Chasing 1000hp in a small block V8 engine | fullBOOST

  • For the last few years we have featured some wild small block V8 engines using Higgins Race Heads induction packages. These are a bolt on cylinder head and manifold solution which we have filmed making north of 900hp in Ford, Chevy and LS naturally aspirated applications. We caught up with Nathan Higgins recently once again for the low down on his latest 'all motor' project.

    With a tunnel ram and methanol fuel, 1200hp should be possible. Fullboost always does Ford's justice. Higgins, CHI and Kaase, yeah not the cheapest parts but not overtly expensive either. One of these in the back of Pantera would be interesting.

      I'm for anybody that supports corporation. Working with US based Ford fanatics only further improve things for the average bloke. Instead of blowing money on marginal Windsor based heads from Trick Flow, spend the same or even less money on a Clevor and make 10-15% more power.

    Hey Luke, greetings from the Southeastern United States. I’ve been working with Clevelands for 40 years and I can’t thank you enough for posting these superb videos featuring the outstanding Higgins induction components. Whenever someone doubts the performance potential of the small block Ford topped with the ultimate heads, I just recommend your videos to them. Seeing is believing. I appreciate the Ford videos because there’s more than enough brand X repeats online already 😉.

      I would dare say there is less confusion when it comes to Ford. I think too many people want the V8 rumble but can't really afford it. That's why I haven't built any V8 in a long time, I just can't afford it.

      The big three back and forth is so lame. Most performance heads are hemispherically cut. Don’t be so susceptible to marketing and advertising. Just make your air pump (engine) more powerful and efficient and leave the brand bs out. Attaching yourself to an old design while bashing new developments only hinders progress in our industry.

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie 3 роки тому +4

      Exactly. Closed chamber heads are the key. Trying to do it with open chamber heads will lead to frustration. That said if the expectation is about 400 hp, then 2V iron heads are just fine. MPG still makes parts for the Cleveland which help with low speed torque with the 4V Iron heads. Even though Clevors are the base for all Ford NASCAR Cup engines it seems that knowledge doesn't filter down to the masses. In-fact the Panoz GTR used a Roush Clevor; when the point is to make as much power as possible you can't go wrong with a Cleveland or a Clevor including the Boss 302.

      @@StainlessTIG2 Power Heads in California been doing Ported 2V Australian Heads with the 2.19, 1.71 Valve sizes for quite a while now, Bought a set off them probably close to 20 years ago, they worked great, my 86 Mustang Cleveland Powered ran quicker with those than Stock 4V Open Chamber and Closed Chamber Heads. Me and my brother Drag Raced Clevelands in our Foxbody Mustangs for years, i moved on to BBF Power and will never look back, Clevelands are great engines, But Big Block Low End Torque they are not, But I'm still holding onto my Freshly Bored.030 over 4 Bolt Cleveland Block, maybe for a Fun Street Cruiser.

      @@badass6.0powerstroke10 Did you ever run the Chris Parker funnel web intake manifold on your Cleveland’s? These intakes make big power with the right combination. And it’s a Very simple combination.

      @@StainlessTIG2 No, we never had one of those funnel web intakes, if i remember correctly, that was a Very Tall Single Plane, with a Cloverleaf design in the plenum, i remember hearing that they always worked good, my brother and i had a couple different Weiand Intakes, Xcelerator i believe, an older Holley Strip Dominator, and an Offenhauser Intake, we tried different intakes along with different Cyl Heads, 4V, Open and Closed, 2V Australian. My brother ran the Cleveland platform couple years longer than me, i switched up to 429-460 BBF,s. He wanted to put together a stroked Cleveland 393/408 range with the CHI 3V heads, and the Funnel Web intake, But Never happened, he sold Most of his Cleveland Stuff, few years ago, but still holding onto the Headers and Oil Pan for Foxbody Mustang, just in case wants to get back into the Drag Racing, he's still got the car, but the Engine and Trans were Sold.

    Our 410 ci sprint car engines make about 960, injected on alcohol.

  • @ldnwholesale8552
    @ldnwholesale8552 3 роки тому

    But since 400 plus ci is not allowed by most motorsport categories they are limited to drag racing only. A very small market here an in the US everything seems to be LS as well. Or big block.
    As someone playing with a Clevo I am limited to 6 litre, as is speedway applications as well. Too big for a Sprintcar also and you would need to develop injection too suit. On a 410 and 8500 rpm they may be good. But hard to sell as the market is Chev based dominated.
    SO are these any good on a 'normal' 355 clevo or Windsor or a 347? On 100 avgas or E85?

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie 3 роки тому

      Yes, Higgins offers several port sizes, a smaller package would suit 355 cubes. It depends though the combustion chamber angle isn't like the OE head. That might get you nabbed by the rules makers.
