    Counterstrike players definitely wouldn't want to play at 60hz but you'd be surprised how many of us play at 800p or lower even on FHD monitors lol

    • @tropicalfruit4571
      @tropicalfruit4571 2 роки тому

      Once you go 144 you never go back to 60 and cs was a sole reason why I got a 144Hz monitor. I thought it'd just be a nicer experience but in reality it actually makes aiming easier. You have around 2.5 times more frames so 2.5 times more updates about an enemy position which just makes it easier for the brain to go through. I remember I was shocked how much better I got from just switching monitors.

      @@tropicalfruit4571 Its almost absurdly unfair with an awp, its really hard to match 144hz reaction times on 60hz if the person knows what they're doing

      Honestly I feel like mobile gaming is taking steps BACKWARDS.
      The hardware required to have better reaction is gone so far past what Mobile offers.
      Laptops especially suffer the same fate and cost a lot more without being flexible.
      Monitor going 144hz -240hz.
      GPUs using MORE power and working with monitors to reduce delay.
      Mobile options do not have that ability unfortunately.
      A lot of games especially shooters take advantage of some features that Mobile options don't offer.
      Man I wish I was able to build another PC because my laptop was sooooo expensive back when I got it.
      At least most the items on it can be put into a PC, but man. Tech moves fast!

    Great review man. We need more points of view like this. Normal Joe who just wants to see what it’s about and play games. These types of folks complaints would help Valve in different way. A way that’s gonna help make the system become that household name. I’ve had mines for a few months and it’s a nice device. The updates don’t really need to be announced as much, especially if it’s not the updates towards user-friendliness. Most normal folks don’t care what new version of shaders it’s using or how much you can tweak the tpu in order to save battery, etc. Just do it. Make enough updates for a decent software update and continue progressing .

    I think playing competitive shooters on a handheld device is just called being unreasonable. I can see maybe rocket league being completely fine competitively speaking on this, maybe some fighting games (though I'm out of my depth on this topic) but this is for everything but competitive games for the most part. That is not to say it's for casuals per se but competitive multiplayer is just not something this device has in mind.

    Honestly anything above 60fps or 800p would just be a detriment to the battery life. You can already save a massive amount of battery life by playing at 40fps or lower res but I can't imagine how fast the battery would die if it was over 60fps and res over 800p lol

  • @TonyisToking

    Personally, I think this is best for retro games with wide compatibility. But honestly, the package they promised was more oriented toward newer games, unlocking your ENTIRE Steam library. Seeing the performance and battery life this thing ended up putting out, I'm not really sure it's ready for primetime. For me, 1-2 hours of battery life isn't enough with AAA games. I hope it is successful enough to last until there are lower wattage high power x86 CPUs available. I've just owned gaming laptops in the past and have never been happy with the experience of having to charge up every couple hours or be tethered to the wall.

    • @TonyisToking
      @TonyisToking 2 роки тому

      Also, 120Hz would be super nice, especially for retro games! My favorite part about playing older titles is maxing out the frame rate. Which this thing could probably do... but you don't get to enjoy it with that display.

    Mine should be shipping anytime i payed for it Thursday I can’t wait to get it. For me it’s something to tinker with I know going in what to expect performance wise. I have a 5950x 3080ti on my desktop rig so if I wanna play max quality and high refresh rate I’ll play on it. But the steam deck is something to chill out with and play on the couch. I thought a gaming laptop would fill that purpose for me so i got a decent laptop close to two years ago but with all the cords and a laptop cooler plus my two small dogs who have to be in my lap it didn’t work. I ordered a US 256gb model at 12:25pm day of reservations just for people wondering when they will get their email. I didn’t get the 512 because i wanted to get a screen protector and i think that will nullify the 512’s screen. I ordered a screen protector and a 512gb sd card last night. I think 768gb’s should be good enough well 758 counting for the operating system. I think at this point i have around 800 steam games which I’ve probably played 15% of them. My collection has been growing fast because of humble choice. Plus I buy most of my games of cdkeys their normal prices are better than steam sale prices most of the time. I just wish valve would’ve went with a 6 core 12 thread apu on the deck in my opinion its the bare minimum for gaming today. That new aya neo with 8 core zen 3 cpu cores and rdna2 graphics with 12 CUs is gonna be a beast of a handheld but probably cost a pretty penny.

    The battery life might be a deal breaker for someone who wants to primarily play big high-budget/high-quality AAA games on the go because of how the battery can last as little as 1.5 hours. Also the fan can be pretty noticeable when it's maxed out.
    Honestly besides that one complaint with the battery, the Steam Deck is very awesome and versatile. The other issue is Linux incompatibility, but more and more games are becoming compatible, and there are often workarounds if you're willing to do some extra work. Having access to a full Linux desktop that can even be docked to a bigger monitor is the Deck's version of a "docked" mode for PC gaming :P
    I was also surprised that it has built in bluetooth...

    Not looking to buy one but how bad is the input lag and stutter on games?

    • @stvnoahc7249
      @stvnoahc7249 2 роки тому +7

      It’s a pc, not a clouding gaming device, I personally haven’t heard anyone complaining about any input lag.

    • @TechWithSean
      @TechWithSean  2 роки тому +3

      I haven’t felt any noticeable lag, it feels just like playing a regular game on a 60hz screen

    • @AssailantLF
      @AssailantLF 2 роки тому

      It is worth mentioning that input latency is dependent on your framerate. So assuming the conditions were ideal, at 60 fps your input latency would be around 16 milliseconds. However, if you decide to limit your FPS to 30, then your input latency would at best be around 33 milliseconds, which is literally double the latency.
      Normally this is difference is hard to notice because you play a game from beginning to end at the same max framerate, usually 120 or 60 or 30. But because you can change your max FPS on the fly on the Deck, the difference in latency is more noticeable.

    • @ThunderKat
      @ThunderKat 2 роки тому

      @@AssailantLF input lag from the display is just one of the many thing that add into it. If the monitor runs at 60hz and has perfect input-lag like an old CRT then yes, in theory it could be 16ms. Reality is the sum of many others things, 1-5ms+ coming from the LCD display technology/pixel, and some extra from the mouse (south bridge inside the CPU) and even the GPU. And this is the reason why you need to test those things with a LED hook to the mouse click and test it out with a high speed camera pointing toward both the LED and monitor to measure it. Also make sure the game you are testing is CPU demanding just to see if the CPU can keep up (In my experience watching reviews a strong CPU is best solution to get rid of it). Now when it comes to stuttering, that's also the combination of many factors CPU/RAM/VRAM/Storage, all of them are responsible to handle real-time rendering and loading of information in real-time and not all games load stuff in real-time. Horizon Dawn is a game that would push this stutter effect heavily, same as cyberpunk due to both sharing an open world that is constantly loading and rendering information in real-time as you move around. Not trying to make a big deal out of it, just trying to clear things out. I don't say the console is bad but don't fill is also the best thing ever give it can't even run popular game at the native resolution. Maybe the next generation might be the "good one to buy" and probably a good OLED display gonna make it even way better. None the less not planning on buying one so no need to convince me is a great thing or anything, was asking for input about people that got one, so far seem you guys don't notice any ;)

      I mean, if you only play the latest, bleeding edge AAA games and ignore 99% of other games, then yes it will be obsolete. But if that’s all you play, this isn’t for you anyway.
      What are some of the most played games? Minecraft, Fortnite, League of Legends, Apex Legends, Final Fantasy 14… all of these games can run on hardware that’s 10+ years old. Not to mention Indy games released for the next 10+ years which will certainly play great on Deck.
