I love that Robert Tonner has a collection of Ideal Kissy dolls! My very cool older cousin gave me her Kissy Doll last year and I cried when I saw her nestled in the tissue paper. I loved Kissy since I was five years old. Whenever I am feeling low, I turn to Kissy and squeeze her arms and everything is alright. Thumbs up Robert Tonner!

I love the first doll he showed, the Revlon Blonde with the gorgeous navy dress with the flower accent and then the Schiaparelli creation on the Effanbee doll. So nice of Robert Tonner to show us around his collection, it's been a real treat. Thank you Rachel and Robert!

Sydney Chase has always been my favorite doll, I thought she had the most beautiful face. I agree that the 16 inch dolls are preferable, Barbie size is so small to work with and fit correctly. Details are easier to achieve. Doll collecting - it's a kind of madness - you should see my collection in all sizes also. I had such a series when I was a kid, and started to collect them again when my granddaughter was born and never stopped - she is now 18 years old. I get it, (really should stop). Tonner dolls were the absolute best. The end of the Tonner Doll company has left such a hole in the doll world - we miss you. Thank you for all the ones we got through the years. And thank you for this tour in the treasure room. Are we ever going to see new Tonner dolls? I sure hope so.

I enjoyed this so much ! Robert seems like such a down to earth guy. My favorite doll when I was young was an Effanbee Doll called "Gumdrop" she had a blue dress, and platinum blonde hair. I gave her to a family that couldn't afford dolls. I spent years looking for another one,I finally found her on e bay ! I was so thrilled. Love seeing the dolls that I cherished as a kid. I own Kissy,Chatty Cathy,Twiggy,Shirley Temple, and repros. of Patti PlayPal. I love dolls !

Roberts doll designs and sculpting have made so many generations of little girls so happy! He designed one of my favorites.
I own a Magic attic club doll named “Megan” I got for Christmas in 1996 when I was 9 years old. I love my Megan so much that I still have her till this day. She has always been the most beautiful doll I own. I have dolls that are adorable and cute….but my Megan is gorgeous! She looks like a Porcelain doll but she’s made of fine vinyl.
I love how Robert designed Megan with the most gorgeous strawberry blonde/red hair and green eyes. you don’t see many dolls with those stunning colors.
Megan is one of my prized childhood favorites. She has made me so happy & I hope Robert sees how his work is cherished.

I think you are doing a great job introducing Robert Tonner and seeing some of his collection of dolls. He is a terrific maker of dolls himself. I have seen some of his dolls in person and they are fabulous. I hope he starts making them again, you are doing a great job of bringing dolls to life all kinds of dolls and the antique ones and are incredibly lucky to have had a mother who loved dolls and had her own business and handed down to you and your family and you have the same kind of love for dolls as your mother had. I believe your baby Holland Diane will have the same love for dolls as you and her grandmother did. Please keep up the wonderful work you do introducing everyone to all the different types of dolls that you have. It would be very interesting to see Robert Tonners collection of dolls like he had in this video and also dolls he has made so more people will get to know him, his dollmaking, you could also have other dollmakers on too! Thank you for all you do and I know with a baby it isn't too easy but I do think she enjoys seeing what you do.

What a treat. Thank you Mr. Tonner for sharing your personal stash. As a child, I did not really care for dolls. My poor mom would save up her hard earned money to buy me dolls and I tended to look at them a few minutes and then want to go outside with the dogs, horses, etc. Here I am in my mid 60s and getting a second chance to fall in love with dolls.

Robert Tonner - I have remembered this video with you producing 'LIZ' from your shelf and loved her and your thoughts about her. I did purchase a Liz on ebay, but in the red & white dress that doesn't have the appeal of the light blue lingerie. I just now have found the Liz in the blue and am awaiting arrival for $75. I hope I can iron out the satin ribbons on the cover-up to have a perfect doll. I do think I love Liz as you have her here and Robert Tonner, I couldn't have done it without you!

The original doll display at 39:17, my mouth literally fell open to the ground, unbelievably beautiful. You should rename, your channel - Rachel Hoffman - The Doll Whisperer. Imagine, you could do a whole series on his dolls like you do for the ones with Michael. I have never seen these dolls in other antique doll videos before (the rest are all concentrating on the really old antique dolls or modern ones like Barbie, Sindy etc but not these brands i have never seen. Such a treasure trove. This is doll history. You should write a book Rachel, otherwise all these knowledge, nobody knows how much you are doing for the history of all these dolls. Such superb workmenship and craftsmanship which is lost today unfortunately.

Thank you so much. I really got insight on Mr. Tonner. Full disclosure I collected early Gene dolls. still need a chaise lounge.
I had moved to LA to work in film and years later wanted a doll that represented Hollywood in my collection. I was a broke film student and saw a Gene but couldn't afford her at the time. I used the Ebay for the first time to buy that Gene doll decades later :-) and got hooked. Thank You so much for the details and wonderful designs.

Im in my 50s, and when you held a 24 inch doll, you really felt like you were holding a baby. Perfect size doll. Pity they dont make that size for children any more. Also not difficult to sew for.

Awesome video. I've always wondered why there aren't Grey's Anatomy dolls. But realized they probably shouldn't be kept in the same box. Not kid friendly.

Why does Robert not open a doll museum??? These are awesome!!!

    • @RachelHoffmanDolls
      @RachelHoffmanDolls  3 роки тому

It’s such a fun thought but a doll museum is a tremendous undertaking with virtually no viable sources of revenue, and high monthly expenses. One must be prepared to invest a LOT of disposable income to operate one. We hope to share more of his amazing collection on video for all to enjoy. ❤️

i''m guessing the reason many toys stayed pristine in boxes more than most other items is because it's a relatively small window of childhood when kids actually dress/brush/play with toys.. grandparents/godparents/aunts/uncles/etc, might live across country and are still remembering the 6, 7, or 8yo they saw the last time they visited, so keep sending toys when the kids are 10, 11, and 12 and outgrowing the "play" phase of childhood.. either that, or like you say, a nicer/upscale doll is gifted and then mom emphasizes that it's a "fancy" collector/display doll that should NOT be undressed/brushed/handled under ANY circumstances, so it gets immediately boxed/put away at the top of a closet until the kid gets older (and then gets forgotten about), or else gets displayed on a tall dresser, or a high shelf for display ONLY.. most little kids are pretty smart, there were hundreds of things we all grew up intuitively understanding weren't to be played with, or even so much as touched: dad's tools, mom's good china, grandma's lead crystal, great-grandma's sterling silver, etc.. . the expensive china doll from aunt mary would most likely have been in that same category in most families..

Yeah I remember when I got dolls my mom would always tell me to keep them as they are in boxes👀 I was just too eager to play with it as a kid tho
