I agree that the ethanol, in the fuel is causing several problems. As you mentioned, the tab on the regulator housing, and I would like to add another affected Item. It seems to me that the ethanol, will also cause the pump strainer to collapse in the inlet of the pump, and nearly eliminate the fuel supply. I'm one those people that believe the manufacturing, firms, should sue gasoline producers, for lying.. about ethanol, being safe, and having "no effects" on vehicle fuel system components ! Great Video by the way !
I've been using 5/16 submersible fuel hose to replace the internal tank hoses with great results as long as you use the right lengths these will never fail
Richard Szeluga ah yes I did... first I need one to come in broken LOL. Seriously though...I will do my best to explain here. Turn your run/stop switch ON and your key OFF. Put your ear directly on the tank (primary side) and turn the key to the ON position. This seems silly but you want to listen for pressure bleed off inside the tank. Note: this only works with less than half a tank of fuel because you are literally listening for fuel to spray on inside of tank. This can mean either the regulator housing is bad or one of the two pressure lines inside tank have split. Hope this helps. If you need more info please dial the shop during our open hours and we can assist you more. Have a great weekend.
any chance you would be able to do a video on how to take that total piece out of the tank? Or if you have the link to a detailed video demonstration, I would appreciate that.
Is this the same process on a 08 soft tail custom my fuel pump stopped cycling it was low enough for the fuel light to be on an it has sat for over a year thank's for the great video
Great Video!!! I have a 1999 Ultra Classic with the magneti marelli system. Its doing the exact same thing. So my bike gets to go visit the Harley dealer this Saturday. (Its under warranty). So they can fix my sick bike!
So do you think that would be the problem in my bike I turn it on and hear the fuel pump and I go to start it and it turns over but will not fire . I have the hit the start button twice and than it fires. Usually only happens after it sits a few days.
I recently had the same problem and replaced both hoses, which was nice to have a new petcock valve already attached to it, anyway did a full r&r fuel filter fuel pressure regulator and also replace the housing..because yes those little tabs do crack because of the ethanol.. my question is what would cause a diagnostic code a front and rear injector open low? Can the injectors be tested without having the pull everything apart except for maybe taking off the tank, and the air filter backing plate, Thanks Scott
Great Video Really Helped me with a rip and replace for fuel pump, filter, and regulator. Issue that I am having is bike will start up or try to but immediately dies? Didn't do the check valve as it was in pretty good condition. Seems like i'm not getting any fuel to the injectors, could there be an issues in the fuel injection portion that could cause there to be no gas getting to injectors? Appreciate any help.
Hey man thanks in advance! I have a 2005 electra glide that i had sitting maye a month. But now that i ride it, i notice it is just sluggish. It does not show the power i know it has. I changed the spark plugs and checked the compression thinking it might be the piston rings but they checked out fine.. then last night i realized if i open the throttle and run it hard for like 30 secs then it slowly starts to come back to life but as soon as i cut it off and let it cool down to go home it just runs slow again until i push it hard for a little? Help please
Good video and instructions, quality makes it hard to see the detail of what your doing. Try getting a gopro or phone to film at a higher resolution other than that thanks for the video
So my bike is sputtering and running like shit but it was doing it with a full tank not sure if this is what the problem is. And on top of that I had to leave the bike 80 miles away at my grandparents house because it was the closest place to me when it started doing it
Help. My 04 i flipped my 04 road king a few times and the check valve hose came off. I got it back together but bike revs up to at least 3000rpm when I start it, probably higher. Any suggestions?
Greetings and good information to know.....here's my 2011 Street Glide's exact symptoms: 1) I turn the ignition switch to "run" (but I don't press the "Start" switch yet)....most of the time the fuel pump runs a few seconds, and then the engine starts fine when I press the "start" button. (Normal operation) 2) Sometimes when I turn the ignition switch to "run", I do NOT hear the fuel pump run at all, or it runs for about half of a second, and the engine won't even attempt to crank when I press "start".....I'll recycle power by twisting the large ignition switch on and off, and go through the process again until the fuel pump decides to operate normal. 3) Sometimes the fuel pump will initially run a little shorter than normal, and I'm able to start the engine, but the bike won't ride any faster than about 15 mph. I'm not sure if this is a fuel pump issue, or maybe even an intermittently functioning "run" switch...thanks in advance for any ideas or advice!
I'm pretty sure it's something going on with the "run" switch because if the fuel pump initially does nothing, I put a sort of angled pressure on the switch when it's in the "run" position, the fuel pump will then engage as normal.
Watched your video, what are your thoughts on this scenario; 2010 FLHX, intermittent issue, when i go to start the bike, sometimes it struggles to fire. It turns over without issue, but more frequently then not, I have to hold the starter for 5-7seconds longer then usual for it to fire. Seems like a compression issue. I do not know what is done internally, I got it last year, and he had an aftermarket intake, exhaust and no plug-in tuner. I switched exhaust, and added tuner. Problem was then and is currently a problem. Any suggestions?
Lots to unpack here but hard starting can happen when the regulator or hose are compromised. The hard starts are exactly why Harley installed compression releases on later models. Sounds like a tuning issue to me but to be on the safe side I’d verify my fuel pressure. Thanks for watching - J
Help please !! My kawaski ninja 250r 09 keeps running fine then even so often it don't idle and when trying to give it any throttle the bike struggles to rev and on other situation it can get stuck at 6000rpm and stay there . I did recently have a nock on the side of the bike I don't know whether this would have caused any problems to it.. also I can get it going on the main road with some rev but will change gear up and go faster to like 40 mph but will only let you give it a little throttle and the middle of my exhaust glows bright red but no wear else on it
What are these part numbers. Great videos , shitty camera , good sound and able to follow easily, thanks. Maybe mentioned that these things are also available at regular stores other than Harley Davidson dealerships because nobody wants to go to the Harley shop unless you’re rich ass yuppie
The guys in the shop are incredible, extremely knowledgeable and extremely friendly and helpful. Thanks again guys!

Also I'd like to add this was done two years ago and have never had a problem,, Thanks again..
Thanks for sharing such an informative video. Exactly what I needed to do on my bike

Jason, In part 1 you said you would also explain how to diagnose by ear. Please advise.

Also, would you be able to make a video on how to check/replace the fuel filter? Thanks for the clear & concise demo.
I would have also changed out the particle filter on fuel pump it looked bad too. cheers great video
How many years could you expect this to last. Had line in tank replaced at HD dealer. Problem started again after 1000 mile ride. Great video. Thanks
What was the problem you experienced?
gGreat video,very informative.Thanks for sharing.

Why not the filter as well?
We always recommend new filters too. We stock them as well.

New subscriber good video thanks
I wanted to reach in the phone and hold the part for you, 😆. Like you needed a second set of hands, lol
Yeah...I could almost always use a second set of hands but then I’d need two pair of gloves for riding LOL.

Fault Codes P1003, P0261, P0263 could these codes be caused by these
Help have 2013 103 twin engine let the bike sit for a year only 5000 miles will crank and if i add starter fluid it will start but won't stay on
Sounds like you’ll need a new pump and lines. Call shop. We can get you handled 813-754-2959
How much do you charge for this job?
Approximately 1-1/2 a 2 hours
Warming the hose in warm water makes sliding it on much easier.
Harley isn't supporting Twin can or Evo bikes anymore so being that this video is 5 years old , buying parts may not work out at Harley for us.
We stock most of the needed parts in our showroom. Thank you for watching.

That sounds like a lean condition, anything hot would mean lean, so the carbs could be in need of maintenance

This was shot many years ago
Why wouldn't you change the fuel regulator and fuel filter at the same time??? If you have it all apart makes more sense ;)
Michael Doucette we do replace the fuel filter when necessary but honestly the regulator doesn’t go bad and it would add that much more to the cost.
Informative video but unfortunately grainy as hell
Everything is out of focus, try again, thanks.
