customizes dolls though. Anyway I love this tutorial I honestly want to meet Robert now 😂 he seems pretty cool

This was so interesting. I learned a lot. I make dolls but have always fussed around with pre-made patterns. This has given me great ideas how to design my own. Thank you Robert Tonner For your patience & your time.
