    If you set your saw blade at a 45 degree angle and just barely raise it above the table height, (A dado blade helps) you can rip your V grooves in the ply without making the planks. Since you made the seams in straight lines instead of staggering, you would simply hang the full sheets of ply instead of the planks. No caulking except at the sheet seams and half the time as long as you have the extra hands.

    Smart idea cutting the V groove. Looks really nice. I was wondering what type of quarter inch plywood was it. Was it lauan plywood?

    My experience with buying a tool for a diy job is that usually the saving of the diy pays for the tool with a solid surplus, compared to have it done by a contractor.

      Striker Thunderlick ,
      Most contractors won’t do such a fine job as she did for $6,000.
      Yes, you kind of , correction, you most definitely have to know how to use a tape measure and basic hand tools to get the results she has. My sister had the ideas, l had all the tools and OCD skills for perfection. That part of me drove her crazy, she just wanted it done.
      We haven’t grown so close in 50 years, as we did, pimping out her she-shed 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 I wish l could post before and after photos here.

    I did something similar but used 1x6s and beveled the edges. I still saved a ton of money over T&G planks. I stained it at the time but now I am in the process of painting it white. I m into a white groove nowadays. Everything else seems too dark.

  • @MikeKapotsy
    @MikeKapotsy 8 років тому +1

    Only thing I would've done differently is to stagger the end joints. I realize the boards cover that but you could have used the bevel on ends as well and it would've looked like flooring on the ceiling. Still looks great the way you did it.

    • @Sawdustgirl
      @Sawdustgirl  8 років тому

      +Mike Kapotsy You could definitely use this concept and produce many different looks. I specifically did not want staggered joints because I don't want my ceiling to look like a floor. Also, there is no bevel on the ends. You could certainly create a bevel on the ends of each plank like I did on the sides but that would be difficult with such long boards...and just so much more work. :-)

    • @MikeKapotsy
      @MikeKapotsy 8 років тому +1

      Sandra Powell aka {Sawdust Girl} oh yeah I caught that you did it that way on purpose, I was just saying that is how I would have done it myself. You did an outstanding job on it thought, it looks fantastic!

    • @Sawdustgirl
      @Sawdustgirl  8 років тому

      Mike Kapotsy Thanks. I always say, "You can do the same thing a dozen different ways and they'd all look good." It's just a matter of which way you want it to look. I think you should bevel the sides and ends and stagger a ceiling AND leave the bare wood showing. That would be really cool!

    • @MikeKapotsy
      @MikeKapotsy 8 років тому +1

      +Sandra Powell aka {Sawdust Girl} yep, and I actually like the look of the wood showing through when you sanded it a bit. Not trying to hate but I don't know if its just the camera. But it looks like you just put up cheap wall paneling and painted it.

    OF COURSE BETTER 1.-SANDING FIRST (BEFORE INSTALLING)
    AFTER SANDING. . DO 2.-PRIMER.. THE AGAIN. . 3.-SANDING "AGAIN" (BECAUSE YOU ARE SO PERFECT AND WHAT SO PERFECTION. (NOT BIG DEAL TO SAND AT THE JOINTS BECAUSE YOU JUST CAULKING)
    4.- MORE PRIMER AGAIN.
    AFTER INSTALLED. . JUST " USE YOUR PLASTIC COVER AND YOUR MACHINE SPRAYER AND PAINT THE WHOLE CEILINGS.

      how much cost the wood??
      $3 long feet?
      plus sander $$ plus your machine sprayer..
      PLUS YOUR COVER PLASTIC..
      $200??

    I always work alone so weight matters. That is the perfect material for a good surface. I stagger the joints like a floor , hides even more sins.

      Home depot has an 1/8 in thick hardwood plywood available for 9.97 a sheet. Only larger stores seem to have it in stock.

      She didn't want the ceiling to look like a floor.With those boards at the end,actually looks pretty nice.

      Yep, that is what she said. But, joints are almost always staggered because the boards are more aesthetically pleasing that way. Although I found this a terrific idea that I plan to use myself, I think I won't over-work it. I'll build a jig to sand the edges and finish the wood before installing, and avoid the caulking to preserve the natural look.

    You could have just bought beaded plywood panels and saved a ton of work and gotten better results.
