Always lift drywall or plywood 1/2 inch off the concrete floor. Also use pressure treated sill plate whenever it contacts a concrete floor. If you have a laser match the line across the doorway. Great job. Getting ready to do this myself! Thanks for your ideas.
Thanks for watching! I 100% agree with drywall. However, although it can’t hurt, this is not needed with wood products. Baseboards are typically placed directly on the flooring which is very similar if not worse quality compared to plywood. If one is really worried about moisture, they can add a coat or 2 or poly to the bottoms of the first row of ply. Good luck with your project!
I recently did this in my basement for a dart board wall…. Scraps are going to be used to make Christmas decorations for our front porch…. Looks great and you provide awesome content
I’ve done quite a bit of this 1/4” plywood “shiplap”. It’s very important that all your pieces are straight and exactly the same width. You can’t accomplish that with a skill saw on a flimsy table. With no backing it will continue to warp and will look worse and worse. If you’re going to span the studs without backing you have to use thicker plywood.
Thanks for watching! Sounds like you have had a different experience than I have. I have done quite a few rooms using this method and have never had an issue with warping, if you are worried about it you could use thicker plywood. I live in Colorado where there isn't much humidity, which helps this issue. While the skill saw doesn't get perfect pieces every time, I have never had an issue with wildly different width pieces.
Great video!!! I’ve done some ship lap walls in the past and this is exactly the way I’ve done it and it held up. My question is i recently bought a home with a basement and I want to do the same in there. How bad is the expansion and contraction due to weather changes???
Would you say it's cheaper using plywood vs making my own shiplap with a router using 1×8 boards? I realize it may be more time consuming but I'm more interested in the cost and the final look.
I totally agree, I thought about just doing a satin water based poly. But, we were hoping to just have it blend into the background a little more. Thanks for Watching!
Not sure why this would make me feel disrespected. This is a “cheap and easy way to get the same look as shiplap” which using an over sized rabbit joint gives the illusion of a consistent 1/8” gap. This method was to show someone that doesn’t want to pay or have the tools needed to have that look! Thanks for your comment and best of luck with your project!

The aluminum corner is such a good idea for a straight edge! Gonna go pick one up this morning before I start ripping my plywood :)
It is totally a game changer! Excited to see how you like it.

That is awesome! What a fun idea
Brilliant idea. Thanks for posting!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

That was my question. What is the minimum thickness of the plywood in order to span 12" centered studs vs. 16" centered studs vs. 24" centered studs?
Thanks for the video! Excited to get started on my cabin using this technique.
Glad you enjoyed the video, best of luck with your cabin!
You did a great job, but I would have staggered the joints about 1/4 inch it would have looked so much better.
Thanks for watching, that sounds like a good idea for next time!
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you
Thank you for watching, hope you enjoyed!
Good job , its always funny to read all the negative comments from the know it all's
It is funny, I honestly enjoy all feedback. I wouldn’t be doing this if I couldn’t take a little negativity
Thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching
Im doing something similar but I did the edge on a 45 angle like a french cleat so that there is no gap between each board.
That sounds so rad! What a fun accent wall idea
I made my shiplap on my table saw and cut a rabbet on opposite sides with a dado blade.
Love it! I bet that turned out so well

We haven’t noticed any, but we live in Colorado. Which is on the dryer side. I would say, if you are worried about it, space them a little more apart

That’s a great question, how much is a 1x8 board? I would guess it is a ton cheaper to use plywood. But, I haven’t priced 1x8s in a while
I think a natural stain would have looked better, but I liked the look, work, and cost of the project. Thanks.

Nice

No disrespect but shiplap doesn’t have gaps between the boards. They need to be rabbited joints that overlap one another
